I'll admit I was iffy on checking this one out initially, but I'm SO glad I did. Jokes to Offend Men will, probably, offend men....but let's face it, the men who will be upset by these jokes are the ones that relate to it (ie: THE PROBLEM). I'm not offended by much, if anything because I like to live and let live and others' opinions don't have any bearing on my life- they sure aren't paying my bills! I found these jokes sooo spot on- sadly because it's at the detriment of women in the workplace, the home, society and in positions of power. I was cognizant that this book hasn't been released yet, so I had to bookmark all the pages and jokes I knew my family and friends would LOVE! I'm glad that these were organized the way they were, and not just all lumped together with no rhyme or reason- if I need to let off some steam about a specific situation I just have to open my new handy-dandy joke book and turn to the applicable section and I'M GOLDEN!! Sneak peek into some of what you can find per your own situation: - those annoying men at your job? WE GOTCHA! - those lazy men at home? HAHA YEAH, WE DEF. GOTCHA! - those turds who you have to PAY and they say it's all in your head? YUP, HE'S IN HERE TOO with his MD designation and chip on his shoulder. ^like, that's just a baby snippet....you're gonna want to snag this because it's gonna be THE THING, for real.

Really enjoyed that one! Some fun new jokes as well as old jokes turned onto men! Tried to remember a few to use in conversations but they all are definitely offensive, as the title suggests.

Thanks so much to the publisher and to NetGalley for giving me access to this book. I found this book very funny. It hits all the right spots for humor right now. I believe that there are a good amount of my patrons that will find this to be a great book for the times.

Initially, I thought this was going to be a fun read with humor at the forefront. However, while there were definitely certain jokes that were laugh-out-loud hilarious, a lot of the others felt more like social commentary rather than comedy (which I could totally get on board with, but just be prepared to confront potentially triggering issues like sexual assault, slut shaming and misogyny among others). Ultimately, while some jokes made me laugh, others made me pause in reflection, and the rest just made me sad. But this book accurately captures the realities of the world we live in today in terms of what women (still) have to deal with.

The jokes in this book were hilariously bad. I expected cheesy and literal but not so many that just didn’t have a punch line. Maybe it’s that I don’t find women’s rights funny or just wasn’t in the headspace for this, but I found myself mainly cringing or scratching my head in reaction to a lot of the jokes. The book does deliver on the title though… these jokes will offend (and possibly confuse) men.

OH DO I LOVE MEN SLANDER. this was really good. it was fun, funny and clever. while reading you are laughing but also reflecting on the reality of being a woman in this patriarchal society. you release that some things are truly horrifying and us, women deals with it without even sighing

of course, I’m becoming a little bit more misandrist after reading this

I appreciate what this book is trying to do, and as someone who's had a lot of the experiences being joked about in this book, there's definitely something cathartic there. That said...a lot of these jokes simply did not come off as funny or clever to me, and felt more like stating facts than putting a spin on misogyny. If I'm picking something up with the expectation that it will make me laugh, I don't want to read through a laundry list of ways women are oppressed with no punchline, ya know?

Jokes to Offend Men is a hilarious feminist book. It’s relatively short and easy to read. Perfect for anyone in a reading slump.

I requested this book because I love the title and was so excited to read the jokes but they just fell flat. I was expecting better, funnier jokes. Maybe they were supposed to be bad because men jokes are almost always bad, WAIT- I might be onto something with that theory. I’m going to tell myself that’s why the jokes suck and bump it from a 2 to 3 stars.

