Really liked this one! I liked the audiobook cover > the print book cover. Love the sub-plots in this book and the setting. I would definitely read/listen another book from this author.
so sweet and tense. a second chance at that they didn't get to explore leads to some miscommunication, some tense moments, and some really sweet times. Narrator was ok
Morgan is headed back to her hometown to lick her wounds and restart her career. She’s agreed to help throw a Christmas festival to save the town – unwittingly signing up to work with her ex-best friend and former crush, Rachel.
While Morgan works to save the town and Rachel’s tree farm, sparks fly. I enjoyed watching Morgan gain self-awareness and learn to communicate with her old friends and family.
I received this audiobook from netgalley for an honest review.
This book made me happy. It made me want to live in a small mountain town and live on a tree farm. Luckily Morgan wanted the same thing. I will look for more by this author.
❄️ Book Review ❄️
In the Event of Love 🎧by Courtney Kae
Synopsis: Morgan Ross is headed home to Fern Falls, not to celebrate the holidays, but to plan an event to save her career. After a scandal in the tabloids, her event planning career is on the rocks. Back in Fern Falls, she crashes into her former best friend, turned former crush, Rachel Reed. It turns out the event will have her working closely with Rachel. As they navigate the event, Morgan and Rachel navigate their feelings for each other, for their families and for Fern Falls as a whole.
Review: Thank you @netgalley for the ALC of the audio of this book. It was like a Hallmark movie but with much more sex. This was a cute and quick read. While the plot wasn’t deep, this was a light and happy read, perfect for the coming winter. I loved how much representation was included in the book, the only thing missing was disability representation. The sex scenes were a little cheesy but who doesn’t like a little cheese. Overall, I enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read the supporting casts love stories in the next couple books. 4/5 ⭐️

I received an advanced copy of In the Event of Love through Netgalley so I could share my review with you! This book is a wonderful bisexual holiday romance, and was the perfect read to celebrate today with!
In the Event of Love is packed with wonderful elements, including:
-Two bisexual leading ladies
-A workaholic forced to return to her small town home for the holidays
-Saving the farm!
-Lumberjack love interest
-LOTS of steamy scenes
-Second-chance romance
In the Event of Love has everything I look for in a good, queer holiday story! I loved the use of the “workaholic and home-town hunk” dynamic, and how well it paired with the second-chance romance trope used in the book. This book was sweet, and just the right length to keep me enthralled the whole time.
In addition to reading a physical copy of In the Event of Love, I also enjoyed listening to an audiobook copy from Tantor Audio! Melissa Moran was the perfect choice of narrator for this steamy holiday romance novel. Her vocal cadence was just right for the pacing of this more slow-going book, and it wrapped me up in the world of Fern Falls.
My Recommendation-
If you love a classic feel-good Hallmark holiday movie story, then you won’t want to miss In the Event of Love! I would especially recommend this book to fans of Under the Christmas Tree and Christmas at the Ranch!
Content Warning: Alcoholism (of a family member), parental death (past), feelings of abandonment
Thank you to NetGalley and Tantor Audio for the ALC in exchange for an honest review
This was a reread for me and I enjoyed the book just as much if not more. The narrator was wonderful and did such a great job adding more to the story and just inflecting such emotion and the right tone to it. Just a great read and continuing to get me hyped for book 2
ALL the stars! The cozy sapphic hallmark movie of a book you've been waiting for. A recommended first purchase for collections where romance is popular.
Thank you Netgalley and Publishers for an advanced listener's copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. I had zero issues with the narration but was already struggling to get through this book as an ARC that I don't think the change of format helped all that much. However, I did read the latter half mostly through the audio copy.
I was so excited for a fun holiday read in the middle of summer, but I picked up and put down this book so many times. It's not a bad book by any means but I realized by roughly halfway (45-50%) into the novel I wasn't hooked on the couple's chemistry? I felt like we weren't seeing a lot of connection but rather a lot of lust.
I don't mind steamy scenes, nearly every romcom I read has them, but I think I didn't care for the scenes because I wasn't rooting for the couple?! We as readers understand they have past history but there isn't much happening in present day between them that I could possibly visualize their satisfying second chance love story. I just think the pacing of this novel and the way the romance was going wasn't working for me.
If I gave half stars, it would be 2.5 , as I'm merely disappointed I didn't enjoy this more.
