Ahhh I absolutely loved this book! I love just about any Steel book, but this one was amazing. Can’t wait to add it to my collection!
Danielle Steel is one of my all time favorite writers. Her stories are something I look forward to every time they hit the shelves.
If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, you are going to love this book. Those who are not business minded individuals may find this is not one of their favorite stories. I fall into the first category so I very much appreciated how it is hard to read at times because of the rough waters that these characters start off treading. It accurately paints the picture of the corporate world and the way those who love entrepreneurship struggle to find the balance to "do it all". That means raising a family or having a solid, close marriage while also being a rockstar in the business world.
These characters are strong and very much show how things can be balanced and even if you have a rough start you can build something from nothing both in business and in a relationship. It's definitely different than the other stories from Danielle Steel but you have to appreciate her ability to build solid characters, make them true to life and to touch every demographic and challenge out there.
LOVE LOVE THIS BOOK! Danielle has written another 5 star book. This novel follows Brooke's journey after her grandpa dies leaves the family business to her dad. Her dad dies and leaves it to her. She puts her heart and soul into this business. This novel is about business, relationships, family and love. A must read.
Danielle Steel is one of the first romance authors I remember reading. I always look forward to curling up with one of her books.
Worthy Opponents is about Spencer Brooke, CEO of a luxury department store called “Brookes”. She inherited the department store from her grandfather. He was her mentor, and taught her everything about owning a department store. She wasn’t in the best part of town, and had some unfortunate thing happen. She didn’t want to let the store, her legacy, go. Spencer has to make some major decisions if she wants to keep the family department store.
I enjoyed this book and can't wait for more from one of my favorite authors.
“Worthy Opponents” is another wonderful book by Danielle Steel. “Worthy Opponents” has some suspense and romance. It is about Spencer Brooke, CEO of a luxury department store called “Brookes”.
Thank you NeGalley, Danielle Steel, and Radom House Publishing group - Ballantine for the ARC for my review.
What I admired most about Spencer is her fortitude and devotion to those inclusive of the store that were important to her. She was a true role model to Ben and Axl. With Mike, it was a shame that despite his great financial success, that he was so unhappy with his marriage to Maureen. However, he chose to leave that situation and as a result, became a better father to Jenny and Zack and ready for what he deserved. He and Spencer were true partners in every sense of the word and they brought out the best in each other. They were truly better together.
Worthy Opponents Danielle Steel. Although the narrative gets somewhat repetitious with the characters motivations and backgrounds, this is an enjoyable read. A heartwarming story of Spencer and Mike. The two are family orientated, compassion, hard working and caring.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.
Thank you Net Galley for an ARC of Worthy Opponents by Danielle Steel. Danielle Steel is the author I always go to for an easy read. She's straight forward will get stories and they always make me feel good. This one did not disappoint. I loved it!
2.5 Stars rounded up to 3
I have read many novels by this author and have given them mostly 4- or 5-star reviews. I have found them to be quick, entertaining, and sometimes thought-provoking novels featuring strong female protagonists. This latest offering was disappointing and was not one of her best.
Danielle Steel has a uniquely characteristic style that I have come to accept even though I find it tedious at times. Specifically, her third person narratives often contain a great deal of repetition of the characters’ backstories and motivations. This book is no exception and could have been one-third to one half shorter in length if the repetition had been edited out. It certainly detracted from my enjoyment of the storyline.
Spencer Brooke has inherited a unique department store known for its high-end inventory. The problem is two-fold. It is located on the border of a high crime area of NYC, and it was financially compromised by her father’s poor management skills. As CEO she is dedicated to preserving her beloved grandfather’s legacy. Spencer pours her heart and soul into salvaging the business, which needs a huge infusion of funds to survive, but is resistant to any change that threatens her control.
Mike Weston is a well-respected, successful investment broker who is attracted to both the store and its CEO. His offer to invest is soundly rejected by Spencer even though she desperately needs the cash. After a series of setbacks, she and Mike negotiate a compromise that both can live with and realize that they have forged both a professional and personal relationship.
Overall, Worthy Opponents was an okay read, but not one I can recommend. The storyline was predictable in its outcome with a feel-good ending, and the writing felt flat with one dimensional characters.
My thanks to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for the privilege of reviewing this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Another winner from Danielle Steel. A likable MC, with a story that’s light and easy to read.
Steel's writing was great as always. Her ability to tell a story and create rich characters is phenomenal.