I was caught by this books title, and on reading the blurb felt this was something I needed to read, and whilst I did enjoy a chuckle here and there, there wasn’t as many jokes as I was expecting, this felt like more of a collection of insult comebacks or educational comebacks to sexist comments, and observational comments to the current society. I will not downplay these though as a lot of the jokes and statements are completely founded, such as;

“What’s found across every industry and through every generation but still considered an isolated incident? Unwanted Male Attention”

This statement was quite powerful for me as a women working in a male dominated industry this resonated with me, and upon sharing this on my social media I actually had other people messaging me asking if this was a statement to an admirer – further proof that women must be reacting to something rather than highlighting a problem. This book really did enact emotion from me, like I said I chuckled in places, but there were other times I was irritated and found myself really angry by the view of men, as well as the treatment of women. There were some places that I noticed huge differences that are experienced in the US in comparison to the UK, such as the comment on having a joke about the US healthcare system, but the author would “still be paying for it” something that those in the UK don’t have to worry about with the NHS

Either way I feel this is a great book to read, not just to “offend men” but to highlight the misogyny in the world (I cannot be the only one that fell for the Mayor and Governor comment right?) There are a number of statements and jokes in this book that really got me, but I’ll end my review by sharing my favourite;

“Why are so many action movies about men needing to “win back” their wives? Because it’s apparently easier to jump over a volcano or blow up the moon than go to couples therapy”

I wanted to give it 4 stars because we truly need this, it’s time to see who can’t take a joke now :) whoever, “Jokes to Offend Men” will be a 3 star for me. I laughed out loud at some of the jokes and others - while lacking a great punch line - are just too real to not be funny, specially the ones about how the men in your family just sit around doing the holidays, how my male cousin can say something and it’s deemed so smart, no one even thinks to doubt his sources but if that were me .. “and where did u read that? Can you back that up with real research?”. The chapter on nature was okay but definitely my least favorite and I’m a vegetarian so that’s saying something, just didn’t find it very amusing. Overall I hope to see more books following this example.

At the beginning of reading this joke book, I was taken a little aback by how much the jokes were centered on degrading women. The beginning was not funny, it didn't even make sense since these are supposed to be jokes to offend MEN, not women.

Towards the middle and end of the joke book, I found myself smiling a few times. They had a couple of good ones that I found funny but men would be offended by. That's the whole point of the book, so it sucks how the beginning didn't really reel you in.

This was a quick little dip into a promising premise. As women, we’re so used to hearing micro aggressions and “well intentioned jokes” all the time. Something the people saying these things don’t even realize they’re “joking”

Anywho, the promise was there. And I certainly did laugh at some of this. But I also wondered, “what about my trans friends? Would they feel the same way? Is this likely to be funny to them?”

I appreciate the intended spirit but wish this could have been a more inclusive effort.

i highly appreciate the concept of this book but the execution fell flat. it just felt like they took common jokes & phrases, replaced certain words to make it more fitting to a woman's experience but weren't very inclusive as the jokes only encompassed the cisgender, heterosexual & caucasian experience. i enjoyed a few of them but for the most part, it wasn't for me.

What's it about: It's a joke book. So it's about jokes. Like the books that your dad had about toilet humor but with topics like "jokes to offend men whose great-grandfather founded this school" or "jokes to offend men who are currently explaining Quentin Tarantino to you".

What I liked: Again, it's a joke book. So I liked the jokes!

What I didn't like: Not all of the jokes were winners. Some were merely observations about real things that actually happen and still exist which is actually just sad so...I guess the jokes on me then.

Would recommend if you like: say it with me now "JOKE BOOKS!" obviously if you don't think jokes about certain topics are funny or even slightly entertaining then this one isn't for you. Although, along with those Dad's funny toilet joke books, I think this would make a great gift. Especially for anyone who likes to fuck with the patriarchy or has been told they'd look prettier if they smiled.

Phew! I know these are jokes, but wow these hurt. This book has a unique take on how we talk about gender inequality, which isn't what I was expecting, but I was happy to see. This book is a prime example of "it's funny because it's true."

Listen, I hate men as much as the next feminist, but some of these were just not funny. Some were. I like the idea of this book but I wouldn’t buy it for myself or give it as a gift

I'm really glad I decided to read this one.

I laughed, I smiled and a lot of the times I was just nodding along because this book highlights the reality of what it's like to be a woman in this patriarchal society. Which sucks of course.

I've already recommended this to my friends and will continue to do. Every person should read this.
