I love a good thriller novel and this one definitely delivered! Fast-paced, with lots of twists and turns and action and I finished it in a few days. Would definitely recommend it to fans of good thrillers and crime.

I was totally addicted to this book for probably the first half. Unfortunately then I found it quite unbelievable. I understand that sometimes a person might have to go to great lengths to protect what they see as their rewards but this was just over the top! The change from William being one character to a completely different one just made the plot unbelievable.

There are some incredibly surprising twists in this books. In fact it is almost like three books in one. The chapters alternate between David, William and Maria so we are able to get a real feel for the personalities of each of the main characters as their stories develop. Some of the plot twists left me staggered and made for a really good read with quite a satisfactory ending. Another great read from Daniel Hurst.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book

This was a very good thriller. It is well written and has plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader engaged throughout. I liked trying to piece everything together in this book as well. If you like thrillers don't miss this one.

Fast paced, twisty-turny, very enjoyable read. Lots of secrets and misdirects along the way, and while some of it may be predictable if you read a lot of these types of stories, there's still enough here to give your thriller seeker heart a thump!!!

I have loved all the books I’ve read by Daniel Hurst and this one was no exception. The concept of this book was intriguing and I thought I knew where it was going but I had no idea. At first that annoyed me but then I realized that was brilliant.

2nd of October was my spot on ZooloosBookTours for The Intruder by Daniel Hurst. I read this suspenseful and exciting thriller as an ebook for this tour and I’m so happy that I took part on this blog tour as I really liked reading this novel. I love reading thrillers and psychological thrillers. These are my favourite genres to read, and I try to read as many of these as I can. I, also, love reading novels published by Inkubator books. They are one of my favourite publishers and I’m thrilled to join blog tours with one of their authors. This thriller, then, was a perfect read for me.
I like how the author slowly revealed the sinister and ruthless nature of the main character. I really liked the character development in this novel and finding out all the dark secrets and lies in this seemingly perfect family as the story unfolded. This novel was dark, tense, thrilling and exciting, and once I started reading it I didn’t want to stop. This thriller held my attention and interest throughout.
In the future I’m hoping to read many more thrillers by Daniel Hurst as I really liked this one. I’m giving The Intruder 4 stars as I really liked this thriller and I know that other readers will like it too.

Get ready to be taken on a wild ride, with lots of plot twists and turns that will have your head spinning. 'The Intruder' by Daniel Hurst is my second book by this novelist- he lived up to his ability to write engaging and equally menacing characters.

The plot revolves around the affluent William and Maria Gallagher, power couple extraordinaire, who have everything going for themselves - a successful advertising company, beautiful children, and a lovely home. It all appears perfect; however, all is not as it appears. Cue disgruntled employee, David, who is set on enacting revenge on the duo as they have ruined his life. As the title suggests, he intrudes on their carefully constructed life, and what follows proves the old adage of not all that glitters is gold.

I enjoyed the fast pace of this novel; I was never bored and always looked forward to seeing what came next. The writing style was simplistic, but not so much that it lagged. I also liked the interchanging POVs, as this allowed for an all-rounded view of the three main protagonists.

I deducted one star as I easily figured out the 'whodunit' a few chapters into the book; this took away from the mystery element for me.

All in all, this was a great and quick read and I will definitely be on the lookout for more work from Daniel Hurst in the future!

*A great many thanks to Netgalley, Daniel Hurst, and Inkubator Books for this ARC. It is important to note that I was under no commitment to provide a positive review, and all opinions are undoubtedly my own.*

2.5 stars. This book started off well but then I found it got quite boring. I really disliked Maria and struggled to relate to her at all. It picked up towards the end

Wow. I hereby declare The Intruder my new favourite Daniel Hurst book!
I have previously loved The Break (and The Accident) by Hurst and this was even better!
The Intruder is one of those books where you think you know what will happen, but what actually plays out in the story is so far off the sphere you'd never have imagined any of it.
I loved the different POVs to give a varied experience for the reader, and the characters were fantastic. All clearly defined and so memorable as to never give the reader need to go back and check details as the story progresses.
There are so many twists in this book you'll laugh at how 'innocent' (ish!) it all starts out!
Fast paced and gripping, I absolutely raced through it and it couldn't be any more recommended by me.
Read it, I promise you'll love it.

They are a happy family and work well together. But there are secrets...
Inkubator Books and Net Galley gave me the opportunity to read this book for review (thank you). It has been published and you can get a copy now.

She thinks she has the perfect husband, but he lies. When one of their employees comes to take revenge, he kills him. He hires someone to dispose of the body.

Then the woman he has been sleeping with says she's going to tell his wife and he kills her, too. He disposes her body.

When he finds his wife is suspicious and checking on him, he decides she has to go, too. He orders food with peanuts in it because she is very allergic to peanuts. When he thinks she's dead, he calls the paramedics. But he is in for a surprise...

