I was so excited to read this book and it did not disappoint! Asher caught my attention with "Not the Witch You Wed" and has completely sealed the deal with "Not Your Ex's Hexes". This book was everything I wanted out of a supernatural romance. Rose and Damian were fantastic together with off the charts chemistry and way more in common then it might immediately seem on the surface. Outside of that, my favorite part was getting to see more of Rose and how she dealt with all of the life changes that she went through in the first book. She had to completely rewrite her major life plans and it was great to see how she eventually came to terms with that.
It's a cute book with a handful of smut.
I liked that it had a good plot to it beyond just the romance.
The handsome half demon vet was having issues with his sanctuary and Rose, the previous head witch in charge who needs a steady job, came in and helped out.
It has a lot of the romantic troupes in it but they made me laugh and kept me intrigued.
Overall: 3.5/5 but I rounded up.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
The book comes out on 07 Feb, 2023.
This is the next book in the Supernatural Singles series, you should definitely read💖💫
GORGEOUS COVER😍❤️ BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN🤩💕
LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT<3
Literally could not stop laughing. Thank you so much to the author and the publisher for the ARC.
Now hear me out, I lost my fall / Halloween vibe very fast so didn't read the first one, but now I really will. Rose is great and the banter with Damian was real. Plus the sexy time was on another level!
Full of witchy-ness and family. A lovely time!
This book was such a good read it was super cute and I actually liked it better than the 1st book in the series.. I think the plots are getting better with each book. This book has it all funny and spicy all the good stuff makes into one story. I love the supernatural elements too!!!
This book takes place after the first book in this series and it's about Rose, the second sister in the triad. All of her life she was being trained to be the Prima Apparent, because she was the most powerful witch in her triad.
Violet from Not The With You Wed, was the oldest sister bur her powers were dormant for a long time. She didn’t think she had the power to be the Prima Apparent, which we learned with not true in her book.
“We’re not leaving you! Witches who ride together, die together.”
Now that Rose is released from her duties she's not really sure what to do with herself. So she's trying to find herself and she what she's good at. Rose is also trying to not be as rigid as she was.
“Attempted horse theft. Horse-napping? Horse thievery? I don’t know what the hell to call it. She said something about Operation Equine Freedom and I was too damn afraid to ask.”
It was every night, so frequently that Harper was half-convinced she was having a secret affair—or had a membership to a pleasure club. According to the succubus, that’s how soaked in pheromones she’d become. Or to quote the sex demon verbatim, “You’re extra horny lately, Rose.”
Damien is a half demon that was on the wrong track and was deep into the wrong path that he was hexed by his ex girlfriend. Then he decided he needed to change his lifestyle and became a veterinarian.
He has completely turned his life around and trying to stay away from the dark side. He's doing good for himself but isn't trying to have a relationship due to his hex.
While all of this is going on we also have the triads relationship with each other.
And the relationship between the sisters are amazing and so worth it!
It was every night, so frequently that Harper was half-convinced she was having a secret affair—or had a membership to a pleasure club. According to the succubus, that’s how soaked in pheromones she’d become. Or to quote the sex demon verbatim, “You’re extra horny lately, Rose.”
When they connect it’s a good time and they don’t see each other again until she has to do community service at Damien's animal shelter.
He's the grump to her sunshine. He's constantly grumpy while she's always sunshine and trying to be the best.
Rose followed his gaze to Damian, and shrugged. “He may have the personality of a soggy potato, but he’s honestly not bad once you get to know him. He grows on you. Like super fungus.”
I loved the push and pull between the characters and they way that Damien knew he was getting in too deep but kept going and the fact that Rose was trying not to fall but she ended up falling anyways.
“Didn’t I mention that I’m on a hiatus from doing things I should do?” Rose asked, her voice breathless and sexy as hell. “Right now, I’m focusing on things I want to do . . . and right now, Damian Adams, I want to do you.”
I also really enjoyed the slow burn between the characters, while they were getting to know each other. The character development was the best. I love when characters are developed and you get to see them grow and be the better versions of themselves.
Olive studied them both a few seconds longer before nodding for them both to follow. “Stay back, stay quiet, and for the love of Goddess, don’t interfere. Gran isn’t the only one with the ability to give cross-continental ass-blasts.”
I absolutely love this book, not gonna like Not The Witch You Wed was my favorite so far but this was a great second addition. I really enjoyed reading this book.
This was another great one for me by Ms. Asher. I can't wait to read the next book in the series, Olivia and Bax have been building since the first book in this series and I can't wait to see what Ms. Asher does with this story.
And here I thought Not the Witch You Wed was freaking amazing! Man I was wrong!
Not Your Ex's Hexes by April Asher was mind-blowing, just absolutely phenomenal y'all!

St. Martin's Griffin,
Thank You for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this eARC!
This is the 2nd book in the Supernatural Singles series by April Asher. I haven’t read the 1st book, Not the Witch You Wed, but it can definitely be read as a stand-alone. There is a lot of mention of the main characters from the 1st one so I’ll definitely be checking out that one soon.
