✨ April Asher has done it again, and better than before! ✨

Not Your Exes Hexes follows the middle Maxwell triplet witch, Rose, and the oh-so-delicious repercussions of her one-night stand with the half-demon veterinarian, Damian. Asher continues to build upon the Supernatural Singles world she created in Not the Witch You Wed, and we get insight into the background of some of the characters introduced in book one. As much as I enjoyed Violet’s and Linc’s love story in the first book, I fell even harder for Rose and Damian in this one. What can I say? I’m a sucker for a bad boy turned good.

If you love the following tropes and genres, you’ll enjoy this book…
✅ Grumpy/Sunshine
✅ Good Girl/Bad Boy
✅ Bad Boy Turned Good
✅ One-Night Stand Turned More
✅ Plus-Size FMC
✅ Paranormal Romance/Rom-Com

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, highly recommend the series, and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here!

I would like to thank St. Martin's Press, St. Martin's Griffin, NetGalley, and the author for a free eARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

Rose Maxwell is trying to find herself. Until recently, her life as the Prima Apparent witch was set out for her and with stepping down, she’s at a loss with where she fits in. After getting arrested for trying to rescue a horse from an animal sanctuary, she’s sentenced to community service hours at that same sanctuary and meets half-demon, Damian Adams, the handsome, grumpy vet in charge. The attraction is instant but since they have both have sworn off love at the moment, can they risk a no strings relationship?

I loved this spicy hot, paranormal romance. Not Your Ex’s Hexes is the second installment of this series, and can be read as a standalone, but I think the first book is just as fantastic, so read it first! Rose and Damian’s chemistry’s sparks immediately and never runs cold. And it was great to catch up with Vi and Linc, the couple from the first book. I didn’t want it to end, but at least I have the next book to look forward to now!

Not Your Ex's Hexes follows triplet Rose. A night rescuing "abandoned" horses with her sisters, Violet and Olive, turns into community service at an animal clinic. The demon veterinarian Damian and Rose form a FWB. Damian was cursed with a love hex as a teenager and is afraid to get too close to anyone. Their FWB forms into more when they realize they have feeling for each other.
I enjoyed being back in this setting and visiting old characters as well as the new. They were likeable and entertaining.

Not Your Ex's Hexes follows Not the Witch You Wed in the Supernatural Singles series by April Asher. Book 2's prologue starts in book 1's epilogue so I really wouldn't recommend reading these out of order. There will be spoilers for book 1 below.

----

Not Your Ex's Hexes follows middle sister Rose Maxwell after she has stepped down as Prima Apparent. What she has been training and planning for her whole life didn't end up happening and Rose gives herself time and space to find her next step in life and in love. A misadventure leads her to community service with Damian, a half-Demon Veterinarian with a hex on his heart.

I loved this book. It was a fantastic follow up to Violet's story and the expansion of the world was so much fun. Rose and Damian work so well together, their chemistry is to die for but you also really understand why it takes them as long to get together as it does. They both have issues that they are working through. They are both incredibly strong and stubborn people who know what they want and aren't willing to settle for less.

Tropes: forced proximity, friends with benefits-to-lovers, grumpy/sunshine

First of all, I loved the fairy tale-like nods we got in this book. I came for the plus size rep and the magical elements but I fell in love with the trope-filled story. :)

This was honestly such a fast read for me, I loved the grumpy/sunshine trope and had no problem at all staying up late turning the pages to the next bit of banter or spice between these two love interests.

Such a fun read and definitely recommend for any reader looking for body positive fat rep and swoon worthy romance! :)

This one was so much fun! I thought that I had read the first in the Supernatural Singles series but I had not! Despite that it was pretty easy to jump into the supernatural world (I really appreciated the glossary at the back for terms but I found I didn't really need it). I really enjoyed Rose and Damian's story, as they're both headstrong but their chemistry was off the charts.
I absolutely adored their pet names for one another (little witch in particular).

I was a bit confused by the process of the hex, or the history of it, and how it resolved itself. It felt like it went from high stakes to no stakes all of a sudden.

I enjoyed Rose's storyline of finding what she wanted to do with herself, and that she didn't just fall into what Damian or her family wanted for her. She found HER thing.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review!

