Unfortunately this author is not for me. This was the second book I’ve tried to read by this author and I just could not get into it. This book felt like a bad action movie with too many characters. DNF 40%

What Have We Done is a twisty suspense. It took me a bit to get the rhythm but when it takes off it really takes off. It’s wasn’t until I was well into reading it that I realized the depth of the backstories and how deeply the pieces are beautfully entwined. I enjoyed the characters - the friendships, the connections; the writing style was effortless when it should be and heavier when it needed to be. The title is perfection. Overall, a great thriller.

I have loved all of Alex Finlay’s books, but unfortunately this one wasn’t my favorite. It wasn’t until around 70% of my way through the book that I felt like I started to see how the characters interlaced histories were playing out. I would be fine with that except for the fact that it made the story feel more chaotic than was necessary.
I will say, I did enjoy the ending and the last 30% of the book held my interest so much that I initially felt very satisfied when I finished the book. However, as I thought about it, I remembered how long it took me to read the book because it just wasn’t clicking for me.
I look forward to his next novel!

This was my first book by this author but I will be looking for more. I really enjoyed this action packed thriller. Thanks to NetGalley for the privilege to read and review this book.

I really enjoyed this one! I was captivated during the first third and the last third. The middle was a little slower but still great. I am definitely going to be reading more Alex Finlay books. I love the writing style and the different POVs were easy to follow and left a lot to suspense.

Oh this was fun! These short chapters whiz us through a story weaving past and present together.
We follow a group of friends that come back together as adults. An assassin, a rockstar, a judge and a reality show star. We’ve got twins and big bad bosses. I know this sounds like it could be weird and confusing but it works!
Auto-buy author! I have love the last two by this author (this and Night Shift) and now need to catch up and read Every Last Fear!

Star rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book was so much fun. I love a fast paced, action thriller and this one really delivered. Told from multiple POV’s with alternating timelines, it was interesting to see how Finlay wove the story together and where it ultimately ended up. I was kept deliciously off kilter and was constantly intrigued by what would happen next. Finlay writes an intelligent and well plotted thriller that is impossible to put down and I’m already anticipating his next novel. A dark, fun, smart, rollercoaster of a read!

I love books that are descriptive and this was it for me. I enjoyed this one but found myself feeling confused on the plot and where the story was headed. I caught myself zoning out. There was just to much going on and not much character development.

First and foremost, thank you Minotaur Books for the gifted copy!
I was very excited for this book, especially because I really loved Finlay's last book. Overall, What Have We Done was okay, but I found it to be relatively anticlimactic. I was expecting it to be a bit darker, so I was confused by the ending trajectory.
It was a very intricate plot, but at times, it felt like it was too confusing and there were too many different events happening at once.
But, I think others will find this one a quick, popcorn thriller read!

While this book was fun to read, it left me bored at certain parts and asking for more. The way that the characters lives intertwined was clever and their backstory made it interesting. A fun read.

This was a nail-biter and was almost impossible to put down. One of the first things that appealed to me was the bond that the characters had as a result of being foster kids at the same group home and the abuse they suffered there. As adults ,they all have very different lives but one thing in common; someone is trying to murder them. This brings them together to find out who and why has made them targets. Equal parts mystery and thriller and I enjoyed how not all of the pieces came together until the end.

This was boring to me. And the switches back and forth were hard to follow. I really enjoyed The Night Shift but this didn’t do it for me.

This was a phenomenal thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. Hooking you straight from the start, this book had you guessing. I will definitely be a fan of this author from here on out!

Told in third person with multiple narrators, this thriller follows several adults who spent time in a group home together as children and now find that the past is not only revisiting them but may be killing them. The short chapters gave the book a fast-paced thrilling feel, but I found the characters to be only mildly interesting on the surface. An entertaining read with not much depth and somewhat predictable if you read this genre often.
Thank you to Netgalley and Minotaur Books for a copy provided for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read the ARC of What Have We Done written by Alex Finlay. This book was about a group of teenagers from a boarding home called Savior House and what they went through during their brief time together. They felt forced to commit a crime when they were younger, and this crime has now come back to haunt them as adults. They have all been able to create adult lives for themselves they are content with… a rockstar, a reality TV star, famous judge, multimillionaire mogul, a stepmother and wife, but it seems like everything they’ve worked so hard for is about to come crashing down as a contract killer is hired to kill them all to cover up and put an end to everyone’s dark past. This story had so many twists and turns, and lots of things happened that I didn’t expect. I throughly enjoyed this book and rated it five stars! I would recommend it to anyone looking for a fast-paced, thriller with an unpredictable ending!

Thank you St. Martin's Press, Netgalley and Minotaur Books for my ARC of what What Have We Done. This book was a little corny for my liking. I appreciated the dual POVs and the short chapters with Donnie, Jenna and Nico but that's really it. None of them were very likable. I'll give the other Alex Finlay books a chance (this was my first and reviews say the other novels are better!)

Thank you to Alex Finlay, Minotaur Books-St. Martin's Press, and NetGalley for providing me with an advance ebook copy of What Have We Done for me to read and review. Whew, what a wild ride of a mystery-thriller! This story was crafted so beautifully using multiple points of view and multiple timelines that it kept me twisting and turning all the way to the end. There was constant switching between perspectives which I found sometimes slowed the story down. The number of very diverse characters kept each point of view so unique and interesting with each person playing a role much different than you might first expect. This is the first book by Finlay that I have read and I will definitely be reading more. His writing style is relatable and truly enjoyable.

Alex does it again! Master of suspense, I did not expect the ending and I’m here for it!
Growing up in a group home where everyone has lost their parents somehow and someway, leaves these kids relying on adults in charge. Growing up you tend to have secrets but, in this group, secrets are even deeper. These are secrets you carry to the grave. Twenty five years later three people are still forger changed by what occurred that night.
I enjoyed this newest one for Alex Finlay. I thought it had the perfect amount of suspense and mystery, the characters were easy to get to know and understand. I loved the shortness of the chapters. Being in school, I read between classes and don’t have time for a 20 page chapter. This was refreshing and perfect. I’m giving it 4 stars! Really enjoyed and definitely recommend!

Thank u for an arc in exchange for an honest review!
Im a fan of Alex finlay previous novels but this one wasnt my favorite.
3 people who have a secret past they shared from living at a group home are being hunted. Sounds like a promising storyline yet…. It wasnt working for me.
This is told from multiple pov and honestly becomes a bit confusing and drawn out after a while & i started to lose interest.

25 years ago, Jenna, Donnie, and Nico were best friends living in a group home called Savior House. The three were split up after the home was shut down when several kids disappeared.
Jenna is now a stay at home mom with a surprising past, Donnie is a washed up rock star struggling with addiction, Nico produces reality TV and is having trouble keeping up with gambling debts.
They thought their time at Savior House - and the secret they carry - was behind them ...until they discover someone wants the Savior House surviviors dead.
I have read and loved every published Alex Finlay novel. This one is only a soft pick for me. It doesn't have the strong plot and characters of the previous; the suspension of disbelief required was reaching a little too far for me, the action and the villains felt sort of cheesy here unfortunately.
Thanks to Minotaur Books and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review. What Have We Done was released March 7, 2023.
