William and Maria have it all, a successful advertising business, a lovely home, two children and a fast car. Their world however, is about to come crashing down when disgruntled ex employee David breaks in to their home one night hell bent on revenge is about to send their world spiralling, and secrets that are best kept hidden are brought to the surface. Will anyone make it out of this alive? And what is really going on between the seemingly floor less couple that they are trying to hide?
I did enjoy this book, the story had me gripped from the very first page. It was chilling and well written. I liked that it was written from the perspective of the three main characters, Maria, William and David. The only thing I would say is even though I really enjoyed it, I felt the story was a bit predictable, and I easily worked out what was going to happen next in some parts, however there were some twists that I wasn’t expecting!
Thank you Daniel and NetGalley for letting me read this book, I’ll defiantly be checking out this author’s other work!
Tgis was my 1st Daniel Hurst book and I found this to be a pretty average book.
I did feel like the book was a slight let down because I was expecting the book to be different than what it turned out to be from the synopsis.
I did put the book down a few times as it did become boring but I still picked it up and finished it. I felt the story was predictable from the start which was why I felt let down but even though it made me feel like this, the ending was good.
Thank you Daniel Hurst for allowing me to read your book and thank you netgalley for allowing me access to the book for an honest review.
This was a fast paced read that is action packed!!! All the secrets and twist had me unable to put this book down!!! The ending I'm still in shock!!! I will be checking out other books by this author!!
Thank you Netgalley and Inkubator books for this advanced copy!
I had high expectations for this book. I was let down by the far-fetched plot and how both main characters lacked emotions. I found nothing relatable to either of them and this made it more of a “story” to read.
Daniel Hurst does it again with The Intruder I love his writing this book was great I read it within a day.
I wish I had been a beta tester for this book rather than a reviewer. That way, I would have been able to provide constructive feedback. The rest of this review contains spoilers to explain why…

This book was way too predictable. In fact the first 50% of the book was incredibly predictable...
The book begins with a disgruntled ex-employee cornering the wealthy couple he used to work for. He had been falsely accused of sexual harassment, and it transpires that the actual culprit of this harassment is the husband, which is why he gets the intruder to drive them somewhere deserted and kills the intruder in cold blood while his wife is handcuffed and locked in the trunk of the car.
The reason he was so at ease with this murder is because he has done it before, he had killed the woman who he had sexually harassed when the pay-off had started to lose its appeal and not be enough to keep her quiet.
Early in the book, the husband had joked that if he was going to kill his wife, he would poison her utilising her apparent peanut allergy. And this was a remark that stuck with me.
When the wife begins to suspect her husband has been lying to her, the husband finds out and decides to take drastic measures (yes, you guessed it).
However, what really made the ending so predictable was how the wife was depicted earlier in the tome. She’s a meticulous control freak who doesn’t miss a trick.
I also found the husband character unrealistic and wooden, and the hiding of his lying should really have been noticeable to his wife well before crunch time, considering they not only live together but work together too.
That said it was a very readable book and reading it was a nice way to kill a bit of time. However, this is not a book I’d recommend and I will not be reading anything by this author again.
This book was really good. I'm not sure how Daniel Hurst manages to write so many good books in such short periods of time but once again I'm blown away by his writing. The intruder follows a power couple known as William and Maria. They own a highly successful business and run it together as well as take care of their two children at home together. Everything seems perfect to Maria but it is so far from perfect. One day when Maria and William are spending alone time at home an ex disgruntled employee shows up and breaks into their home. He wants revenge for being wrongfully fired. Will David get his revenge? The story just starts here....there are so many twists and turns after David shows up. How long will the family secrets stay buried? Not every one makes it out alive and nothing is what you think it is. Will David outsmart William or will it be the other way around? Check out Daniel Hurst New novel the intruder this fall!
This story is told from different peoples perspectives. I didn't feel any engagement to any of the characters. An easy read
This wasn’t my first book by the author and I knew I will be engaged in the story. The cover and description are a real hook for readers seeking a great mystery story.
Some families seem to have it all, high-profile business, a big house, children and a settled life. But, as usual, nothing is as shiny as it looks like behind the curtains.
An ex employee wants revenge after he lost his job because of unproven charges.
You can only imagine what happens when that comes to life and he kidnaps the couple.
What follows next is a rollercoaster of events, mostly from the past few months. The chapters are told in both main characters’ narratives and that made the story flow easier.
It is a fast-paced and uncomplicated read, especially if you love domestic thrillers. The twists are balanced in predictability with the surprising ending, I would say.
Overall, it is a good book that many readers will enjoy.
🆓📖 Very grateful to the author and publisher for my review copy through NetGalley

