Very funny. made me laugh quite a bit while reading. Also very true, almost every joke is true. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this book.
This served as an excellent way to let my brain relax after a day of being mansplained to about the very thing I’m the expert in…..and knowing that I have to do it all over again tomorrow. Are some in poor taste? No, not really. Some are quintessential dad jokes turned on their ear, while some have a bite to them that may take a second or two to really sink in. But overall, it’s a good way to unwind a bit, have a laugh at the expense of the folks who constantly make women the butt of the joke, and remember that so many other men and women feel the same way you do right now.
Hysterical. I loved this book. It would be a great gift for any occasion, especially a Galentine's' Day present. I would read more from these authors.
The only joke book I may ever need! Personally, my favorite section was "Jokes to Offend Men Who Are Currently Explaining Quentin Tarantino to You." Although I expected to get bored of the jokes as I got further in, the jokes surprisingly never got stale, which was great!
Thank you so much to NetGalley for this ARC!
If I'm being frank, I have to say that this has been a rather average read for me. I was expecting to encounter marvelous jokes to lighten the heavy topic which this book is all about. As the title and synopsis explain, the authors intended to delve deeper into modern-life sexism and via making us, the readers, laugh and enjoy the collection of jokes, debunk all the underlying issues of said problematic. The subtopics discussed include mansplaining politics, obtaining undeserved promotions, male doctors taking a very unprofessional stance towards their female patients & men not taking "no" for an answer. From that sole description this sounds like an either four or five-star read, however, I must confess that a huge majority of these supposedly funny excerpts in no way made me laugh, as they just seemed like a description of certain situations and simply saddened me instead of improving my mood. I don't want to dissuade anyone from reading this book, but if it's on your TBR because of the laughs and gigs you're eagerly expecting, it's there for the wrong reasons or you've been misled by the description like me. I can't deny that it included some absolutely hilarious parts which were just a delight to read (which I obviously highlighted, underlined and wrote down for future reference), however, compared to the other 95% of this book, which I had to push myself through, I have to say that I will not be recommending this book in the near future.
In conclusion, if you're interested in reading a realistic and occasionally funny depiction of the misogyny women experience everyday and want to be more educated on the subject, feel free to pick this up because it will meet your expectations. But (and that's a very big but) if you're interested in this because of awaited comedic relief....don't bother, you can spend your time more productively and enjoyably elsewhere.
As a reminder I'd like to state that this is simply a personal opinion and whether you enjoyed it or not, you're entitled to agree or disagree with me.
I like a good book of jokes! Jokes to Offend Men has some really good ones, and would make a great gift for the sarcastic and witty feminist accomplices in my life.
Jokes to Offend Men was unfortunately not what I was expecting and I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I was expecting this one to be hilariously funny but it wasn't. Some of the jokes had me laughing, but many just made me feel sad for the world we live in.
This book really highlighted the unfairness women face and how men really need to get their act together. I found this to be more thought provoking as I read the 'jokes' and cringed at how awkwardly true they are, which I think may have been the point.
If you are looking for a funny 'ha ha' book then this probably isn't for you. If you want a book that covers the struggles and issues that many women face with a touch of humour thrown in, give this one a go.
Call it a joke book and then do nothing funny and just complain the whole time. I understand I'm not the target audience but I still thought it would be fun to laugh at myself. Nope.
This is a quick read, funny but poignant. The jokes offer a range for people who prefer a variety of types of humor-- some are puns, some are non-jokes that are simple observations of ridiculous situations.
Most of the jokes are from a female perspective, but a few specifically include NB people.
Not a book most people would sit down and read, but fine as a coffee table, end table, guest room, etc. stock. It would make a nice gift, especially for younger or politically-active women. Some of the jokes could be used as conversation starters at a thematically-linked club or group.
eARC from NetGalley.
This was was equal parts hilarious and disappointing. Lets talk about that first. It was honestly fun to read jokes in the format that are used to denigrate women for so long turned around with a new target. I would sy the hits of these jokes are mostly a bulls eye.
Okay now for the disappointing part. It was so easy to hear these jokes from people in my life who would get so offended. You can't fully remove the reality of the world from these jokes.
This book is great for explaining feminism in a fun way, showing how male attitudes and patriarchal society are wrong.
Y'know that saying from TikTok..."Not funny haha, funny weird"? Well, this book falls right in line with that energy. While this is a bonafide book of jokes, it's also a commentary on many of the social issues prevalent in our patriarchal society. Most of the jokes didn't make me laugh, but they did make me reflect on all of the ways that we could change and grow as a collective. The few that did make me laugh (well it was more of a cackle), were more like "epic burns" than hysterical jokes. Either way, I enjoyed this book. I'd love to see further iterations of this in the future, representing other marginalized groups. Even an expansion on some of the jokes discussing toxic masculinity would be great!
