An entertaining cosy "whodunnit.' I guessed one of the twists early on, but that didn't spoil the fun. And who doesn't like a cute little dog named Killer. Secrets in the Stacks is part of the Survivors' Book Clu Mystery series, but can be read as a stand alone.

I got this arc in exchange for an honest review.

A satisfying second addition to this series. Solid characters and an interesting whodunit.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Rarity Cole is the proud owner of a bookshop, called The Next Chapter, which sells titles with a focus on Eastern and Western medicine, food, meditation and other potential powers of healing. She also runs the Tuesday Night Survivors' Club (TNSC) a book club, now a group of ten people that meets, you guessed it, on Tuesday nights! The annual healing fair is on the horizon and there's to be a Tarot card reader. Darby Doyle is the TNSC's latest recruit and a new employee at The Next Chapter. She requests a Tarot card reading by Carson but draws the Death card and rushes off, very upset. She later finds her grandmother, dead...

I'm delighted to be back in Sedona, Arizona. The mystery is one that I did not manage to puzzle out. Very highly recommended, I'm eager to continue the series with Death in the Romance Aisle, due out in 2023.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel, at my own request, from Kensington Books via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

This is a series I'd definitely recommend reading in order, as the events in this book build upon the events from the first book in the series. I liked the first book in the series better as it felt more solid as a mystery, while this book had more nebulous suspects which made the final solution feel less satisfying (for me at least!). However, it was still fun to read and not overly predictable. And I always love a book with book recommendations and a bookstore setting!

The Sleuthers' are back in action again and this one hits even closer to home when Rarity's young employee finds her grandmother murdered and the investigation starts hitting very close to home. The plot is wonderfully crafted with layers of information that are slowly peeled back to create a wonderfully woven and wicked tale of murder and revenge. The characters are so warm and realistically crafted that I want to head to Sedona and look for the bookstore just to join the book club! I am absolutely in love with the characters and this series! I am just sad that I now have to wait for the next story to be written and published!

The newest member of the Survivors’ Book Club is Darcy, who has survived breast cancer as a young adult. While she is finishing up her college degree, she is living with her grandmother and working part time for Rarity Cole at Rarity’s bookstore. Returning home from work one day, Darcy finds her grandmother murdered in their home, and she turns to the book club for help in figuring out what happened. Can they do it?

I was a bit surprised that the characters weren’t reintroduced. Since it had been several months since I read the first in the series, it took me a bit to remember who everyone was. Once I did, I fell under their spell again. I really do like the cast. The story was entertaining, although the ending was weak. While it did answer the big questions, it raised a few more that aren’t addressed. There were some timeline glitches and other editing errors that should have been caught. Hopefully they were addressed between the ARC I read and the finished version. While the characters draw you in, the story should have been better.

Secrets in the Stacks (Survivors’ Book Club 2)
Lynn Cahoon

In Secrets in the Stacks, the sequel to Tuesday Night Survivors’ Club. We return to Sedona, Az, where Rarity Cole our friendly bookstore owner and founding book club member for cancer patients and survivors meet to discuss the best reads all while offering support, understanding, and love.

The community is having an outdoor tent fair, and The Next Chapter bookstore is participating! Bookclub members have even signed up to help work the “cooling station” tent.

Darby is Rarity’s new part-time worker, she is a cancer-surviving college student living with her grandmother. This sets up the base of the storyline. Where are her parents? Why did they leave so quickly selling everything? Nobody including Darby knows the answer. Bigger problems arise when Darby goes home to change work clothes only to find her beloved Gram Catherine murdered in her own home! Now the questions really began. Why would someone want to kill a leader in the charity field? Where are her son and daughter-in-law? Every number is disconnected and there is no forwarding address. So many questions but seemingly nowhere to look, until a break-in, gives light to a past no one not even Darby knew about!

Darby needn’t worry the Tuesday Night Survivors’ Club is on the case. The ladies go to battle stations like old hands, working diligently to solve the mystery and identify all of the Secrets in the Stacks!
5*****

Lynn Cahoon is also the author of the Kitchen Witch, Cat Latimer, Tourist Trap, and the Farm to Fork mysteries.

Thank you to Lynn Cahoon, the publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC.

Great follow up to book 1! Book 2 has continued to expand the history of all our characters and the mystery was intriguing, with just the right amount of suspects and twists and turns.

Rarity is a cancer survivor and owns a bookstore in Sedona, Arizona. She started a book club for cancer survivors and it sort of became a sleuthing club. She hired Darby a fellow book clubber to work part-time in the bookstore. After a festival set in town Darby goes home to her Grandmother and finds her dead. Darby becomes a prime suspect and the bookclub sets out to work to find out who killed Catherine Doyle.

This is a fun fast read. I really enjoyed the mystery and didn't know who did it until the end. I was shocked with Rarity with the clues presented it made sense. I'm excited to see what else happens for Rarity.

During a tarot reading the death card can have many meanings. However it plays out, big changes are coming.
Darby is a cancer survivor with upcoming rechecks she is worried about.
However when her grandmother ends up dead, Darby egis to believe in the cards but worries that is not the only bad news coming.

