I had mix feelings about What Have We Done. At times, I was entertained by it all and at others, I felt I was just waiting for something to happen. I do not feel like the "twist" at the end was anything too wild. I wish the end would have packed a punch a little more.

What I loved:
-Multiple POVs
-Action and tension between characters
-The beginning chapter draws you in immediately
-The premise of the novel was interesting

What I didn't love:
-The ending
-Dragged a bit in the middle
-The characters are a bit cliche / don't have a lot of depth

Overall, I give this a three stars for entertaining me enough :)

I enjoyed the concept for this book, and felt that while the execution was sometimes lacking, it was a good read.

The quick pace of the story made it easy to get into, and the thriller aspect gave it excitement. Parts of it continues to keep me guessing.

Overall, it was a good book, and I’d definitely be willing to read more of Alex’s work.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this one. Although I found this to be a refreshing, unique storyline, I almost felt like TOO much was going on because I found myself constantly questioning what exactly was going on. I think the vast cast of characters had a lot to do with it. I had a hard time keeping everyone straight and how they were all interrelated, especially with multiple POVs. This isn't normally an issue for me but I felt none of the minor characters were developed enough to have distinct voices. This was exciting and dramatic, but I really didn't connect with the story. I was so looking forward to this book after loving the night shift but this one fell flat. Not a ton of character development which made me not really care what happened to them. Some books work jumping into the drama but it did not for this story. There were too many characters and I struggled to follow who was what.

Review:
Hoping to escape the past, the children of Savior House went their separate ways and never thought they would look back. But the past always comes back to haunt us and the group ends up being hunted down by someone from their past.

The story started out strong and seemed to promise suspense and thrills throughout the novel, but it kind of fell flat for me. It ended up being a pretty slow burn and the big revelation was not what it could have been.

I normally like Alex Finley but this one was a complete miss for me :( It was really more of an action thriller than a mystery. Total bummer for me!

What Have We Done by Alex Finlay is a thriller about a group of adults who spent time in a group home together as kids. When in their group home as kids, something terrible happened and it begins to catch up with them when they are older. Someone is out to get them, but who and why? When they meet again when they’re adults to try to figure out what is going on and who is out to kill them– they realize that their secrets from long ago may be the reason why.

I loved the short chapters and varying perspectives in this book. It made for a very fast-paced read. I flew through the pages of this book. I really enjoyed each of the main characters in the book: Jenna, Nico and Donnie. I found their past stories and how they got to where they were to be very interesting.

I also enjoyed many of the twists throughout the story. I’ll be honest, I did not see the end coming. I am an avid reader of thrillers, so I love when I get tricked when reading a book. I also really loved the very ending of the book. I loved learning how all the characters ended up and what happened. I like to be informed on everything when I finish a book. I do not like loose ends and love that this book tied everything up in the epilogue.

I will say that some of the events that happen in this book are a bit outlandish and a bit unrealistic. This was probably the only downside to this book for me. I mean one of the main characters survived falling off of a cruise ship- which I mean I think would be almost impossible. I usually prefer books that are a bit more realistic, but I will say that this book is completely action-packed– more so than other thrillers that I read. I really couldn’t put it down despite all of the unrealistic parts– I was still packed.

I would definitely recommend this book for someone looking for an action-packed thriller. This is my second book by Finlay and I have to say I really love his writing style. His books fly by for me and I love the short chapters and varying perspectives. They are quickly becoming an auto-buy author for me!

Teenagers subjected to horrible things in a group home are left to deal with the trauma as adults. On top of all that someone wants them dead and now they must face the past to figure it all out.
This a fast paced, exciting, and will keep you on your toes.

Some kids from a group home form an unbreakable bond after they make an irreversible choice. They are brought together again years later as adults after they all become targets from murder.

I have read Finlay’s other two books and this was my least fave. I just didn’t really buy into it as the story felt scattered from the start, with so many POVs and loose threads floating around. There was just too much going on. The chapters were nice and short which I always appreciate. The twin assassins were also cool characters, but overall, meh.

This was my least favorite of Alex Finlay's books so far. It was fine for what it was, adrenaline action packed thriller. Not quite as complex or interesting as his previous two books. One of those where you need disband beliefs and go with the "out there" story. Comparable to the Bourne movies.

This book does the flashback and flash forward dual timelines...

In the flash back we have a group of kids in a group or foster home...the form a bond to stick together against the man who runs it and his bully of a son. There are girls who've left that no one can tell them where they went or find them...then there is a mysterious French woman who visits.

In the current time line 3 of the kids are adults in totally independent lives...Jenna is a stay at home mom to her two stepdaughters. She has a past that involved the French woman and mysterious work with lots of serious training. Donnie is the typical old rocker who is struggling with the death/murder of his best friend and another kid from the home. Nico is currently on a reality show. Around the same time someone tries to kill all three of them. They eventually team up to try to find out who and learn more than they were bargaining for from their past.

I liked this one more than his last book, Night Shift, but not more than his first book, Every Last Fear. It kept my attention and had some good twists.

