Who doesn’t love the story of Arthur Trulove? In this prequel, we learn how Arthur meets Nola and how their sweet romance blooms from casual friendship to their loving marriage. Often slow, because nothing much really happens, but always warm and enjoyable, this is a must read for fans of Elizabeth Berg.
Thank you, Emani Glee and the Random House Publishing Group for providing me with an ARC copy of her latest book and fourth book in the Mason, Missouri series entitled Earth's the Right Place for Love
Fans of the octogenarian Arthur Moses in The Story of Arthur Truluv will be thrilled to meet Arthur as a young teen in this heartwarming and heartbreaking coming-of age prequel. This calming and homespun story feels just right during a Pandemic and global political upheaval. Let's call it a trip down memory lane to a somewhat simpler time before cell phones and social networking. I fell in love with Arthur and especially the relationship he had with his older brother, Frank and complex relationship with his future wife, Nola McCollum.
There is all the angst of everyone's teen years; unrequited love, personal insecurity, complex family relations, tragedy, and the dangers of a bullying two-faced crowd. There's the joys of acceptance of self, the healing powers of time spent in nature, the pleasure of new friendships, the belief in second chances, and acceptance that grief won't smother you and hope is always there. I read the book in one day and I will admit it left me with a warm glow and smile on my face.
Reading an Elizabeth Berg books is always as refreshing as a visit with a beloved relative or friend. A visit with a young Arthur Moses is a wonderful addition to what we know about the man he became - and we get to meet Nola, too!
Arthur Truluv's back story - finally! Always wondered how Arthur and Nola fell in love? Here's where it all starts. A lovely companion to Berg's other books in this series.
It is both an honor and a privilege to be one of the first to leave a review for Elizabeth Berg‘s new book. I have found all of her books to be such a comfort, starting with “Talk Before Sleep” in the 90’s. I loved the Arthur Trulove stories and this prequel was no exception. The characters are real and I always feel uplifted by the wisdom that at least one of them imparts. The story of how Arthur,as a teen, struggled with such a major loss, made my own heart hurt and I was happy for him in the end which was exquisite.
I love the attention to detail that the author gives us. She makes us feel like we are right there in the middle of the story with the characters. As an author myself, her fiction inspires me to be a better writer.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Arthur is a high school student in Mason, Missouri who has a crush on popular Nola McCollum. She is more interested in Arthur's popular older brother, Frank; Nola has placed Arthur in the friend zone. Arthur likes life in the small town, but after a terrible tragedy, he has to adjust to his new reality. If you enjoyed Berg's Book, The Story of Arthur Truluv, you might like to read about Arthur's formative years. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I would like to thank @penguinrandomhouse for this ARC of Earth’s the Right Place for Love. This was an emotional coming of age story about Arthur from the Arthur Trulove books as a teenager and how he met his wife. It is about love and family and heartbreak. I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading the other books in the series.
Thank you to Random House Publishing Group and NetGalley for providing this ARC. I had read Night of Miracles and really enjoyed it. I knew this book would not disappoint and it didn't. I immediately fell in love with the main character Arthur from the first page. It is a journey about a young man's life as he struggles to deal with all that life is dealing him, and there is a lot. I loved all the characters and the various opinions each had of living in this small town...some could not wait to get away while Arthur knew from early on that he embraced all that a small town has to offer.
I found it to be an incredibly poignant novel and highly encourage you read it...bring tissues!
I loved Arthur Truluv and was so excited to get this advanced copy. I read this in a day and wanted it to not end.
Parts heart wrenching, parts matter of fact Arthur. It is the hope for love that everyone needs in life. There are so many kinds of love if we just look for them and be kind to others.
This book is for readers who love a gentle plot to wind around knowing a hard time is coming. Arthur teaches us how to be a friend and a witness to hard times.
Thank you Random House and Net Galley for making this book available to me. I received a link with the following message from Elami Glee, a Random House marketing representative:
“I'm so glad you enjoyed Oh William! by Elizabeth Strout. Because of this, I thought you might be interested in reading EARTH'S THE RIGHT PLACE FOR LOVE by Elizabeth Berg.” Ms. Glee was not wrong. Indeed I did enjoy Earth’s the Right Place . . .
To some it might seem a more simple or slow-moving account of a man’s life in small-town America. To me it was so much more. Arthur Moses grew up in that town, struggled with trouble, but found love and contentment right where he lived. Never thinking he wanted to move to the city or leave for more excitement, he was satisfied just where he lived. He took many life lessons from his brother Frank and those around him. Lessons that served him well throughout his life.
This book was touchingly evocative of what seemed to be complex emotions and situations that appeared to have difficult solutions. The key, Arthur learned, was there where he lived. That love isn’t simple or set on a straight path. He parent’s relationship showed Arthur that quite clearly. So too, some of his neighbors and Frank’s.
This is definitely a book not to be missed. I read most of it in one afternoon. Thank you again Random House.
It’s been awhile since Elizabeth Berg’s last fiction book but it was certainly worth the wait! Her characters are so loveable and she makes the reader feel like they’re a part of the story. This is a love story that will leave you smiling until the end.
I wanted to enjoy this one but felt the overall mystery, plot and characters hard to relate to. I can totally see the potential here though, I might just not be the target audience.
Your favorite characters are back in this book. I eagerly await each of Elizabeth's books and always wondered about Arthur Moses' backstory. This is the story of Arthur, a shy and awkward child and the most sought after girl in his class, Nola McCollum. They become fast friends, but Nola is more interested in Arthur's brother , Frank. But a in all families, tragedy strikes and Arthur must face grief and loss and how to move on. These characters are written with warmth and humor and you feel like you know them.. A true testament to Elizabeth's talent. Filled with kindness and love this is must read.
Well. I'm always sad when I arrive at the end of an Elizabeth Berg story and Earth's the Right Place For Love was no exception.
A sweet story set in simpler days. I have to say I did see the "night of darkness" coming and was preparing myself, and it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. Ms. Berg handled the difficult story lines in such a way that I wasn't bawling. I'm so happy too, that she was able to give some characters redemption. A wonderful escape in todays world, and a reminder that slow and steady wins the race, people can change, and tragedies happen and life goes in (and the person's spirit is always with you).
11/10.
Thank you so much to Ms. Berg for continuing to share her talent with us. And thank you to the Publisher and Negalley for granting me the honor of reading Earth's the Right Place for Love.
