This has interesting characters but the plot can be a bit repetitive with each action sequence. Still, as long as you don't mind some similar scenes, the plot moves along nicely and is a great fantasty read!
Prince Khalstorm Belmont has been locked up for almost a decade for the murder of his betrothed, right after his father had killed his mother whilst under the influence of magic. He had found Celeste, one of the witches in a deputation visiting his home, over the victim's body before she vanished and he was left holding the bag (well, knife).
Now that very same witch has turned up in the dungeon and is vowing to free him. A ghostly apparition claims to be the sister of Celeste Khalstrom and offers to help Celeste in return for his freedom. The true perpetrator and the method of the murder are revealed throughout the book and I can say, without a doubt, that she definitely deserved a sticky end!
Khalstorm and Celeste's story is 3rd person, Dual POV, 2nd Chance romance, interspecies, lovers to enemies. forced proximity. Misplaced blame, black magic fuelled distrust, hot clinches without being OTT.
I enjoyed the overall story and really was fond of Celeste, but for the most of the book I wasn’t very fond of Prince Khalstrom. I understand he has a multitude of traumatic experiences but he was an outright jerk throughout a lot of the story. It was a nice break from what I usually read, just not my favorite if only for the MMC not being a character I could tolerate.
I really enjoyed the previous three books in this series and was thrilled to read this one.
Dragon shifter romance books are one of my favourite sub genre. This series adds a twist to that, making them so much more.Celeste and Khalstorm story was so much more that I had hoped. I loved it.
Dragon shifters, witches, magic in a sci fi setting.
Brilliant.
3.5/5.0
If one loves dragons, magic and romance, this book has it all! It is part of a series, and although it does stand alone, reading the previous books will add background that would enhance the depth of understanding within this installment.
From the first page opened, readers can't help but empathize with Prince Khalstorm, who is imprisoned for a murder he did not commit and in desperate need of proving his innocence, as well as exacting vengeance on the one he is sure is responsible. Unfortunately, that person is also the woman he was deeply loved. Celeste has also been imprisoned for that fateful day, but for much darker reasons than being accused by Khalstorm of that murder. As the plot unravels, the readers watch as a bitter dragon faces a devastated witch, then follows them as both come to terms with the betrayals that have shaped their relationship, then work to find a future. It is both heart-wrenching and page-turning!
The switches from past to present jump frequently, however. This is especially a problem because in the present, Khalstorm is horrifically horrible to Celeste, but when the narrative suddenly jumps to the past, they are deeply in love. It leaves a weirdly disjointed and schizophrenic feel to the story that is both disconcerting and frustrating.
There are also threads that are not explained or left hanging - such as the entire story surrounding Khalstorm having a fiance. That plot device plays strongly into the story yet we have absolutely no explanation about any of it!
Where the author really shines in this book, is in the action and love scenes. These are so perfectly drawn that one easily feels every emotion! So, the strengths do outweigh the weaknesses and the overall story is impossibly hard to put down!
3.75 stars—TAKEN BY THE DRAGON PRINCE is the fourth instalment in Kiersten Fay’s adult DRAGON LORDS erotic paranormal, fantasy, sci-fi series-a spin off from the author’s SHADOW QUEST series. This is twenty-nine year old, dragon Prince Khalstorm Belmont, and twenty-seven year old witch Celeste Songbird’s story line. TAKEN BY THE DRAGON PRINCE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous storyline is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Celeste and Khalstorm) using present day and memories from the past, TAKEN BY THE DRAGON PRINCE follows the second chance relationship between twenty-nine year old, dragon Prince Khalstorm Belmont, and twenty-seven year old witch Celeste Songbird. The witches and dragons have been at war for hundreds of years but ten years earlier dragon Prince Khalstorm Belmont fell in love with witch Celeste Songbird. Prince Khalstorm was betrothed to another dragon shifter but hours before they were to be married, Celeste was accused of killing his mate. Found with the murder weapon in his hand, Khalstorm was imprisoned, along with the woman he once loved. Fast forward to present day wherein a ghostly apparition has been visiting his cell, the spectre the sister of the woman he once loved. Hoping to assistance in releasing the witch, Khalstorm volunteers to save Celeste, only to discover the truth is not always what appears to be. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Celeste and Khalstorm, and the potential fall-out as the witches and dragons continue to battle for power and control, placing our couple in the direct line of fire.
The relationship between Khalstorm and Celeste is a second chance romance; a lovers to enemies to lovers relationship in which betrayal and discrimination are at the root of their conflict. Blaming one another for the death of Khalstorm’s bride to be, both would find themselves imprisoned without benefit of trial or truth. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to Celeste’s sister Xanthia, and their mother Elora, as well as the return of Jessie and Orin (SEDUCED BY THE DRAGON LORD 2) ,and Dragon warrior Rayu. The requisite evil has many faces.
