Not Your Ex's Hexes by April Aher is book #2 in the Supernatural Singles series. I loved Rose and Damien's story! It was so much fun to read. The dialogue was very entertaining and the characters are quite likeable. This is a great addition to the series.
I received an ARC and this is my honest review.
I actually really enjoyed this book, it was a warm cute romance, like if the hallmark channel ran a Halloween special and they used the word “f*ck”. I don’t know if that makes sense but it’s the best way I know how to describe the way this book made me feel. It’s not a fade-to-black romance but I could easily see it being made for a tv movie. And my point in saying that is that it’s not bad at all —maybe I just read too much dark romance and this just seemed really warm to me.
It felt a little campy at times, like calling people “bwitch”. Or using names like “Mr. Grumpy-pants”. But that’s just a personal preference and me being nit-picky about my personal taste. The point is though, that’s all the “negative” (if you can even call it that) that I have about this book.
I really loved both Rose and Damien, and am PINING for an Olive x Bax story. But I digress. This is a one-night stand to lovers. With a lot of wholesome supernatural thrown in. I think the world is cool and the supernatural community and norm community makes for an entertaining read!
I received this book as an eARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thanks to the publishers and author for the opportunity to read it! Can’t wait to get a physical copy!
This is the first book I read in the trilogy, so I had no idea what to expect... But... Damian and Rose?? Omg I LOVE THEM, she is funny, smart and sweet, and he... not so much haha I love grumpy guys like him.
I really enjoyed it, it was funny and romantic... I can't wait to read Oliv's book! And in the meantime, I'll read Vi and Linc's story!
I was pleasantly surprised with this one. I went in thinking this was going to be just a decent PNR book but I ended up really enjoying this one. I loved both MCs they had amazing chemistry but I also loved all the side characters. This had a lot of laugh out loud moments and lots of steamy scenes too. I need to go back and read the first book and I cant wait for the next story in this series!
I adored this book! The chemistry between the two main characters was spot on! It is an easy, quick, and HEA read. There is nothing to not like about it! If you are looking for a fun and sexy paranormal romance look no farther than this series. It has everything you would want. Sexy scenes, times where you laugh out loud, a group of friends that fits the ‘found family’ trope. Oh did I mention puppies?!
I received a digital copy of this book from Netgalley. I hadn't read the first in the series, but I definitely plan to, after reading this second book.
I loved the characters, and really enjoyed the world in which this story is set. It didn't require much world building, it was sort of like the author added this world on top of the one we live in, which made it easy to believe that there are demons, angels, shifters, vampires, and witches.
From the meet-cute until the end, I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. I wanted to stay in this world! I look forward to finding out what happens to the third triplet in the next book (and I happened upon the first in the series at the library, so excited to read Vi's story)!
I absolutely loved this book. Rose was such a realistic and beautiful character, one I found myself gravitating toward. Watching Rose find herself, was such a validating experience, because it was one that we often find ourselves exploring. I was able to connect with her on a level that went beyond the surface, that it made me so proud to see her find a place where she could live for herself. It was so refreshing watching her be brave and take charge of her life, when she had so often found herself unsure of where she was going in life, with all the changes that she had going on.
This book is completely worth picking up and reading. For anyone who has never truly felt a concrete purpose in life, it will be such a validating experience, full of undeniable chemistry and witty banter. In short, you need to read this book.
I loved this book even more than the first in the series!! if book 3 is not Olive’s story I will be devastated, it is set up beautifully.
Damian…. Can I have him? He is the whole package!! He and Rose complement each other perfectly. My only disappointment was the ending. I would have liked to see more, but the time was spent setting up book three. I expect to see more of this story interwoven into book three.
First of all thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. Spoilers* I am a sucker for a witchy romance and this one definitely checked that box. This book is the second in this series and follows another Maxwell sister as the main female lead and a grumpy demon as the main male. Their romance is very sweet, and as they started off as a FWB situation, lots of spicy moments. The romance plot was a fun one to read and I loved the familial moments too. The banter between sisters and their grandmother was caring and funny and made the story more than just about Rose and Damian’s relationship.
Now the things I didn’t love, for me the length of the book was a little bit of negative. It’s not enough for me not read it and enjoy it but it just seemed long. And the only other thing was the abundance of additional characters. I could keep up for the sisters and guy friends but everyone else got a bit confusing in my opinion.
Overall 3/5 stars and would recommend if you love a paranormal romance, grumpy/sunshine, strong women, and family drama.
OH my gosh is all I have to say about this book!! I am the biggest fan of all things witchy and rom coms!! This was so cheeky choppy in the best way. It was funny and kept my interest. It was a super fast pace read. It was super cute, and fun read. If you are a lover of witchy books then read this series!!! I absolutely loved it.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Not Your Exs Hexes is the second book in the Supernatural Singles series. Following the story of Rose and Damian, a witch and half demon with a one-night stand history. Rose convinces her sisters and best friend to rescue some horses and instead she gets community service with the vet and one-night stand Damian. Their attraction to one another is undeniable but will they go any further than just friends with benefits?
When I picked up this book I didn’t realize it was the second in a series, while I am missing some back stories to side characters in this book. I was able to read it and understand what was going on.
This book was such a delight to read. The story and the writing together made it a really enjoyable read. Rose is the middle triplet and she is trying to find her place in life now that her older sister Vi, is prima apparent.
I really loved Rose’s journey with finding herself now that her life is going in a new direction. She could have been overly positive about it or she could have felt sorry for herself. Instead she knows she has to work and it will have its ups and downs. When she is given community service with Damian she isn’t thrilled but she embraces it so quickly.
