This is a gorgeous, authentic Chinese cookbook with wonderful plant based dishes that are relatively simple with easy to source ingredients. I wanted to try almost all of the recipes, which is rare for me. Zhu uses a lot of tofu so it won’t work well for those who don’t eat soy but it’s easy to substitute.
All of the recipes use real foods like mushrooms, cauliflower, seitan and eggplant for the star, not processed fake foods. There’s a wide variety of delicious sauces and flavors. Desserts are included.
Just about every recipe includes a photo. No nutritional information is provided. Ordinarily I’d deduct a star for that but it’s such an exemplary cookbook otherwise that I let it slide. The publisher should take note that many of us will simply not purchase a cookbook without nutritional info though. So many people need to track sodium, sugar, calories, protein, fats, carbs, etc that it really needs to be standard for all new cookbooks.
I read a temporary digital arc of this book for review.
Great recipes, easy to follow, delicious food. Very helpful book, everyone who like Chinese food should have a copy.
Who's don't like Chinesse food, expecially the takeout from our local restaurant. For long time most of us enjoy the oriental taste, perfect combination between proteins and veggies and fastcook. But although Chinesse home-cooked look intimidating but actually some of recipes not too difficult to copy at home. At least with this way we can sure about the quality materials, adjust the taste and make it healthier.
Chinesse Homestyle Cooking provided readers with alot mouthwatering dishes that combine tradisional recipe with western familiar ingredients. The bonus is all of it plants based. For meat lover I think recipes from this book will still work, just mixed it with your fave proteins. This book provided list of seasoning, main ingredient explanation, some knives technics and several types dishes. Every single recipes are designed to bring out all the best taste from the mix. I never saw some vegetarian foods look so tempting. I am sure will try one or many recipes from here and improve my cooking skills haha...
Thank you Netgalley and Rock Point from Quarto Publishing Group for provided my copy. I am grateful and my thoughts are my own. Chinesse Homestyle Cooking will release at 20 September 2022.
It's a very nice cook book. But this is, just for those who won't pay attention, plant based. Nothing wrong with that and I liked most of the recipes. The Veggie dumplings look delicious and I can't wait to try those.
The book includes pictures and some how-to step-by-step pictures as well. Lots of categories to see in the book: sauces, apps and salads, favorite takeout, dim sum, noodles and soups, tofu, seasonal mains, seasonal sides, and sweet treats.
Lots of delicious foods in this cookbook that I can't wait to try out. This book makes Chinese cooking seem more approachable then I previously thought it was.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review!
Yum! The recipes in this book are absolutely scrumptious! Stupidly, I didn’t realise this was a purely plant-based cookbook, so as a meat eater, I thought I’d be disappointed- I wasn’t. The book is full of delicious recipes, all of which can be done at home. The focus is on traditional Chinese flavours, ingredients, and dishes, rather than the more Westernised Chinese takeaway style dishes. Each recipe has clear step by step instructions, and the accompanying photographs are just mouth-wateringly good. Would definitely recommend..
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group – Rock Point and Netgalley for an eARC of this book to read and review.
This is packed with amazing, tasty sounding recipes. Being a plant based recipe book it has so many wonderful and tempting dishes to have a go at eating less meat, but at the same time they would be easy enough to add meat or fish to if you wanted to adapt them!
