Going through a “men are horrible” phase and this hit all the right notes. If you’re in a different headspace, this is a little bitter and trite, but right place, right time.
This was so fun! Humour makes facing difficult truths a little more bearable… Can’t wait to tell my friends about this one!
First, we'd like to thank NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the opportunity to read a copy of this book in advance. This book is an absolutely hilarious yet completely real collection of jokes that hit a little close to home for those that have ever been victimized by the patriarchy in one way or another. Some of the jokes didn't always come through as jokes, but all the issues raised in the book were completely real, making this attempt at satirizing them a genius one. We need more books like this out there.
If you're a feminist then you'll enjoy this book. It takes some common jokes but reworks them to be told from a woman's perspective.
While some of the jokes in this book are funny, many are not. The jokes generally fell into one of two categories for me: 1) jokes based on the differing social power dynamics based on gender (these are the ones I enjoyed) or 2) Jokes that rely on problematic modern gendered stereotypes (these are the ones I did not enjoy). Overall the book is mildly amusing and quick to read through.
This is a hilarious, intelligent contemporary read perfect for all women struggling to maintain healthy relationships with men. Honestly, it reminded me of the BookTok hit, "How To Date Men When You Hate Men." Reading this book felt like watching a Taylor Tomlinson or Lliza Shlesinger standup special - you even read it in a funny voice! If you're a woman who needs a good laugh, I cannot recommend this book enough.
There’s some good jokes in here that are offensive to men and women (lol). I like offensive jokes so if that’s your type of humor this is perfect for you! Just don’t take it to heart!
okay, so before I could finish reading even half of this book it got expired and I really wanted to read more of it. Sigh. However, as far as I read, I felt like most of the jokes are kinda specific to a particular culture and milieu. Though yes, I did laugh and scoff at a few of them. But I don't think readers coming from all backgrounds will be able to relate a hundred percent to the jokes. Maybe there were more generalized jokes ahead but guess I'd never know.
But yes, I'd like bookstores from all over the world to stock up on this title because it's very pink, very in-your-face and i love it <3
I consider myself a feminist & have been at the receiving end of plenty of men's sexist nonsense my whole life. I could give examples, but seriously, as if I need to. If you are a woman, I imagine you have many examples of your own. Sadly, I don't expect the sexist nonsense to end in my lifetime. With that said, I thought this book would be funny. It's not. Mostly it's just statements. There is a lot of anger. I don't need or want anger, I wanted to laugh. More surprisingly was how I related to only maybe 1% of the "jokes". This book is also far left leaning & woke. My humor seeking feminist self has been left utterly disappointed. What a dud.
Thank you to the publisher & NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy,
"Jokes to Offend Men" aren't actually jokes, more like sad and harsh truths written in joke format for what it's like to be a woman in a man's world. I didn't find any of them particularly funny or even chuckled, but found most of them smart and moved my head often in agreement.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!
It's been a long time since I've read a joke book cover to cover (but i was quite the fan of the format as a child) - but i'm happy to be back! Jokes to Offend Men hit a lot harder than my childhood joke books but this had me laughing, agreeing with the sentiment and occasionally feeling a bit sad that these would indeed offend men.
A very funny book that also makes poignant commentary on the workplace, expectations on women & how women are supposed to present themselves. If the audience wasn't laughing, they would be crying with how accurate these jokes are and how universally shared the experiences are. A great gift, a quick read, and a fun time all around.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC ebook in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own!
Thankfully, none of the men in my life were offended by these jokes, but I certainly think it is a good litmus test! These "jokes" are critiques of misogyny in society, often snarky, and usually quite insightful.
The book is broken down into sections including dealing with doctors, mansplainers, in the workplace, and during holidays.
Some of the jokes were very funny and were something you could share with friends to get a laugh, but others were merely call outs to misogyny and simply "jokes" because we aren't in a place culturally to critique these behaviors in a serious way. Joking about them is a baby step at least and hopefully some men somewhere will feel called out by this book and examine their behaviors...maybe
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read in exchange for an honest review.
It's funny. But not funny ha-ha. Funny enraging because every single joke in here is based on the experiences of so many women.
Read from October 21st, 2022 to October 22nd, 2022. Written on October 24th, 2022.
One of my top 2022 reads, no doubt. A feminist masterpiece.
Allison Kelley, Danielle Kraese, Kate Herzlin and Ysabel Yates wrote some of the best jokes I have ever heard (or read, in this case). The illustrations are few but really good, making me actually want to see more; most jokes are small but so well written, I mean I cannot think of one joke I didn't like; and the chapter organisation is perfect where even the titles and subtitles are funny.
What I thought was quite impressive was the fact that some jokes were not necessarily jokes, they were more compliments towards women, men and, even sometimes, non-binary people. I can't let go of my mind on one joke where "the babysitter" isn't exactly who we think it is, and it shows just how amazing these women can write, truly.
I found myself laughing out loud most of the time and I loved every second of it. This is a must-read for ALL people, for its positivity and funny moments are sure to give everyone a good time.
Signing off,
B.

This book is exactly what it's called. Like those joke books we used to read as kids but for adulthood and of course towards men. I found myself laughing at some and confused at others but overall it is a joke book for feminists and those who want to laugh at men for being men.
The title is a bit tongue in cheek, but the jokes themselves pull no punches. This collection is sometimes funny jokes, but often read more to me like social commentary on the form of anti-joke format (where it's set up like a joke, but is actually just a fact or point instead of a traditional punchline). So yes, I had some smiles and a few laughs, but overall it was less funny and more grim. The mood is very much like when you laugh at terrible things because the alternative is to give up.
The jokes are broken into categories, so you have similar themes through each section. The unfortunate thing about this is that they start to become somewhat predictable and repetitive. That made them lose their impacts as jokes, though again, in the social commentary side it builds a cohesive overall stance.
If you're looking for actual jokes to tell, you might get a few depending on your style of humor. This is a lot of dry humor, a lot of subverting expectations of traditional joke setups, and similar styles to that. It mostly relies on familiar experiences of women, so I'm honestly not sure men will "get" all of these jokes, or at least not in the painfully relatable way some of them read for me.
Thank you to NetGalley for a free advanced copy. This is my honest review.
This is a really cute joke book. I picture this as being a nice little conversation starter on your coffee table that you and your friends laugh at together at brunch or book club. I enjoyed flipping through this virtual copy. The jokes are cheesy, as they usually are in joke books, but very smart.
Thank you to the authors, publishers, and Netgalley for the ARC copy in exchange for my honest review.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.
I really did enjoy this one. It made me laugh a lot.
Jokes to Offend Men takes the form of the classic joke book and makes it hurt. I was laughing, but I was also in pain because the jokes are accurate of the realities that women face in regards to sexism and toxic masculinity. I'm a big believer in finding humor and levity in difficult times and situations. This joke book does that well. I could laugh and relate very easily to these jokes, and I could see this book being a great conversation starter to take some of the pressure of a topic that many can easily become defensive over. I'd like to purchase a hard copy for my coffee table.
