Nice no-frill yoga book for beginners like me. I liked the build-your-own-routine approach and the hints and (health) caveats accompanying each pose; also, I found the illustrations pretty helpful in that they were kept deliberately simple and matter-of-fact -- no glamour shots of professional models about half the age of the intended audience.
To me, the actual written descriptions felt a bit weird at times: "Spread your shoulder blades away from your spine and down towards your hips", um, what?! Maybe I'm a freak (and certainly not the most physically flexible person on the planet), but my shoulder blades refuse to move far from my upper back, much less all the way down to my hips.
Still, I found this book quite helpful. Now all I need is some self-discipline and the will to make time for some exercise every morning... but that's another story.
My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Fantastic yoga resource! Much better than some other online or book guides, really goes into a lot of the basics especially for those that are new. I will be referring to this book regularly!
I suffered a very bad stroke several years ago, resulting in the reduced use of my left leg. As well as nerve pain, spasms, and cramping in that leg. I have tried many different methods to reduce the effects; medication, massage, botox injections, etc. I had friends that recommended yoga to me, but I was always resistant to trying it. Fear of falling, looking foolish, silly "man-pride", etc.
I requested this book from NetGalley on a whim, thinking that I would give it a look and then go on with my life. I found the book to be a real life-changer! Easily understood methods, that I could try at home on my own without embarrassing myself in public. I'm very pleased to report, that after a couple of months of trying yoga, my symptoms have lessened!
I guess my takeaway is to not be ashamed to try yoga, it might help you also. And this book is a great first step!
As someone who is diagnosed with fibromyalgia, I must say that this book is so helpful to me. Normally, I have difficulty with learning new movements and exercises, but this was actually easy for me to use. I did the stretching with my daughter. I the explanations are easy, it provides step by step instructions, and it shows the correct positioning. It is also helpful to know the purpose behind each move and the health benefits, including improved circulation. I know I need to get into the habit of doing it daily, but this book has been helpful with relieving some of my pain.
This book is perfect for beginners looking to reduce pain and increase flexibility. Each pose is explained in an easy to understand way. The pictures are simple and reflect a range of body styles. Chapter five puts the poses together in sequences that will benefit different issues. I highly recommend this to beginners looking to start yoga or for people who are wanting to start working out, want to relieve pain or increase flexibility.
A very nice set of information, sequences, and more. Probably best for beginners, but others may also benefit. Recommended.
Thanks very much for the free review copy for review!!
Yoga for Flexibility is a helpful resource for learning basic yoga poses with easy-to-follow instructions. I appreciate the book includes precautions and benefits unique to each pose as well as images depicting the poses. The book did not place much emphasis on the importance of breath, which is essential in yoga. The book did not explain well the role and importance of counterposes when putting together a sequence.
For someone looking for a quick, easy-to-follow read about yoga, this book is a helpful resource.
Thank you Rockridge Press and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Great for every-body!
As a massage therapist, I am constantly working with my patients to try and reduce chronic pain while increasing mobility. There is a natural overlap between overwhelm and skepticism that prohibits most from going home and keeping up on any sort of regular homework activities. Instead, poor patterns return bringing tension and often times a sense of defeat.
This is exactly the sort of reference material I like to keep on hand. All of the exercises are clearly depicted with straightforward instruction for frequency, duration, and how long before you can expect to see your desired results. These SMART measurements make accountability far easier, plus, the book sticks to 40 key yoga poses. This may sound like a lot but considering we don't even realize we've encountered half in our day-to-day lives; any memorization is minimal at best.
Following intuitive movement patterns, Adriana Lee really takes the mysticism out of flexibility. As a bonus- the images are repeated in the chapters that have stretching routines so there is no tedious flipping back-and-forth to find the poses you are looking for.
Simple, straight-forward, no-nonsense, this is a book I can foresee recommending a great deal in the future!

