Secrets in the Stacks is the 2nd book in Lynn Cahoon's Survivor's Book Club Mystery series and is a good cozy mystery with great characters and an interesting mystery. Rarity Cole owns a bookstore in Sedona, AZ. She beat breast cancer and hosts a book club for other survivors. They do as much sleuthing as reading and they are an interesting group. Rarity and her part-time helper, Darby, are working at the summer festival and Darby is spooked by a tarot reading. Darby then finds someone close to her dead. The book club helps Darby and they all search for clues and uncover secrets The characters make this such an enjoyable cozy mystery. The ending is short and a little rushed and the book doesn't have the smoothness of the other books by this author (and I have read all of her books). It is still a very enjoyable book and the topic of cancer is handled with humor and honesty. The interaction and support between Rarity, Archer, Sam, Drew, and the book club really makes this a great read. I am looking forward to the next book in this series. #SecretsInTheStacks #NetGalley
I loved the first book so was extra pleased to be able to get this via Netgalley and find out what trouble the Survivors Book Club manage to land themselves in this time. The mystery centres around the murder of Darby’s beloved grandmother - with the book club immediately gathering around her for support. It’s not long before it becomes clear that the pieces don’t add up - but will the girls be able puzzle it out before there is another victim? This had me guessing to the very end - I was so sure I’d solved it at one point too! Sign me up for book 3! As before, the strength of the female friendships in this book really shine, this is a group of women who show up for each other without overstepping. The progression of Rarity’s relationship with Archer is lovely.
The Next Chapter is Rarity Cole's dream. A bookstore where she makes the decisions, can bring her very small well-behaved fluffy dog (Killer), and in a friendly, small town where neighbors care about each other.
When Darcy (Rarity's part-time employee) suffers a devastating loss, there's no question or hesitation. The cancer survivor's book club at Rarity's bookstore (that has become a tightly-knit family of women; more like a chosen family) gathers around to lift and protect her.
The book club has an alter ego. When circumstances require it, most group members become crime detectives; sleuths who help the very small local police force to solve murders. Fortunately, The police detective, Drew Anderson, welcomes the help, especially when free food is involved!
Darcy's parents are missing, a couple of shady men from out-of-town are suspects, and Darcy's house almost has a revolving door, it has been "visited" so many times. How long can everyone work on little sleep, take turns moving back and forth, and stay safe?
This was an enjoyable book; it felt muddled occasionally (a little off track), but over all, I liked it. I didn't connect much with Rarity, but this is the first book I've read in the series (not book 1), so I probably missed a lot.
3.8/5 Stars

Great Survivor/ Book Store Cozy
Ms. Cahoon pens an intriguing cozy in a small town with memorable characters.
Rarity runs a small book store with a book club of cancer survivors. When that employee, Darby has a personal tragedy and is a suspect Rarity makes it hers and her book club's mission to find out what happened, with the aid of friends. They ended up finding out more than they expected and were put in danger . They had to delve into 20 year journals to find the important clues. It is well written and hard to put down. I loved it and recommend highly for ant cozy lover.
I requested and received a NetGalley ARC.
Lynn Cahoon's Secrets in the Stacks is the second book in the Survivor's Book Club Mystery series and qualifies as a stand-alone. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and instantly loved the serene surroundings of Sedona, Arizona. Rarity Cole is an inspirational character infused with strength, kindness and logic. The Survivor's Book Club members are memorable, distinguished and diverse. This book focuses on friendships with a dash of romance which is the perfect formula for a cozy mystery. My suspect list was long, and the surprising ending caught me off guard. Given the confines of the murder and the possible suspects, it gave me an escape room feel. I will strongly suggest reading book one to get a better understanding of these well-written characters. A 4-star read!
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for giving me an ARC. This honest review is left voluntarily.

Secrets in the Stacks is the 2nd book in the Survivor's Book Club Mystery series by Lynn Cahoon. This can be read as a standalone mystery or enjoyed as part of the series!
I loved reading this book and I can't wait for future books in the series! I loved meeting the members of the Tuesday Night Survivors' Book Club! I found the characters to be likable, relatable, and so interesting! I loved how the author incorporated her experience as a cancer survivor into developing these characters. People who have gone through a significant health event due look at life a little differently and I loved reading about people who think like I do.
The story was fast paced and fascinating! I couldn't wait to see who the killer was. This story was so much fun and I loved reading it! I could not put this book down!
I can't wait to see what's to come! I highly recommend reading this book!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I have enjoyed every series I have read written by Lynn Cahoon and this one is no exception. This group that was started for survivors has become a group of friends and one of their friends needs help. They will whatever they can to solve the murder.
