This just wasn’t for me. I think if I was invested in the series I would have been more into it. As I didn’t realize this was book 23 I didn’t get the relationships that have been built for the length of the series.

It was a good read just I felt for me, a little slow.

This book was not my jam and I can tell you it was a me problem and not a book/author problem. This was not my 1st book by Alexander McCall Smith but I will certainly give them another read!

I'm a huge fan of Alexander McCall Smith, but have never read a book from his No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series. I was lucky enough to receive the latest installment of the series, A Song of Comfortable Chairs, from Netgalley to review! I was worried about starting at the 23rd book in the series, but it was easy to jump right in. This book is filled with the warmth and humour I have come to love in all of Smith's books. I alternated between the audiobook and physical copy, and the audio narrator Lisette Lecat was excellent! Reading an Alexander McCall Smith series is like visiting old friends in a beautiful town every time you pick up a book, and I can't wait to visit Mma Ramotswe in Botswana again!

Thanks to Netgalley, Recorded Books, Penguin Random House Canada and Knopf Canada for the copies to review!

This was a solid read. It was a little slower moving than I would have liked, but there was enough to keep me intrigued. I would read another one in this series!

I have listened to all 23 books in the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series. I was hooked right away after listening to Lisette Lacat narrate. She brought the stories alive and I loved to hear the correct pronunciations of names and places. The last 2 titles in the series were read by different narrators and did not have the same appeal. I am so thrilled that Lisette is back!

I first discovered this charming series featuring Precious Ramotswe and her friends (who have become her family) when it was made into a television show some years ago starring Jill Scott. It was so well done and enchanting with its firm basis in positivity and kindness and the books absolutely embody this feeling. Perhaps because of that introduction, I did not enjoy the narration. It all sounded wrong in that voice (though I'd very much like to hear the narrator reading the Aunt Dimity series) and occasionally jarring. I don't think I will look for these in the audio format in future. The story itself is wonderful with Mma Ramotswe able to help new friends and old while Charlie steps up in a way even Mma Makutse can't argue with and Phuti is able to reap the benefit when Violet Sepotho's latest scheme puts the Double Comfort Furniture Store in its crosshairs.

I was allowed to access an ARC copy of this title in exchange for an honest review.

Bravo to Lisette Lecat who masterfully brought to audio life the next installment in the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series. This was my first opportunity to listen to the audio of McCall Smith's series and it was an absolute treat!

Mma Ramotswe heads up the first (and only) female detective agency in Botswana and is assisted by her capable assistant Mma Grace Makutsi. Each book in the series involves multiple cases and this novel tackles some issues that hit very close to home. Mma Ramotswe handles her work, marriage and parenting with wisdom and patience. My favorite case in this book was when Mma Makutsi's husband's business is faced with a ruthless competitor, and Mma Ramotswe uses all her cunning to craft a clever way of correcting the situation.

Like a Mrs. Piggle Wiggle for grownups, Mma Ramotswe's solutions are pure magic. She always knows the best way to outfox a criminal or to tease out the truth from wily suspects. I love the way Mma Ramotswe handles Grace's sharp edges with finesse. How I wish I had a Mma Ramotswe to consult when tricky relationships or situations arise. Readers will enjoy the pearls of wisdom that Mma Ramotswe weaves into every conversation. She is direct and intelligent but always kind and considerate. Readers will enjoy the satisfactory conclusion to all the threads within this novel. Make sure you read this in a comfortable chair for you won't want to put it down! Bravo Mr. McCall Smith! Please keep your lovely series going--each book offers many pleasant moments spent virtually in beautiful Botswana.

Disclaimer: I received a free digital copy of the audiobook for A Song of Comfortable Chairs through NetGalley for the purpose of review. No other compensation was received.

Welcome back to The #1 Ladies Detective Agency! Get ready for the latest on Botswana’s hardest working, cleverest, and kindest lady detectives. Mma Ramotswe is perplexed by Mma Makutsi being a little bossier than usual. Then we find out that Double Comfort Furniture Store is in trouble. Lastly, a childhood friend of Mma Makutsi’s is having some trouble with a cranky teenager. Precious and Grace to the rescue!!

These books always leave me feeling better about the world and wishing I could know these characters. The books are set in Botswana and it sounds AH-MAZ-ING. It’s definitely on my bucket list.

A mild and gentle new installment of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series. Fans of Alexander McCall Smith will find the leisurely reading they've come to expect, where most of the story takes place in thoughts, between moments of conversation. There's a charming kind of wit peeping through in various scenes and a general sense that almost everyone means well. Comfort reading, really.

