A witchy supernatural, grumpy sunshine romance with a lot of banter and flirting.

Rose is trying to figure herself out after breaking her bonding contract with a huge jerk, and giving up her spot as Prima Apparent to her older sister. One night while she is out with the girls she convinces them they need to save 2 horses from an abusive situation, and when she gets caught she is punished with community service. What she did not know is the horses were already saved from abuse and living on an animal sanctuary. She is assigned to assist the resident grumpy vet Damian, in the sanctuary who she happened to have a one night stand with. Forced to work together comes with its challenges and an opportunity to maybe find the one.

I had so much fun with this one. The banter and flirting between Rose and Damian had me smiling the whole time. I liked the theme of finding your place and being a hot lost mess, and having a group of friends who would never give up on you.

April Asher's Not Your Ex's Hexes is the second book in a series that takes place in a world where supernatural beings are real and known to "normal" people. This book revolves around Rose Maxwell and Damian Adams as they navigate a friends with benefits relationship while dealing with unknown futures and complicated pasts.

This book was great and I enjoyed the writing style as it was complex without being overly confusing or needlessly complicated. It was entertaining, funny, and engaging. Both Rose and Damian are relatable and their banter is witty and engaging, but they also open up to one another as their relationship progresses. The sexual tension and chemistry between the two was palpable and provided for some nice, steamy scenes. As much fun as they were together, watching them work through their own individual issues was also quite compelling. It was easy to empathize with both characters as you read about Rose's desire to find her "thing" and Damian's desire to escape a troubled past.

As with the first book in the series, this one contained the other Maxwell sisters Violet and Olive as well as many other supernatural beings that add a richness to the story without distracting from the main plot. I am excited to read about Olive's journey that was teased out in this novel. The only critique I have is that at time's this book felt a bit long, but not so much that it detracted from the overall likeability of it.

I had previously read Not The Witch You Wed, the first book in this series and while I enjoyed that first outing slightly more than this one, I still highly recommend this book, especially to readers of romance, fiction, and fantasy.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed Not The Witch You Wed, and couldn’t wait to jump into Not Your Ex’s Hexes to see what happens next to this group! I think April Asher sets up who is going to end up with who and I’m intrigued to see how the other two happen!

You can tell there is immediate attraction between Damien and Rose, I mean they do hook up before they know who each other is. But both have their reservations about getting into a relationship, so they decide to have a friends with benefits deal.

I enjoyed the banter between Rose and Damien. I’m always here for the banter! They had vastly different opinions on who they thought the other was, which was fun to see that change. When reading, you could clearly tell that a no strings attached situation between them wasn’t going last!

I would have liked a little more from the ending. I think there was a few unresolved things that I would have liked to see a more resolved on the pages. But overall I enjoyed this read!

This is a witchy vibe book, but it doesn’t need to be read during the Halloween season!

After listening to Not the Witch You Wed on audio a few weeks ago, I couldn't wait to read Rose Maxwell's story in book 2 of the Supernatural Singles series by April Asher. I was ecstatic to be approved for an e-arc, immediately dove into the story, and am so glad I did!

Since the age of eight, Rose Maxwell was raised and educated to be the next Prima (head of the witches and their representative on the Supernatural Council), but what direction would she take following the emergence of her sister Violet's magic and resulting designation as Prima Apparent? It was clear by the end of Not the Witch You Wed that Rose's life had been all about duty, not living for herself. In Not Your Ex's Hexes, Rose has the opportunity to explore her options and to find where her talents and happiness lie.

Grumpy and aloof, Dr. Damian Adams prefers animals to people. A veterinarian who runs an animal rescue, he is new to town. When Rose spies two neglected horses on Damian's property, she gathers her sisters and their best friend Harper to stage Operation Equine Rescue. Although Damian doesn't press charges, the Supernatural Council sentences Rose to 80 hours of community service at the animal rescue. The chemistry between Damian and Rose is intense, but Damian doesn't do repeats or relationships. A no strings attached f*ck. buddy arrangement should work, right? Damian, half demon and half human, has secrets in his past and a hex on his soul. Damian has a lot of character development in this book, but I'm not giving away any details!

I loved seeing Rose take risks, push herself out of her comfort zone, and find what she wants to do with her life. She's willing to push for what she wants, explore her natural talents in unconventional ways, and also use her non magical skills to help the animal rescue. Olive, Bax, Violet, Lincoln, and Harper all make return appearances, in addition to the introduction of Julius, Damian's brother. There is so much potential with this series and I am curious about what will happen next.

If you like a close proximity, opposites attract, Grumpy/Sunshine relationship with a paranormal twist, this book is for you!

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Griffin for the e-arc; I am happy to provide my honest review.