Goodreads
This is the second in Lynn Cahoon's Survivors' Book Club series, focusing on Rarity Cole who, after defeating breast cancer, recognized a life well lived was not her high salaried marketing job in the City or a man who turned and ran at the first sign of trouble. So, Rarity quit her job and moved to Sedona, Arizona, where she opened her bookstore, created a book club for others who were dealing with or had survived cancer, and the rest, as they say is history. It also is an amazing cozy mystery read, with richly developed characters and storylines, including a warm supportive circle of women and men who have quickly become more than friends and plenty of humor.
What it is not - morbid and full of dark humor. I admit that I was quite leery of a series based on cancer survivors, but my fear/hesitation was baseless. Cancer is a strand in these characters' lives. It connects many of them, but it is not the entire tapestry.
This second outing holds true to form, and the mystery is quite intriguing. Although I had a good idea of who the killer was, it wasn't until very late in the book.
My one complaint, other than I hate to leave Rarity and her friends, is that the ending felt rushed, rendering it somewhat anticlimactic. I still enjoyed this book and look forward to my next trip to Sedona to visit with Rarity and her friends.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion. Secrets in the Stacks is the second mystery in the Survivors’ Book Club cozy mystery series by Lynn Cahoon. The main character runs a book store in Sedona, Arizona, and starts a book club for cancer survivors, but as in all things cozy, the club quickly realizes they are better at amateur sleuthing!
I like Lynn Cahoon's series, with fun plots, fleshed-out characters, and tons of cozy mystery tropes, and this is an enjoyable entry into this new series. I like the characters, but the setting especially keeps me interested as I'm from that area. If you like a cozy, you will enjoy the mishaps and shenanigans of the Survivors' Book Club!
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for allowing me to read this amazing book!
Ever wanted to solve a mystery and run a bookstore? That’s exactly what Rarity and her women lead book club do.
When one of their own’s grandmother mysteriously is found murdered in her home; it’s up to Rarity to not only comfort her friend; but to put the pieces of the puzzle together.
From libraries of books to mysterious characters around town; you will be on the edge of your seat wanting to know “who done it”.
Secrets in the Stacks is the second mystery in the Suvivors’ Book Club mystery series. The book club that started as cancer survivors support group and quickly turned into a sleuthing club, finds its next case when one of their members finds someone murdered.
I enjoy most everything of Lynn Cahoon’s that I have read and this mystery is no different. I enjoy the Sedona setting and the characters in this series. There is a wide variety of characters that work together well to solve the mysteries that they are faced with. It is fun seeing how the support group book club has evolved from its start and has now transformed into more of a sleuthing club, uncovering the murders lurking around their town. I found this to be a great second addition to this new series and I look forward to seeing what else is in store for this sleuthing book club! This is one that I would definitely recommend!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book!
Secrets in the Stacks by Lynn Cahoon is a great ‘whodunit’ with fun characters. The book revolves around a bookstore, The Next Chapter, in Sedona, Arizona. This is the second book in a series called Survivors’ Book Club Mystery. I read this book without reading the prior book and I did not find any issues that interfered with the book. Although I have already bought the first book and I can not wait to read it!
Rarity Cole survived breast cancer and decided to change her life. She opened a bookstore in Sedona. She is tied in with the community, runs a book club and is helping with the annual summer healing fair. Rarity has a number of friends and a special guy. Her employee Darby had a very difficult tarot card reading only to go home and find her grandmother had been killed.
It seems that the Book Club helped solve and earlier murder (prior book) and decided to help with this one, not that the local law enforcement are thrilled with their help. Each of the members help out with various information and companionship for Darby, but things are getting a little too interesting!
Secrets in the Stacks by Lynn Cahool is a fun read. The mystery is more of a cozy mystery, than a thriller. The characters were interesting and even fun with the members of the book club, the local detective and others all included in the mystery. I really liked the small dog called Killer - he was a hoot. The mystery was well constructed and kept me guessing! Secrets in the Stacks was a fun read!!!!
Sedona bookstore owner Rairty Cole is a breast cancer survivor. She hosts a survivor’s book club that just happened to solve the murder of a member. So when the grandmother of her college student employee Darby is killed, the group is back to business.
A nice, cozy mystery as much about friendships and support as solving a crime. This is the 2nd in the series, best read in order.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Secrets in the Stacks is the second book in this series. When Rarity's new employee and newest book club member Darby's grandmother Catherine is murdered, Darby becomes a suspect and begs the Survivor's book club for help. With no viable suspects, Rarity and the book club put their heads together to investigate Catherine's past to find the real killer. The book club is unique as most of the members are cancer survivor's. It took me awhile to guess whodunnit. Thank you to netgalley and to the publisher for providing me this advance readers copy.
