This was so well written. I was engrossed from the first page and it ticked all the boxes of my expectations. The character development was excellent. I would definitely recommend to others, a must read!

Extra special thank you to the reps at St. Martin's Griffin for a physical ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

This took me a while to finish and review but that's due solely in part to a reading slump (and life)

I adored this novel! My FIRST five-star novel for 2023. I took so long as although I had the E-ARC, I wanted to annotate my physical ARC copy. There were moments that were heartwarming and there were moments that were incredibly heart wrenching.

I did love the first installment in the series (5-star in 2022), and I'm usually so hesitant about sequels in companion novels but I'm thrilled to report that I adored this one as much as the first.

I would add a quote, although I typically don't like spoilers in my reviews. Just imagine a pink book full of complementing-pink tabs. I loved the setting, the individual character arcs, ALL the side characters, and of course, the sweet romance between Rose and Damian. Mind you, it does have its steamy moments and innuendos though that's all blended so well with romantic and comedic moments.

Vi and Linc (the first book's couple) were being setup as the ultimate power couple in their novel. Rose and Damian flipped that storyline when their character developments pivot them away from what they grown up being told to do and now reinventing themselves as adults for different paths.

I LOVE IT. I have no criticism other than playful criticism for being impatient for the next installment of this fantastic witchy-romcom series!

This is book 2 of the series and while I didn’t read the first book, it worked as a standalone in my opinion but I will be going back and getting book one and experiencing this all again!

I was really excited to read this novel after enjoying the first in the series but unfortunately it fell a little flat for me.

Things I Liked:
-The magical world that Asher has built for these novels is fantastic. There are so many different magical figures and the way they are able to freely use their abilities within their town and community is really awesome. Too many fantasy novels have too little magic in them, but that is not an issue here.
-Interactions between The Maxwell triplets are always my favorite, the sisters love each other so much. It was also great seeing Violet so much in this one.
-The chemistry between the two MCs was great and Rose finally got someone who puts her needs first.
-The soul hex and the history behind it. Loved how that all played out.
-Rose working at the sanctuary

What Didn’t Work For Me:
-I just really didn’t jive with the bounty hunter career path and the journey to get there. It just didn’t seem like it made sense for Rose and seemed really forced. This was a big part of the storyline so it really impacted my enjoyment of the novel.

The audiobook narrator was great, I think that’s why I was able to finish this book instead of DNFing it once the bounty hunting piece started taking shape. I will definitely pick up the next novel in this series, because I really want to know Olive’s story and I have a feeling Bax will be a big part of that!

Loved this supernatural novel. I don’t know why it took me so long to read it, but when I started I didn’t want to stop.

This supernatural romance was fun and charming with a dash of spicy. Should be read by an audience who loves the shows Supernatural, Buffy and Angel.

This is the first I have read in the series and I want to go back and read book one. I didn’t feel I needed to read the first, but I definitely want to!

I want to thank NetGalley, April Asher and St. Martin's Press, St. Martin's Griffin for the e-ARC of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are honest, my own and left voluntarily.

I've been on the witchy rom com book train for a while and I've been loving every second of it. This book is a beautiful shining star in it's genre and was wonderfully heartfelt. Every page brings a new emotion to life in it's enthralling read.

An adorable supernatural romance between a witch and half-demon forced to spend time together after a one night stand. This one has lots of witty banter, laughs, and some spice.

I didn’t realize this was the second in a series and haven’t read the first but I’m pretty sure they’re completely standalone.

I would have enjoyed a release closer to Halloween for this one!

Thank you SMP, April, and NetGalley for the ARC! I enjoyed participating in a book tour back in February around the time of publication on instagram for this one with Once Upon a Time Book Tours.

Really loving this series so far!! And I’m so so sooo excited for olives story!! Like I’ve been so found of Bax ever since he was introduced in the first book, and olive being a reader/ teacher! BUT ANYWAYS LETS TALK ABOUT ROSE AND DAMIAN!

I love how rose isn’t sure what she wants to do now, now that she’s free from being the next prima witch. It just shows that sometimes bad things happen to get where you’re truly supposed to go/be! Her love for the animals was honestly heart warming!! Damian my dude is so closed off and grumpy, which of course we all know he has a soft spot for rose ever since their one night stand at Vi’s and Linc’s party in book one! But of course we find out why Damian is the way he is due to a ex hex!

This was as great a book as the first in it's series. Its funny and the love story is great. The author has a way with words, and the sarcasm in the book made me laugh and smile throughout the entire book. This is a great book about figuring out who you are, what you want to do, female empowerment, and falling in love. I highly recommend. I can't wait for the next book.

Loved everything about this one and can’t wait for the next one!

Rose finding her own way was so inspiring, and watching her drag the other girls into shenanigans was so fun! And Damian was the perfect counter part to Rose.

This book was cute fun paranormal romance but a bit forgettable. We follow Rose Maxwell as she steps down as Prima from her coven. After years of having to do everything right Rose is looking for some fun. Enters Damien a half demon who runs a struggling animal shelter. After her one night stand Rose runs into some trouble and gets community service at No other than Damien’s animal shelter. We follow these two through hate to love. While this book was cute I was not a big fan of the pacing it felt slow at times for me and a little disjointed. Me personally I feel my taste a little more in the cozy paranormal romance so again this book was just not my cup of tea. I want to thank Netgalley and the publishers for a chance to read this book for an honest review.

