This was a fascinating collection of jokes that would specifically offend men. The amount of jokes in here I either texted someone or read aloud was astounding because all of these jokes are a hit. And honestly if men are offended by them it's because they are following archaic standards. I really enjoyed this book and hope for a Volume 2.
thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review!
I'll admit I was iffy on checking this one out initially, but I'm SO glad I did. Jokes to Offend Men will, probably, offend men....but let's face it, the men who will be upset by these jokes are the ones that relate to it (ie: THE PROBLEM). I'm not offended by much, if anything because I like to live and let live and others' opinions don't have any bearing on my life- they sure aren't paying my bills!
I found these jokes sooo spot on- sadly because it's at the detriment of women in the workplace, the home, society and in positions of power. I was cognizant that this book hasn't been released yet, so I had to bookmark all the pages and jokes I knew my family and friends would LOVE!
I'm glad that these were organized the way they were, and not just all lumped together with no rhyme or reason- if I need to let off some steam about a specific situation I just have to open my new handy-dandy joke book and turn to the applicable section and I'M GOLDEN!!
Sneak peek into some of what you can find per your own situation:
- those annoying men at your job? WE GOTCHA!
- those lazy men at home? HAHA YEAH, WE DEF. GOTCHA!
- those turds who you have to PAY and they say it's all in your head? YUP, HE'S IN HERE TOO with his MD designation and chip on his shoulder.
^like, that's just a baby snippet....you're gonna want to snag this because it's gonna be THE THING, for real. You'll be the funniest human at your next party, having your friends spit out their drinks and nodding their heads in acknowledgment.
Thank me later, bits and bobs- this is the perfect book to have on hand! (Add wine, too, of course- IF YOU'RE OVER 21!!)
Funny, yes, but not funny 'haha,' funny 'too-close-to-home.'
My first thought was, 'even the title of this is going to offend a man,' and lo and behold, there's a shoutout to that on the first page of the text. Tons of people are going to hate this. A lot of the jokes aren't laugh-out-loud in any way, though some are actually hilarious. All are pointed and true.
I screenshot a bunch of the jokes because they're excellent rejoinders to things I hear from men -- yes, men -- especially on the internet, who will, of course, be offended. I don't know if this is the kind of book you keep going back to; it seems more like a read-once deal. Still, if you're not laughing, you'll at least be nodding.
A great "joke" book! Some of them are truly funny haha jokes, but a lot of them point out the problems society has with regards to men having more privilege, etc. than women. Some of them were so, so real and true in a heartbreaking way. I loved this though!
while i was appreciative to get this ARC and was immediately hooked by the title, the execution of a lot of the jokes fell a bit flat for me. there were obviously many great points made about the treatment of women and some even “clever” jokes to rebuke those stereotypes. however, since i had hoped majority of the jokes would land and that wasn’t the case, i give it a good 3 stars
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved that while it was comedic and sets of jokes, they were also just true circumstances that women experience in this patriarchal society. I also loved that each "chapter" or part ends with a joke about someone walking into a bar. I thought it was a fun connection between each grouping of jokes. Some of my favourite jokes include; "What kind of pasta can get a high school student suspended? Spaghetti straps." as well as "You'll laugh so hard it hurts, and then a doctor will say it doesn't." and "A woman walks into a bar. And she topples over it because being clumsy is her defining personality trait in this male-directed-rom-com." (This last one really rings true). I highly recommend it to anyone who is sick of the patriarchy, man, woman or anyone in between.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this digital ARC!
Funny and biting, I this book made me feel less alone in my thoughts but also lit a rage under me that the patriarchal pillars of society have created this system of oppression and danger for women, BIPOC individuals, those with religious views that aren’t indoctrinated into Republican belief systems and those part of LGBTQ2S+ communities.
I enjoyed this quick read!
The title caught my attention and it did not disappoint! Very quick read! I could definitely see myself coming back to this book and re-reading some of my favorite chapters. The jokes were certainly hilarious yet painful as they reflected well on our society. But some of the jokes honestly fell flat which is why I'm not giving it the highest rating. Nevertheless, I will absolutely recommend this book to my friends.