Worthy Opponents was an engaging and interesting story that kept me invested in each of these characters.
Spencer drew me in and hooked me.
This book was another perfectly written Danielle Steel book.
A quick, entertaining, exciting new story.
I love how she crafts deeply meaningful stories and engages with each of her reader's.

Danielle Steel has done it again and give power to the woman in this novel. Spencer inherited Brooks store from her father who in turn inherited it from his father. When Spencer was a little girl she walked around the store with her grandfather. He was.
He was grooming her to run the store later on in life.. after Spencer turned l30 she was running the store with a fine^toothed comb. Spencer was also suffering from unforseen accidents which may close the store down comple. But all Spencer could hear was her late grandfather's talk of what to do when certain items arise. This is an excellent book. Way to go Danielle Steel
Danielle Steel is such an amazing author. She tells great stories and knows how to capture the readers attention from the first page.
Spencer was the granddaughter of a wonderful man who taught her everything he knew about his retail business. She had a strained relationship with her parents and eventually after the passing of both her grandfather and father, she took ownership of the high end retail store in NYC.
The CFO informed her that they need to look into investors to expand and keep the business strong for the future but she was admittedly against it. It belonged to her family for generations and wanted to pass it down to her sons one day, she didn't want to sell or lose controlling interests but after a series of unfortunate events things changed.
In comes Mike who was in a loveless marriage for years because he worked long hours as an investor to provide for his wife and children. The wife would never forgive him for not being there for her and the children and his house wasn't a home.
Events brought Spencer and Mike together, first as opponents then as allies by the end. It's a beautifully written book with a happily ever after.
I highly recommend it.
Thank you to Danielle Steel, Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, and Netgalley for this ARC!
Spencer Brooke is a successful young woman, who grew into a family business and eventually became the CEO of their luxurious New York City department store. Spencer proved to be very business savvy and committed to the rich history of the family business. However, life begins to pile on, and she is dealing with life after divorce, twin sons, and mounting pressures to expand the business and bring in investors.
Mike Weston is a New York City investor who is also dealing with a divorce, and two older children. He discovers Spencer's store and is immediately intrigued by what he has seen. Mike puts an investment offer together but Spencer realizes what a significant change that will be to both her and the business. However, the challenges begin to mount, and Spencer may have no other options.
Another Excellent book by Danielle Steel. She never disappoints me when I start a new book of hers. I know I"m going to get an outstanding book with relatable characters. Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced copy.
Danielle Steel makes you believe in “happily ever after”. If I had not needed to attend to such mundane tasks as sleep and work, I really would have finished this book much sooner. Worthy Opponents made me happy from the very beginning. The characters are believable and more importantly, you find yourself engaging and rooting for them, and in some cases, against them.
Spencer becomes the keeper of her grandfather’s legacy and works hard to maintain the family business. However, Murphy’s Law rears its ugly head, and there is one thing after another causing everything she has worked so hard to keep, to come tumbling down. Or does it? Mike is in a loveless marriage, finding solace in his work because he has no peace at home. Eventually fate intervenes and brings the two of them into each other’s orbit, and lo and behold after a bit of drama and a series of mishaps, we get an awesome ending.
This book has love, friendship, hope, drama and more love. Although I could not read it fast enough, I did not want it to end. I kind of wish that Ms Steel would consider a sequel. I would love to know “the rest of the story”. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book! I loved it!
This book was written by one of the world's most famous authors. This book was sent to me by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher for the electronic copy. This book is entertaining, intriguing, and just a good book. I enjoyed it from page one. No explicit scenes...no language...just characters who come alive on the pages. The book is fiction but reads like nonfiction, at times. The timeline is linear. There are a few red herrings, but the book comes to a resounding ending...love and romance...family and friends...careers...I liked this book. I really liked this book. This reminds me of some of the author's oldest books that I fell in love with. I will read this one again...don't miss it.
Danielle Steels book are always so easy to get lost in, this one was about generations of a family business and how it can mean different things to the members of the family. Spencer's grandfather taught her to love the family business with the hope that one day it would be hers. She honored everything he showed her, almost to the point of losing everything.
Mike is in a loveless marriage, works really hard to provide for his family but his wife constantly tells him what he is doing wrong, so he works harder. Spencers store is brought into Mikes orbit and he eventually tries to buy her out which she refuses, but fate intervenes and a series of accidents makes Spencer consider her options so she can save her grandfathers legacy.
This story has everything, family, drama, love and friendships. It had the very best ending. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC!!