I really enjoyed WHAT HAVE WE DONE! Alex Finlay is an auto-buy author for me. Something about his writing works for me - he's definitely a talented writer! The book revolves around a group of residents from a group home for parentless teenagers. Twenty-five years ago they did something unforgivable and they've held a secret close hold ever since. That it, until now as someone is trying to kill them one-by-one. This killer forces them to reunite and face the demons of their past.

The characters were well-developed and each of their backstories were so unique. While the overall story wasn't super climatic, it did make more a captivating and suspenseful story. I loved the short chapters and thought the individual stories weaved together well at the end. I would definitely recommend it!

What Have We Done is a dash of Riley Sager with a sprinkle of Karin Slaughter. This book I found to be the near perfect combination of two of my go to authors.

Is a bond once shared a bond that remains? Despite a shared trauma a group of young ones eventually find themselves separated and go on to live their own lives. Eventually life would find a way to bring them back together in the most unwanted ways of ways.

I overall enjoyed this. I did find some parts hard to follow and would have to back track in order to be able to follow along. Other than that I enjoyed the unravelling of these characters lives.

What Have We Done is an action-packed thriller. I really enjoyed the first 60% or so, but as a it continued it started to drag. I felt like it could have been wrapped up in a shorter, more concise way. It started feeling convoluted when the twins were introduced, and I had trouble really feeling like the characters’ motivations were convincing. Overall it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t my favorite of Finlay’s novels.

The ending fell a little flat for me, but overall I enjoyed the read.

Alex Finlay really knows how to write edge of your seat thrillers and this book will have your heart thumping throughout!

Jenna, Nick and Donnie spent a few years together while growing up as foster kids in the group home called "Saviour House" which was not anything close to.that name. All they wanted was to be free from that place and the abuse that took place there. When three of their other friends go missing the kids decide to take matters into their own hands and promise one another to never tell another soul about their plans to save themselves.

Twenty-five years later Jenna is very happy and finally content with her life when she receives a cryptic message on her cell phone threatening her family unless she fully cooperates with the anonymous sender.

Nick is currently a well-known reality show producer and finds himself in a situation where he might not make it out alive after receiving a non threatening phone message.

Then there is Donnie a now aging rock star who lived the high life of fame and fortune but now his life is limited to gigs where he can get them and currently he and his band are performing on a cruise ship. Donnie can only enjoy himself if he' s high on alcohol or drugs so when a beautiful woman asks for his autograph he has no idea that she wants more than Donnie is prepared to understand or voluntarily give.

The three old friends must somehow meet up to find out who is the mastermind behind their death threats and why after twenty-five years of silence. After continuously being stalked by unknown predators the trio realizes that even though their past has always haunted them they finally understand that now, the devil has arrived to collect his due!

What an outstanding and cleverly written this thriller was. The action along with the twists and turns that never stops and I would find myself holding my breath at different times. The tension, suspense, never ending mystery and thrills were so entertaining and all the characters were engaging while being realistic. Several subplots occurring throughout the story had myself brainstorming while being on edge trying to figure out who was behind all the dangerous puzzles. I really enjoyed the balance of the dual time lines which made the characters so relatable when connecting their well described past lives as kids to what they suffered before, during and after living at the "Saviour House". Their lives as children was heartbreaking at times but having each other back then gave them the only bits of happiness and safety that they needed for survival.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more by this author. I highly recommend this novel to all dark, suspense loving thriller readers!

There is a lot of characters to keep up with. My favorite was Jenna, hands down! While i enjoyed The Night Shift better than What Have We Done by Alex Finlay, it was still a good book and would recommend if you enjoyed his previous books.

Twenty-five years ago, five teenagers formed an unbreakable bond when they shot and buried someone while living at Savior House, an abusive group home for wayward teens. Although they didn't keep in contact, they've all gone on to lead successful lives: a drunk rock star, a judge, a tech billionaire, a gambling-addicted tv producer, and a former assassin. When the judge is murdered and assassination attempts are made on all the others, they are forced into a reunion none of them wanted to find the killer.

What Have We Done is a non-stop action-hero thriller. The plot was utterly ridiculous; one girl was basically just Black Widow from the Marvel comics. Is it great literature? Of course not. The character development was terrible and the narrative had absolutely no nuance. However, I will say the high action keeps you flipping pages, so if you want something mindlessly entertaining, What Have We Done will do.

This novel is intense! There is so much happening from the beginning that hooks the reader in. I enjoyed the book and found it to be a quick read.

The ending was a bit much and I feel like there were a couple of plot holes. However, I read an advanced reader copy so it’s possible those may have been cleaned up in the final draft.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. The characters were well developed and I definitely had strong feelings about whether I liked each one or not. The setting was creepy in just the right way. There should be a trigger warning listed as there are instances of child abuse - more implied than detailed, but still important to note.

I couldn't put this book down! This book griped me from the beginning and took me on a wild ride. Multi-POV story. Donnie, Jenna, Nico, Ben and Art all meet when they are kids at the Savior House foster home. They all have had a rough life in one way or another. Years later they are reunited and not in a good way. Jenna and Donnie's story was my favorite, but I liked how it nicely came together. I stayed up late finishing this one.