This book was so cute!! I absolutely love hallmark Christmas movies. The cookie cutter formula for them never ceases to bring me joy even though I pretty much know exactly what’s going to happen in each one of them but that’s part of the joy of them, I think. My only complaint is that there just isn’t nearly enough queer hallmark Christmas movies. While they have become more progressive in the last few years, there’s still such a hole in the market for them and it makes me really sad. But this book fills that hole in a perfect way! It has all of the joy and ridiculousness of the most love hallmark Christmas movies but it is so unapologetically queer and I loved every second of it! Morgan and Rachel were both flawed characters with such big hearts and getting to see them find their way back to each other was just so beautiful. Also Fern Falls just seems like the most magical place and I can’t wait to read Ben and Adam’s story next year to get to live in the town again! Definitely recommend this one for any hopeless romantic and Christmas lover out there!
This was a cute Hallmark rom-com, with a second chance romance. I really enjoyed the atmosphere that the book created. Had a bit of a hard time with how quickly and easily everything got resolved, and one of the characters felt like they were only added so that certain, little things in the story could happen. The banter and inner dialogue of the MFC was great! And who can’t fall for a woman in a lumberjack coat <3 Overall, a nice holiday themed sapphic story!
A perfect addition to the holiday romance classics. I enjoyed this one, some parts that dragged a little although it didn't seem too long. Will definitely read the next in the series.
This is the first in the Fern Falls series, and I am SO glad, because I can't wait for more from this charming little town and its inhabitants! It really did have a Hallmark-level swoon factor, but with far wittier banter, and definitely more steam.
Morgan Ross just blew up her Los Angeles event planning career in one night...by accident. So in a bid to escape, and looking for a chance to redeem herself, she agrees to go back 'home' to Fern Falls and help plan a fundraiser event. What she doesn't realize is it's all a big setup. She ends up being forced to spend time with her former best friend and sexy-as-hell tree farmer, Rachel Reed.
Both women have quite a lot of emotional baggage and hang-ups from their childhoods that have been preventing lasting relationships as adults. But for a second chance at love with each other, they just might be willing to put in the work to move forward.
I loved all of the characters—not just Rachel and Morgan but the supporting cast were so wonderful as well. The banter between everyone was lively and often hilarious, and now I really need a fairy name of my own (IYKYK).
The audio was performed by Melissa Moran. Melissa was a new-to-me narrator but I'll 100% be looking out for more of her work. The audio comes in at 9 hours and 24 minutes, and once I started I had to cancel all plans to keep listening.
Morgan Ross is a popular event planner. But one mistake in a club one night while she is blowing off some steam results in media backlash. To get a break and let the media storm die down she returns to her hometown of Fern Falls determined to help with an event there and get her career back on steady ground. What she doesn't anticipate is the feeling that seeing her former best friend turned crush Rachel Reed. After a falling out and a failed first kiss, Morgan left town and never looked back. Now she is back in town working with Rachel to help her save her family's struggling tree farm. Rachel and Morgan and quickly reminded of their chemistry and strong connection and start to rekindle old flames, but will Morgan uproot her life and career to be with Rachel in Fern Falls?
This is such a fun small town, second chance romance. Morgan and Rachel are such great characters and you cannot help but root for them. I loved Rachel's brothers and her family so much and Morgan's dad added such a fun layer to this beautiful story. One of the reasons I love small town romances is that you get such a sense of the community it almost makes you wish you could transport to that magical place. Kae does that in this book and makes you want to move to Fern Falls and hang out with all of these amazing characters.
I so desperately want books for all of these side characters including Rachel's brothers and hope that Kae gives us more and more stories from Fern Falls.
I loved this book and will definitely be recommending it!
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Melissa Moran and her narration was spot on. Her voices and inflection were excellent and brought so much emotion to the story.
This was a solid 4.5 star read for me and I can't wait to read more from Courtney Kae.
Thank you to Kensington Books, Tantor Audio and NetGalley for an EARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Fun, sexy, and sweet. I loved how Courntey Kae whipped up a picturesque town with a great come back for a main character.
I received this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. ARC provided by Tantor Audio.
With her career as a Los Angeles event planner imploding after a tabloid blowup, Morgan Ross is not headed home for the holidays so much as in strategic retreat. Breathtaking mountain vistas, quirky townsfolk, and charming small businesses aside, her hometown of Fern Falls is built of one heartbreak on top of another.
Take her one-time best friend turned crush, Rachel Reed. The memory of their perfect, doomed first kiss is still fresh as new-fallen snow. Way fresher than the freezing mud Morgan ends up sprawled in on her very first day back, only to be hauled out via Rachel’s sexy new lumberjane muscles acquired from running her family tree farm.
When Morgan discovers that the Reeds’ struggling tree farm is the only thing standing between Fern Falls and corporate greed destroying the whole town’s livelihood, she decides she can put heartbreak aside to save the farm by planning her best fundraiser yet. She has all the inspiration for a spectacular event: delicious vanilla lattes, acoustic guitars under majestic pines, a cozy barn surrounded by brilliant stars. But she and Rachel will not have a heartwarming holiday happy ending. That would be as unprofessional as it is unlikely. Right?