It’s absolutely insane how spicy this read was and, more importantly, it was female-focused spice. There was also a lot of romance, action, and fantasy involved in the story as well. This is a perfect blend for romcom and fantasy readers. There’s also a little dictionary in the back for readers newer to the genre.
The plot is centered around witch Rose and half-demon Damian who become engaged in a friends with benefits arrangement. Now reading that you may think to expect that spice but I’m telling you it surpasses your expectations. It’s really enjoyable to see their relationship form and meet their friends and family along the way. I also loved reading about the animals they worked with and their storylines were so cute. This is a very character heavy book and they was such a likable ensemble that it was such a joy reading their stories. There was also a lot of comedy, hence the romcom genre, and there were many moments I audibly laughed. I NEED to read a book about Olive finding love now.
Some of the supernatural dialogue was cringey at first but it didn’t take long to get used to. The characters’ lovability made up for any qualms I had. The ending was also a little rushed but I feel like that’s a typical complaint for any romance book.
I definitely recommend this one, especially for romcom lovers looking to read something slightly different within the genre. There’s also representation with the leading lady, Rose, who is plus-sized and tall, which is definitely nice to see in romance.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for sending me an arc in exchange for a review.
This was SO much fun, almost non-stop action and hilarity despite the paranormal romance vibes it most strongly gave off. I loved the cast of characters and was actually surprised that it wasn't just a wee bit hotter (read: sexier) based on the language and tone (but maybe that was just me). I could have binged this book in one day but legit couldn't keep my eyes open EVEN for this, so it ended up taking two but still, add this to your list of bingeable in a day books.
I've just started reading paranormal romances and this was a bit lighter in a lot of ways than others I've read before so that was nice because since I'm new to the sub-genre it can feel overwhelming to have a lot of spells, rules etc to remember. That said, there wasn't QUITE enough background for me (maybe that's what I missed in the series starter) and sometimes the main character was doing a spell what seemed like out of nowhere which would always be a bit of a surprise - but it wasn't anything so distracting that I was caught up on it during reading - it's moreso upon reflection that I realize and think about this.
I loved the characters, they had good depth for this type of read, yet it was also fantastical enough and fun to read so it was a really great combination of all of the elements the author clearly wanted to include. Well done.
I read this immediately after reading "Not the Witch You Wed," which significantly improved the storyline. This is a fantastic enemies-to-lovers romance with the perfect amount of angst and soul-searching.
Rose grew up expected to be perfect. Witch and to become the next leader of the supernatural council. When her older sister suddenly shows magical powers, Rose must step aside and relinquish everything she had spent her life training for. While she's trying to figure out her place, she has a one-night stand with a demon that obviously doesn't turn out to be the last time they see each other.
In an attempt to find herself, Rose gets caught committing a crime and is subjected to community service at, you guessed it, that super hot demon's clinic. Damien wants nothing to do with Rose and doesn't expect her to last the day, let alone her entire community service time.
The banter between the two is witty, and I just loved them together. Any good enemies-to-lovers romance needs to have solid fire between the couple. this nails that! If you read "Not the Witch You Wed" and like the world, don't sleep on this one! I cannot wait for the next book in the series.
This book was exactly what I needed. Hilarious, magical, great romance and excellent world building. I had so much fun reading it and cannot wait to read it again soon!
Please please tell me we are gonna get a book or novella for Olive! This book was soooo good! Rose and Damion’d heat man it was lighting the book on fire! I think I read this book in three days and took that long just cause I had to work. Fantastic book and really hoping we have more to come about Olive!!! I was able to read this book early thank you to Netgalley!
Rating: 4 / 5 Stars
Thank you to NetGalley & April Asher in sending this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Wow, what an adorable & fun read! I had so much fun and love me a grumpy sunshine trope - and this one was done so well. I also loved all of the funny moments that truly had me laughing out loud.
Thank you to the author, publisher & NetGalley for letting me read this book early.
Tropes/topics: witches, shifters, demons, mutual pining, forced proximity, grumpy sunshine ish, friends with benefits,
I felt like I was thrown into the book in an awkward way. I was super confused in the beginning & I couldn’t figure out who the main character was for a bit. I didn’t realize this was a book 2. When I request books on NetGalley they don’t say if it’s a part of a series. I don’t normally look up if it is & I definitely should. This is considered a series standalone so it might not be too complicated but there are crossover characters.
This book was adorable. I loved it once I understood what was going on. Damian (a demon) & Rose (a witch) are the perfect match. Damian is a vet with a pet sanctuary that Rose has to do community service at. Her ideas to better the place are wonderful & as much as he doesn’t want to admit it. Damien was also hexed by his ex 18 years ago to never know true love & happiness.
The subway scene was truly hilarious & I wish it had been longer. I truly had my heart break multiple times while reading this book. I wasn’t expecting to love it so much! I don’t want to spoil anything but just know once you pick this up you won’t want to put it down.
