It’s so refreshing to find an essential oil book that’s not trying to promote MLM companies and that’s written by actual experts with professional training and decades of experience. This is a very thorough book that gives great information on types of essential oils, properties of each, what they’re good for, what they blend well with and much more. Recipes are included to make your own products. Beautiful illustrations add to the charm. Recommended.

One thing I know for sure about essential oils is that lavender is very effective in soothing and healing insect bites, having used it many times for sand fly bites that usually takes weeks or even months to heal if left untreated. With a couple of dabs of the magical liquid, the site no longer itches.

I was therefore quite excited to get a copy of this title for review. It’s reassuring to know that it was written by authors who are considered experts in the field of aromatherapy. It’s hard to believe that the oils can do all those things, to be honest. But it’s definitely worth a try.

I like that this book is practical and easy to refer to, giving you all the basic essential information on how to use the oils, when it is safe to do so as well as details about thirty-five essential oils.

It doesn’t hurt that the book has beautiful illustrations throughout.

4 and a half stars for me.

The Aromatherapy Companion by Jade Shutes and Amy Galper is a beautiful book on the important topic of aromatherapy. Aromatherapy can heal and uplift mood and also give joy. And these two deliver a book that does that and more.

They give sections such as Circulatory System, Digestive System, and Musculosketual System but I wish they would have had a section on the very important relating to essential oils, the Nervous System. Many people have trauma in their background which affects the nervous system and for many of us aromatherapy and essential oils to calm the nervous system so just feedback that this seemed like a huge oversight in my opinion.

But where the book lacked in that area it made up where so many books fail. The text boxes were glorious these beautiful different color watercolor backgrounds with perfect font choices in them. Also the art is beautiful, I am one who tends to lean toward photographs over art in reference books but this one is just top-notch art so fitting for this wonderful book.

As someone where aromatherapy is a huge part of my life since I have CPTSD and it has been a big healing tool for me also as someone who teaches plants and has extensive knowledge of plants, I thought this book was comprehensive and well done. In my opinion, it is a huge oversight to not have a nervous system category when talking about essential oils and aromatherapy but that is my feedback that I would go and change that. There is writing about psyche/emotions but it such be more than that. Why shouldn't the nervous system be given as much attention as the digestive system?

There is an index on the plants which is very helpful and also how to blend, how to store all the good info that should be included when talking about essential oils. Also beautiful cover.

I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher Quarto and Fair Winds for the opportunity to read and review The Aromatherapy Companion by Jade Shutes and Amy 'Galper.
