Great book!!! It would be beneficial for anyone struggling with self esteem and surviving this crazy world.
I LOVE that the author focused on action here. It could have been super simple for them to say, “just love yourself, it’s not that hard.” but I am so glad they didn’t!
The writing style was easy to understand, and very well-written. Good book to start off your self-love journey, in my opinion!
Self-Love in Action by Zoë Crook, MA is a practical and insightful guide to cultivating self-love and compassion. The author offers a wide range of strategies and exercises for improving self-esteem and developing a more positive self-image, all with the aim of leading a happier and more fulfilling life.
What sets this book apart is the author's emphasis on taking action. Crook encourages readers to actively engage in self-care practices, setting boundaries, and building healthy relationships, rather than simply thinking positively about themselves. This practical approach makes the book feel actionable and relevant to readers looking for real change.
The writing style is clear and accessible, making even the most complex concepts easy to understand. I particularly appreciated the personal anecdotes and stories throughout the book, which helped me to relate to the author's experiences and feel inspired to make positive changes in my own life.
That being said, there were times when the book felt a bit repetitive, and some of the exercises may not be feasible or applicable to everyone, depending on their individual circumstances.
Overall, Self-Love in Action is a valuable read for anyone seeking to improve their self-esteem and cultivate self-love. It's a well-written and practical guide that offers actionable strategies for developing a more positive self-image and building fulfilling relationships. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in personal growth and self-improvement.
Such a great read! I intend to use this for not only myself but for the clients that I work with! Highly recommend!
I really, really loved this book. I took my time reading through all the materials and so much struck me as incredibly meaningful. Naturally, some chapters were personally harder for me to read and so I took my time and waiting until I was ready to confront those feelings. I found a lot of wonderful insights that really moved me. I highly recommend giving this book a read!
Thank you so much for this ARC!
This is not a typical book that I would normally request from NetGalley, however, I am glad I did. I needed a little bit of introspection and this helped. Beautiful and easy to follow - enjoyed the examples.
personally I think self love is very important in everyone's life .We all want to be accepted to fit in and through that process we lose our selves. Through out this book I learnt a lot about self love and am slowly in the process of self rediscovery .Much appreciation to the author and Net galley
Self-Love in Action, written by Zoe Crook, is a wonderfully written, detailed “self-help” book that focuses on exactly what the title says- self-love. Having been in therapy for the majority of my life, I related to all of the book and found it to be a comprehensive review of all I have learned in therapy. The book solidified my knowledge of how aspects of self-love like self-compassion and self-discipline help people work through issues better and more easily. This book is so detailed that it even talks about aspects of our lives such as family, including the family we can create with people who are not related to us by blood. Self-Love in Action is a shorter book than some but it is jam-packed with incredible examples and how our past experiences shape how we love ourselves. I think the examples of the author’s clients were probably my favorite part of the book. Some of the information is a lot easier said than done, but when the author gave real-life examples, I could relate to different aspects of the stories that were shared. There is so much critical information in this book that I probably will read it more than once. This is one of the best self-hep books I have read in a long time. However, I will give it 4 out of 5 stars, because I did not learn too much new information. As I mentioned, it was more of a review for me. Thank you to Zoe Crook (the author), NetGalley and Zeitgeist Publishing (the publisher) for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. -Chelsea K. Reviewer
I really enjoyed this book. It was concise but had many great points and stories surrounding the different ways we can love ourselves. I especially enjoyed the friendships and relationships sections.
A huge thanks to Zeitgeist for my complimentary copy and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.
This book was relatable, relevant and an emotional rollercoaster .I loved that it was set in a conversational way and so relatable. Self-love in action is a healing, affirming book jam packed with examples that we all can to attest to This book is perfect for those struggling, those in need of healing, those in need of a hug, those working through healing and to the lonely. It must be required reading.
This is an excellent read, both for people new to the concept for self-love and for everyone else, who can use an occasional reminder. Chapters are concise, well-organized and full of practical and evidence-based ideas for how to offer yourself compassion and make your well-being a priority. I especially like the distinction made between toxic positivity and positive self-talk, complete with examples. It's so important to recognize the difference!
The tone is casual and conversational, so this goes down easy, like a conversation with a friend. It's short, sweet, and full of good ideas and anyone could benefit from picking it up!
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
This is a super important book for everyone to read. I would say this is more for beginners, but anyone can benefit from it. Being interested in the topic and naturally very good at self-care (probably too good), a lot of this was knowledge I already had. It’s always good to be reminded, though! It did feel like common sense at times. It is a super easy read, covering most of the major life topics. She discusses past influences, present Influences, provided real-life experiences, and gives you action plans to follow to put it all in motion. If you struggle with self-care, read this! Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
I liked the "time to practice" sections throughout this book as they gave the reader practical ways to apply the information in their own lives. I thought the writing was accessible and the tone was friendly. I also appreciated the emphasis on social factors and how these things can't be resolved with self-love. However, I don't think there is any new or ground-breaking information in this book. I think that I would recommend it for young people, someone who isn't in therapy and is looking to start their healing journey. This is base level information. Also, I did not see any sources for the advice being given and that made me feel a bit iffy about the content. Is it from evidence based modalities?
Self-Love in Action was a nice read written in an accessible tone.
Overall I didn’t feel I learned a ton of new information, but I appreciated having an intelligent and organized book to explore the topic further. I liked that this focused on the actions to implement self love in everyday life.
Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC of this book. I am pleasantly surprised by the detail and work put into creating this book.
This is a great beginner’s guide/ reminder to self-love for people who feel the need to practice more self-love. It teaches you to challenge your way of thinking and being in a loving and compassionate manner towards yourself.
The author did a great job of making you reevaluate yourself and the way you love yourself and her having had the questions that help guide your thinking into becoming the person you want to be.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I found this book to be relatable, relevant and easily readable – its conversational tone and simplistic structure makes it easy to grasp the messages and to revisit specific concepts when needed. The examples are numerous and timeless - meaning these are situations that most people may have experienced directly or indirectly or may encounter via life’s journeys. Each provides a holistic view (past/present) with solid, practical suggestions for healing and improvement – many were best practices I may have heard/read before - but sound advice and healthy recommendations nonetheless.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an opportunity to review.
I liked this and found several aspects quite enlightening. Lots of tidbits I'll remember and actionable items to work on in my own life.
I liked the way the parts and chapters were laid out, for example: past influences, present influences, self-love in action, etc. I found this well written and presented. The real-life examples/ stories were a nice touch to show that others could be going through something similar when you think you're alone.
Thank you to the publisher via Netgalley for this ARC.
“Loving yourself is like being wrapped in a warm blanket. It’s the feeling that even when things aren’t okay, you know you will be okay“
This was probably one of the best self-help books I’ve picked up in ahwile. The way the author explained things you were able to apply it to your own life. I absolutely loved the little “now you try it” parts after each story making the book interactive. A few of the quotes used in this book was amazing and I plan on keeping them for when I’m down. One of my favorites -“Go out and screw up. Don’t try to be perfect; just be an excellent example of being human.” I loved that real life therapy stories were applied making it even more relatable. Just all around very helpful book. Thank you Netgalley for letting me read this free for exchange for an honest review
This is a wonderful self help book that guides you in your journey
