A great little book for all candle lovers and understanding it on a deeper level. I LOVE how it's made books. Great for all ages.
This was a great companion book to candles and candle-making. There were so many good tips and tricks.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
What a cute little book! I actually learned a lot about candles. I am a big fan of using candles in my home to set the mood and ambiance, and have also used them for holidays and religious related events so it was interesting to read more about it. I’ve also recently taken a class on making candles and this was great supplemental information to that beginner level knowledge.
A great book for those that love all things hygge and candles!
The book was comfortingly laid out with great little breaks for quotes, and I loved the input for rituals and meditation. Not only making your home a little more comfy but also yourself!
The pictures on my copy were skewed and psychedelically pixelated. Unsure if it was the way I downloaded it or what. I also wish there were more scent combos or a cheat sheet for which scents work really well together.
This is a cute little book! I would recommend for a lover of witchy type things but also for those looking for a bit more hygge.
A great little book that covers the history of candles and candle making, plus the new waxes available like coconut wax, and their pros and cons.
Easy, fun read. Thank you Netgalley and Zeitgeist, Driven for the ARC!
I love a candle. There’s something so soothing about lighting a candle. This book gives so much information on candles. From their scent & color to the uses in religions. It even tells you how to make your own.
My favorite part was the quotes at the beginning of a new section.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced reader's copy of this new publication.
This book does cover the whole gamut of candle making and burning. The photographs are lackluster.
Nice book but not worthy of my coffee table or as a gift in my opinion.
Can imagine this book taking pride of place on the coffee table, or on a shelf as a focal piece - of course next to a luxurious glass jar candle (JM obviously!).
A great little book - detailing the history of candles, which waxes are used, and which ones are best used. The book goes into great detail regarding favorite scents for all areas, such as your work & living spaces. It also covers how candles are used in different religions.
Overall, a lovely little book covering everything you'd ever want to learn about candles and their uses.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC, in return of an unbiased, honest review.
Honestly, I was underwhelmed by this book. It felt more like an SEO project than anything. There's some useful information there, but for the most part it's a lot of common knowledge. If you're looking for examples on how to incorporate candles in your interior, you may prefer looking for visual examples on Pinterest. I don't know if the photo quality is going to be the same for the press release, but the sepia filter on everything makes it harder to imagine the colour compositions.
Excellent and easy to read book. I never knew there was so much to know about candles. Now I can buy or make them with new meaning.
Who knew so much could be said about candles? I was pleasantly surprised by the rich informative content (historical/religious background, evolving manufacturing techniques and materials, decor arrangement suggestions, hidden meanings of colors and scents, symbolisms, etc.), all complete with sleek illustrations and precious quotes from famous people.
It’s an easy, fast read (under 100 pages) with a sophisticated aesthetics and layout; it would also surely make a nice coffee table book. A great gift idea for all candle lovers, too!
The Little Book of Candles by Devon Fredericksen was lackluster and didn't illuminate the true beauty and magic of candles or candlelight.
There were no good photographs inside and it felt very elementary. It could have been so much more than it was. Basically line drawings inside and some nice quotes with a bit of information about candles. There was no information on waxes or suppliers of the best wax in making homemade candles or really the latest about candles.
There should be more text boxes. The one thing about the book that I liked was desired mood and scent to achieve that box. The colors were dull perhaps because it was a review copy. I was looking forward to reading the ''Psychology of Lighting' chapter and almost went past it with Review Copy so large over the font that was too small and not bold for a chapter heading.
So much to go back to the drawing board about this book imho.
The cover is so appealing. I want this book to display on my coffee table.
I love the quotes throughout the book.
I am a big candle user and never knew all that went into a candle and choosing one. This book was very informative but also interesting to read
This book would make a lovely gift for a candle lover, even if that person is you. It begins with lots of information on how to choose just the right types of candles. Following are sections on how candles can be used to set a mood or create a particular space in a room. There are also some mindfulness-like sections. For example, candles may be used in rituals (from birthdays to mourner’s candles and more) or self-care. Who would have thought that just a small candle could do so much?
The introduction notes that candles are used for relaxation and romance. They are also believed to symbolize the impermanence of life by some religions. In addition to information on the role of candles this title includes practical projects; for example, readers can learn how to make their own candles.
I sometimes light candles, especially in the autumn when the nights start to get longer. Now, I may use them even more!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Zeitgeist for this title. All opinions are my own.
