I’m a new Meg Cabot fan.
I really enjoyed reading this sweet funny book. There were many times I laughed out loud.
Covid had hit Genovia and The Princess has her hands full with her twins, a palace full of family and having to make unpopular decisions. Luckily with the support of her wonderful husband they manage all that comes their way.
Complete and total fun! This is Mia's coronavirus/pandemic diary, which is filled with humor, romance, and enough storylines to keep interest high. I look forward to recommending this title to readers who enjoy lighthearted, contemporary romance, especially if it involves royalty!
It was cute and fun but I only said I wouldn’t buy for the shop because I would have to buy all of them for people to get it .
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy,
I was such a huge fan of Princess Diaries books when I was younger and still huge fan of the movies today. This book was a great continuation of the series and a pleasant read. For all fans of the series, definitely recommend!!
As a princess diaries fan, this was purely nostalgic. It was cute easy read. thank you netgalley & the publisher for the ARC, in exchange for an honest review.
4.5/5 Stars
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced readers copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I LOVED this book! It was so easy to relate to Mia and the difficulties she had to face during the pandemic. You get to see her inner thoughts and why she makes certain decisions during Covid-19. I just love how its's just so relatable to the everyone during the pandemic. I found myself going "yup that's me " so often it kept me wanting more. The reason I'm giving it 4.5 and not 5 stars because I didn't like how it went from this horrible pandemic to nah don't worry we have a nasal vaccine so happily ever after. But overall, i enjoyed the book a lot and definitely recommend!
I think I read the original Princess Diaries about 200 times as a kid. It legitimately taught me so much about pop culture and New York City and I definitely associate it with certain movie trivia or NYC landmarks to this day. I never kept up super well with any of the sequels, but I did read the “flash forward 10 years” book as a quarantine comfort read so I was more or less caught up.
There are certain things in the MTEU (Mia Thermopolis Extended Universe) that haven’t aged super well and that make it feel a little weird when imagining Mia in the real world during Covid-19. Monarchies in general (although at least she’s Team Sussexes obviously), being friends with/taking seriously the advice of Gwyneth Paltrow, and being irrationally jealous of your husband’s high school ex-girlfriend, for example. Oh also saying “I’m body positive of course!” doesn’t actually do much when you’re obsessing about your quarantine weight gain every chapter…
That said, this was a fun read. I still love Mia and the gang, and especially the Moscovitzes, whose penthouse childhood apartment and psychologist parents I covet to this day. Even if one of them lives in a palace now. The elevator opened right into their foyer!
If Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi is in a book, I'm reading it. Period. (Also, if Meg Cabot is writing a book, I'm reading it. Period.) I loved getting to catch up with characters that feel like friends and seeing what they get into.
Reading about the pandemic through Mia's perspective is just incredible and brings a bit of levity to COVID, but also reality to how we were all feeling. I loved this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to review this book!
This book is a great romp with nostalgia for those of us who grew up reading The Princess Diaries. Following Princess Mia as she rules over Genovia during the early stages of the pandemic, the book rings authentically true to the original books despite its current timeframe. I found all the characters had the same voices they had earlier in the series and in particular it was wonderful to see Mia ruling as she was brought up to do, but also have her characteristic tone in her diaries. Some mentions of excessive drinking and alludes to sex, but let’s face it, this book is for Millennials, not the kids. If you adored The Princess Diaries this is for you; if not skip it.
I Love the Princess Diaries series so I was so excited when I heard about this one.
Mia dealing with trying to keep her country safe.
Micheal working on a vaccine.
Grandmere refusing to take things seriously.
It was exactly what I expected each of the characters to do!
There was a lot of commentary on masks/vs no masks. People protesting rulings and how people are dealing with just being shut and. It was a fun quick read that I had to force myself to go to bed because I wanted to keep reading.
This was a cute book and I really enjoyed it. It’s light, fluffy and pure escapism but sometimes that’s what you need. Mia’s views of the pandemic and quarantine were humorous but also spot on (we can all relate to bad hair, comfy clothes and lockdown weight gain!)