While you definitely need to read Not the Witch You Wed before diving into this second installment in the Supernatural Single series, I found this one to be even more enjoyable. The character growth for both Damian and Rose had me hooked. They had mounds of chemistry and their banter was perfection. In both books I was a huge fan of the idea of a True Mate-it definitely spoke to my reformed Twilight fan heart. I am hopeful we get a story for Olive next as some enticing breadcrumbs were sprinkled throughout Rose's story. This is a fun, spicy, magical read that I highly recommend. Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC.

4.5 Stars

This paranormal rom com was such an amazing continuation of the Supernatural Singles series. I was laughing out loud so many times.

One of the things I love best about this series is the world building. This series revolves around a world where magic and the paranormal are not hidden away. Every day humans (or Norms) are aware of them. It’s so refreshing!

Readers could read this book as a standalone, but there’s definitely a lot of characters that are in both and you’ll definitely have a better background knowledge about Rose.

Damian’s backstory is excellent and really well done, I feel like I should have figured it out, but I didn’t! The pining in this book is top notch, and the fact he’s a reformed demon veterinarian, *swoon*.

Prepare yourself, this is a spicy romance, with lots of heart, and lots of heat. Grumpy sunshine lovers, this book is for you.

I am besides myself with excitement for the next book in the series, but honestly, I hope this series is endless. The side characters are just so good, I need to see them all have their HEAs!

Loved this book! It’s one of my top reads for October! I wish I had read the first book in the series. It took me a few chapters to understand the concept. Still a book I would recommend.

Not Your Ex's Hex's is a decent witchy rom com, but I am finding our that I am not a witchy rom com person. That being said, I enjoyed reading Asher's book.

Not Your Ex's Hexes was a fun, light-hearted urban fantasy and I enjoyed reading it despite not having read the first in the series. I think if I had, the lore and world-building would have made more sense and led to a slightly better reading experience.

While the plot and romance were both great, I craved a bit more from each. The chemistry between the two main characters was palpable and I wish they had communicated better towards the end of the novel. What surprised me was how much I enjoyed Damian's character arc, growth, and POV.

Some of the secondary characters such as Julius, Olive, and Bax were interesting as well and I hope to see more of them in the third book (all signs point to one for Olive!). I will definitely return to this world and read the rest of the series.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Rose Maxwell, former Prima Apparent, triplet, and all around amazing witch decides it's time to find the thing that makes her happy. When a night of trying to free some horses ends up with Rose, her sisters, and their friend Harper, in jail, Rose comes face to face with grumpy half demon Damian.

I absolutely loved the first book in this series and when I had the opportunity to read this one, I jumped at the chance. April Asher has done it again. I'll be honest, I wasn't Rose's biggest fan in "Not the Witch You Wed". But we get to see a whole different side of her in "Not Your Ex's Hexes" and I'm here for it. Plus we get to see Damian. Half demon, veterinarian, and all around grumpiest of grumps. When Rose has to serve community service at his animal sanctuary, Damian ties everything to keep her at a distance. But Rose gets under his skin.

If you loved "Not the Witch You Wed" then I think you'll throughly enjoy "Not Your Ex's Hexes"

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC of this book.

Hex Me….again!

This sequel, (but not really because it’s about Rose), is probably one of the best follow-up books around. I love that even though Rose is the star of this book we still got A LOT of Violet and a little of Linc!

This book is packed with adventure, mishaps, and everything in-between. Not a moment was boring, everything fit together like a puzzle, right down to the very last satisfying piece.

Asher does a really good job of giving each sister their own voice, and it really stands out in this book. Don’t get me wrong, Rose is still quick-witted, and sarcastic like Vi, but she’s also more thoughtful. She really thinks about things before jumping into them Magic first. She’s caring and kind, sweet, and a bit tame. But never boring.

Damian, oh the sweet, sweet grump. He’s a character all together. He’s stubborn, and stupid to be honest. But gah, did I love him. He’s the perfect version of “touch her, you die”.

While Violet’s story is expanded on in this book, just a smidge, you can read it as a standalone. However, I highly suggest reading Not The Witch You Wed first. Everything felt much more enjoyable that way.

I like reading books that I can relate to and despite the supernatural premise, I found a lot in common with Rose other than sharing a name. She’s had her life planned out for most of her life, and when she’s forced to change course, it gets pretty messy. I need things planned out ahead as well, so watching her chart a new path was really special to watch. I also loved her chemistry with Damian. I thought their relationship was really cute and had amazing tension.
My main issue with this book was that, at times, there was too much going on. It would have been better if it had focused on just Damian and Rose’s relationship rather than spending a lot of time on backstory with the side characters.

Not Your Ex’s Hexes by April Asher
This is the second book in the Supernatural Singles Series, but it can be enjoyed as a standalone romance. I will however go back and read the first book since I enjoyed this one so much. I thought the story was just so good. There were several laugh out loud moments, and you can’t help but root for the characters. Definitely was rooting for Rose and Damian to find their happiness. Read this if you like witches, shifters, vampires, guardian angels, and so much more.
Many thanks to April Asher, NetGalley, St. Martin’s Griffin, and St. Martin’s Press for the advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

A good follow up to Not the Witch You Wed, a lot of the elements I enjoyed from the first book are still present - like the alt/mod world of supernaturals being "out" and the sweet, no-drama bond between the three Maxwell sisters.

