After following Lauren Allen on Instagram for several year, I was excited to know she had a cookbook coming out. The recipes are easy to follow, use easily available ingredients and best of all are delicious. Just a few that I have tried are, Beef Stroganoff, Buttermilk Pancakes, Bran Muffins, Coconut Cake with Lemon Filling, Chili and several others. My husband has enjoyed each one. Great practical cookbook with lots of tips to make it easier to get the results you want.
My partner and I have tried a number of recipes from this book and absolutely love it!
I love the different range of cuisines, but my favourite section is desserts. The rolo cookies were delicious.
What a great cookbook! The recipes were not over the top or difficult which I find happens in some cookbooks- this book was full of recipes that people will actually make!
This is a wonderful basic cookbook for the beginner cook or for someone that is comfortable in the kitchen but wants a one stop cookbook for many of the basic recipes. I liked the options for different spins on in some of the recipes as well as links to additional recipes that you might be interested in.
This cookbook is a fabulous resource for anyone interested in home cooking! I loved the way the recipes were formatted to make it easy for anybody to follow. Also appreciated the QR codes that linked to a video for additional resource for learning the recipe!
Everything Tastes Better from Scratch and this cook book reminds the reader and cooks nearby that this is just what we need to get the family back around the table. I loved this book and recommend it to all who want to cook better food for themselves and their families. A treat for all. Applesauce Oat muffins, Taco Pie, Breakfast Casserole, yum!
Tastes Better From Scratch makes cooking from scratch approachable and easy. I love pulling recipes from this each week as I mean plan. The pancakes and healthy granola are both new staples in my house.
I love that there’s an emphasis on not needing a ton of extra time and foreign ingredients to make your food from scratch and eat healthily.
I have certain expectations for cookbooks these days that are different from prior decades. Tastes Better From Scratch cookbook checks off most of my boxes.
We don’t use cookbooks the same way we used to. Recipes from many authors are available to us online and we can watch videos showing them being prepared. But, cookbooks allow us to scan and evaluate many recipes to make plans and learn to prepare something new.
I look for certain aspects of cookbooks in order to find them valuable for my planning and cooking. Number one for me is photos. I just bypass so many recipes because I can’t visualize them. If the cookbook doesn’t have photos, forget it. Tastes Better from Scratch has gorgeous photos.
In addition to the photos, Tastes Better From Scratch has many other positives. The recipes use readily available ingredients. They are recipes that people eat, but often get for takeout or at restaurants because they aren’t foods your mom made and you haven’t had experience making them. The recipes are a variety of comforting, healthy, familiar, unfamiliar, yet all are accessible to the average or even beginner cook. Each recipe has multiple cooking options - stove top, oven, slow cooker, electric pressure cooker, etc. You can choose your method. And, storage information is provided. And, of course, given the title, the recipes are made from scratch with very few prepared ingredients such as broth.
If there was a negative, it would be the actual number of ingredients in a recipe. But, that is to be expected when cooking from scratch, and most are kitchen staples like oil, flour, salt, pepper, etc.
All in all, this is a good cookbook. I feel confident I could make anything contained within. I would feel comfortable giving this as a gift.
Lauren Allen is a popular blogger, and she has published a cookbook using recipes from her excellent website, Tastes Better From Scratch Cookbook: Easy Recipes for Everyday Life. Just like her website, this cookbook is excellent, and includes dozens of recipes that real people will want to actually make. She is right, when she makes the point that food made from scratch is better, and when the emphasis is on the fact that most of these recipes are easy, it is even better.
The recipes are written in the traditional manner with the ingredients listed followed by step-by-step instructions to make it easy to follow for both beginning and advanced cooks. Most of the recipes have minimal ingredients that are easy to find, and are easy to put together.
The recipes, which include appetizers, breads, main dishes, salads, soups, and desserts, have flavors borrowed from several countries including Japan, China, Mexico, and the Middle East. Most of the recipes will appeal to most people because they are down-to-earth, and include some recipes that have been made by cooks everywhere for decades.
One thing that is good about this cookbook is that there is a beautiful, professional photograph of almost every recipe, which is absolutely necessary for a five-star cookbook which this is.
All told, you can’t go wrong with this cookbook. There are dozens of recipes that will appeal to almost everyone, and picky eaters will find things that even they will enjoy.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
Sending my apologies for not being able to provide a review. I am unable to offer a review for this book - I had sent it to my kindle to read and the file did not download properly. Unfortunately the book has been archived and I'm unable to re-send it.
I enjoyed this cookbook and I’m looking forward to cooking some of the recipes.
I enjoyed goi g through the pages finding great recipes to cook for my family.
Beautiful cookbook filled with tons of easy to follow family friendly recipes. Loved the way the recipes are arranged by meal. Love the QR code that accompanies every recipe that leads to a how-to video for that recipe. Also every recipe includes how long it takes to make and how many people it feeds. Love the freezer instructions that are with almost every recipe.
The recipes for buttermilk pancakes, homemade syrup, baked ziti, and so many others look just amazing. The top 3 recipes I want to try are the green chili chicken enchiladas, Navajo tacos, and classic lasagna. But the dessert recipes also look delicious.
I think this cookbook will appeal to busy families and everyone who likes classic family friendly comfort food type recipes. I think this is definitely worth buying a copy of.
Loved the wholesome ingredients and accessible recipes - I know most of these will become new favorites for our dinner table!
Photos were inviting and recipes were accessible. Lauren's website is an easy stop for meal preppers making this an easy addition to the library for patrons to check out.
The photography in this cookbook is beautiful and the recipes all sound fantastic. I definitely saw a lot of them that I plan on using with my family. I will say that the formatting of the eARC is not great and I really hope that was taken care of for the ebook format of this book before publication. There are places where it feels almost unreadable.
So many of the cookbooks published today are written by bloggers who often include recipes that were previously published online. This doesn't seem to be the case with Lauren Allen's debut. As a mother with 4 young children, Ms. Allen has compiled a number of quick, easy to prepare family meals that even the pickiest eaters will enjoy! There is certainly a wide variety of dishes in the cookbook. I tried several and my family loved almost all of them, but they especially loved the dessert recipes. I would recommend this cookbook to any beginner cook or the more experienced cook looking to have a good collection of recipes for the family.
I love to cook and while I'm not good at it, I do enjoy receiving cookbooks and trying my best to replicate the flavors and looks from my spending Sundays at my grandparents house. Tastes Better From Scratch definitely brought back mornings from my childhood as well as new memories to share with my family.
I made 3-4 different recipes; they where easy to make and the instructions where on point as well to what they gave me. I tried the Pad Thai, one of my favorite meals; Taco Pie, a familiar but new twist recipes; One-Pan Fajitas, one of those meals that are delicious but time consuming.
Recommend for everday meal ideas! This book has many delicious and interesting recipes. The photography is beautiful! Great for people who love to cook and need new ideas! Thank you for the ARC.
This cookbook was filled with some really great recipes! Most weren't too complicated, despite being from scratch, and I loved the way they were written. I would definitely buy this for my family or friends!
Thanks to NetGalley and GreenLeaf Publishing for the early copy of this one!
