This was such a great book, I finished it in just a day! It's The Intruder by Daniel Hurst which I received from Inkubator Books via Netgalley and it will be out on the 21st of September.

Imagine you have a great company with your spouse. A beautiful house and two lovely children. Not a worry in sight. That's the life of Maria and William. But then, ex-employee David breaks in and keeps you hostage because of something you did. Secrets come out and the truth comes to light. David starts to question whether he made the right decision to do this. Is the couple really that defenceless? Isn't it too late for him now?

This was one great thriller! The story is a great one, with twists you don't immediately see coming and the characters are well-worked out. If you like a domestic suspense thriller with a not so obvious and clear-cut storyline, you should definitely read this!

Maria and William are prosperous business owners with two children.

One of their ex employees who was dismissed for sexual harassment, and feels that he was unfairly dismissed, invades their home and handcuffs them to try and convince them that he was innocent of the accusations.
He has tried to contact the woman that made the accusations, but she has left the company and disappeared.

Maria finds that all is not as it seems in her marriage, and in the business, and she starts making enquiries of her own, finding out that there was definitely more going on that she never had suspected.

I enjoyed this book immensely, it was fast paced and plenty of twists to keep the reader guessing.

Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

What an exciting read from a very talented author. An exceptional crime psychological thriller that had you trying to unsuccessfully second guess the plot. Plenty of twists and turns that lead to an exceptional ending you do not see coming. I will be reading more books from this great author. Well worthy of five stars.

Yet again, this author captured my interest and intrigued the whole way through out the book. It focuses on the journey of a rich and successful married couple and explores the hidden and dark passages of their marriage and work. This was yet another Daniel Hurst book that I was unable and unwilling to put down.

Another gripping thriller from this author. Once I started reading The Intruder it was very hard to put it down, hence I read it in a few hours. Maria and William Gallagher look to have a happy family life and a successful business.. A disgruntled former employee wants answers. This book certainly didn't turn out as I expected . Look forward to the next book by this author

Holy heck this was an amazing book! Thanks so much for NetGalley and Inkubator Books for the ARC!
I loved the multiple points of view and how easily the chapters were divided by POV and whether it was set in the past or present.
I wasn't sure what to expect when reading this but oh boy was I pleasantly surprised. When I tell you this had twist after twist, and not to mention the fact that the action started almost immediately. I never knew what the next thing was going to be, and the twists blew my mind.
The amount of hatred I had for one of the main characters was intense.
I will definitely be reading more books from this author, I'm so glad I discovered him!

A straightforward story of a couple with secrets being confronted by a man that was wronged. An entertaining read. I really appreciated that everything was tied up in a neat little bow by the end. That always makes my heart happy.
I tend to like Daniel Hurst's premise of bad things happening to "normal" people, and this one didn't disappoint. Overall it was quick-paced, kept my attention and enjoyable.

Thank you to Inkubator Books, Daniel Hurst and Netgalley for the ARC to read and review.

This is my first book by Daniel Hurst and I really enjoyed it. Plenty of twists and while some were predictable, wanting to see justice done kept me hooked until the last word. Hurst did great with character development. Immediately, I loved Maria and was rooting on her intelligence and ability to stay a step ahead. Great book and I'm looking forward to reading more from Hurst.

Thanks to Netgalley and Inkubator Books for the ARC.

Another fantastic book by Daniel Hurst! Love how the suspense grew throughout and definitely didn't see that ending coming! It was a nail bitingly good read!
He is absolutely a brilliant writer.

Summary:
A husband and wife team of a thriving business, according to an employee, make the "wrong" decision when firing him. Little did they know a quick decision would put them through so much hell in just one night.

Of course there is a couple of plot twists as the summary above can't be all there is to the story.

This is a must read book! Make sure to order it Sept 21st!

BOOK REVIEW - ⭐️⭐️

I see Daniel Hurst books get recommended a lot but I’d never read any myself, so when The Intruder became available to review on NetGalley I jumped at the chance to read it.

And I was really disappointed.

Firstly, I did love the sound of plot.

Maria and William seem to have it all. Two happy children. A beautiful house. A thriving business. And the perfect marriage.

But when their home is invaded by David, an ex-employee with a score to settle, the couple face a terrifying fight to survive…

But, that’s not really what the book is about. I was expecting a thrilling ride wondering who would make it out alive (as suggested in the blurb) but the home invasion aspect is concluded with the first half. The title is a complete red herring. In fact, the second half felt like a completely different book.

Secondly, I felt the timeline jumped a bit. One chapter Maria was staying at work late. The next chapter her husband was out at a bar. No mention of how long had past into between the two, or what had happened in that time. Was a chapter missing?

