What made me interested in picking this up was the combination of the different mythological characters being brought together, almost like a demigod/godling avengers team which is an interesting concept.
However, part of what let me down was the pacing, as this book was moving at parts, too fast to the point where it felt like there were missing scenes. This caused some confusion, in terms of plot which affected the character building.

Okay the one thing I always struggle to recommend customers is graphic novels for kids! Outside of Percy Jackson and Artemis Fowl’s graphic novel adaptions, I’m a bit short of ideas but this seemed like a perfect title to recommend AND exactly my kind of thing!

I loved the art style, it’s simple, colourful and clean and nice to look at with some fun character designs!

I’m a huge mythology fan so of course I was excited to dive into this and I loved seeing which character was which God and what their powers were. I breezed through reading this, I was perhaps not as engaged as I could have been as there wasn’t as much depth as I would have liked or development but it was enjoyable enough and will certainly be a solid recommendation for young fans of Percy Jackson!

This wasn't bad, but it could've been better. The story, though nothing new really, had potential: a group of ancient gods and goddesses reborn as teens work together to protect the world from Evil with a capital "E." The various pantheons and cultures provide lots of interesting possibilities, but the pace felt too swift to explore that much. The story needed more pages, more room to breathe. The fights could've used more pizazz too, they were resolved too easily, and I never felt uncertain about the results, y'know? Still, this does have promise, and I think this series can pick up if Jackson slows the pace and explores the characters more.

Not too bad an attempt to set up a franchise of comics for the tweenage audience. Copious godlike beings from across the world's mythology have to unite with other, well, godlike beings from across the world's you-know-what, to defeat godlike… You get the drift. I found it a bit clumsy in just thrusting us from one place to another, with no gentle introduction to any of the characters or their powers, meaning this became a bit of a mishmash. It did settle down into a straight goodies-vs-baddies fight story, but not one of much distinction. There's backstory here that's hinted at, and of course sequels are planned, but the very basic art and storytelling won't impel many to rush back for more.

Feels like it's trying to be the next big property. It's about the Gods of old having returned as teenagers. Their nemesises have also returned. It's a a solid, light read.

Thank you Netgalley for letting me read and review this graphic novel. Some of the characters are interesting, and I want to see what happens to them in the next book. The story was a little basic, but had a few interesting things added in. So overall I enjoyed the storyline and dialogue. I hope the author comes out with more graphic novels. The art is beautiful!

This had so much going for it but in the end it had some faults that made it hard to follow. The art was stunning, the idea behind the story was great but the writing was really disjointed. I kept feeling like there was a prequel I missed that would explain everything, but there isn't. There was no real explanation for the godlings, for their mission, or their powers, There just needed to be more world building at the beginning and more of a focus on the characters and their interactions with each other.

This book was colourful call had a really fun concept, and the progression was dead on. I would read more of the series and more of this authors backlog. I thought that the characters were very intriguing and pulled you into the story didn’t feel bumpy or starting stopping had very the floor and I will do more work like this.

This was such an interesting coming together of gods from different cultures. I really loved seeing a modern version of these beloved characters and how they worked together. I loved the diversity and the story, and I can't wait for more!

This was a fun, very fast, read. I’d love to see some more character development, as everyone felt pretty one dimensional, and I’m hoping there will be more installments to this story. I liked the art style.

The Godlings is a delightful new take, turning gods and goddesses into superheroes. The story follows a rag tag team of six gods and goddesses from Greek, Roman, Norse, Mayan, Egyptian, Babylonian, and Ethiopian mythology as they seek to battle against an ancient evil that derived from Mesopotamia. Great for fans of Rick Riordan novels and graphic novel depictions, as well as Marvel/DC comic reads. I found the story to be enjoyable and plan on advising for purchase.

I was drawn in by the art and premise (the kids who frequent our library are ever-hungry for mythology retellings a la Percy Jackson), but this one was a pretty solid letdown. The first third of the book is so rushed, disjointed, and flimsily developed that I really couldn't get past it to see if things improved as the story continued. It's a bummer, since the art is definitely conventionally appealing and the premise sounded like fun.

Can't recommend this one in good faith, but much appreciated to NetGalley for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Reincarnations of gods from all different myths join forces which is great for all us mythology lovers. I liked the artwork but the story was a bit disjointed. I wasn't sure what was supposed to be happening for most of the book but I think it was basically an introduction to the characters and story to come.

