I saw this on NetGalley as a “Read Now” option and knew I needed it. I’ve followed this blog for years! She has some of my favorite recipes.
Her cookbook is just as good! Here are a few things I love;
Ingredients I typically already have or regularly buy
Time frame (prep and cook times) are listed
Recipes my family will eat! There isn’t anything in there that if I served it my kids would ask what in the world we were eating 🤣
From scratch. I love eating food from scratch but don’t always love the time. She has quicker recipes and some more labor intensive.
There are only 3-4 recipes I saw that I instantly thought, “Oh I’d never make that.” 🙌
So I’ve learned I’m terrible at food pictures 🤦♀️ Just know that I’ve made the Teriyaki Bowls and Pumpkin Bread (both winners) and have Butter Chicken and Jambalaya up next. My family is so grateful to get real cooked food again!
Thank you to NetGalley and Greenleaf Book Group for the gifted copy! I will be buying the physical copy to be able to add my recipe notes, I love it! 🍽
The book is out now, enjoy!
QOTD
I liked that this book had a variety of recipes. I didnt feel it was truly a from scratch cookbook because there were instances where canned goods were utilized and that's a but of the cheat. I still enjoyed the recioes on the book and would make a lot of them.
This cookbook has some very good recipes using ingredients one would normally have in the kitchen. It is well-laid out and the recipes are easy to follow.
This cookbook is just excellent! The recipes are easy to follow and every single one looks SOOO mouthwatering good! This was very well done!
My problem isn't with the recipes, but with the Kindle format. The pictures weren't aligned, the content was unreadable on some pages, sometimes even written on top of the pictures.
As for the recipes, they weren't bad, but nothing you can't look up for free on the internet. I'm not sure who the target audience would be. College kids that have never cooked from scratch? A newlywed looking to cook for a spouse? Or someone looking to cook at home for the first time?
The pictures and the feel of the family written about were lovely.
As someone who does actually cook from scratch every day, I appreciate the recipes but didn't find anything new. It is probably meant for a different kind of cook then myself.
Best of luck to the author and her family.
Approachable, easy to follow recipes that should have a spot in every kitchen! From overnight oats, to easy bread, I can't wait to try these recipes.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!
This book should be in everyone's kitchen! This is a wonderful cookbook with practical healthy recipes, tips from the author and substitutes or additions to make these recipes your own (or to use whatever you have on hand). I liked the QR codes to use for videos of the recipes - bringing the cookbook into the current times.
The author included recommendations to make the recipes ahead and how to freeze them. In addition. for soups and stews she added alternate cooking methods.
There were a few things in the book which I hope will be corrected when the final version comes out.
Healthy applesauce oat muffins ingredients- 4 tbsp butter (%cup)
Overnight oats 2 tablespoons applesauce +
Homemade white bread re flour(see note, right) there was no note
Classic homemade chili 1(14%-ounce can)
I do wish that it would be published in paper though as I find it much easier to navigate in the kitchen and I thought that the eversion was a little confusing.
Thank you NetGalley an Greenleaf Book Group for providing me with an ARC of this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily and will post on Goodreads, Amazon and B&N(without the notes for corrections)
Really enjoyed this authors take on specific recipes and the ingredients used - I’ll be adding some of these into my weekly/monthly rotation
This book is perfect on my tablet. Love the easiness this cookbook seems to bring. The pancakes were delicious. We have a few more recipes lined up in the coming weeks.
Wish it had a table of contents digitally I could click to get to recipes.
I really enjoyed this cookbook. The meals were fresh and approachable. Often cookbooks have too many rare ingredients and this one was primarily composed of things I could find in my pantry today and foods that my entire family would eat if not already in our rotation. I consider myself to be a fairly advanced home cook as cooking and baking are top hobbies and it is my creative outlet. This gave me some new ideas to tinker with and I could easily see myself recommending this to friends and family who don't spend as much time in the kitchen.