This is a fun read. Some of the jokes weren’t for me but over all I enjoyed this. I believe a majority of women can relate to these jokes. I would definitely recommend this to a friend, or get for a friend as a gift.
This title seriously appealed to this old 70's era feminist, but the "jokes" were really not funny, instead they landed flat to me because they were all just a sad commentary on the way the world really is (sigh)... perhaps that was the intent, but I just didn't feel like reading a hit parade of the patriarchy's worst. (and I feel sorry for anyone named "Greg"). Sadly, I can not recommend it. My thanks to the publisher & NetGalley for the "read now" DRC, which I was not obligated to positively review (obviously)...
This was such a fun, quick read that had me laughing out loud at several different points. Sadly (and also hilariously), each of these jokes reminded me of someone who would either benefit from hearing it or of one of my friends who I knew would also laugh at the reality we all seem to be sharing as women. This book is an arsenal of jokes you can use on the annoying "men" you will inevitably encounter throughout life, to include self-righteous coworkers, socially inept family members, that guy you thought you were dating but then realized you were babysitting/providing free therapy to, and so many others. 10/10 recommend to everyone who needs a good laugh and some new material to offend the fragile male ego.
Funny, thought-provoking and kind of sad at the same time.
Sad mostly in the sense that it's 2022 and women still have to work hard to be treated with basic human decency in our society. So it's really kind of a “cathartic spin on the old-fashioned joke book”.
When I saw the title and the cover of this book on NetGalley, I ran to click on that "request" button.
Sadly, this didn't meet my expectations.
I feel almost bad for saying this, but in the Introduction of the book, authors say this:
As four comedy writers, we've grown up hearing that "women aren't funny"
I don't agree with this, of course, but sadly, these four really weren't funny.
The jokes were nothing more than cringe. I'm sorry, this just wasn't for me.
I loved this! I downloaded it purely bc of the title, also love the cover! The jokes are witty, humerus and bold. there were a number I didn’t understand, from a lack of context experience, but those I did understand, i enjoyed. I laughed at so many and just felt a resounding comfort from them. i enjoyed the little reps of non binary people, the subtle queer rep and even the odd joke based on men not being the punchline, if that makes any sense, lol. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book and have already recommended it to my friends on Insta and fb! Clearly written, well done to the authors!
A fun light read. At times the authors hit so close to home you want to cry and laugh all at once. I definitely had several laughs out loud.
This was okay to me! I really wanted to LOVE it and I didn't have that feeling but I did enjoy it. It was very different to anything Ive ever written and I think especially in this time, it was an important read.
Thank you to Net Galley for this ARC.
I don’t think these jokes were bad but they just weren’t for me unfortunately and I rate based on enjoyment.
This has lots of good reviews and just like any joke or comedian they’re not for everyone so I would still recommend for people to give it a go.
✨ Jokes to Offend Even More Men
You can keep these in your back pocket (unless it's purely decorative).✨
This is definitely light on the jokes and heavy on the satire. Most of the lines were simply true, not quite funny. There were a few that had me chuckling, but most times I was just like “ugh so true.”
This will be a great present to bring to a white elephant gift exchange. There are fun illustrations, a cute cover, and I dare you to find more than ten lines that aren’t absolutely relatable to you or someone you know.
This book is a quick and easy flip-through akin to complaining with your best friend over dinner. I chortled several times, particularly in the section about men in the workplace. Some of the other jokes made me grateful to be a lesbian. This would make a great gift for a tired woman (i.e. all women). The jokes are hit-or-miss, occasionally unoriginal but ultimately relatable.
I found this book sooooooo entertaining, it's not only funny but informative in a way that you never expect a joke can be, turns out there are some things I didn't know were a problem until this book made a joke about it.
I love the illustrations on this book and the jokes that came along with them were the funniest.
This book brought up some issues that I am not informed about, and I'm gonna start looking into them in the future.
Really recommend it if you want to read something that's interesting as it is funny.
