My main issue with this book is that the 'jokes' aren't actually jokes. They're sad realities presented in joke format. I mean, it didn't even elicit a chuckle in 170+ pages.
I get what they're going for and I love that someone is doing the work of getting the sad facts out there, just don't tell me I'm getting jokes when it's just brilliantly passive-aggressive and sarcastic comments on the state of today's world.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the early read in exchange for an honest review.

I think this book is a great idea and I love the cover, I just don’t think joke books are as appealing to me as I thought they would be. Fabulous idea though!

If you go into this expecting funny hahas, you will be disappointed. While it is formatted like a joke book, the jokes are not funny. It’s mostly sad observations of the differences between how men and women are treated in different circumstances. Much of it is relatable, but I wish it wasn’t. And I guess that’s the point.

Some of the jokes tickled my dark funny bone. Why did the dad cross the road? Because the neighbor called him a chicken and he just couldn’t let it go. While my dad doesn’t care about someone calling him a chicken, he doesn’t let things go. Particularly when it comes to the neighbors. What did the “lady killer” grow up to be? Ted Bundy. What did Ted Bundy grow up to be? Played by Zac Efron. Isn’t that something.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me. Decent read. Not particularly funny, but I think that’s intentional. Nothing groundbreaking, but sometimes it’s nice to know that you’re not alone in your experiences.

Big thanks to the authors, Andrews McMeel Publishing, and NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review. You can pre-order Jokes to Offend Men on Amazon and begin reading it on October 25, 2022.

This book was... Fine. The humor was honestly quite hit or miss and was never particularly "laugh out loud" funny, but it did get a few chuckles out of me and I enjoyed some of the commentary. That being said, I feel like much more could have been done with the subject material at hand. I also feel that it was a mistake for those involved not to distinguish that most of these jokes apply to cis, heterosexual, white men with heteronormative values. Overall, this was a pretty lack luster read and I can't imagine picking it up again or recommending it to a friend, which is quite unfortunate.

Regardless, I appreciate that NetGalley provided me with a free copy in exchange for an honest, fair review.

Thank you for sending me an ARC of this book.

I swear to god, this is one of the funniest books I've read in 2022. The jokes are hilarious and kinda sad when you think about it. But if you want a funny, quick read, I definitely recommend it.

Jokes to Offend Men is a funny, unapologetically honest read. Written by four female comedian writers, this take on a classic joke book was written in response to countless sexist actions and comments they have experienced- some of which were made in an attempt to be funny. Unfortunately, their experiences are universal. Pick this one up so that you can have a laugh, at the expense of the patriarchy for once.

This is a quick read of jokes which are categorised by subject matter. Some are better than others but overall it will make you laugh!

These jokes had me cracking up! I made the mistake of downloading this at work and my coworker and I were laughing so hard that we had to go outside. Our office is too quiet to be laughing that hard. These jokes are hilarious and somewhat offensive, and I couldn't get enough of it.

The jokes were good fun. An easy book to read and enjoy. Would be fun to have a physical copy. Not much else to say about it.

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the eARC!

These jokes would definitely offend men. Sadly many of them hit close to home and I found myself nodding my head rather than laughing. There were definitely a few gems in here though. I like how the jokes were categorized so you can easily reference which topics are relatable

10/10, this book had me laughing out loud!

I could not put it down! So intelligent, funny, and extremely relatable! I will be recommending this book to all of my friends as well as quoting some of the jokes from the book.

I was excited to read this because I’m a woman and it’s satire. I agree with a few others on how some jokes fell flat for me, but I found others funny in that, “this is funny, but also makes me sad and a bit mad” way.

A couple made me gasp a bit because they are true…but a little too on the nose. Greg was an inspiration for what men need not be.

This book was a page turner from beginning to end. Hilarious yet shockingly accurate short read of the misproportions of what happens with women versus men in the work place. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Oh how I love a good book that pokes fun at the patriarchy!

I was able to scroll through the jokes in this book throughout a morning and found many of them to be light-hearted, funny, and ultimately, true. There were a few that I didn't feel like landed quite right, but overall, this book is hilarious and I think would make a great coffee table book to spark discussion.

There's something comforting about this novel in that I feel like it'd be fun to take turns reading through on a girls' night where wine is involved. I think my friends and I would cackle over it. I especially loved the ones involving men and lightbulbs... they're so true.

You'd be hard pressed to find a woman who couldn't relate to at least a handful of the scenarios these jokes are based upon. Kudos to the authors, this is funny and relatable.

NetGalley ARC (thanks!) - meh, a few of the jokes were lame, but most were funny in a “sad, but true” kinda way, easy to open anywhere and read a couple pages at a time

Very funny book that was really enjoyable to read. I particularly liked the jokes about the workplace. Overall, very much needed, especially now!

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to review this advance reader copy!

Jokes to Offend Men is a perfect book for feminists in need of a good laugh.

I will say some of the jokes had me literally laughing out loud. There are some that felt like a punch to the gut, not because they weren't funny, but due to the truth behind it. The book is definitely full of dark humor. It's clearly written by women who use humor as a coping mechanism, which I don't fault them for.

Some of the jokes made me roll my eyes and some of the jokes made me laugh out loud so I think that means the joke book is successful. For all the women who are getting a little too tired of glass ceilings.

This book captures the sexism, discrimination and double standards that women continue to face. Some jokes were funnier than others, but all were incredibly on point and painfully accurate. Even the contents page nailed it. I loved the wit and puns, and often found myself thinking, 'So true!!!'

An important read and more relevant than ever!

I’m all for offending men, but this book was not for me. To the people who have given this book 4 or 5 stars: did we read the same book?!

This could've been a great opportunity to support four female comedy writers, to show that the phrase 'women aren't funny' is far from true, but unfortunately in this case, these women truly aren't funny. I can appreciate a good joke (a particular section of Twitter is full of all kinds of comedic treasure) but these were simply not good jokes.
Many of them weren’t even jokes, just bitter statements ranting about the (very real) sexism women experience at the hands of men. The whole thing was very cisgender and heteronormative, with the occasional mention of a non-binary/genderqueer person and a gay couple for some ✨ token diversity ✨, but it honestly didn't feel genuine, more like it was thrown in at the last minute when someone noticed how cishet it all was.

There were a couple, maybe ten or so, jokes that I thought were somewhat funny. These could’ve been — should’ve been — tweets. There simply wasn’t enough good material to fill a whole book.

Here are a some of the good ones:

What do you call a man who walks into a bar and calls "dibs" on an attractive stranger?
A cab.

-

"Women are so emotional,"
said the man who just punched
a hole in the wall.

-

Three women went to see a mechanic for an oil change.
They were spoken to respectfully, charged a fair price,
and not pressured into getting anything they didn't
need. How is this possible?

They were on each other's shoulders, wearing a trench c oat, pretending to be a very tall man.

And a few examples of what I thought were bad ones. Make of it what you will:

What happened when the husband increased
his wife's allowance?

An allowance? What is she, his child?
What the fuck?

-

Why didn't the working mother go
to a four-year college?

Why don't you mind your own business?

-

A woman walks into a bar. And then walks right out
of it. The environment was hostile; it was awful.
