I really wanted to love this book, but I didn't. It was okay, but not great. I don't know if JRW's writing has changed or if my reading tastes have changed.
I just didn't enjoy Kane or the heroine. It seemed so far fetched that I just couldn't love it.
This was an article I wrote for Fresh Fiction on BDB and the Prison series.

The Viper was amazing! There was an incredible build as the story unfolded, histories were learned, and details came to life. I loved all the drama and action and the truly remarkable characters. It was intense and entertaining all rolled into one. Exceptional read!
Kane and Nadya were fantastic. I loved the bond they had and how their connection grew into so much more. My heart hurt for them as I learned their history and all they had endured. Kane was wonderful and I loved his transformation over the course of the story. Nadya was a force and so much stronger than she seemed, I loved her. These two had a sweet, slow-burn romance happening under extreme conditions and I loved the development as they came together. I also loved how the title of the book came into play, all that was revealed, and what that meant for Kane and for Nadya as well.
I loved the story happening with Apex. He seemed to be this hard vampire and I loved seeing who he truly was and what secrets he had. I’m digging Mayhem, he's still a bit of a mystery to me and I am hoping he gets his own story somewhere in the BDB world. I was thrilled that Lucan had a good part in this and more of his story was shared as well. There were so many great moments with so many different characters, it filled me up. From the prison camp to new characters, to ones I already loved, it was just super fulfilling for me. In true J. R. Ward style, there were several stories happening with multiple POVs and I thought it flowed well. I was always looking forward to who I would hear from next.
There was so much happening the entire time and I was excited while reading. It was thrilling! I loved learning all the meaty details of the backstories, different connections, and how everything was woven together. There were twists and turns along the way and revelations that made this a totally addicting read. There was so much drama and action throughout, I was loving the fight scenes and intensity and having it all build into a stellar ending, which was everything I could have wanted.
I am really hoping there will be more books in the Prison Camp series and I am eagerly awaiting to see what will be next. There was definite closure in The Viper for Kane and Nadya and there’s everything that transpired at the end, but there is still a lot to look forward to with other characters with the way certain things were left as well as what’s happening with the prison camp, the possibilities are endless. Bring on Apex, bring on Mayhem. I need more!