Yoga for Flexibility: Poses and Practices for Improving Full-Body Mobility Over Time is the perfect guide for beginners or anyone getting back into yoga. The drawings for the poses were much better than photographs and easier to follow and see the detail. Lots of helpful information and program outlines. A great beginner book and anyone with health issues..
Yoga for Flexibility is a concise but rich guide to a very practical benefit of yoga. This is precisely the book I have wanted to recommend to the reluctant and avoidant. It is great to finally have found a book to fit this important niche.
This book is so wonderful for someone like me with Stiff Person Syndrome. I really am finding it useful. I am already feeling a difference,
The way this book is broken out into sections focused on poses for certain ailments or benefits is really helpful! Another of my favorite aspects is that the poses have the westernized names as well as the I guess original names. Many yoga video instructors will use one or the other, and I like having both on hand.
The instructions and illustrations are easy to understand, and the book overall is arranged in a useful way for reading some parts straight through, and then jumping around as needed for reference when actually wanting to perform stretches. This is a very handy tool.
Really great yoga manual for beginners or those looking to get back into yoga. Very helpful outlines of programs for concerns, and how to for, good habits.
I liked the illustrations vs a photo for the poses. It’s easier on the eyes and definitely helped my understanding. The author seemed mindful of obstructions for beginners and those of us with zero flexibility. Because of this the book reads easily and not haughty or a boot camp type instructional guide.
I’m hoping these programs help my flexibility. I would rather practice at home than in a group so these types of guides work great for my mindset.
Great book for beginners, students, and teacher reference book to have on the shelf. The layout and path the author takes in this book is such a great way to allow anyone to benefit from yoga and the knowledge the book holds.
Adriana’s thorough understanding of the practices of yoga as well as her peaceful presence felt in her online classes comes through in every aspect of Yoga for Flexibility. This book is great for beginner and experienced yogis. Her cues are easy to follow and continue through the entire pose. The book begins with single poses, moves through yoga for specific purposes, to a variety of Yoga flows and instructions for creating your own yoga practice.
The illustrations are high contrast (black silhouettes on a white background) and simple to follow.
I found this book informative and easy to read. I will refer to it often.
Thank you Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book and give an honest review.
This a great book for beginners to yoga, with plans and really good explanations for poses it's a great guide to follow! I have been doing the Back Saver sequence for a couple of days now and it is wild how big of a difference it makes.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review!
5 Stars! This was a great book for my yoga newbie self. This book tells, and shows, everything you need to know, such as how long to hold the pose, props you could you for modifications, precautions to take, benefits for each pose, instructions and tips. The first chapter tells ‘How yoga improves flexibility’, chapter two is all about ‘Basic poses’ such as the cat-cow, and happy baby poses. Chapter three is ‘Poses for deeper stretching’, such as goddess pose and yogi squat. Chapter four is ‘Poses for pain relief’ with bridge pose and child’s pose. The fifth and final chapter is ‘The sequences’, such as wake-up flow and sitting rescue, which gives you poses to do together with pictures and instructions. Definitely a helpful and informative book, perfect for beginners.

This author fills her book with information on yoga. She is a good guide. Included in these page are forty poses and sixteen sequences with detailed directions. Reasons why flexibility is important are made clear.
The pose categories include warm ups, cooldowns, backbends, forward bends, twists and inversions. The sequences are designed for help with specific issues as, for example, lower back pain.
I am a person who found it difficult to fully understand how to do the poses. This may be no fault of the author. I do better with a person in real time demonstrating for me. However, if that is not true for you, this book may be very helpful indeed.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Callisto Media-Rockridge Press for this title. All opinions are my own.

I throughly enjoyed this yoga book. I am not very flexible, so there were definitely some difficult poses to follow. I liked that the book was divided into different difficulty chapters and then the last on different cycles. I attempted most of the easier poses and only a handful of the more challenging options. I will probably see if this comes out in ebook and purchase for my daughter who is very much into yoga.
Thank you to NetGalley, Callisto Media and Adriana Lee for allowing me to read and study this advanced copy.
I was attracted to this book because of the title and it delivers! As I get older, yoga was always something I aspired to do but have been intimidated by it because I am not very flexible. This book demystifies the poses and makes yoga accessible to all levels of ability and flexibility. The book start with a section on how to use the book followed by basic poses, deeper stretches, poses for pain relief, sequences and resources. I was particularly attracted to the poses for pain relief -- "tech neck rescue" and "happy hips and hamstrings" since I sit at a computer most of the day and those are my top areas of concern. In this book, the author gives step by step instructions for 40 poses and 10 sequences. The illustrations are sort of shadow figures as opposed to photos which make it a little difficult to fully see how to position the pose but does give you a general idea and the written instructions are clear. I have already started to do some of the poses to ease myself into becoming more flexible. Thank you to Netgalley and Callisto Media, Rockridge Press for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