This book was really a queer Hallmark holiday movie for better or worse. I really need the Hallmark movie now. This book was perfectly wintry with a little bit of holiday magic. I loved how things unfolded in this story. Everything felt natural and believable with a little bit of that rom com magic. Kae did an amazing job at making you feel as if you were in Fern Falls, with beautiful descriptions and details as she shows you around town. The story conflict makes you root for these people, and it's fun to see them all come together to pull off the fundraiser. Another thing I really adored was the entire friendship group, and how supportive they all were. It was super cool to see some of their old traditions still being there, and how Morgan got be a part of it once again. It was also interesting to reflect on career vs relationships and what we think we want. I especially loved Ben and Adam, and I can’t wait to read more about their story (cannot wait to read their story in book two). I would definitely recommend checking this one out if you want to read a quick and sweet sapphic holiday rom com!
A solid three stars.
LA transplant Morgan Ross has her shit together. She is killing it as an event planner and is planning the biggest wedding she ever has. That is until, of course, it all falls apart. Morgan is sent back to her home town of Fern Falls to lick her wounds and plan a small scale event to save the local tree farm (which is OBVIOUSLY owned by her former best friend/massive crush/first kiss, Rachel Reed). As Morgan (literally) crashes back into Fern Falls, we'll follow along as she attempts to mend lost relationships with Rachel, her other friends, her father, and herself.
This is a story of redemption, self growth, learning from your mistakes, and learning to appreciate where you come from.
To be blunt, I wasn't a fan of the story or the narrator for this one. I feel like the narration was over the top and dragged an already cheesy story down. When you go into a story like this, you're of course expecting the cheesy, Hallmark Christmas movie factor. But this one LITERALLY made me physically roll my eyes at least 10 times in the last hour. Please don't get me wrong, I LOVE cheesy romance. I love Christmas and the small town vibes and, or course, the LGBTQIA+ representation. But something about how this story was told rubbed me the wrong way. The "struggles" here were all simple basic lack of communication issues that could have been resolved with a single conversation, but led to Morgan not speaking to anyone she grew up with for 7 years. And also, if I had to hear ONE MORE TIME about Morgan's dad's rejected proposal, I would have had to DNF because it was brought up as an excuse for her shitty behavior about 84 times.
Over all, this wasn't a BAD story. It was light and festive. I'll more than likely pick up the sequel when it comes out. I feel like the concept was cute, but the execution just really wasn't what I wanted out of this story. I feel like comparing this to Casey McQuiston and Alexandria Bellefleur set my expectations high and I was let down.
Overall, I'm leaving this a little disappointed, but definitely still invested in the relationship between Ben and Adam for the sequel.
This ARC was given to me to review from the publishers (Kensington) and NetGalley. All comments above are solely my true opinion after reading this book.
I adored Rachel. She might be one of my book girlfriends now. I am a bit bummed we didn’t get her POV at all. I think it would’ve been amazing.
I had a hard time connecting with Morgan. So I think the the story being in just her POV made me not love this as much as I wanted to.
Also I needed a little more on the setting and the Christmas cheer vibes to be fully immerse in this contemporary romance meets winter holiday book. But it was definitely enjoyable.
A holiday season, second chance romance is just a perfect mash up! Morgan hasn’t been home to Fern Falls for years and after some unforeseen events force her hand she must return. Back in her small hometown she is (obviously!) reunited with her former flame Rachel. It is a second chance story, however thankfully the reason a second chance is needed isn’t anything that makes you think less of either character. Morgan and Rachel have great chemistry. This is definitely not a closed door romance!! Fern Falls is an enchanting setting for the story and I know the author plans more in the series which is exciting!
The book is told from only Morgan’s point of view and audiobook also has a single narrator. The narrator was clear and had distinct character voices, which made it easy to follow the story. The book has some flashbacks however the pacing of the story and narrative made this clear even without a book in front of me.
I received an audiobook ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
A sweet holiday themed romance that takes place in a small town where everyone is up in everyone else business, doesn’t let you forget a single thing, interferes with the best of intentions and sometimes just for sport. Its Christmas and Morgans career has suffered a setback. She goes to her hometown to work on an event not knowing it’s all a set up. She’s not happy, but old feelings bubble up and she agrees. Her best friend, her one time love is close to losing her business and their mutual friend has scammed her into coming back. Will they, won’t they figure it all out and get back together? Its irreverent, amusing, sweet, frustrating at times and sweet to an unsurprising, but adorable HEA. Great narration added to the nice listening experience.