Overall I enjoyed the story and the characters, it’s a fun, cute forced proximity romance. A little more spice than the first book since our grumpy-sunshine MC’s start out as a one night stand, so a spicy relationship is already established and doesn’t have to be led up to.

One of the things that I really loved about the first book was the hilarious banter and while there are plenty of funny bits in this one, the banter doesn’t flow quite as naturally as first book and the chemistry between Rose and Damian fell a smidge flat…there was just a little bit of a forced undertone in the plot and writing this time. It’s a fun read and I enjoyed it, it just didn’t *quite* hit the mark as high as the first book for me. I am really looking forward to the third book though, Olive is my favorite of the three sisters and I can’t wait to read her story!

This is a fun second book to the series. Although they could be standalones I definitely recommend having read the first as this takes over Rose’s story and a lot of her history is established in Not the Witch you Wed, and this book definitely has some set up for the next sister.

Rose is from one of the most powerful witch families and is learning her place in the world and Damian is hot, demon, veterinarian, so, yes please. The story has some parts that were a little slow for me and I think added to be comedic but kinda fell short for me.

The relationship between the two of them has a good development pace and I enjoy the two of them together. This book is full of Buffy references, banter and more of this fun supernatural/ human world. I love the grandma, Edie.

Overall, it’s a nice light supernatural romance with some steam and fun friends/ family.

ARC provided through NetGalley, thanks! Review is full of my freely given honest opinions.

This book was everything I didn't know I needed in the second installment of the Supernatural Singles Series. Personally, I think paranormal contemporary romance can be a hard genre to get right. There is the normal story balance but the added pressure of the paranormal element, too much and the romance is lost or too little and why bother?

This book stuck the perfect balance for me! I love the world that Asher has brought together in an urban (New York) low-fantasy setting with a great mix of supernatural creatures. The life/identity crisis Rose has in the book was written to be so relatable with the bonus of her being stubborn and never going to give up, was just delightful to read. Damian was the delectable and sexy Demon vet who I just wanted more and more of. With such a soft heart and such cute animal moments, the grumpy facade that Damian gave was entertaining to watch melt away as the book progressed. Rather than a GrumpyxSunshine trope, it was a GrumpyxStubborn trope, and to be honest, I'm surprised we don't see more of this because it was excellent (The Grumpy will have to be worn down somehow). This book is heavy on angst and banter and fits Rose and Damian's character setup beautifully.

I loved this second book and man it did bring the spice! I could have done without the Mr. Wiggles references, but that's such a small thing I could just eye-roll and move on. Overall, an excellent read!

I read April Asher’s Not The Witch You Wed and absolutely loved it. So when I saw Not Your Ex’s Hexes, I jumped at the chance to read it. First, I love the world Asher has created. I think it would be classified as “magical realism” in that it takes place in basically the regular world as we know it today, but just adding in supernatural characters. The Maxwell family lives in NYC and are the top witch family of the supernatural world (supernatural beings live side by side with “Norms”). This book in the series focuses on the middle sister, Rose. Compared to the first book, I thought Rose was a bit less confident and seemed to not think of herself as very capable or powerful. However, considering the events that affected her in the first book I think it makes sense that she was struggling to find her true self. I love that the male main characters in both books have been respectful, loving, mature, and selfless men. The male main character in this book, Damien, obviously had his flaws but I was in love with him from the beginning. Obviously there is 🔥sex 🔥 in the story (just like book 1), it is not overwhelming nor does it take over the plot. It does add a nice spice factor though (on scale 1 to 5 I would say the spicy scenes are a 3.5-4, but I don't read spicy novels extensively so I could just be too innocent lol). I loved the character development of both main characters, plus we got a glimpse into the main characters from book 1 to see how they were doing. I also liked that it seemed she was setting the stage for (hopefully) book 3 focusing on the younger sister. There was some predictability but I prefer that in RomComs, it wasn't overwhelming and there were still some plot points that caught me by surprise. Overall, I love Asher’s writing style and the ease of which I can read her stories. I am always laughing while reading her books and they are relatively quick reads for me.

I don't know why I requested this book from the publisher. I am super thankful to have gotten an ARC of this book. But I really did not like the first book in this seires. I didn't really like this one either. But I did like it better than the first book. I am just not a fan of the whole fantasy romance thing. I do not like fantasy books. I am a big fan of enemies to lovers so I was a fan of that in this book. But to much fantasy for me to really get into this book. I also do not think that April Ashers writing is for me.

I enjoyed this one slightly less than the first, mainly because I wanted more banter. HOWEVER, the increased spice was great, and I loved the forced proximity and the plot twist with Damian. I also enjoyed Rose more than I thought I would. Olive is definitely my favorite sister still, so I can’t wait for her book.