Fun, easy, lighthearted read!
This book is tough to give feedback on because it portrays Covid lockdown in a realistic way. I haven't finished the book but I probably will. I'm reading it very slowly.
I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Admittedly, this is my first time reading a Princess Diaries book. I have, however, watched both the movies staring Anne Hathaway. Having said that, I found this book entertaining. Not the greatest royal book I've ever read but a decent one at that and it is good enough to make me think about reading the entire series. I still haven't made my mind up about that yet.
But the covid aspect of the story was really interesting though and I wish we had our own Michael to make a covid vaccine.
I recommend this book for ages 18+ for closed door sex.
Full disclosure: I have not read the other Princess Diaries books so I am not familiar with all of the characters/cameos. I thought this was a fun, quick read. It is super relatable and brings you right back to 2020 when people were trapped inside and going a little nuts, or people were protesting in ridiculous fashions.
I did think this felt a little disjointed and could've been better as short stories. But when I looked into more information I found that this did, indeed, start as smaller journal entries. I also really appreciate how Meg Cabot is using this to raise money for such a worthy cause.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Very cute and relatable edition to the Princess Diaries universe. I enjoyed this romp through Genovia and getting caught up with all of my old and now new favorite characters. Excellent read and a lot of fun for fans of this series.
The pandemic through Princess Mia’s eyes! I love the Princess Diaries series. This was a quick and fun read.
I grew up on the Princess Diaries and loved Cabot's first foray into an adult Mia, "Royal Wedding," so seeing a new book pop up was an immediate yes. However, this was not the book for me. While it was fun and frothy and had cameos from all the characters from the original series, Mia and her life felt out of touch with the reality they were depicting of the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. And maybe it's one of those things where it just feels too soon for me, but her yachts and palace staff are so different from what millions of experienced that it felt almost icky. The tone was also a bit morally superior, as Mia does all of the "right" things right off the bat, where in reality we were all floundering to figure out what right even means. So, overall it was and OK read, but I was put off by it as a reader.
This book was everything I wanted it to be. It had me turned pages without even realizing. It was so good!
I loved going back into the world of Princess Mia! Having only read the Princess Diaries series and not the series focusing on Mia's half-sister, I was quite lost at the start of this book and had to wikipedia some of the storylines that I missed. Once I established myself back in the world of Genovia, I once again loved reading Mia's diary as she deals with the first year of the COVID pandemic. The diary spans the time period from the start of the pandemic to the start of 2021 and the roll out of the vaccines, ending at the optimistic time. It was interesting to see how our favorite characters handled the pandemic (especially Grandmere!). Would definitely recommend to any millennial woman who grew up with Mia, and will now see themselves in the struggles of living during a pandemic (even if they weren't ruling a small country).
First off, I’d like to say that reading this book felt like visiting an old and dear friend. Secondly, I’d like to say how disappointed I am that I can’t physically board a plane and fly to Genovia because Meg Cabot has painted the picture of a dream destination for me.
If you’re reading this, you lived through the pandemic yourself and had your own experiences. This book takes you through Princess Mia’s experiences. Ruling a country, raising children, and dealing with her grandmother during the course of the pandemic. It was entertaining and touching and made me wish I were a visitor in Mia’s palace (though only once it was safe to do so).
The plot deals a lot with the struggles of trying to do what is right for people who don’t agree with your definition of “right”. It is one thing to deal with the pandemic as a citizen, but imagine being the ruler of the citizens and trying to help them. I felt frustrated for Mia and related to her fears and her coping mechanisms (I too would like to replace my nightstand with a wine fridge). It was also fun to read about the princess and her struggles with setting up Disney+ and her animal emergencies. Another aspect I enjoyed was the visits from old familiar characters who we spent time with in the other books.
This is a great read for fans of Princess Mia who’ve missed her, as well as Meg Cabot fans. If you’re looking for a diary-style novel about a fictional princess with a lighter tone, relatable antics, and some pretty funny and relatable family dysfunction, I think this is the perfect book for you. I genuinely laughed out loud at some parts and so I will be recommending this book to anyone who will listen.