Overall rating: 3.5⭐️ (rounded down)

This is book 2 in the Supernatural Singles series. Even though I read the first book I got confused while reading this because I didn’t remember it well enough, so I do recommend reading #1 first. Though there’s a handy glossary at the back that I only found when I was done, it’s quite funny too!

Just like the other book in the series, this is a good intro to paranormal romance. It’s a cute, cheesy, fluffy, funny romance, great for Valentine’s day vibes.

👍
+ I loved our hero Damian the half-demon, a little cinnamon roll with a troubled past. His character arc was really the best one. I loved seeing him slowly let people in and just completely fall for Rose.
+ This is a friends with benefits to love romance, and I really enjoyed that transition in their relationship. They were clearly in denial for a bit, but they both (especially Damian) had reasons for it. They were adorable together throughout, and their chemistry is just 🔥🔥🔥.
+ I love Rose’s family. How close the 3 sisters are, how kickass the grandmother is… They’re just a great family that are always there for each other. I also really liked Damian’s brother and his arc throughout the book, hoping to get more of him in future books!
+ The book partially takes place at an animal sanctuary, I loved all the animals they were caring for and I was just as invested in their story as the MCs.

👎
- I’m getting pretty annoyed with fantasies that try to show the FMC is a strong independent woman by having them be fools. Since when does independence mean completely ignoring reason and experience? I was pretty done with the Hunter storyline for this reason, especially the banter while facing literal mortal danger. 🙄
- Maybe I was being extra dense while reading this book, but I just did not get the ending. Something major basically ended up being no big deal. Hard to say more without spoilers.

Thank you to St Martin's Press and NetGalley for the eARC!

I may be in the minority for this one, but I DNF, it just wasn’t a good match for me. I was anticipating more of a cute witchy romance, but was immediately turned off when a tiger shifter was mentioned and just seemed like too many super natural things happening in one space for my liking.

Thank you to NetGalley and St Martins Press for my ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.

This series is *chef’s kiss*
Everything I love inside a paranormal romance with a grumpy sunshine trope! I DO recommend reading Not the With You Wed before this one just so you don’t get anything spoiled. This one takes place not long after and the storyline rolls perfectly. Rose and Damian’s story was so perfect. I am off to buy a physical copy because I need it on my bookshelf! This series is absolutely one of my favorites.

Witchy romance? With a half-demon hot boi?

Look, I'm a simple creature.

To say I devoured this book would be an understatement.

A ONS between out two leads, Rose and Damian, was just the jumping off point for me. I read most of this book with a big ol' grin slapped on my face. And while they were both really endearing and interesting characters, they both had their own flaws and issues, and they had enough chemistry and things in common that I couldn't help but root for them.

Also: if you expect me to not fall in love with someone who gets called "Dr. Broody McGrumpy Pants" then you need to try harder. I love Damian. So. Much.

Well, this was a damn delight.

I love love loved Rose and Damian. She's sunny, he's crunchy, they're both stubborn and sarcastic and I adored reading them fight and resist the chemistry. Until they didn't. Of course, this cast of characters is so much fun and I loved seeing everyone again.

Plot wise, it was good. The animal aspect was a great way to show that Damian wasn't always so crunchy and who doesn't love snuggling puppies. The conflict didn't last long and the grand gesture was glorious...all things I always want.

Overall, it was a fun read with characters I love. I can't wait to read Olive's book and I'm secretly hoping we get even more.

**Huge thanks to the publisher for providing the arc free of charge**

The witchy vibes, half demon I ate it all up. Loved reading this book. On page 2 and I was hooked, did not stop reading. All the characters are brilliant, funny and keep the plot moving. I enjoyed the tension between Rose and Damian. They definitely have great chemistry together.

Just in time for Valentines Day comes the sequel to Not the Witch You Wed, the Not Your Ex's Hexes (Supernatural Singles #2).

A sexy, brooding vet runs an animal sanctuary after leaving his life in the underworld. Unbeknownst to the Maxwell sister, Rose, she attempts to rescue animal already rescued and is sentenced to community service with the animals housed at Vet's ranch. Only this vet is not just any vet, he's the one she had a one-night stand with roughly a year ago, and their jaunt haunts her bedroom nightly. And, she haunts his thoughts too.

