I love the Maxwell sisters! I went into the first book blind, and loved it. I was so excited to get an ARC of the second book in the series.

So far April Asher’s “Supernatural Singles” books have just enough spice, witty banter, and supernatural fun for me.

This is the grumpy/sunshine trope and I give the spice a moderate level rating. Damien and Rose are awesome together, and I loved the twist at the end.

Can’t wait for the next installment in the series.

Thank you NetGalley and St Martin’s Press for the advance readers copy in exchange for my honest review.

This book is well written, and I think that it would make the perfect Halloween or spooky season read. I thought Damian was a great character- I loved the almost grumpy sunshine dynamic that he and Rose had, made perfect by him being a veterinarian. Who doesn't love a half-demon, right? I also loved the sister dynamics in this book. I will admit, I am an idiot and I did not read the first book. When I requested, I didn't realize it was a series, but I am really excited to pick up the first book and read that now. I assume- and hope- that the next book is about Olive.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this book early!

Not the witch you wed was one of my fave witchy romances last year so I was really looking forward to the sequel. The humor and banter between maybe-enemies was excellent and had a nice build to them getting together. I also liked how the author continued some of the storylines from the first book while still making it clear that this book is about Rose. Up until about the 95% mark I was really feeling this. It was cute, spicy, funny, exciting, romantic, action-packed, featured cute animals, and basically anything else I could have put on a wishlist. But then, the author hit two of my biggest DNF-cues: revealing the “big problem” or “villain” and it’s not actually a big deal or they are just misunderstood and there are no real consequences or pay-off for the stress from the rest of the book AND big, public, dramatic gestures (it fees performative and more for the gesture-er to look good to others than to actually express something to their partner. While the gesture was slightly better than it could have been, the anti-climactic resolution of the big problem really threw me and honestly kinda ruined the book for me.

I’m definitely still going to read the next book but I probably won’t be rereading this one.

Thank you to Netgalley, St. Martins Press, and St. Martins Griffin for allowing me to read this book!!

Ummmmm barely manage to finish this book. I extremely confused about the world development and felt that the book lagged a little bit. To my defense I did not realized this was the second book in the series so I might have enjoyed it better if I read the first one. I also wished the tension between Rose and Damian was were amped up. Although, that is for sure a me thing because I love enemies to lovers.

Not Your Ex's Hexes charmed me!
I really enjoyed the first book last year so I couldn't wait to get my hands on the second one. It didn't disappoint either.
I loved Rose! She was confidant and empowering herself, and I found that to be inspiring. She was definitely relatable and a lot of fun to read about. Damian is the grumpy half-demon of reader's dreams. Their dynamic and banter made the book for me. I couldn't stop smiling during their interactions.
This is friends with benefits so the steam is there. And I will say I think this one is steamier than Not The Witch You Wed. The angst also added to the steam.
A perfectly charming paranormal romcom!

For readers who enjoy: romcoms, comedy, friends with benefits, friends to lovers, grumpy x sunshine trope, paranormal/urban fantasy romance, witches, family drama, and curvy/plus size heroine rep.

First, a big thank you to NetGalley and April Asher for the e-arc of Not Your Ex's Hexes, the second book about the Maxwell sisters! I love a good witchy romance book, and throw in a half-demon and this book delivers.

After Rosie is free from marrying Pepé Le Pee-Yew and is no longer Prima Apparent (thanks to her eldest triplet's magic finally making an appearance) Rose is free to find out who she is and what she wants to do. Except she has no clue what that is because she's been training to be the next Prima all her 30-something years. Rose shakes things up by trying to be a little bit reckless, which just leads her having to complete community service hours at the local animal rescue/vet hospital.
Enter the vet she has to work with: half-demon reformed bad-boy Damian. And the only Supernatural Rose has ever had a one-night stand with. Their mutual attraction has them agreeing to a friends with benefits agreement with one condition: No strings, no feelings, no actual relationship. (But come on, when has that ever really worked?)
Rose starts to learn more about herself; what she likes to do and fulfills her. But also that she might be falling for a certain half-demon. Damian gets a closer look at the life he left ages ago, and he realizes that if he really loves Rose he might need to let her go or else he'll lose everything.

