Do Let’s Have Another Drink, by Gareth Russell is an absolutely delightful book of anecdotes about Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. Drawing on letters, diaries and interviews readers are able to see a side of her personality that a typical biography never reveals. The incidents show humor, resolve, duty, private thoughts and a definite love of alcoholic beverages about a woman who never wanted to be in the public eye, but once there was very reluctant to ever become “invisible” again. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. Most highly recommend.

This is the second biography of the Queen Mother I have read and this one did not leave me yawning with such dry facts about her life. It did give points but it also showed the wit and humor she had. She led a wonderfully long life and the English people loved her, and reading this book you can certainly understand why.

Reading it this past week has been a bit sad with the death of her daughter the Queen, but I would quickly laugh at something she said in the book. I loved that even as a royal she was also very human.

An excellent book for any royal fan to read

Do Let's Have Another Drink!: The Dry Wit and Fizzy Life of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother by Gareth Russell is a wonderful nonfiction that commemorates the amazing Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mother of Queen Elizabeth II. I just loved this.

I have been a huge fan of Elizabeth Bowes- Lyon, aka Queen Elizabeth II’s mother, and Queen Consort of King George VI 1936 until his death in 1952. She lived to be 101, and this book commemorates and remembers her life and personality by this collection of stories, anecdotes, quotes, and remembrances. There are references and footnotes added to help give backdrop by the author as well. She was far more witty, sassy, hilarious, feisty, and courageous then most give her credit for.

I really enjoyed reading this and getting another peak into her fascinating and wonderful life.

Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced copy.

This is a charming book of anecdotes about Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, She seems to have been a remarkable woman who lived through so much change in her 100+ years: wars, social upheaval, the diminution of Empire, technology, outliving most of her friends and much of her family -- and somehow managed to (mostly) keep smiling through it all. These are vignettes and not a linear history, though the author does provide biographical footnotes and points to authoritative biographies of Elizabeth and those in her orbit. It's easy to see why she was so popular with the British public!