TAKE BY THE DRAGON PRINCE is a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, magic and mayhem, discrimination and love. The premise is intriguing and engaging; the romance is captivating; the characters are energetic and broken.

I am a sucker for dragons and an alien one to boot! It may have started out as revenge but feelings are quickly turned. I have been enjoying this series so I am always happy to see a new book. Great characters and storyline. Hated to oh it it down!
4.5 stars
A fallen prince Khalstrom gets a chance to vengeance for a great betrayal against his family and clan. But what he doesn't count on is having a second chance in love. Celeste can't believe it when she is rescued from several years of her covens imprisonment but will she change one prison for another? Both are on the run, exhausted, tired, and trying to survive will the truth set them free? Another good book in the series, a book full of suspense and secrets makes another dragon fall for a witch.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for NetGalley
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided to me. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Kristen had the perfect balance of alpha men and strong-loving women. I have missed this world and am so happy to dive back in. Of course, I wouldn’t mind hearing about a dragon baby.... maybe a white dragon baby breathing ice...taking after their mother...hint hint.
Prince Khalstorm Belmont doesn’t trust witches. Especially since his fiancee was murdered by one. Ten years ago, he once had feelings for one, but he saw something that can never be unseen. Now that time has passed, he has gotten word that a witch is being held captive and wants nothing more than to get her out and exact his revenge.
Celeste Songbird has been held captive for the past 10 years. Punishment for not following her mother’s orders. She wants nothing more than to make sure the one she fell in love with 10 years ago is alive than not know. Well, guess who shows up and freees her from her prison! Though the person in front of her is not the boy she fell in love with, but a man on a mission.
I love the back-and-forth flow with this book. I not only got to see the present from both characters' points of view, but we also got to read their past to see where things started and ended. I really liked the fact I didn’t have to get out a notebook to keep up with what was going on. I was able to read and continue rolling and loved to see the couple slowly come back together. Celeste and Khalstorm had a lot of things happen to them out of their control and they each handled it as best as they could. I must admit I wish the story was a tad bit longer, but I am otherwise very happy and never want the dragons to end!
What a brilliant and stunning addition to the Dragon Lords series! Just when I didn't think this series could get any better, I am proven wrong by this wondrous book. The rich and vivid imagery of both the past and the present left me desperate for more. Nothing is more precious then a love that reaches soul deep and never leaves truly leaves you. We can only ever hope to experience that kind of love in our lifetime.
Ah, how to use all the adjectives to accurately describe how I feel about this book. So many words, feels, etc. I loved it and could not put the book down. Great internal and external conflicts. Old, loved characters and new ones introduced for both sides in the conflict. Great job carrying the overall story arch from book 1 all the way through to this book. Read it, you won’t regret it! Enjoy ❤️
I love the Dragon Lords series, as I do all of Kiersten Fay's work. Khalstorm is the dragon prince who thought that his love betrayed him. He captures her with the intent of exacting revenge and discovers that he still has feelings for her. This story is fast-paced, steamy and action-packed; it kept me turning pages right to the end. I'm looking forward to the next from this series!
I can understand the desire for vengeance that Khalstorm faced. Death of family, death of a future, death of a kingdom and death of freedom. Having the one who was instrumental in all of that at his mercy... but retribution is hard to inact when softer emotions come into play. Celeste's guilt almost overwhelms her. Realizing that other feelings start to emerge and then dominate makes for an emotional ride.
This is a standalone story in the same world as the rest of the stories, and I didn't see any mention of the previous book's characters, so I think it can truly be read on its own and in any order. I enjoyed the overall plot and I liked Celeste, but I have to admit, I wasn't a fan of Prince Khalstrom for much of the book. I understand he was traumatized by the death of his parents and his fiancee, but he refused to ever let her explain, even though he knew what she was like. And with his ability to tell whether she was lying, it seemed he could have saved himself a lot of trouble by letting her speak. I also didn't notice this with the previous book, but there were often changes in tense that made me have to reread sentences. This was an ARC, so perhaps it just needs further editing. But sometimes those sentences would pop out at me.
That said, this was kind of mindless fun and I thought it was worth reading. It was a nice break between much more serious books I've been reading. I already have the first book in this series, and I plan on reading that in between more serious reads next.
CW: Explicit sex and use of some terms that might be offensive to some
I received an advance review copy from NetGalley for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Taken by the Dragon Prince is another entertaining and exciting book in the Dragon Lords series by Kiersten Fay. Immersive and suspenseful, the story follows lovers turned enemies with haunted pasts and unclear futures.
I really like the world-building throughout the series. It’s such a unique world that includes dragon shifters, witches, and more. Khal and Celeste, the protagonists in this book, go on a long journey, and we see new areas of the world, which are all vivid and interesting. There’s also a lot of suspense and intense moments as these former lovers turned enemies flee from their other foes. The action and fight scenes are epic!!
