Hockey’s Hidden Gods: The Untold Story of a Paralympic Miracle on Ice by S.C. Megale tells the story of the 2002 US men’s Paralympic sled hockey team and how they overcame all odds to win gold. I am a huge hockey fan and love reading everything out there about the 1980 Miracle on Ice, but I hadn’t heard about the Paralympic version of the Miracle on Ice until I came across this book. I am glad that I discovered this book and got the chance to learn about 2002 sled hockey team and their gold medal.

S.C. Megale did a great job of telling the players stories and pulling the reader into the Paralympic journey of this sled hockey team. I enjoyed getting to know the players and learn about the story of Hockey’s Hidden Gods. If you are a hockey fan, an Olympic fan or just want to learn a little more about Paralympic sled hockey, this is a good book for you!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book!

So grateful I got an ARC copy of this book because oh my, this was such a beautiful story written in such an incredible way. S.C. Megale does an amazing job at telling the story of a Paralympic sled hockey team that essential shocked the world in their ability to take their team right to that gold medal status. This is a story about the underdogs truly being considered the underdogs and having to work their way into gaining that number one spot during the Paralympic Games in 2002.

It was an emotional rollercoaster for me as I read this, there were so many moments that I felt the pain and hurt in the writing and the story being told. To understand the pain and then the growth at being able to come up on top through these interviews and players sharing such intimate details of what happened was honestly life changing for me.

I'll be thinking about this book for months to come. An absolutely amazing story about the journey of the US Paralympic sled hockey team in 2002.