Thank you to the Magnetic Force LLC Publishing and NetGalley for the advanced electronic review copy of this awesome book! Oh my goodness! I absolutely loved it! Reincarnated gods and goddesses from different mythologies (Egyptian, Mayan, Greek/Roman, Japanese, Babylonian, Norse, Mesopotamian) are reborn to save the world. Loved the fast-paced storyline, adored the gorgeously detailed and colored illustrations l, and absolutely cannot wait for the next volume! Anyone who enjoys mythology or anything written or published by Rick Riordan would definitely enjoy this book. Looking forward to sharing this fantastic book with my students.

This is a brilliant and fun fantasy graphic novel about the reincarnation of old gods. It includes famous characters such as Sphinx, Roman goddess of the hunt, Mayan god of rain, Egyptian god of the sun, Babylonian goddess of destruction, Greek god of merriment and trickery, Ethiopian goddess of retribution, Brokkr Norse blacksmith to the gods. These are all recruited by the Order of Horus to fight famous creatures including the Kraken and the Rat King but their ultimate goal is to defeat the Mesopotamian queen of the underworld Irkalla and rescue professor Tamiru.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel. The plot was so fun, the characters were a diverse group with such interesting history and abilities and the graphics were amazing. I loved the illustration style and the character design. I don’t think this is a series but I would love to see more from these characters. It’s left kind of open ended teasing the possibility of a sequel and I would love to see that happen.

I think anyone who enjoys books such as Percy Jackson would adore this graphic novel. Anyone interested in gods, goddesses, demigods, marvel’s eternals, etc. would definitely thoroughly enjoy this book.

Representation - POC (Chaac; Ra; Irkalla; Sphinx); Black (Nemesis; Professor Tamiru); Japanese (Allira); Hijabi (Sphinx)

TW/CW - Abduction; Death of a loved one; Demons; Fire/Fire Injury; Manipulation; Violence

Though simplistic in its story and dialogue I found this read not bad at all. This story pulls from more than one mythos. Which makes it unique in its delivery but also slightly confusing trying to keep up with the different heroes and their abilities.

The pacing was off trying to keep up with everything happening. However, for a graphic novel it almost works.

It was a nice quick read that I think would be enjoyed by kids or by another person who has little to no knowledge on mythology.

Thank you to NetGalley for this arc.

Hmm… alright, how to describe this book? Someone said it’s Percy Jackson meets Teen Titans and I think it’s actually the best description of this comic. I gave myself few weeks to organise my thoughts on this but it kind of backfired. I realised I neither enjoyed nor found this book boring but it was just… too simple. The art is good and the dialogues.. well, I actually don’t remember any of them which speaks volumes.

My main issue is with the Godlings themselves. They’re supposed to be gods reincarnated or something similar but they all felt flat and uninteresting. I didn’t really care about them. I think due to my love for mythologies from all over the world my first reaction was very positive and enthusiastic but with time I realised that although the idea was great, the execution was pretty meh.

Yeah, I think that’s a perfect word to describe ‘Godlings and the gates of chaos’:

MEH

Thanks NetGalley and Magnetic Force for a copy of the eARC in exchange for an honest review!

A nice graphic novel but I wasn't particularly impressed. Let’s say it’s neither memorable nor horrible
The story unites a group of reincarnated gods from different civilizations who are tasked with protecting humanity from evil forces.
This plot has already been seen and reviewed but the thing I found most interesting is, in fact, the mixing of the gods of different cultures (Greek, Romans, Vikings, etc.).
The drawings are very linear and colorful, they remind me a lot of cartoons.

In conclusion, this graphic novel is without infamy and without praise.

Thank you to the publisher for supplying a review copy of the book. From the get go, I know I'm not the target audience, so I found the dialogue and storytelling simplistic and very much what I'd think of with a Saturday morning cartoon. It's not necessarily a bad thing, I was just hoping for a bit more depth than the book gave me. The art tells the story well and it was easy to follow, my only real criticism is with the character designs. They're gods but they didn't look or feel like gods, I think Luke could've really pushed the character designs to a new and exciting level, but they are just watered down Wicked+Divine designs.

Overall, I found the book to be middle of the road, with nothing standing out. If I was 7-12, I may not get as much enjoyment out of it as the author intended.