Not Your Ex's Hexes is full of witty remarks and banter. Sometimes it felt like too much (the endearment "little witch" became a "little much") and forced teasing instead of deeper conversations. This book is dual POV, which is almost as necessary to me in a romance book as coffee is to my morning routine. I loved reading Damian's view and how he struggled with his feelings for Rose, the commitments to his animals, and then also making sure he wasn't going to fall under the hex. Besides the lack of deeper conversation, my only other issue with the book was the ending. I feel like there was so much buildup the whole time that Damian couldn't fall in love, and then finding the solution wasn't terribly exciting for me. Like it didn't give me butterflies. The spicy scenes DID give me the spicy butterflies though, so mission accomplished there! I still 100% recommend giving this book a read, especially if you like witchy romances and the first book, Not the Witch You Wed!

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, so my expectations for book 2 were pretty high. They were absolutely met and then some. Rose and Damian were so adorable, they had such wonderful banter. I went from laughing to swooning to fanning my face with each conversation. The side characters in this series are great - Bax and Olive better be getting a book next, because that tension!

I loved the setting of this one, most of it taking place at Damian's animal sanctuary. I'd like my own Jasper, thank you very much.

When Rose winds up doing community service at an animal sanctuary; she goes toe to toe with the half-demon veterinarian she previously had a romp with. Sparks fly, and while discovering herself and what she wants to do after stepping down as prima apparent; Rose and her vet can't resist each other even at the cost of a hex.
I enjoyed this book even more than the first, Rose and her family are slowly growing on me more and more; however, the writing and plot struggled to keep my attention. The book itself and characters are well-written but the humor and jokes often felt forced and unnecessary.

Not Your Ex's Hexes had the potential to be a super fun paranormal romance. The world is intriguing, the characters had promise, and there were some plot threads that could have brought both tension and adventure. And to be clear, this book wasn't an unenjoyable reading experience. It just never quite managed to figure out what kind of book it wanted to be.

Rose and Damian are both a little lost in life. Rose has walked away from the path she spent her whole life training for and Damian is caught between his human self and his inner demon (literally). They hook up at a party, expecting to never see each other again. But circumstances throw them together repeatedly, and it becomes harder and harder to deny that there's something between them.

I'm not sure if it was the dialogue or the storytelling, but Rose and Damian never totally clicked for me as a couple. Possibly because they never fully clicked as individual characters. They both felt a little one-note; Rose in particular seemed as aimless as her quest for "her thing."

The story, too, wandered a bit too much. I could never quite figure out what the most important bits were. The animal rescue? The hunting? I didn't know what I was supposed to root for as Rose's path, and equally didn't know if I was supposed to cheer for Damian embracing his demon side or worry about it. And the twist regarding his ex's hex on him was easy to call about a mile away, with the execution ultimately feeling rushed and clunky.

Ultimately, I just found myself wishing this book had been a little tighter and found its path just a little bit more clearly.

3.25/5

What do you get when you mix a half demon veterinarian with a witch at an animal sanctuary, a lot of drama (with cuddly animal breaks of course) and a steamy romance.

I really liked Damien in this book. He was so conflicted due to the hex on his heart and not wanting his demon side to pull him back into his bad boy hunting ways. All in all he really had a big heart (for the animals and Rose) under the grumpy yet sexy exterior.

A lot of this book was Rose trying to find her thing, but I wanted a bit more magic and typical witchy things from her. It seems like the magic only came about during the hunting portions for the most part.

I've liked both books do far and enjoyed familiar characters from the first book in this book. I think the set-up is there for Olive, I hope we see more of her and Bax in the next book!

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this ARC for my honest review.

Cute, fun and just the right amount of sassiness! I did not realize this book was a sequel so I will definitely check out the first book. Not having read the first did not hinder the enjoyment of this second book and I did not feel lost in the story while reading. Always a plus when a sequel is just as good at being a standalone story!

The characters were funny and entertaining and I loved the dynamic between the main character Rose and her love interest Damian. Them being a witch and a half-demon added a fun, supernatural take on a rom com.

This was a light, quick read and perfect for any romcom/witchy book lover!

I really enjoyed Not Your Ex's Hexes by April Asher. It was a really fun read and I love the world she created with witches, shapeshifters, vampires, demos, etc in New York.

After a one night stand, Rose and Damian can't stop thinking about each other. Rose is all sunshine and rainbows and Damian is a grumpy loner that prefers animals to people. After they are forced to work together at the animal sanctuary Damian runs they decide to have a friends of with benefits arrangement and proceed to fall for each other.