Damian is a vet and has an animal sanctuary. Warning the animals in his care in this story have sad backstories. There are brief mentions of this in the story. There is also a stressful puppy rescue scene. The animals in this story are ok and do get their own HEA.
I really loved the relationship and dynamic between Rose and Damian. You can see just how well the balance one another out.
Part of me wishes that the action in this book was a little more intense. It was good and there were some mildly tense moments. Yet there were a few scenes that if they have been a little more intense I think they would have been slightly stronger.
I absolutely loved the few little nods to supernatural shows and movies!
There is some spice in this book. A few scenes that are adult.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves supernatural, witchy, contemporary romance.
I will also be checking out book one sometime soon too. I can’t wait for book three I have some suspicions as to what will happen there.
This was too much fun to read. The sibling banter, the romance banter, the build up. The chemistry is so intertwined with the plot the romance just makes so much sense. I loved it.

Not Your Ex’s Hexes is second in the Supernatural Singles series, based around a trio of witch sisters. I didn’t read the first before this, and while this one kicked right in with assuming the reader understood this world and how supernatural society worked, I didn’t take too long for me to figure it out. I like that this story is told from both the man and woman lead perspective, and the dynamic between them felt real. On the other hand, the book as a whole felt really long, and there were a ton of secondary characters. A few bits of clunky dialogue that made me roll my eyes (the sisters call each other “bwitches” as an insult which is full body cringe), but overall it was cute.
This was such a delightful read! I enjoy this author’s style with her leading ladies. It was nice to get to learn more about the “perfect sister” we meet in the first book. If you were a fan of the first book in the series you have to check this one out!
The perfect witchy rom-com. From one-night stand to forced proximity to lovers, Rose meets her match in the half-demon Damian. The former Prima Apparent is trying to find herself after stepping away from the title as Future Head-Witch in Charge. Rose gets into trouble resulting in her being forced into close proximity to her one and only one-night stand. Because of an old hex, Damian does his best to not get too close to Rose. A wonderful sequel to Not the Witch You Wed!
Such a great sequel to the first book! I loved the humor, easy to read and super cute. I loved the body positivity, we definitely need more of these. Thank you so much NetGalley and April Asher for allowing me to read this ARC!
REVIEW: Not Your Ex’s Hexes ARC
Rating: ✨3.5/5✨
Spice: 🌶️🌶️
Plot: It bounced around a bit, but it was solid
Romance: ♥️♥️♥️
This book was an average read for me. I didn’t read the first book in the series, but I got all I needed from book 2. The book is about Rose, who was the Witch Prima Apparent until her sister came into power. She stepped down and is now trying to find her way in life.
I also love rescue stories as a mom to my little rescue doggie.
❣️SPOILERS BELOW❣️
Rose is likable and fun. She is a troublemaker and stubborn, and she has a good heart. Her good heart comes into play when she finds two horses she thinks are being abused and goes to rescue them illegally. It gets awkward when she finds out that she was stealing them from an animal sanctuary with a vet already caring for them. Enter Damian, the half-demon with whom she had a one-night stand at the beginning of the book.
A few things come to mind that bother me about this book. The first hookup — can be removed. It plays no relevance to the plot. Second, the creation of the language (ex: bwitch = bitch + witch). I’m sorry, but that made me cringe so much. Much of the introduced language does, as well as the mention of the Jonas Brothers. Hex me, can stay. The rest, not so much.
I also feel like the story wrapped kind of abruptly. I wanted more of the sanctuary fundraiser and how Rose chose her new path. We just get told at the end about her being a Hunter in training. Honestly, it doesn’t make sense. I wish we had a better epilogue than just setting up the next book.
I liked the romance and the hex plotline. The author has a gift there; she needs to hold back a little. I like that Rose and Damian are soul mates, but it’s barely explained. Maybe in Olive’s book, we’ll see more of them like we did Violet and Linc. I don’t know.
This was a good read, if not rough around the edges. Like seriously needs a deep edit. I caught MANY mixed phrases. One thing was kitty-corner when they meant caddy-corner.
A solid read needs a bit more polish.
I enjoyed Not The Witch You Wed last year and was excited to read the follow up Not Your Ex’s Hexes. Book two follows middle Maxwell sister, Rose and half-demon, Damian. Damian was cursed by an ex with a soul curse making it impossible for him to fall In love. But sparks fly when Rose is forced to do community service at Damian’s animal rescue.
What I liked: You could read this as a stand-alone but you’d miss some of the backstory. That being said, I liked this book more than the first. There is less need to lay background and characters, so the author can jump into the plot.
The book has some truly laugh out loud banter. The dialogue is good without being cheesy.
Rose and Damian deciding to be friends with benefits allows for some steamy scenes.
What didn’t work for me: I didn’t fully understand the curse aspect.
I think how the magical world and normal world interact could be explored more. Norms (the non magical characters) seem to know about magic to some degree, but it’s not mentioned in a bigger scheme. For example, while hunting (essentially bounty hunting wanted magical creatures), they destroy parts of the city - it’s not mentioned how they will explain this or any repercussions.
Who should read it: you want a contemporary romance with a magical twist. Think Charmed with more romance.
I can’t wait for Olivia’s book and hopefully Harper gets a story, too.
There is just something about a cute witchy romantic comedy that just always makes me happy. Thankfully, Not Your Exe’s Hex did just that.
A confused yet badass powerful witch who stages a horse freedom run and a half-demon veterinarian who is secretly a cinnamon roll? Sign me up!
While I haven’t read the first book in this series, the fact that the books can be read as a standalone was great! I’ll definitely be going back and reading the first one though, that is for sure.
I will definitely be reading more books by this author in the future!
This was a great sequel to the first book. A fun witchy romance and I love the plus size representation. I look forward to more books from this author.
