I enjoyed reading Elodie Colliard's debut novel. I felt for Avery instantly and wanted to be apart of the friend group that is Avery, Josh and Brooke. Each chapter is named and based on a playlist creatively crafted by Colliard herself. Fans of romantic reads and supporting debut authors will enjoy The Last Encore. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks to NetGalley for the book!
All I’m gonna say it I’m obsessed!
It has one of the best covers of 2022 in my opinion. I fell in love with the cover AND the story.
It is such a fun and interesting romance novel. Many people will love this book. I fell in love with the writing style and will check the author.
I recommend it to everyone.
I feel so happy that I got to read The Last Encore because it gave me all the happy fuzzy vibes while made me so nostalgic. We follow two main characters well especially Avery Who is a photographer and she is trying to open her own business and just you know being a confused and nearly 30 years old adult. She has a lot of trauma and self-consciousness and her self-esteem is not the greatest. So when I had a party her childhood best friend ex best friend Joshua shows up she is totally shocked and just a race do you go outside with him and talk about life and what happened to them and about the fact that this guy just ran away to Europe when she, another friend and himself were the best friends ever. Also Avery has always had a crush on him. So as expected the hang out a lot and try to reconnect and just you know for the gaps in the relationship and as the time goes on they kind of drift back to each other so I would tell that this book is the perfect second chance romance you could imagine. It is entertaining kind real and very row touching on every aspect of relationships and trauma that was closed in previous relationships and the uncertainty of the future and what kind of decision is going to move forward or going to send to backwards.
It was a little bit steamy but not overwhelming and more focus was on the friendship and fighting the way back to each other. If you like quick reads that has a lot of deep meaning within the pages and makes you think about life but also entertains you for a few hours I highly recommend you picking up this book.
Thank you so much for Victory Editing and NetGalley and the author for letting me read an advance reader copy and tell my thoughts on this book.
As far as debuts go, this was a pretty solid story. There was SO much to love. From the beautiful cover to the mental health rep. I honestly do not regret reading this at all.
This book was an emotional experience. The author's writing was superb, the characters were well-crafted, and the story was engaging. I would highly recommend reading more from this talented writer!
Thank you Netgalley for the advance copy of "The Last Encore". This is my honest review for the same
Last Encore is a cute book with your generic rom com elements where one person (Avery) loves another person (Josh) and they go away, and when they return they fall in love all over again with hiccups. Those hiccups are usually due to lack of communication. There are a lot of triggering items like rape, divorce etc.
Overall the story had a lot of ups and downs. All the chapters have a song associated with them. You can actually play the song on the loop while reading the chapter and it plays like a movie in your head. It also has amazing call-outs from different TV shows and songs. Oh and it has super hot sex scenes which got me all blushing in public. It did have a little flat ending for me and was a little like your regular hallmark movie. All in all, definitely worth one time read, though I have higher expectations from part 2.
Reasons to read this book:
• Damn good music
• Best friend goals
• Hot sex scenes
So get your rom com mode on with a Mexican dish called Concha and cafe and let's get that playlist humming with the book.
Avery thinks she has her life figured out until the ex who unceremoniously vanished from her life waltzes right back into it ten years later. He’s still very much in love with her, but Avery isn’t so sure. Her heart is still mending from when he left, can she give him a second chance?
This was a cute, quick romance that I mostly enjoyed. Avery’s internal conflict felt forced, and not fully fleshed out, with a plain intention in the narrative to tease sex for the sake of sex until they finally give into all their desires. It felt like a one-dimensional romance as a whole, and a completely one-sided, made up conflict on Avery’s part to drive the plot forward and keep them apart until they finally confess their love for each other and live happily ever after, but such is the nature of romance as a genre.
Not really my cup of tea, but enjoyable nonetheless. Romance readers who love the spice in their books will like this one.
Took me a while to get into this book but I enjoyed it once I got going. A cute, fun and easy read that a lot of romance lovers will enjoy!
This was everything a great romcom should be and more! The complexity of Josh and Avery’s relationship was both heartbreaking and gorgeous all at the same time !
I cannot wait to read more of Elodie’s work
This book was fine. I really liked hearing about Avery's work as a photographer with weddings and the birth/newborn photos and I wish there had been more of that. It did feel a bit like avery and Josh were a bit forgettable and the issues between Avery and her dad are kind of dropped halfway through the book. I didn't love the resolution of the third act breakup since it didn't seem like Avery really worked through her trust issues at all they just suddenly ended up back together.
Huge thank you to Elodie and NetGalley for allowing me to read an advanced copy of The Last Encore.
I really enjoyed this one! I found it super easy to read and I flew through it. Elodie’s writing flows really well and I thought it was a great debut novel.
I really appreciated Elodie’s inclusion of some tougher topics in this book. Although they were difficult to read, I found them to be handled really well. I look forward to reading Elodie’s next book!
Thanks to Netgalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-Op for the eARC in exchange for and honest review. All opinions are my own.
I’m a sucker for romances these days and I was elated to be approved for this opportunity.