While a cute paranormal romance, I struggled through the first portion of the story. This could be because I didn't read book one. I would definitely recommend this series be read in order to enjoy more.

Thank you St. Martins Press for the complimentary copy.

Rose Maxwell, a Witch, has spent years preparing to be the next Prima, but now her sister will take her place. Rose needs a purpose and one does come along. Maybe it's not what she expected, but an opportunity none the less. Having met briefly before, she reconnects with hunky, half Demon Veterinarian Damian Adams who has issues of his own. Life for both changes in ways they never could have imagined.

There is much to enjoy here. The varied cast of characters are memorable. The dialogue is witty and readers will find themselves laughing out loud. In addition, there is passion and adventures. It all comes together perfectly to give readers a wonderful reading experience. Highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from St. Martin's Press through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

the cover?: these covers are so cute, can't wait to see the rest of the series 😍
the FMC: Rose- 🪄 this book follows Rose while she tries to find her place and what she's good at since stepping down as the Prima Apparent in book 1. she tries some odd jobs, learns from her failures, and grows in the duration of this book- especially since book 1!
the MMC: Damian- 😈 this book dually follows Damian as his friends-with-benefits, no-strings-attached relationship leads him off the path he expected to be on. Damian has great character growth and is an absolutely swoon worthy grumpy vet with a heart of gold when it comes to all his animal rescues. he gives off the most beautiful "touch her and 💀" vibes and 😘👌
POV: 3rd person dual perspective
HEA: yes!
spice: spicy/steamy- on par with the other book in the series. there are several open door spicy scenes and plenty of pining, kisses, innuendos throughout
TWs: mentions of past mental manipulation, slight gore, animal rescue- don't worry no animals die during this book! overall, this book is pretty clean in terms of trigger worthy content
standalone?: while this is book 2 of the Supernatural Single series i think this could be read as a standalone, however the world building that starts in book 1 is amazing and book 2 picks right up without explaining the characters connections and the locations they visit

i'm loving this series so much and i can't wait for the series to continue!
try this series if you love
🌎 great supernatural world building
🔮 lots of supernatural types

💘"we're definitely not catching feelings oh whoops i caught feelings"
fake dating (book 1)
FWB (book 2)

This book checked a lot of my yum boxes, right off the bat. A nickname he calls her, enough sparks to start a forest fire, and a variety of sexy species. Sold.

It's very much a paranormal romcom, with moments of a cozy mystery. I think if you like a little fantasy but can't handle world building, this series is a great place to start.

My only critiques are my preferences not being met, while I yelled at my kindle. I love a slow burn, but since they already inserted tab P to slot V, I was yelling, "kiss already!" a ton. Then, I think I was too dumb to really *get* how the ending twist worked out 🤷‍♀️.

Also, the phrase "she glanced at his lips and back to catch him doing the same" stuck out as being used a lot. Again, this is me, because I tried it on my husband to figure out the logistics, and everytime he thought I was randomly being weird. He's also very used to that, in general.

3.75 stars rounded up. I'm not sure exactly what I was expecting from this witchy rom-com, but it was not this. I enjoy witchy rom-coms when they're not too fantasy based, where the characters just so happen to be witches living in our normal world, but this series is based in a supernatural society full of witches, demons, shape shifters, vampires, guardian angels, succubi, etc. For me, it was a tad too much fantasy to wrap my head around, and did slightly impact my ability to enjoy the story. I did read this second book in the series first, because I didn't have time to get to the first in series before pub date, and while this definitely could be read as a standalone and the author did a good job of explaining previous situations, I felt I would have done better to have read the first book first. I did love the unexpected spice in this book and the heat between Rose and half-demon veterinarian Damian as they tried to navigate a no-strings attached relationship but of course caught feelings - I might need to ask to be called little witch now myself. I enjoyed the NYC/LI setting of the story, and in my experience, half demon men from LI certainly tracks. When time allows I definitely want to read the first in series, and I'm most intrigued by the next installment which will likely feature youngest triplet, bookish Olive and guardian angel Bax.