Great cast of characters of all ages. Wonderful support for people facing and surviving illness, and makes me wish I had a great book appreciation group like this near me.
The mystery kept me guessing and I want to visit this group again.

I enjoyed this book and recommend it to fans of the first book in the series. Cozy mystery featuring murder, festivals, books, bookstores, cancer survivors.

The second book in the Survivors Book Club Mystery series which features a new age bookstore and a book group who are also cancer survivors and wannabe sleuths.

Rarity Cole is the owner of the bookstore and it takes me a bit of effort to get past that name. I am also uncomfortable with the name of her boyfriend - Archer Ender. Is it just me? Anyway it does not affect the quality of the writing and the mystery which are both good. The grandmother of one of the book club's members is murdered and the group swing into action to solve the crime.

I enjoyed the mystery, the characters are interesting, the dog is cute and the setting is a book shop. All the boxes are ticked. Four stars from me.

An easily readable cozy filled with caring characters and a positive message of survival that you don't find in most cozy mysteries. Add a mystery and you have a winner.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series so I was super excited to pick up the second book. While I did enjoy it it didn't live up to my expectations and to the first book. I liked the introduction of Darby and I really enjoy that Rarity is getting more settled into the community of Sedona. As well, I like that she worries about sales and keeping her business running. It feels a bit more realistic then having a new business owner having everything be unicorns and rainbows and prosperity.

My main issue was that I really missed the book club investigating together and discussing it in meetings. They did investigate but we mostly see things through Rarity's head or them interacting as they pass each other helping Darby out. Holly and Malia were such side characters that I had a hard time keeping track of who was who and it didn't feel like they really contributed anything. I also never really felt that the situation with Darby's parents was ever explained in a way that made any sense.

While I did guess several plot points fairly early in the book I enjoyed Cahoon's writing style and spending time with the characters so much that that didn't bother me. I'm looking forward to the next book and am hoping that the book club will all play a bigger role in the investigating.

I am somewhat new to Lynn Cahoon, this being only the second book that I’ve read by her. The Tuesday Survivor’s Book Club cozy mystery series is set in Sedona Arizona. The cast of characters as well as the small town atmosphere are likable. That the story revolves around friends in a bookstore bookclub is fun. Amateur sleuthing at its best kept me turning the pages.

I received an advanced digital copy from the publisher and Net Galley. All opinions are my own.

I love the characters and the setting. The mystery kept me guessing. I look forward to more in the series as I love the idea of a book club built around being a survivor.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed the first book in this series, the second one seems to have taken a turn towards a more common theme, solving a mystery. While this is well written and enjoyable it had a darker tone. A story with history and how to unravel that takes up a lot of the book. The characters are likeable and the plot is good, it just seemed a bit more predictable than I usually find in this author's writing.

3.5 stars - Secrets in the Stacks is the second book in Survivors’ Book Club mystery series. This series is unique in that the main character, Rarity Cole, started the book club to help cancer survivors come together. The club has grown since the first book and one of the new members, Darby Doyle, is also working part-time for Rarity at her new book store in Sedona, Arizona. When Darby’s grandmother is murdered, she asks the book club, who have done some sleuthing in the past, to help find the killer.

I liked the book, but didn’t enjoy it as much as the first book in the series. One of the things I liked the most in the first book was the friendships between the main characters and the way they support each other. However, Darby, Holly, and sometimes Shirley were snippy with their friends in this book which undermined the idea of their close friendships. The book also starts out a little scattered without a central focus. Also since I’m familiar with Sedona, some things such as Rarity swimming in her unheated swimming pool in November, kept taking me out of the story. Sedona is quite cool during that time of year, so all I could think about was how cold that water would be.

On the plus side, I liked the way Verity and her friends worked together to solve the murder of Darby’s grandmother and also support Darby as she dealt with her health and the grief. I also like the way the author is showing progress in Verity’s relationship with Archer Ender without rushing things. The investigation revealed some surprises and I’m interested to see what is in store for Verity in the future.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for this ebook. An advance copy was provided to me at no cost, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.

Blurb:
Following her recovery from breast cancer, Rarity has embraced a life of healing and service in her Sedona, Arizona, community. She welcomes the opportunity to participate in the annual summer healing fair with her fittingly named new-age bookstore, The Next Chapter. The members of the Tuesday Night Survivors’ Book Club are also volunteering, maintaining a cooling station for overheated festivalgoers, and hosting a Tarot card reader for entertainment.

But one member, Darby, is anything but entertained when the Tarot reader pulls a Death card. With a mammogram coming up, she’s freaked out and goes home—only to walk into a crime scene where someone near and dear to her has been murdered. Despite the objections of Detective Drew Anderson, Rarity is determined to help her friend and protect her from being the killer’s next victim . . .

SECRETS IN THE STACKS is the second book in the Survivors Book Club Mysteries by Lynn Cahoon. Such a wonderful read! The characters are just as fun in this book as they were in the first. Whether in agreement, or not, these ladies band together to support each other come what may. The writing is as good as it gets, and I am always sad to see the end of the book come so quickly! I will be looking forward to book three!