Lastly, I really struggled with the writing, especially the dialogue and the voice of David. It felt inauthentic and seemed very basic, and almost a little cheesy at times.

The whole thing thing felt rushed, as though the author had a deadline to meet so took two ideas and tried to put them together to make one story, which just didn’t work for me.

I’m not completely put off this author, though. I’ve heard great things about The Couple At Table Six so I think I’ll give that a go at some point before making up my mind.

Thank you Netgalley and Incubator Books for this ARC.

A gripping read that drew me in right from the very start and didn't let me go until the end. Well written with a compelling storyline and well developed and incredibly flawed characters that added to the unpredictability of the book. Twisty and kept me guessing all the way through.

I mean it when I say this authors books get better as each one comes along, and I also always say that the last one of his I read is my favourite, but I think this time, this one has to be my favourite of all! Wonderfully flawed characters, a gripping plot and an excellent twist make this an adrenaline filled thrill ride of a read!

A little bit mediocre, lacking in punch and over providing in unnecessary detail.
I just couldn’t get hooked here, which I am sad at because the premise is excellent.

Maria and William Gallagher have it all, a booming business, a happy marriage and a beautiful family. David is a former employee who was let go for reasons he is adamant he’s innocent, and his life has crumbled down around him in the fallout. Now he’s out to exact revenge on the Gallaghers, but his plans aren’t executed as expected, and the night takes some surprising turns!

Overall, this book was suspenseful, gripping, and had that hook that kept me reading late into the night to finish. It had some great twists I didn’t expect, but had others that I figured out early on.
My only main complaint is that at times, especially in David’s narrative, the writing seemed very basic and lacked depth or complexity for me. The book had a great plot and ending, I just needed a little more in the narrative.

Thank you Netgalley and Inkubator books for my
ARC of this book in exchange for my honest feedback!

Gripping, intense, and utterly binge-worthy!

With shocking secrets and multiple perspectives adding to the suspense, THE INTRUDER is another twisty, clever cat-and-mouse fast-paced thriller from Daniel Hurst—For readers of Kimberly Belle's My Darling Husband and Kaira Rouda's Somebody's Home.

Who is the cat, and who is the mouse?

Told from POVs: William, Maria (husband/wife), and David (their ex-employee). Timelines: From the present day, three years earlier, and 6/7 mos earlier.

A home intruder out for revenge, unraveling dark secrets and cracks in his former employer's marriage and business. Turning to murders—in this riveting multi-layered thrills by the minute psychological suspense, keeping you on the edge of your seat to the final twisty delicious, and satisfying conclusion.

Meet the Gallaghers - William and Maria. They own a successful advertising company, Gallagher's Ad Agency, and live in a beautiful home with two children, Penny, age 6, and Edward, age 9. They appear to have a perfect marriage, but do they?

They have just won the Best Business Award for 2022.

While they are receiving their award, something more sinister is in the making which will change the course of Gallagher's life.

Meet David Hendricks; an ex-employee fired six months earlier from Gallagher's Ad Agency. He is holding a grudge and will make his employers pay. He wants revenge and is prepared to murder, equipped with a knife.

It involved an allegation against Adelina, another woman who worked in the company, for sexual harassment. But David says it is not valid, and he cannot afford to get an attorney. There was no investigation with HR. Something is not correct. Now he cannot find a job, lost his partner, and has nothing to lose. The Gallaghers will pay. He is out for revenge.

He dresses up in disguise and makes his way to the company where he worked, but after waiting in the office, the owners do not return from the award ceremony. He asks for their address under the disguise of an old friend and makes his way to their home, entering an unlocked door.

However, once inside the house, other events occur, leading them to a different home where William and David are in a house and Maria is left in the car trunk.

Lies, secrets, deceit, betrayal. Evil sins of the past.

This is where things start heating up. You have no clue where the author is taking you, but you are dying to see where it leads and on board for the ride. We soon realize David may be the victim, and William may have dark secrets and will stop at nothing, including murder, to keep those secrets buried.

However, Maria is smarter than William suspects. The twist at the end will keep your heart pounding to the conclusion, which left a smile on my face!

I thoroughly enjoyed THE INTRUDER! The author cranks up the tension with every page turn. I read in one sitting— my favorite Daniel Hurst book.

An utterly compelling thriller with jaw-dropping twists. I enjoy how the author takes readers to places you least expect with an element of surprise, showcasing his talent for exceptional domestic suspense.

I also love the dark humor, narcissistic characters, and multi-layering with the plot twists you do not see coming. All relatable characters. You will be rooting for Maria until the end. What is scary is this could actually occur in real life.

I am looking forward to reading more from this author and currently making my way through his backlist. Highly recommend!

A special thank you to #InkubatorBooks and #NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
