A regency romance novel, Scotland's Melody follows the wealthy Melody Foster as she strikes out on her own after refusing an arranged marriage. She follows the man she loves to London, but quickly finds that she has been mislead. In London, Melody is forced to grow up quickly and learn to fend for herself amongst a cast of old and new friends, as well as to trust her heart once more.
In all, Katie Stewart Stone's Scotland's Melody was a lovely, fast read with thoughtful characters and historical world building. I really enjoyed it, especially because of the role Scotland plays in the tale.
This was my first time reading a book by this author. And I had no idea what I was missing! This book was outstanding! And it had some of my favourite themes. Running away from home to become a servant, hidden identities, being on the run. How could this book not be a hoot with all of those in there?!
Melody and Cameron are the cutest couple. They’re similar! Most of the time we see how opposites attract, but here we get to see how similars attract too!! There is so much to both of their characters and I would hate to give any of this beautiful story away, but just know that you’ll be completely invested in seeing those two find eachother.
This story is a bit of a slow burn, but the tension between the two makes it build naturally. Plus! We have a side romance, and it’s really cute and hopefully the next book in this series! Because best friend romances are beloved by all right?! It’s promising to be a very good story.
Thank you NetGalley and Covenant Communications for the complimentary e-arc in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.
Content: clean
Romance: kissing
Violence: mild; attempted kidnapping, minor injury, nothing frightening or intense.
Language: none
To say I loved this book is almost putting it mildly!
Worth more than just 5 stars!
I enjoyed it so very much - on many levels.
This book was well written, has excellent characters and engaging storyline. It kept me eagerly turning pages right to the very end (which was great too!).
The romance is clean, with great kissing scenes.
No bad language.
I love this author's writing style. Her stories flow well, with good descriptions, dialogue, and chemistry between Melody and Cameron.
Cameron... I really love his character!! Kind, charming, and full of surprises, and of course handsome, with a delicious Scottish brogue... sigh...
I was given a copy of this book, but am not required to give a review. This review is my own opinion, and is gladly given because this book captivated me, and was entertaining.
I totally look forward to this author's next book, and I highly recommend this one!!
Melody Foster flees her father’s house when she is ordered to marry a man she’s never met and throws her lot in with the footman she thought she loved. Betrayed once again, she finds friends to aid her: first, her old governess and then Cameron Findlay, a handsome stranger who takes her on as a servant in their household. Attraction flares between Melody and Cameron, but can she trust her heart when she has made so many mistakes before?
Well. I did enjoy the description of Scotland once the story moves there. I think that was all that I really enjoyed about this story. I thought I would get a main character who had valid reasons to run away from home, but I honestly thought she was a young, naive girl who needed to grow up. And she didn’t grow up that much through the story.
There were so many contradictions in Melody’s actions and thoughts. There are flashbacks to the fluttering feeling she gets when she makes eye-contact with the footman who betrays her and then there are scenes where the same thing happens with Cameron. Instead of being alarmed and worried by this, she is happy. It is only a little later that she begins to worry about being attracted to her.
I pushed through to the end, but almost quit several times. Readers who are looking for just a light, fluffy read may enjoy this than I did.
I enjoyed this book so much!
I LOVE mistaken/hidden identity books.
I thought the characters were believable and likable.
I thought the author did a great job with the Scottish brogue. Just enough so you know they’re Scottish, but not so much that you can’t figure out what they’re saying.
I was sad when this book came to an end but I’m hopeful that there will be another book for Cameron’s sister.
I loved this story! Makes me want to go to Scotland right now! The author did a fantastic job with her characters and showing what real love really is all about! I loved the friendships in this story! That was almost as awesome as the love story!
Scotland’s Melody by Katie Stewart Stone is a sweet regency romance by a new to me author. I enjoyed the storyline and the premise. I see a lot of promise in Stone’s future stories as she finds her stride as an author. Her creativity is present, but there is still a lot of tell me, rather than show me in her writing. I enjoyed the characters, but I don’t always appreciate the deceit to get to the truth. Cam and Melody work through it and are able to find their happy ending and I enjoyed the sweetness of it. The pace moves along just right and the setting is beautiful. I do look forward to future books by this author.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.
After devouring Scotland's Melody, I eagerly await upcoming books from Katie Stewart Stone. This intriguing tale of a young woman who refuses to allow others to dictate her life becomes a tale of caution against stubbornness and fleeing difficult circumstances.
I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.
Cameron and his sister Elsie were my favorite characters in this story. I liked Melody but I got a bit frustrated with her. I did love her spunk and can do attitude. I really enjoyed this book and felt like the storyline pulls you in from the very first page.
I really enjoyed this one!!!
Melody was running towards something she wanted, away from a forced marriage and towards one she wanted, but learned it was not what she thought.
Then while literally running for her life, she ran into a carriage of a man who was exactly what she didn't know she needed!