★★★★★ 4.5 stars (rounded up)

Daniel Hurst does it again! He never fails to disappoint and I know that whenever I open the pages of another of his books, he will take me on a ride pumped full of adrenaline that I will never forget. THE INTRUDER is an action-packed thriller from start to finish with a twist partway through that turns everything on its head and we wonder in which direction is this going to go now? What begins as pure unadulterated oblivion ends up a cat and mouse game of their lives. But just who will get out of it alive?

The perfect couple with the perfect marriage, a perfect house and a perfect business and working relationship, William and Maria Gallagher have it all. Their successful advertising agency has paid for their illustrious house offering magnificent views and their comfortable lifestyle. They have two children - Edward (7) and Penny (5) - both of whom they dote on and who want for nothing. Everything in their lives is as perfect as they are.

Or are they really?

When disgruntled ex-employee David breaks into their home one night in a revenge-seeking home invasion, their perfect lives are shattered and this is just the beginning of their troubles. He intends to ensure the Gallaghers admit that he was innocent of that which he was accused of and he was dismissed without a thorough and proper investigation. And he wants to know why. He has watched and waited for this moment and he resolves to see it through to a satisfying conclusion. So when he handcuffs them and bundles them into William's exclusive super-car, what is it that he has in mind for the couple? But he has nothing to lose, since he has already lost everything.

Little did he know, but David was about to begin the unravelling of dark secrets and cracks in his former employers' marriage...and ultimately, their business. Just who are William and Maria Gallagher really?

Events of the night lead the couple and their captor to a different house where William and David face off with Maria left in the car's boot. And suddenly the lies and deceit come to the surface threatening to uncover the betrayal and the sins of the past.

This is where things start to get interesting, wrapped up in workplace harassment, infidelity, betrayal laced with plenty of secrets, lies and deceit, you have no idea just who is going to come out on top in this cat and mouse game with a difference! One has secrets to hide and one is smarter than the other suspects. But who will outsmart the other?

WOW! Talk about an addictive jaw-dropping thriller! Daniel Hurst leaves no stone unturned as he cranks up the tension with every page in THE INTRUDER. Just when you think you know what's going on, he throws in another twist taking us in a completely different direction. And while you may have to suspend belief a little with some of the decisions made and actions taken, Hurst's writing is so compelling and addictive that it doesn't really matter because it is just soooo good!

The perspectives shift between Maria and David to begin with before progressing to those of Maria and William. And little by little, we watch as the perfect world of the Gallaghers gradually falls apart. I love the dark humour and the multi-layering of twists that keep coming keeping us engaged throughout until the final page. THE INTRUDER is another fine example of Hurst's completely compelling domestic suspense thrillers.

David believes he has been unfairly dismissed from David and Maria's company, and is innocent of any wrong doing. As the story unfolds, there is much more to the dismissal and what has been going on in the company. David takes drastic action which leads to terrible consequences.
Great thriller, with excellent twists and constant surprises!

I really struggled to get into this one. Maybe because I couldn't reconcile with a man waiting six months to terrorize a couple who fired him. There were also seemingly endless chapters detailing the couples happy marriage and work life. It all seemed too far fetched but I've enjoyed Daniel Hurst's work before and kept pushing through. There were definitely some big surprises I didn't see coming and definitely some I saw from a mile away. Otherwise highly entertaining and an ending with a twist.

**Thanks to Inkubator Books and Netgalley for my free ARC.

The Intruder is well written and has an interesting plot, however, upon finishing reading the story I had the feeling that it was simply a battle of good against evil and that good had to win. No wife can be so naive as to believe 100% in everything her husband says or does, humans make errors, such is life! He is so self-assured that he has all the explanations needed for his actions and he never sees himself as guilty, only as a protector of his family and his business (what an ego!). Despite these comments, the story provides good entertainment.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Read if you like:
- disgruntled employee drama
- cheater revenge
- dual perspective
- past and present storytelling

“An ex-employee who is still holding onto a grudge”
This story is told by 2 different people’s point of view, AND past/present 6 months apart: Maria, half of the wife/husband team that was forced to let David go because “someone filed a complaint about him” and David, who says he was totally innocent in the situation, and now vows to get his revenge on the couple. He sits and watches and waits for the perfect moment to seize that revenge…
Daniel Hurst is very quickly becoming one of my favourite authors!! He’s so good at writing jumpy, edge-of-your-seat thrillers that I just tear right through, unable to put them down for a second!
I love books that are told from multiple perspectives/time periods; I love trying to figure out how these stories come together to finally all make sense in the end.
I absolutely loved this book and I loved the ending. The whole entire book was full of interesting, exciting storytelling. Definitely no unimportant fluff in this book!! I would definitely recommend literally any one of Daniel Hurst’s books to anyone who enjoys jumpy thrillers that you have to read through in one sitting, because you just CAN’T put them down!
Thank you so much to Netgalley and Inkubator Books for my ARC in exchange for an honest review 💕