Thank you Netgalley, April Asher, and publishers for gifting me a copy of Not Your Exes Hexes in return for my honest opinion.

3.5/5 stars

This is a cute super natural read. After Rose and Damian have a one-night stand neither can get the other out of their heads. When Rose is forced to complete community service she is also forced to spend time with Damian who runs the animal sanctuary. Their no strings attached relationship works for a while until they both start to have feelings for the other. But for Damian having feelings for someone could mean that his heart will break, literally due to a hex put on him by an ex-girlfriend. Will their love be strong enough to break the curse?

While I did enjoy reading this book I felt at times the author told us as much as showed us. For example "Taking Rose off guard, Damian hurled her into a hot, hard kiss that nearly melted her from the inside out." This does absolutely nothing for me, it doesn't make me think oh yeah what a hot kiss... I wanted to be able to close my eyes and put myself in the scene but it was just kind of anti-climatic.

While I'm glad that I read this book and would recommend it to supernatural romance fans I wouldn't pick it up to read it a second time.

A huge improvement from the first book especially in regards to the use of gender essentialist rhetoric. The writing style has greatly improved as well and all the world building quirks felt camp and intentionally silly instead of just awkward. I loved Rose and Damien and their FWB arrangement that grew into love. I thoroughly enjoyed Damien’s growth as a character as well. Can’t wait for Olive’s book!

Disclaimer I did not complete the first book in the series, so I was not aware of the first sister’s love story but it did not take away from my reading experience.

I really enjoyed this book! We have the sister who was the golden child witch and was supposed to follow in grandma’s footsteps finally free of that role and unsure what to do. When she makes a decision that causes chaos, she gets to be with the demon veterinarian who rocked her world as a one-night stand. It was nice to see the characters go from aggressive to friends with benefits then more. I liked how magic was causing a lot of the issues between them and it was something that had to solve if they wanted to continue. The ending was adorable! I think I can take guess how the third sisters book with go.

I loved reading Rose’s story. I was hooked from the beginning and devoured this in one day. The characters are so well developed and each relationship feels so organic it’s easy to become immersed in the Maxwell universe.

This book is laugh-out-loud funny with a big heart. Add in some spice with a grumpy demon and you have the perfect book.

I don’t have the best memory when it comes to books so I appreciate that this could be read as a stand-alone. It’s also not too difficult to follow along with the different paranormals introduced throughout the book. It’s a perfect mix of magic and mortals. I can’t wait to read Olive’s book.

You know, even though the world building is completely ridiculous in this series, I really love that it is at least internally consistently strange. I really enjoy the world Asher has created and I'm loving all of these characters. I can't wait to read book three in the series.

Not Your Ex's Hexes is about Rose, who spent her whole life training to be the Prima and now that she no longer has to fulfill that role, she's trying to figure out what exactly it is that she DOES want. What is it that she finds fulfilling? And the thing is, Rose doesn't know that. But I really loved watching her sort of figure that out, even if I think that thread got lost a bit toward the end. Anyway, part of the journey of figuring herself out leads to her being thrown together with Damian Adams, whom she had an explosive one night stand with as well. The two of them have great chemistry, but he is so... buttoned up, honestly, that it winds up being really fun watching him slowly come undone. There are so many hijinks in this book that the plot sort of takes over the characters at times, but in a way that was largely really enjoyable.

I liked both the audiobook and the physical format of reading this book and would recommend either option!

Another solid installment to April Asher’s witchy series. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Rose and Damian, and of course I love the witty banter!

I love this series and the Maxwell sisters. The half demon and witch are a wonderful pairing. I can’t wait to see what is in store for the youngest Maxwell sister when the next book is released.

Not Your Ex's Hexes is one of April Asher's Supernatural Singles books. The chemistry between Rose and Damian was great. The pacing moved pretty well. I loved the animal sanctuary setting! Whether you're ready for romantic witchy vibes or not, Asher's writing is worth it. This was cute, spicy, and a fun read.

In continuation of her “Supernatural Singles” series, author April Asher highlights another Maxwell sister, this time Rose. Of the three Maxwell sisters Olivia, Violet, Rose was destined to become the next Prima, or head witch of the Supernatural council. Until her sister Violet discovers she has magic, can the power and role as the next Prima be hers. Rose steps aside to let Violet rule and live life outside her family’s expectations. This leads her to execute risky behaviors regarding the safety of select horses at a nearby Animal Sanctuary. Rose is caught trying to release the horses as she believed they were treated harshly and is sentenced to community service. However the animals she believed were harmed had recently been rescued by the owner of the sanctuary. In a moment of happenstance, that owner is Damian Adams, a half-Demon Veterinarian, someone Rose had a one night stand with. Clue he’s grumpy she’s sunshine. As the novel progresses does Rose’s insight regarding fulfillment and worth increase. This shows in Rose undoubtedly becoming closer to Damian not only physically but emotionally. Can Damian learn to love and be loved in return ? Will the “hex”placed by Damian’s ex be the end of their story ? Stay tuned.Romantic tropes that were present in this book include but not exclude the following grumpy-sunshine and forced proximity. This novel is one that I could see fans of Charlene Harris vibe with as the Sookie Stackhouse novels were in mind when experiencing this story. I received an advanced readers copy of this book in exchange for an honest review of this novel. Out of five stars on goodreads I gave it a strong three out of five.