I loved the twists and turns of this story. I loved the banter! I loved the love of family and friends!
AND SCOTLAND.
Definitely recommend this sweet, fun romance!
Melody's father has picked out a husband for her - a man she's never met, and worse still, a Scot! Since she's already fallen in love with one of the footmen and refuses to let her father dictate to her, she stands up to him and is disowned - to which she responds by running off to London to meet Richard. Unfortunately, when she arrives, she finds that he only wanted her for her dowry, and now has other plans to make money of her. An unexpected meeting when she hides from Richard in an unknown carriage starts her on a new path - a path that leads to Scotland with a new friend and her brother, the man Melody finds herself falling for, though she refuses to acknowledge it. Can she learn to trust again after Richard's betrayal? And when secrets come to light, will she be able to look past her feelings to see the truth?
I wanted to like this, but at times it was somewhat of a struggle to finish it. While the story in itself was fine, I never really connected with any of the characters, particularly Melody. The writing felt like too much telling and not enough showing, and I felt like many of Melody's actions and feelings didn't make sense. Other than that, the writing was reasonably good, with few or no typos and only the (very) occasional incorrect word usage. The descriptions were also quite appealing - I'd love to visit Scotland. Nevertheless, I doubt I'll be reading more by the author. I suggest prospective buyers try reading a sample, because the things that bothered me might not be a problem for them.
Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.
I was pulled into this story right from the beginning and couldn't wait to see where Melody ended up after her decisions led her down a road she wasn't expecting.
I liked how the author opened the book! Great way to grab the reader's attention and set the stage. There were flashbacks that the author included in the story which I really enjoyed getting a better understanding of what had happened prior to the opening of the book. Especially since we saw it as a whole scene instead of the main character just explaining it to another character.
I loved the theme of Fate in this book and how it all played into the story and how the story played out. It left me smiling and very happy!
Melody was a character who definitely knew her mind and what she thought she wanted. But after making some decisions that didn't quite pan out how she thought they would, she became more guarded and unsure of herself and what love truly is. I liked how the author addressed that aspect of the story and the tension that it brought to the story.
Cameron and his sister are definitely some of my favorite characters in this book. I loved their sibling relationship and their fun wit and banter. They're very quick on their feet. Combine them with Melody and you get several great scenes! I was laughing and smiling and doing some swooning as well.
There's a sweet and slow love story that will touch your heart and have you cheering for these two! I loved how the title fit into the book as well. And all the Scotland scenes! Be still my heart! I need a vacation to Scotland pronto!!!
I hope you enjoy it if you pick it up!
Content: Clean.
I received a copy from the publisher, Covenant Communications, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
Happy Reading!!!
Scotland’s Melody
This book was such a pick me up. I loved the main character Melody. She’s made some mistakes and she knows it, yet she just keeps moving forward. In a time and place where women don’t have much control over their lives, Melody wants the choice in who she will marry. She wants love, not just convenience. When her father arranges a marriage for her, in Scotland of all places, she decided to find her own way with love.
Circumstances land her into a situation where she ends up spending time and getting to know a Scotsman, Cameron. Their relationship grows in trust and interest, however they are both keeping secrets from each other. I loved that Cameron and Melody didn’t always see eye to eye, but they always addressed the problems once they had calmed down. Working through their disagreements peacefully created a deeper and more mature foundation for their relationship that I really liked.
This book had plenty of action, romance, and character growth to keep me hooked. I truly loved it and can’t wait to look into other books by this author.
Scotland's Melody has a very rambunctious female main character. Melody is nineteen, stubborn, naive, and running away with a man who she thinks she's in love with. Her father disowns her after Melody proclaims she's not marrying the stranger from Scotland that her father chose for her. Melody soon learns that "her love" was fake and he's after her and her family's money.
This book has Melody running away a lot from men, her family, and her feelings. I truly loved Scottish brother and sister, Cam and Elsie. {I'm excited to know that Elsie's story will be the next one written. She had quite the personality and spirit.} They took Melody in when she needed help and taught her some things about life too. Soon Cam is falling for Melody but there are trust issues. I felt for Melody as she had already had her heart broken once and was scared to love again.
The big "mystery" is soon revealed that causes much angst but is resolved well. Melody changes so much from the beginning of the story as an impetuous girl to a young woman. It's a fun journey to see her take and also it's wonderful once the setting settles in Scotland. One of my favorite scenes takes place with Cam reading a poem to Melody. I found a video of a Scotsman reading the poem and his voice makes your toes curl. I included this video with my review on my blog if you are interested.
Overall this was a sweet story, easy to read, and I loved how Melody and Cam finally came together.
