Unfortunately I DNF’d this book. The writing style, pacing, and topic couldn’t keep me engrossed in the story. I think I was expecting a fantasy novel and instead got a modern dystopian paranormal novel. The cadence of the book felt a bit repetitive and rushed; not a lot of flair in the sentence structure so it was hard to keep my interest. I wouldn’t say it was a bad book, but just not for me at this time.

Note: I received an Advanced Reader Copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A longtime fan of omegaverse fiction, I was very excited to see one marketed as New Adult. However, this book hardly touches on the interesting dymamics that make the omegaverse so interesting, instead just reusing the ancient plotline of “main character is a weak but underestimated omega.” Additionally, I was excited for some romance as the book mentions the true mate trope and the given book description has her making out with her best friend, but
I’d hardly call a 1 sentence kiss “making out.” I give this a 2.5/5 rating because while the original reason I picked this up fell flat, I am curious about the other plotlines in this book. I believe the author has plenty of room to turn things around in the second book.

I was pulled into this story and couldn’t put it down! There is so much kindness from Grace as well as so much misunderstanding from the ones she loves.

Amara Mae did a great job writing about the dystopian Seattle and world. And bringing all the fairytale monsters to life. I can’t wait for the next story in Grace’s and Arioch’s story. So many more secrets to uncover.