Elodie Colliard’s debut novel was beautifully written. This is the perfect friends to lovers, second chance romance. It isn’t all rainbows and butterflies and you should definitely pay attention to the trigger warnings. This novel is real, raw, and beautiful.
I can’t wait to see it yay Elidie Colliard does next!
ARGH.
I really hate to write reviews about books I did not enjoy but I really have to because I promised Netgalley that I would. Here we go:
This is about Avery and Josh who were best friends in high school and then something happened and then they got separated and Josh left to Europe and Audrey stayed in Canada being sad.
The thing is that there wasn't any plot to it, most of the book was just Avery SAYING things. Her talking about how she and Josh were best friends but never like any indications of their friendship except her SAYING they were, and then Avery talking about her clothes and her body and her cat but never really anything going on.
I also kind of hated the ++++TRIGGER WARNING ALERT FOR SENSITIIVE CONTENT++++ use of a sexual assault in the book context. I really felt like it was there just for dramatic purposes. Like I know it's an important topic but to me it just felt like it was written for there to be an acceptable enough reason for things to fall apart like that. I don't know.
And in the end I just really felt like the book kind of was a little too fanfic? Anyway, try it for yourself and like always, don't let me be in the way of you and the books you are excited about.
Absolutely gorgeous debut from Elodie Colliard. What I thought would be a breezy romance turned out to be something much deeper and more beautiful than I could have anticipated. The anxiety rep, the consent, and the real life look at relationships, set this book apart from your typical rom-com. I can't wait to see more from this author.
This book really just took me for a ride. I loved the build up, the character development, and the writing. I would definitely read more from this author!
I loved this story! It is beautifully written with all the feels, love lost, love found again. The author was spot on when it comes to anxiety attacks with panic from trauma or PTSD. I have tried to explain it to people but they really don't understand unless they have been through it. When you have a mental illness, you get better, but it is always with you, like weather you learn to roll with it. I have lost friends because of it and now have a small circle of friends like Avery. You have that ride or die friend that will show up like Brooke and sit with you till the storm passes.
I like this line from the book " She was the prey, and her anxiety was her number-one enemy." I could see this story as a movie, the love between Avery and Josh was so real to me. The writer did such an amazing job I felt the love and when Josh played the piano, I could hear it and it brought tears to my eyes.
I am really looking forward to the next book from Elodie, I will be in line to read it.
Avery needs something big to happen, that will distract her from family drama and spiking anxiety. She is trying to make a name for herself in her photography business. At a charity event she attends she runs in to a lost love, he left her ten years ago and broke her heart. When they reconnect, feelings are brought to the surface can they get back to where they were? They have both changed since he left, but their hearts have not. Can they face the past and the feelings they have without heartbreak?
Thank you to NetGalley and Elodie Colliard for a copy of this beautiful story for my honest review.
Woowwww, everyone who knows me, knows how much I love a good pine. And these two were a whole forrest full of pine-trees! I loved so many things about this book that I will absolute forgive, that the writing was a tad clonky at times. Childhood friends to lovers is such a lovely yet difficult trope to do and this was nothing short of adorable. I also liked the mentions of Mental Health struggles and thought that was very very well done!
What I really like about this book was the main character, Avery: she felt very real, her path was relatable and I was very invested in the beginning in knowing more about her development. Avery is a photographer trying to be successful and, as an artist myself, I really identified with her struggles and trying to keep up with motivation even if things are not going as you expected. And expectations are a tricky thing as I expected the story to focus more on this, seeing as Josh is also an artist (a pianist to be exact) whose career is not going great. However, the plot line ended up focusing more on their relationship and I lost a bit of interest here. Although I enjoyed them together if felt a bit rushed and at the same time the things that were keeping them from "happily ever after" didn't really feel like a real problem. It was a tad bit predictable. The secondary characters were there really just to carry on their story and I wish they had had a bit more development.
I'd still recommend this book as it was light and enjoyable and I'll definitely read the next story!
Absolutely 💗 brilliant 💗
I loved every page! This was an incredible debut 👏🏻 the writing, the characters, the story, were all incredibly well done! And it is set in 🇨🇦!!
Avery is an admirable character, and the realness of her was 100% relatable in so many ways! Her anxieties, her strengths, and her passion were clear through everything she does, & make her the beautiful person she is. And Josh 😍 I can’t say enough great things about him! The ultimate book bf!! And his loyalty to his family, & himself, were perfect 💗 I loved see both Avery & Josh chase their dreams, & cheer each other on in the process.
It is no secret this book has some tough topics in it, but the respect & care Elodie used was beyond perfect. I feel honoured to have read her story through Avery, & support her every step of the way.
This book needs to be read, shared, talked about, EVERYTHING! It has it ALL! My bookshelf is slowly growing with self published authors, & I couldn’t be more proud to add this one as well 💗💗
Thank you @elosreadingcorner & @netgalley for the early copy 🥰💕
I'm still unsure how I feel about this book. I want to shout from the roof tops and promote the hell out of it because a fellow bookstagrammer wrote a book but honestly I wasn't that into it. There were a lot of things I couldn't get on board with for this story and I was left disappointed. It wasn't great but I didn't hate it either. So 3 stars for me