Synopsis:
Following her recovery from breast cancer, Rarity has embraced a life of healing and service in her Sedona, Arizona, community. She welcomes the opportunity to participate in the annual summer healing fair with her fittingly named new-age bookstore, The Next Chapter. The members of the Tuesday Night Survivors' Book Club are also volunteering, maintaining a cooling station for overheated festivalgoers, and hosting a Tarot card reader for entertainment.
But one member, Darby, is anything but entertained when the Tarot reader pulls a Death card. With a mammogram coming up, she's freaked out and goes home—only to walk into a crime scene where someone near and dear to her has been murdered. Despite the objections of Detective Drew Anderson, Rarity is determined to help her friend and protect her from being the killer's next victim .
Review:
This book was wildly campy (just look at the character names) while also telling an important story about survivors of all kinds. The mystery in this one led me on a little bit of a dirt road before I felt like I definitely understood what was going on which is a nice change of pace from some of my other favorite genres.
I really like Rarity both as a character and as our eyes on this story. This is a perfect cozy mystery for those cold nights coming soon!
A second adventure in the Survivors’ Book Club series finds Rarity Cole and her fellow members tracking down the killer of a member’s grandmother – a local philanthropist and volunteer. The team’s sleuthing leads to exploring the deceased’s past since current activities provide no clues – motives or suspects.
Lynn Cahoon devises an intriguing mystery and develops engaging characters with comfortable friendships. Visiting this book club in Sedona is an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.
Amazingly awesome! Reading Lynn Cahoon's second Survivors' Book Club Mystery, Secrets in the Stacks, is like a reunion with a special set of friends. The mystery is challenging and interesting, but it is the interaction of this group that make the book outstanding.
The people are not perfect, and the interactions aren't always easy, but the friendships are worth the effort to make them work. To me, that is as real life as you can get. Ms. Cahoon's descriptions of the area makes me want to spend time in Sedona. She evokes memories of the amazing country while creating live and mystery not to be missed.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington/Lyrical Press for accepting my request to read and review and ARC of Secrets in the Stacks. The first book in the Survivors' Book Club Mystery series was excellent, and I knew that the next one would draw me even more as I became more attached to the characters. I was surprised to discover as soon as I started reading Secrets in the Stacks how attached I already was to this group. Lynn Cahoon brings so many talents to her writing but her ability to make people so real that they feel like friends is the one that I love the most.

After a fast paced life in the financial world, a year of fighting cancer and a break-up with her boyfriend, Rarity Cole decides to start over. Her new life is living near her best friend in Sedona, AZ and opening a book shop. She started the Tuesday Night Survivors' Book Club with mostly cancer survivors. In the past year they've begun to depend on one another for more than book recommendations.
Rarity and her book club (aka sleuthing club) have a second case to solve. Darby's grandmother is murdered and her parents can't be found. Why would anyone want to kill a grandmother, philanthropist, and volunteer for every project where she can help? The Sleuthing Club doesn't believe anything in her current life would lead to her murder, so it must be in the life she led before moving to Sedona. They need to figure it out before there's a second murder.
This is a great series of books. I'm looking forward to the next installment.
The Book is about friendship and being there for each other as much as solving the mystery.
Thanks #NetGallery and #Goodreads for letting me discover Rarity and her book club friends. We should all be so lucky to have supported and loving friendships.
I loved this second in series that continues our favorite characters from the first book. This is a fun series with a excellent well crafted group of charcters and a great sleuth. Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinion is my own, This is a unique cozy set around a book club of breast cancer survivors that solve crimes with our protagnist Rariety.
In this next in series Rariety is enjoying her new life in Sedona with new friends and her weekly book club meeting of ladies that survived breast cancer and some undergoing treatment. Having solved a murder together in the first book they are a bonded group of friends . One of the ladies is awaiting news of a recent mamogram and is devasted when she returns home to find her Grandmother has been murdered.. .Rariety believes with the book club they can investigate clues and help to solve this crime. Soon red herrings and clues abound and Rariety finds herself in terrible danger . The conclusion was a surprise to me which is always fun . The charcters are richly drawn with a background of Sedona and Rariety is a likable savvy protagnist. Rariety has a nice love interest in Archer which is building in this book. Her dog is adorable and a fun addtion to the series . I look forward to the next in series and returning to this wonderful series. Well Done to the author.