The audiobook was well read, with subtle but distinct differences for the characters' voices. The pace of the reading was fairly slow, so even ramping up the play speed meant that it was still pretty clear and understandable.

Grace is a friend named patient who son is acting up and being very disrespectful to her boyfriend, foodie who owns the double comfort furniture store has a rich competitor under cutting his prices and not to mention cutting corners with those two problems to solve plus the inner office politics with Grace and Portia make for another great cozy mystery. I am not really big on cozy mysteries but love Alexander McCall Smith books and head big head big fan of his for long time and I wasn’t disappointed I just wish I would’ve read the Kindle book instead of the audio . It seemed the narrator wasn’t familiar with the characters in the reading sounded stilted. Not to say she didn’t have a pleasant voice I just didn’t get the vibe that she was all that familiar with the series. I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

Not for me.
This starts off soooo dryly, that I just couldn't finish it.
I ended up falling asleep more than 3 times while trying to read this.
Never a good sign.
I even tried witching from ebook to audio (the Lisette Lecat's voice was sooo soothing, I kinda want her to read me bedtime stories).
I decided to DNF it instead of forcing it.
Nothing inherently wrong with it, just not for me.
Did you read any of this series? Is there a more exciting one I should try?
Thanks to NetGalley, Penguin Random House Canada & RB Media for my DRC.

Alexander McCall Smith is back with his No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series. In book number 23, our favorite lady detectives are out to solve problems of dear friends. The book is like the title “A Song of Comfortable Chairs”. You want to curl up in the chair with a cup of tea. The narration was well done too. I highly recommend this book.

Thank you #NetGalley, #RBMedia, #TheSongofComfortableChairs,#AlexanderMcCallSmith and #LisetteLecat for the advance audiobook.

Thank you to RB Media and NetGalley for an ARC of this audiobook.

I have read and loved each and every No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency books and this book is no exception. Those of you who follow this series will love this next installment. If you have not read any of the books in this series, I would recommend starting at the beginning so that you will really get to know this wonderful group of people and the beautiful, peaceful setting. This series is not about any great mystery to solve and as a matter of fact, this book had no outside clients who came to the agency for help. It is really just about the lovable main cast of characters and how the "ladies" help to solve their everyday problems. I will continue to read each one of the books in this series and hope that Alexander McCall Smith continues the series for a long time.

This was an audiobook and read by the incomparable Lisette Lecat. Most of this series, I have listened to and she IS the voice of these characters. There was a book a couple of years ago with a different narrator and I just could not listen to it. I bought the book and read it and heard Ms. Lecat's voice in my head. She has an amazing gift of making each character's voice unique. I could sit right now and picture each main character's voice in my head. If you have never listened to one of the books in this series, I would highly recommend it so that you can truly appreciate the African names and places pronounced to perfection.

This is the first book of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency that I have read, and I enjoyed it. I have also now bought the dvd of the tv shows to watch, so I look forward to watching them.

In this book, which is number 23 in the series, Grace Makutsi and Mma Ramotswe have to work together to resolve some things. Grace's husband Phuti, is having problems in his office furniture work, where another company is trying to undercut his prices. As well as this, Grace's friend needs help with her teenage son. Will they be able to help them?

The narrator of the book was very good, and she had a pleasant voice, which suited the story perfectly. I enjoyed her accent and how polite she spoke.

I look forward to reading more of the books from this cosy mystery series.

Many thanks to the author, narrator, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

This cozy tale is the latest in the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series.

Mma Ramotswe and Grace Makutsi tackle the challenges of life and do some sleuthing with their usual mix of commonsense and kindness interspersed with an innate sense of fair play.

This ALC was an enjoyable, engaging listen with authentic voices.

3 1/2 stars. This series has a very distinctive feel to it. It seems to have a slower pace to it than most mysteries and often the cases are not murder. This is very much tied to the philosophy and the way of life Mma Makutsi, the owner of No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, feels is the heart of Botswana's culture. She does her best to be kind and bring a dose of common sense to problems.

As usual, there are several different cases that Mma Makutsi and her associates have on their plate. And, there are always some personal problems that complicate life as well. This time it is her associate that seems to be elevating her position at the cost of Grace's. In the end you know, she will do her best to be kind and bring a dose of common sense to problems and provide resolutions that make things right in the world.

This is a very comfortable read and always a joy to read how things are developing in Makutsi's life. It isn't your typical cozy but you'll be happy you have tried it. The narrator does a good job of bringing the characters to life.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.