It's a very quick, enjoyable read with some steam and fun banter. I didn't realize it was the second book in a series and still really enjoyed it. I now have book one on my TBR list. I give it 4 stars.

"Not Your Ex’s Hexes" was one of my most anticipated releases this year and it did not disappoint. I LOVE these books! They’re such a good mix of cute, comedy, and romance, with a little spice.

"Not Your Ex’s Hexes" picks up a few months after "Not the Witch You Wed" left off, with Rose struggling to find her niche after stepping down from her role as Prima Apparent.

I really enjoyed Rose’s arc throughout this book and, I mean, how could I not love Damian? A hot, grumpy vet? Sign me up! They had amazing chemistry and their relationship was so enjoyable to read.

It was so nice how much we still got to see of Violet in this book, but I do wish there had been a little more of Linc. I also loved the setup for, hopefully, the third book about Olive and I can’t wait to read it!

I FLEW through this one! I also loved the first one in this little duet (if that’s what it is) this author is someone who writes with inclusiveness and I find that so refreshing! Definitely 5/5 for me!

2.5 Stars I was quite excited to get Not Your Ex’s Hexes by April Asher from NetGalley, especially since it’s October and I’m feeling ~witchy vibes~. There have been multiple times that I’ve read a NetGalley book from a series that I hadn’t previously read, but understood what was happening because it was a standalone and necessary details were explained at the beginning of the book. This is sadly not one of those books. I didn’t read the first book, Not the Witch You Wed, and it is definitely necessary. I wasn’t sure who most of the characters were and definitely didn’t understand the rules and goings-on of this universe.

All that being said, I did appreciate the fast pace of the book. It jumped right into the action and there was never a slow moment. I also liked the main character, Rose, and all of the adorable animals at the sanctuary.

April has created a fun, sexy and magical world full of witches, demons, shifters and more. I really enjoyed the 2nd installment of the supernatural singles series. It was rewarding to watch people pleasing Rose let her hair down and start taking some risks and making choices for herself. Damian falls in love with Rose little by little, with every interaction adding to their connection, and it was so sweet. This book has it all: cute animals, nicknames, sisterhood, a curvy FMC and a broody MMC. Worth a read!

Highlights
• One-night-stand to friends-with-benefits to lovers
• Little witch/ doc
• Cute animals
• Bounty hunting
• NYC setting
• Curvy FMC
• Sisterhood & A supportive group of Supernatural friends
• Clever Chapter titles

Thank you to SMP Romance and Net Galley for an e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

First, I had no idea this was the second book in a series. With that said, it absolutely did not matter. It was easy to read as a standalone. The book was adorable, whimsical, funny and sexy in a heartwarming fantasy kind of way!

Rose Maxell, a witch, has recently stepped down from the Supernatural Council and is looking to find something she is good at. So far, she has not been very successful, barely being able to keep her temper in check. At a crossroads, there are some things she does knows for sure. She absolutely does not want to be in a relationship! But when she walks into a bar and sees half-demon Damian Adams, she has no problem engaging in a one-nightstand. For his part, Damian happily agrees!

But when Rose and her two sisters try to break out some horses they believe are being abused, she gets quite the surprise. First, the break-out was from an animal Sancturary, and second, her one-night stand is the veterinarian at the haven. But more repulsive to her, the Council has decided as punishment for her crime, she must do 30 days of community service there. Needless to say, this does not bode well for either Rose or Damian.

Still searching for a new ‘”real” job, Rose realizes she not only enjoys assisting with the animals, but she is extremely good at the work. She is like an animal whisperer. She realizes she has yet to fit in anywhere, but the Sancturary gives her peace. Unfortunately, Damian gives her anxiety! He fights every good idea she comes up with and she seems to have put a permanent scowl on his very handsome face.

But as they both maneuver how to get along while working, the original spark they had the first night they met begins to become irresistible to both of them. They become “buddies” of a sort. But while Rose would like to take the relationship a step further, Damian has a secret. Years ago, he dumped a witch and she put a hex on him that cannot be removed…ever! He can never fully give his heart to someone, or he basically loses his soul.

So, how do a witch and a demon hunter fix this problem? Well, you will just have to read this enjoyable, unpredictable, supernatural, seductive love story!

Thank you #NetGalley #St.Martin’sGriffin #NotYourEx’sHexes #AprilAsher for the advanced copy.