Great read, and a stay up all night read, I enjoyed very much.
I was so excited about this book - based on the synopsis and the cover; I loved both! But the writing isn't working out for me, and I am bored. I got several chapters in and just felt the writing needs a lot more tuning up, which is a shame because the synopsis is so intriguing!
This will have to be a DNF for me - I'm sorry. The book has great reviews, but I am not feeling it. I think this is a good entry thriller, but for someone who avidly reads them, it was boring. I don't know any of the twists, or how it ended.
The synopsis of the actual book feels completely different, at least from the portion of the book I did read.
I wouldn't recommend this one.

Another great book from one of my favorite authors. A former employee kidnaps the husband and wife team who owns the company he worked for. As the story progresses lots of secrets are revealed. I really like this author because his stories are all really different .
Wow!!! This is the first book I've read from Daniel Hurst, but not the last. It was full of twists I wasn't expecting, not just at the end of the book but the middle as well. It is smoothly written and each chapter is from the characters point of view (which I enjoyed).
This book is about a couple that have two children and a successful business they worked hard together for. They truly have the life most want, until one night someone uninvited comes into their home. This disrupts their lives in more ways than what you expect.
This book had me hooked from the beginning. I love this authors way of writing and just how amazing his work is. He keeps you hooked and it gets better and better as you read. Great book!
Getting into their house was easy. The hard part was getting out.
Maria and William seem to have it all. Two happy children. A beautiful house. A thriving business.
But when their home is invaded by David, an ex-employee with a score to settle, the couple face a terrifying fight to survive.
During the course of one hellish night, David picks apart their carefully constructed life. Secrets are unearthed, truths revealed.
And soon David begins to wonder if he’s bitten off more than he can chew – because he’s discovering Maria and William are not the defenceless couple he imagined. By the time he realises who these people really are, it may already be too late…
Who will make it out alive?
One couple. One intruder. Several shocking secrets…
Although I have a few of Daniel Hurst’s books on my Goodreads TBR, unbelievably- this is the first book I have actually read by him!! This book was a fun, easy read that was fast paced, and although I liked the book, I found the writing to lack depth – it was just a bit basic to be able to give a higher star rating! It won’t deter me from reading some of those books of his waiting to be read on my TBR though.
My thanks to the author and Inkubator Books for my advance copy to review via NetGalley.
💷💷💷💷 .5 / 5
This one was super addicting, and I didn’t want to put it down. I carried my Kindle with me all over Scotland so that I could read this while waiting for our food, traveling on the tram, and hanging out in the hotel. While I was able to guess some of the twists, I was still blown away by the storytelling and detail, and the ending was *chef’s kiss.* This was my first book by this author, but it definitely won’t be my last—thankfully, he’s written a ton!
Maria and William are a happy couple who seem to have it all…until their ex-employee David invades their home and secrets start to be revealed.
After the first few chapters of THE INTRUDER, I found myself actually having to put it down for fear that I would have nightmares - I thought I had found the book that would freak me out, while also keeping me engaged from one page to the next! I was wrong.
After the first several chapters, the story completely unravels, and I found it extremely predictable and boring. I honestly felt hoodwinked by the synopsis and it felt like I had picked up an entirely different book.
If you’re new to the thriller genre, you may enjoy this one because it is fast-paced and has a lot of typical “twists” that one would encounter in this genre, but as someone who’s read a lot of thriller, mystery, and action-packed books at this point, it was a miss for predictability for me.
I wish those first few chapters were an actual impression of what the book would become…

When Maria and William are kidnapped from their home in the middle of the night by an ex employee they fired from their million dollar business, the suspense starts and just never lets up.
A great thriller that has Maria going behind her husband's back to investigate him, after the terrifying night they spent with the ex employee.
Things are not as cut and dried as they may seem to be and the story just gets more and more intetresting.
Good character and plot development with the "look back" feature used exceptionally well.
A fast paced but predictable thriller. Overwritten in places and too much description of domestic matters especially at the start.
I was intrigued by the Intruder right from the start.
William and Maria own a successful ad agency. They work a lot to keep their business thriving. They have a happy home life with their children.
When David is fired from the agency after sexual harassment accusations, he maintains his innocence. Months later David decides to get his revenge and breaks into the couple's home. What happens next changes the entire story.
The characters were well written and realistic, even though some are unlikable.
The ending is pure gold.