I liked both main characters. Celeste and Khal have compelling and heartbreaking stories, and a connected and complicated past. Both of them have struggled and suffered tremendously since they last saw each other, and there is no trust between them. However, the chemistry and longing are still there. There are so many unresolved feelings between the two, but secrets, lies, and manipulations are huge obstacles for them to overcome. They have amazing chemistry, and I love their banter. Even when they hate each other, the spark between them is undeniable.
It’s an interesting dynamic, as Celeste is Khal’s prisoner, though he freed her from a previous imprisonment. Khal struggles greatly with his conflicting feelings toward Celeste. Khal’s entire life was shattered when his family was killed, and he was blamed for the murder of his fiancée. Khal knows Celeste was the true killer, and he wants vengeance. Yet, he still has a soft spot for her. Khal spends much of the story confused, and as he gains clarity about the past and what happened to his murdered father, mother, and fiancée, he has to reevaluate everything. Is Celeste really the killer he thinks she is?
Celeste also struggles with her feelings. Raised by an evil mother with vile intentions, Celeste became a pawn in her games. Imprisoned by her own people and used for their gain, Celeste’s life is in constant danger. Throughout the story, she is hunted by more than one enemy, including Khal. I enjoyed her story and hoped that she would find happiness away from her coven’s clutches. I also really wanted her to reconnect with her sister, as I was curious how that dynamic would play out.
I did fall out of the story a bit when it switched back and forth between 1st and 3rd person. I found myself having to reread a few parts for clarification. However, overall it is an entertaining read and a good addition to the series. Special thanks to NetGalley and the author for providing me with a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.
All Khalstrom has been thinking about since the day his parent and fiance were killed and he was thrown into the dungeons is revenge. When a witch comes to his jailers with a proposal that will both get him out of the dungeon, and take him right to the person who wrecked his life made even worse because they were in love, Khalstrom hopes he will not only get the revenge he's due but also get this person to tell the truth about what happened so he can finally be free.
But, once Khalstom sees Celeste (the person he thinks is responsible) all his feelings for her come rushing back, so his feelings are going back and forth between anger and love. He doesn't want to forgive he, but she isn't acting the way a cold-blooded murderer should act.
While this is a shorter story it doesn't feel that way. From the very beginning, there is a ton of action and great fight scenes between dragons and witches. A great second chance love story with sizzling chemistry, and a happy ending.
I can't wait to see what's in store next for our favorite dragons!
Khalstorm has lived in torment since the death of his parents and his fiance. His kingdom fell that same day, and he was hauled into prison after being found in a compromising position. Every since that day, he has only set his sights on revenge. Too bad his heart betrays him to the very person who turned his world upside down. Celeste never knew of love before she met Khalstorm. Inexperienced and naive, she obediently followed her mother in all things. Just as her world blossomed into something so requisite beyond measure, it was all ripped away. No time for figuring out what happened or offering condolences, she is forced into a world of neglect and torture. Can these two hurting souls ever hope to reconnect and heal the pain of their past, or will a deadly enemy destroy them both and leave them forever bereft and helpless?
Watching the passionate progress of Khalstorm and Celeste's relationship unfold left me breathless and in awe. What a pure, stunning, and marvelous love that grew between them. Their connection and bond felt so right and even predestined. I couldn't get over how natural and soul deep their bond became even in light of normally hostile relations between their groups of people. I saw that as a blessed sign of just how precious and powerful they were together. Without a doubt, they are a formidable pair whose love was viciously put to the test. Their enemies had much to fear indeed for love can transform any and every life it touches.
Kiersten Fay has blessed us with this incredible addition to her wonderful Dragon Lords series. My heart soared as high as a dragon and as light as a feather as I walked this devastatingly emotional and utterly fascinating journey. The brilliant characters captured my heart and left me wanting so much more. Now, I am desperate for the next addition to this extraordinary series as her stories just keep getting better and better!
I love dragon stories, this one was interesting and refreshing from my usual reads on dragons. I haven't read previous book in the series but now I am intrigued to do so. I enjoyed Prince Khalstorm's story, such an interesting character, definitely looking forward for the other characters and their stories.
Dragons and Witches oh My!!
First off I have to say I love this series. I never thought I would enjoy Sci-fi romance but there you go.
Khalstorm lost everything at the hands of a witch and he wants revenge.
Khalstorm was bombarded by a confounding combination of emotions at seeing Celeste’s slight form chained, caged, and filthy.
Celeste has been imprisoned for betraying her coven. Her kind heart wouldn’t let her harm another human being. She has no hope of ever escaping.
“One way or another I would have discovered which was the real you.
This fast paced short story is absolutely amazing. I hope there are many more to come. The Dragons are alpha hot and grumpy. There mates are strong and companionate. Everything I look for in a 5 Star read.
This is a hot well written book. I love a story where love wins against all odds and this is such a tale. Dragons and witches don't mix in the realm. Distrust is massive between them. Overcoming incredible odds a Dragon prince and a witch find their way to each other. I must say shifting is amazing and so convenient. Loved the ending.