First, whatever Greg did…well I’m sure he won’t realize the jokes are about him but I hope every woman in his life looks at him and laughs at him.
Second, I did laugh at some of the jokes, commiserated about some, and others felt like a punch to the ovaries. As a female I related to almost each of these “jokes” and that’s from a privileged stand point of a cisgender white female. I can only imagine how much worse it is for bipoc and trans women. I wish books like this weren’t so relatable. I really hope that it offers some perspective to any men that might read it. And that it makes the ladies going through this garbage realize we are one of many and together can make change. We are mighty.
This book is incredibly funny. I have screenshots of every single page and I was rolling over laughing while going through it.
What an amazing and empowering book! Jokes to Offend Men is a modern, feminist take on the classic joke book. The authors have taken classic joke setups and turned them into sharp commentary about the everyday and structural sexism that pervades all facets of life.
If you're looking for a book that will help you laugh in the face of oppression, then Jokes to Offend Men is the perfect read for you! This hilarious collection of jokes was written by four comedy writers who are tired of being the punchline.
So why should you buy this book? Because it's funny, empowering, and it will make those annoying sexist dudes think twice before they open their mouths again. Buy it for yourself, buy it for your friends, or buy it as a gift for that special someone in your life who's always ready with a zinger. Jokes to Offend Men is the perfect way to fight back against the patriarchy - and have a whole lot of fun doing it.

If you’re expecting this book to be funny, think again, or at least don't expect it to be “aha” funny. It’s mostly a list of how unfair the world is and how men need to get their act together and correct and stop being idiots.
Still, I can vouch for how thorough this book is in listing all those awkward interactions we have with your average male, I mean, I've been taking cardigans to the office during summer months since my first ever work experience because the alternative would be to slowly freeze to death, or in my case, to fall asleep on the keyboard.
I particularly enjoyed the dig on Nancy Meyer’s “The Holiday”:
"I haven't cried in twenty years," says the female lead, who's unlike other girls.
"You might be the most incredible woman I've ever met," says the male lead. "Tell me more."
"My favorite fruit is bacon!"
"Wow, are you my dream girl?" the man asks,
beginning to sweat a little. "Anything else?!"
"I think foreplay is overrated! I prefer to minimize any chance of my having an orgasm by skipping straight to the good stuff: bone-dry penetration!"
"MARRY ME," the man screams, sweat gushing from every one of his pores.
"Well, we've only known each other for two days and have yet to navigate any real-world situations that would indicate whether we are compatible for a long term, committed relationship. But YES, YES, OF COURSE I WILL! WHEEEEEE!"
Great cover design, perfect as a stocking stuffer, secret Santa, and obvious dig at any male you might have a beef with!
My husband was rolling his eyes after joke number 2 that I read outlaid to him so I think that means this book is definitely a success and such a comic relief. He may be annoyed, but it brought me joy and laughter which was the whole point of the book!
Some of these were incredibly witty and hilarious and made me feel seen. Some of them were a little cringe or not funny but not every joke is going to be for everyone.
This is such a funny and clever book! I simply devoured it. It's a book I recommend to all my feminist friends. I just have to say that I could relate to so many of its jokes and it made me incredibly sad that this is the world we live it. Hopefully we'll continuously be able to change things for the better. Rating: 4/5 stars.
I was provided an eARC by NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.
This book is for everyone who gets told to smile a little. The jokes made me laugh out loud but also angry at the fact that they were reality. This book took less than an hour to read and really made me reflect on why the patriarchy should end. It was both fun and reflective.
Some of these jokes had me laughing so hard. Some had me saying, “oh sh!t”. And unfortunately, some didn’t make me laugh at all. That’s the thing with joke books, though. You’ll get some that crack you up and others that are just not it for you. The section about men at work was mostly hilarious, and unfortunately, very true. The section about lazy men at home didn’t really make me laugh much though.
This joke book is very thought provoking. For a lot of them the point wasn’t to make you laugh, it was to make you think, “how does this sh!t still happen today?!?”
The book goes over topics such as politicians controlling women’s bodies, unrealistic expectations of girls and women, doctors not taking women seriously and a lot more. Honestly, this book is more about expressing the issues and struggles too many women go through than it is to offend anyone. And if you are offended, then you’re part of the problem.
I give this book 3.5 stars. Most of the jokes were pretty good. Some make me laugh so hard but some really fell flat. That's why I didn't give it a 4 star rating. The reason it got the .5 is because it covers topics that are so important and that deserves more than 3 stars.