I was captured from the very beginning. The story starts off with a lot of action and suspense as Melody flees an arranged marriage, is cut off from her father and in love with a footman. As the story continues you just become more and more intrigued. The adorable cute meet of Melody and Cameron, was the best. I throughly enjoyed the characters of Cameron and his sister Elise. The middle of the story sagged a little. I thought some drama would have perked it up, but the author chose to make us wait a bit longer. The ending was well worth it. A full HEA ending with a great tease for the next book!! Can’t wait! I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This is my first book by Katie Stewart Stone and it definitely won’t be the last! From the get go, the story starts off with a bang. The main character, Melody is running for her life after her decision to run off with the footman instead of agreeing to an arranged marriage proves not only unwise but dangerous. Cut off by her father with nothing to recommend her she finds her old governess in London and is taken in. Instead of relying solely on her governess for support, she applies herself to learning to become a servant.
After trying to escape Richard, the evil footman, again, she winds up in the carriage of a wealthy man from Scotland. Cameron and his delightful sister Elise rescue her from the situation and take her in as a servant. As Melody becomes closer to the family, she can’t help but like both of them. They show her the love and acceptance she’s always yearned for. But, what happens when Cam shows he might have feelings for her? Will she run away or trust her heart which has led her astray before?
Cameron is such a swoonworthy hero! I loved his Scottish brogue, his witty repartee, his romantic side, and his patience with Melody. He does withhold some key information from her which adds unneeded complication to the situation, but his motives are understandable. Elise was an absolute delight. She’s such a kind, spunky, open hearted person and I loved her passionate response to life. I can’t wait to read her story.
Melody is a character who grew on me. The story is told from her point of view, so we’re only getting her observations. She’s headstrong, stubborn, passionate, and impetuous. She definitely learns some hard lessons as the story progresses. I understood her need for caution in developing a relationship with Cam, but I really felt sorry for him with her push/pull responses. I did admire her ability to make the best out of her situations. Instead of complaining about her fate, she accepts responsibility. I also loved the messages of family reconciliation and forgiveness.
The castle in Scotland is a dream! I loved the hidden passageways, the gardens, and the beautiful descriptions of the setting. I also enjoyed the poetry, harp playing, and other unique aspects of the story. There’re elements of mystery and danger, hidden identity, as well as sizzling romance clean Regency romance fans will enjoy. While it’s more modern than traditional Regency, it completely drew me in and I can’t wait to read more, especially with that epilogue! I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.
I really enjoyed this story. It pulls you in from the beginning. Melody was definitely foolish and naive in the beginning, but I appreciated that she didn't give in when things were hard, but tried to find ways to move on. She also took responsibility for her actions. There were times I really wanted to know what Cam was thinking, but the author did a good job describing his actions and facial expressions that I had a pretty good idea. Their romance was sweet. I am hoping from the epilogue that this will become a series and we'll get to read Elsie's story next.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through Netgalley and this is my honest review.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Katie Stewart Stone for providing me with a complimentary digital ARC for Scotland’s Melody coming out January 10, 2023. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Independent, strong willed Melody Foster has no desire to marry the man her father had chosen for her. She wishes to marry for love. After an argument with her father, Melody flees to London, to find Richard and start her new life with him. However, Richard isn’t the romantic young man who once worked on her father’s estate. He only wanted her for her father’s money. Heartbroken, Melody escapes his evil pursuits many times. With the help of her former governess, she finds herself at the home of a noble Scotsman and his kind sister. Will she be able to escape Richard’s manipulation and find the love of her life?
Overall I loved this book! It was a sweet romance. I think parts of it were a little predictable, but I really enjoyed the dialogue. Cameron and Melody had some witty banter and chemistry. I think Richard was annoying and would’ve liked to see less of him throughout the book. I also loved that Scotland was featured in the story and that Cameron and his family were Scottish. I think it added some dimension to the story. The ending seems to be a little open-ended. Perhaps there will be a second book.
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys wholesome regency romance!
Yes - read it!
This was a fun read. I enjoyed the plot - the publishers lay it out better than I can. Liked the characters, what they were willing to do for the personal beliefs. There were a couple of surprised that I enjoyed.
It was just a plain, old, good romantic read!!
I received an ARC from Netgalley to prepare my honest review.
Scotland’s Melody written by Katie Stewart Stone is a sweet wholesome read with a little intrigue added in. It is a story about family relationships, forgiveness, and learning to trust
This is a book I really enjoyed reading. The story line was a fun idea, though the execution was a little unrealistic at times.
The main characters in this story are Cameron, the sweet and patient hero, Melody, the feisty and determined heroine., and my favorite character Elsie, Cameron’s little sister. The chemistry between Cameron and Melody was great. Cameron is an ultimate gentleman, always loving and patient I loved him as the hero of the story. I also liked the character of Melody most of the time. She definitely had some growing up to do and wasn’t times really frustrating. Elsie for me stole the show. I loved her character. She was sweet and caring and a lot of fun! The end of this book hints at Elsie getting a story of her own which I am really excited for!
This book is a fun, easy read with great romance and also a little suspense! I recommend it to all regency lovers.