Lauren Allen has written a great cookbook that you will love whether you're new to the kitchen or an experienced cook.. The recipes are very do-able and easy to understand, and she includes handy tips on everything from stocking your pantry to dealing with a picky eater. The photos are gorgeous. And there are so many great dishes. I especially loved the teriyaki pasta salad and the chocolate cream pie. This is going to be a very much used addition to my cookbook collection.

There are a lot of really good sounding recipes in here, from very basic to medium types of food. I really like that she has some different instructions, some recipes have instant pot directions as well as regular instructions and as an instant pot lover I love that. I have several recipes tagged to make, her butter chicken one sounds really good and easier than some of the other recipes I have come across and haven’t made. I think that several of them would be good starting points for me, with me making my own changes to meet my families tastes better, the pictures are nice too, made me hungry. I plan on making a few of these today in fact. Even though some of the recipes are obvious, as in better to be made by scratch the title tells you that so those that complain about it being obvious that they are better by scratch should have expected that. I am enjoying her recipes, have them on my iPad for easy use in the kitchen.
YUMMMMM!
This cookbooks is full of delicious looking recipes and the best part is they look simple to make! With limited time as a busy mom, I appreciate easy, family-friendly food. There are pictures of each dish, which I greatly appreciate. I made the Rolo cookies this weekend for a few parties and they were a hit!
Logistics:
-There’s helpful make ahead and freezing tips
-116 recipes; breakfast, muffins/breads, dinner, soup, sides/salads, and dessert
-There are photos of each dish
-QR codes that link to a video that shows how to make the recipe
I can’t wait to try out more of these recipes!! I will definitely be buying a hard copy of this book.
Thank you to NetGalley + Tastes Better from Scratch, LLC for the ARC..
This book made me so hungry. It's not often I have a cookery book with so many things in that I want to make, usually the author is out to impress with fancy techniques and inaccessible ingredients, but not so here. This is a book I will use over and over again. Even my very good lucky husband was drooling !
I love the easy-to-follow recipes and fantastic photos in this cookbook! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced reader’s copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Some days the most challenging question is, what's for dinner?
So, I'm interested in everyday meal recipes. Nothing too strange or so bougie that it will send my kids running. I found many of these recipes timeless, approachable and easy to use. I love how everything in this cookbook is laid out, divided by meals, and the recipes are easy to follow. If you're struggling, it's nice this book offers video tutorials. But my absolute favorite feature is how each dish has a picture. They look delicious! I found the photos highly motivating, and they have inspired me to cook more.
I'd definitely recommend this book. I ordered myself a copy. I'd find it comparable to my Betty Crocker cookbook for usability. Thank you, NetGalley and Greenleaf Book, for an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with the ARC of this lovely book. This is a perfect book for busy folks who don’t have the time to spend many hours concocting a dish and especially for those just starting their cooking journey. The directions are easy to follow, ingredients are easy to find in a regular supermarket and the photos are enticing. Can’t wait to dig in !
My family and I loved the breakfast recipes! We are big on breakfast and every recipe was a hit, especially the german pancakes. I love how everything in this cookbook is easy to put together yet has helped me get out of meal planning rut when I need to switch it up.
Also, I appreciate the photos with the recipes. I love that I can see what I am making and how it should look. One of my peeves with cookbooks is when there is no picture...so I am happy this one has them! This would be a great housewarming gift!
Thank you Netgalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
This will quickly become a favourite in my house! I love that all the recipes are listed in the front table of contents with page numbers (small I know, but so annoying when not there!!). I also LOVE that each recipe includes a photo, I am a visual cook and I need to see something to get motivated to make it.
I love the compilation of recipes here. My husband is a “meat and potatoes” guy, and I am always struggling to find more American recipes so I don’t have to have meat and potatoes every night. We tried the French Dip and the Rolo Cookies so far and both were INHALED. This cookbook reminds me of the Joanna Gaines books - simple, timeless recipes that will stand the test of time.
Thank you so much for allowing me to review this cookbook!
I love cookbooks, and honestly cannot wait to make some of these recipes. Beautiful pictures of the food, and the recipes are written so easily.