Definitely pick up this book & series!
This book was a PERFECT paranormal romcom! It had all my favorite tropes, and my favorite grumpy sunshine male character with a bad ass female main character! I read Not the Witch you Wed in my October reads and I was so excited to read this before it's release day - and dare I say, I loved this book more than the first. [Which doesn't happen very often when reading a series that changes main characters the way this did.]
Now that Rose is no longer the Prima Apparent she was lost and needed to find herself and her calling. Feeling restless and down in the dumps not knowing what to do now that she wasn't in the spotlight she set out to look for a new meaning in life which led her to make some questionable choices along the way. She orchestrated a "rescue mission" that went south and ended with the Maxwell triad [her and her triplets] facing the supernatural council and stuck with community service. Rose was forced to serve her sentence helping the very same animal sanctuary in which their mission took place - to her surprise the owner of the sanctuary was none other than Damien Adams a grumpy [and SEXY] half demon, veterinary who she had a one night stand with months before. Now she has to be in his insufferable presence and her still being attracted to him made things even worse UNTIL she had the brilliant idea to start a "friends with benefits" / no strings attached agreement with him that we all know NEVER really works out that way.
Damien was honestly swoon worthy and he pulled at my heart strings and Rose was so stubborn and a pain in his butt, BUT he couldn't keep her out of his mind any better than Rose could keep him out of hers. The banter and chemistry between Rose and Damien was literally AMAZING and the spice?!?! PERFECT - It made this book even better. This had me laughing out loud so many times, it was such a fun read. Definitely recommend and I can't wait to read more books by this author.
Thank you to St. Martin's Griffin and NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
After stepping down as Prima, Rose Maxwell is just trying to figure out what to do with her life. When she's sentenced to community service hours at the animal sanctuary where Damian (her first and only one-night-stand) works, the two constantly butt heads. However, their arguing is basically foreplay, and they two wind up in a FWB situation. It starts to become more to both of them, but Damian had been cursed to lose his soul if he falls in love.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and I was so excited to read about Rose after meeting her in Not the Witch You Wed. April Asher hit so many good tropes and balanced the romance and humor just right. I can't wait to read about Olive next...and maybe Harper one day soon ;)
This book was pure fun; I love the Maxwell sisters and it was so much fun to watch Rose figure out what to do with herself now that she is no longer Prima Apparent. Damien made for a delightfully grumpy leading man to Rose's very optimistic outlook as she looks for her new passion. Also, there are cute puppies in this book so really, you can't go wrong. I like the set-up for the next book as well. April Asher is so good about taking the tried and true romance tropes and adding magic into them. Highly recommend for a read that will be fun and take you out of reality for a few hours!
Not Your Ex's Hexes was a fun follow up to the first book in the Supernatural Singles series, Not the Witch You Wed. I enjoyed learning more about the Maxwell sisters and watching the relationship build between Rose and Damian.
Earlier this year I read Asher's first novel, 'Not the Witch You Wed,' and though some of the dialogue was a little quirky, I really enjoyed it.
I felt the same about 'Not Your Ex's Hexes!' I loved getting to see this new side of Rose, as we only got to see her as prior Prima Apparent in the first book. This book even made me actually end up loving both Violet and Linc more! I enjoyed Damian, but occasionally the brooding/grumpiness got a bit old.
I CANNOT wait for Olive and Bax's story, as this one had a lot of build up for the next installment as well.

I HATE when a main character breaks up with the other one because they decide their partner 'deserves better.' I HATE that trope. So that aspect bugged me a bit, but luckily its short lived!
Not Your Ex's Hexes is the second novel in the Supernatural Singles series and it does not disappoint! It picks up shortly after the ending of the first novel, and focuses this time on the second Maxwell sister, Rose.
After giving up her role as Prima Apparent to her older sister Violet, and ending her engagement to a total dbag, Rose is a little lost in what her life's purpose is. In an attempt to do a good deed, she ends up being given community service at a local animal sanctuary and working with Damian. A demon-shifter who she *might* have had a one night stand with and who might be best friends with her new brother in law.
Damian has a hard past that he keeps close to his chest. He also carries around a curse given to him when he was 16 in which he can't fall in love, for if he does, he'll lose his soul. For this reason, Damian leads a solitary life, never being with a woman more than once. If he doesn’t have the opportunity to love a woman, he won't have the chance to lose his soul.
But the attraction between Rose and Damian is strong. Not only do they have their past night of passion to remember, but working in close proximity only makes it that much more difficult to keep away from one another. So they decide to strike a Friends with Benefits agreement.
I think we've all had those moments in life where we feel lost, or scared, or unsure of what our next step should be. While this may be a witchy romcom, it's also very relatable and you can connect with the characters. There are many funny moments, but serious ones as well.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Dare I say… I think it was better than the first! Told from third person/dual POV, I definitely recommend it! I do recommend reading Not The Witch You Wed first, so as not to spoil that book when reading this one!
Thank you NetGalley for an advance copy of this book to read and review.
