My family enjoyed this book greatly. I'd say the key points would be seeing and labeling the many tools used as a Beekeeper. We all took a slip of paper and wrote down what we didn't know before we read this book too (and we all had something to say)! I enjoy children's books that have a bit of something for everyone and this book meets that criteria. It's colorful, fun and very informative. I'd recommend this to friends and family.
I received this e-book free for a genuine review.
Cute easy to read book. Very informative. Pictures are pretty. I'm assuming it is a board book - so easily held by a young child.
Thanks to Netgalley and Clavis for a free digital copy.
A very educational but kid level book about the role of bees and the role of beekeepers. I found it fascinating and very rereadable.
This was an adorable introduction to beekeepers, bees and the importance of both to the environment and ecosystems. The illustrations were bold and vibrant and the information was presented in an easy-to-understand format. Would recommend to parents and toddlers interested in STEM related topics.
A slightly awkward book, as it tells us all about beekeepers – well, this fictionalised one, at least – but interrupts itself as it has too much to tell us about the bees. So we get how the bees work in the hive, how they move house when they get too crowded, and how the beekeeper may be needed with her skep. For a guide to careers for young children, this probably tells you all you need to know, but it is a bit too choppy in going from one subject to another, then back again. Three and a half stars.
There is much to learn about bees and being a beekeeper. For the parents that desire for their children to learn and be entertained at the same time, learning about bees fit the bill. So what is all the buzz about. We need bees to grow flowers and vegetables. And bees are so interesting. The job that they do and keeping the queen safe. The beekeeper helps the bees along. We can help bees too. Such a great book for children and parents to be engaged in the world they live in.
A special thank you to Clavis Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
My daughter and I found this book really interesting. We learned all about bees, and why they are important for us and our planet. We also learned all about what a beekeeper does, and how they look after the bees and collect honey. The images in the book are bright and colourful, and they will hold children's attention easily. We enjoyed finding out more about bees.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.
Thanks to NetGalley and Clavis Publishing, my kids and I had the opportunity to read Beekeepers and What They Do by Liesbet Slegers. All three of us enjoyed learning about bees with each flip of the page.
Let’s start with the cover. It was bright and colorful and gave us a clear understanding of what we were about to experience. The illustrations inside were equally fun and educational. I loved how there were diagrams and labels to help kids understand the beekeeping process and the tools beekeepers use.
The writing throughout was clear and easy to comprehend. The author takes us through what bees do, why they are essential to our food system, and how the beekeeper cares for the bees and harvests their honey. By the end of the book, you have a good understanding of the process.
Feedback I have-
The flow of the story could be slightly confusing and jumped around a bit. For instance, on page 6 we learned about preparing for extraction, but then on page 13, we come back to the extraction process and explain what the extractor does. I feel like having that information follow immediately would have helped round out the entire step-by-step process.
Overall, I’d say the illustrations put this one at a 5, but the flow of the book bumped it down slightly. We loved it and will be adding it to our collection.
Mom - 4
Twins - 5 (They won't stop buzzing through the house)

Thank you, NetGalley, for an e-ARC of Beekeepers and What They Do by Liesbet Slegers.
Beekeepers and What They Do is a non-fiction book for young readers. Written in picture book format, this book explains the role of a beekeeper. Beekeeping is becoming a popular hobby and this book will help children understand the hows and whys of keeping bees. As a beekeeper, I found this book to be accurate and easy to understand. This book is a great resource to have in our local library.
Let it be known – I am terrified of bees and everything that stings, and especially was as a child. However, this one is great for kids, because it shows them there are passions and careers and jobs out there that they may never have thought about. It also introduces them to all of the goods things that bees do and their job in nature, allowing them to understand that all creatures have a purpose and do good things, even if they may seem scary to us. This one is informative, short, sweet, and has bright illustrations that will have your kids running for honey.
My child loves to learn about different career paths and beekeeper is one we did not know a lot about. We read this book together and he was interested the entire time and so was I. I even learned new things about beekeeping that I had never heard gif before reading this book. The illustrations are bright and colorful which is perfect for keep young eyes interested.
These illustrations were so fun and even as a mom I learned a little something form this children's book! My kids are 4 and 5, so they were a little young for the wordiness of this book, but they really liked all the pictures. I found myself eventually summarizing the words more than reading the full thing to them. Though they still really learned something and enjoyed all the facts about bees and beekeepers!
4.2 Stars
This little non-fiction book is for kids aged 5 and up. It explains who beekeepers are and what they do throughout the year. The writing is simple enough for kids to understand (you can read it to them or make them read it themselves). There’s some repetition that helps kids memorize it better.
The font is of the right size and neatly placed to the side. The illustrations are vibrant, colorful, and done to resemble children’s drawings. The thick layering of watercolors with simple outlines makes the bees and the beekeepers adorable.
The book also emphasizes how bees are handled with care, and there’s enough honey left in the combs for bees to eat during winter. I love that the beekeeper is a woman.
To summarize, Beekeepers and What They Do is an educative and informative book with adorable illustrations kids will love. The information is just right to not overwhelm little ones.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and Clavis Publishing and am voluntarily leaving a review.
What a fun and informative read! I learnt a lot from this vibrant book about beekeepers and the little critters they care for. The illustrations are worthy of 5 stars and I adore how bright everything is. Kids will enjoy this quick and engaging book.
A perfect book to teach children about bee's in a fun way. The book covers what bee's do and how to take care of them. The illustrations are fun and informative. It is a nonfiction book but a very fun and colorful one that any child would love. Children will love learning about bee's and beekeeping in a fun way!
I find the book too cute! Education should be this fun! Information should be this entertaining!
Love the presentation and the way the art sequence fits the purpose.
Thank you, Clavis Publishing, for the advance reading copy.
This is a very cute educational book that teaches children about bees and their importance in our environment. It is also a good way to teach children to respect and not fear bees. The information is given in an understandable way ANF the illustrations are very cute.
This book was very informative - I lean towards categorizing it as a science non-fiction book rather than a picture book. Lots of text on each page so this is best for stronger readers or children who don't mind a slower-paced story. Beautiful illustrations with lots of diagrams and fun details.
Children will enjoy learning the 'buzz' about tthe beekeepers' job with this short but sweet explanation. There are cute and colorful illustrations and diagrams, which add helpful insight into the life and times of bees, as well as the beekeepers.
I believe this book would make a good, educational gift for birthdays, special events in a child's life or even for Christmas. Who knows, it could even spark interest in the child's life and turn a hobby into an eventual unique career.

I just love these books by Liesbet Slegers, because of how fun they are written and I am also totally smitten by her fun illustrations. So I had to request this one when I spotted it on Netgalley. Bees? A new Liesbet Slegers book? Yes please!
In this book we don't just find out about the beekeeper, oh no, we also find out about the bees she cares for. From what they do and how important they are to how their hives work and more. I really liked how it switched between teaching us about bees to teaching us what a beekeeper does. How she helps the hive and what tools she needs. And that even if bees are kind, if you get close to them they may sting so that is why you have to wear that suit (btw, I didn't know that the suit was white because bees are attracted to colour, I just thought white was the easiest colour of fabric to get). It was all very interesting to read and I learned quite a few new things about beekeeping. It always sounded like a fun profession, but now even more. Though I think I will stay away, bees are cute. From a distance. XD Plus, if I do get stung I get very big bumps. But I would definitely like to try my hand on making wax or getting the honey into jars and cleaning up the frames. That sounds pretty safe.
And of course the illustrations by Liesbet Slegers were tons of fun again! I love her style.
All in all, I would highly recommend this book to all. It is fun, I learned some new things, and it was cute.
