Yum! The recipes in this book are absolutely mouthwatering! It’s full of original, scrummy ideas, all of which are perfectly doable in your own home. I love that there are healthy twists on classics - things that we all love to eat, but made from scratch, using simple healthy ingredients. There’s something in here for everyone, from breakfast pancakes, to soups and sides, to homemade pies. Each recipe has clear step by step instructions, and there’s a photo for every single recipe in the book, so you know exactly what you’re aiming for. A lot of the recipes don’t need too many ingredients, are easily achievable in your own kitchen, and there’s a wide variety to suit all tastes. Would definitely recommend.

Thank you to Greenleaf Book Group and Netgalley for an eARC of this book to read and review

Honestly, this was pretty underwhelming for me. I thought the concept was really interesting, but basically none of the recipes here appealed to me. They all felt super basic, as if geared towards somebody who is only just getting into cooking. I already have go-to recipes for many of the meals here, and there was just something so... uninspired about what was chosen. It all felt pretty boring and bland, and the formatting didn't help much, as I didn't find it a particularly attractive or eye-catching book. I did appreciate that all of the recipes had photos, and if you're relatively new to cooking or aren't particularly adventurous when it comes to flavor combinations, then you might have more luck with this one than I did!

This cookbook by Lauren Allen has the best of her recipes from her website.

The recipes are well laid out and neatly labeled by Prep Time, Cook Time, Total Time, Yield & Ingredients.

Useful information on substitution and how to freeze is provided.

Each recipe has a photo of the dish. Some have a QR code for a video of the preparation.

Recipes cover breakfast, lunch, dinner and desserts.
Some international recipes are outlined as well.

This ARC looks like a good addition to anybody's kitchen.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC, in exchange for this honest review.

Flipping through a new cookbook is one of my favorite things, so I was excited to dive into this one. I was not familiar with Lauren Allen's blog before receiving this eARC, and therefore had no prior exposure to her recipes. The book seemed to have a good cross section of basics that a whole family could enjoy. It was well laid out and labeled, the instructions seemed clear, and the accompanying photos were nice. I usually try to test run at least one recipe before passing judgment on a cookbook, but unfortunately I'm in the middle of a kitchen renovation and that's just not possible right now.

What works well:
- good labels and sections make it easy to use
- clear, simple instructions suitable for beginning cooks
- a little bit of everything makes for a good all purpose cookbook

What didn't work for me:
- there's nothing really new or novel here, I've seen many versions of these recipes before
- in fact, most of these recipes seem to be available for free on the TBFS blog/website, with identical pictures to boot

And it's because of that last point that I can't recommend this cookbook. Unless you really love the blog and want a physical copy of everything, or want to gift it to someone, I can't see needing to buy it when this content is available for free. And for beginning cooks, I feel like there are better options for starter cookbooks (e.g. Americas Test Kitchen).

I think this is a great book for anyone who wants a nice variety of recipes and who might be new to cooking.

Pros:
I loved that each recipe had a picture with it. I can’t stand when only some recipes have pictures. It helps to visualize the recipe and give you an idea whether you’re interested in the recipe without reading through it.
All the recipes seemed pretty simple. Nothing gave the impression that there were unnecessary steps.
I liked all the tips and information provided with the recipes.
The variety was great. You could find some version of various cuisines in this book.

Cons:
None

I think this is a great book and I recommend that people try it out. There’s no doubt everyone can find at least one recipe that interests them.

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a nice recipe book!

I could see this being helpful for beginner cooks. There's a variety of recipes for different meals. I was hoping for more pictures of the finished foods, but there's not a ton. The book is in cups instead of grams which is helpful for us Americans. The book focuses on making food from ingredients and building meals from scratch. Some of the recipes require a bit of up-front prep, but are generally accessible and not super time intensive.

This is a wonderful cookbook for the beginning cook or the busy parent. It contains beautiful photos of the dishes.

Starting with breakfast recipes, recipes are mostly simple, with clear ingredient lists and instructions. The recipe selections also include muffins and breads, dinner, soups, salads and sides, and desserts. Interestingly, the dessert list not only includes cookies, pies, and cakes, but there are recipes for caramel popcorn, fudge, and specialty Rice Krispy treats.

The one recipe that I'm going to try first is the chicken gyros. They look simple and delicious.

I love Lauren's instagram account and I was very excited to read her first cookbook. There are 116 recipes in the book and include a little of everything. Every recipe has gorgeous photos, along with QR codes. I appreciate that Lauren included the prep time, cook time and serving size. I highly recommend this cookbook.

This is the cookbook I've been looking for! Every single recipe is practical, not overcomplicated, family friendly, uses easily accessible ingredients, etc. There are a lot of great staples in the book - so it'd be great for someone just setting out on their own and looking for a place to start cooking. I think I'd be willing to try every single recipe in this book, which, for a cookbook, is a great asset. Lovely simple photos and minimalist design. I'm especially excited for trying out the recipes for breakfast casserole, skinny banana bread, chicken gyros, one-pan fajitas, zuppa toscana, and pumpkin cookies! I loved this cookbook!

The use of the QR codes throughout the book was INGENIOUS! I can't believe I never thought of this being used in cook books. It's especially helpful for someone like me, as some of the codes link you to Lauren's Youtube channel and SHOWS you the process of cooking. This is super helpful for an absolute dunce in the kitchen like me!

Photography plays a huge part in how much I enjoy cookbooks and the photograph in this book was brilliant! Totally not underused, simple and beautiful. Same goes for the actual recipes, simple and easy to follow for my very simple cooking mind!

Congratulations on writing such a wonderful booK!

Photos look delicious! So many recipes! I am definitely trying quite a few and going to keep this book on my shelf. Appetizers, soups, main dishes, breads and desserts. It’s all here! You could make a whole 3 course meal just by flipping through these pages. I love it! Lauren adds in little tips and substitutes if needed. Index has recipes listed by ingredients. Definitely a great cookbook. Thank you, Lauren!

There were many recipes in this book that I would like to try. Too much of what I eat is prepackaged or frozen. I want to switch to cooking more from scratch and this cookbook looks like a great place to start my journey.
