*Many thanks to Marcy McCreary, CamCat Books, and NetGalley for arc in exchange for my honest review.*
I enjoy cold cases books, and this offering seemed more than intriguing. No spoliers here, so suffice to say that the former and present father-daughter detective duo join forces to uncover the truth about the 40-year-old disappearance of Trudy who is found to be alive. This makes the cold case intriguing, however, I admit that there was too much of detail and too many characters appearing for me not to lose track of the plot.
Enjoyable yet not riveting, narration superb though.
I really enjoyed this story. I read a lot of mystery/thriller novels and I liked that this one was different in that it was almost like a story inside a story. Rather than just describing what happened, it was describing the main characters search and discovery of what happened. The story unfolds because the characters pursue the truth - and I thought this was a unique concept. I gave 4 stars because there were some actions of the characters that I felt were a little dated. Would absolutely recommend this to others.
This was an enjoyable audiobook. The mystery was compelling and the dad-daughter duo was a nice change from the standard potential-love-interests combo we usually see. There were parts about the daughter's job that felt distracting but those loose ends do get wrapped in by the conclusion. Did this one stand out as a particularly compelling book? Not really, but it was enjoyable and well-narrated.
Thank you to NetGalley and CamCat Books for this ARC!
I really enjoyed this very intriguing 40 year old mystery and I had fun attempting to solve it along with the main character. I could picture the old hotel in the Catskills and the beauty of that area in bygone days. I loved the relationship Susan (MC) had with her dad and that he was allowed to help her with her investigation. The way the author tied all the loose ends together brought the story to an amazingly beautiful conclusion that left me feeling totally satisfied.

Trudy Solomon disappeared in 1978. Detective William Ford, a well respective police officer in Monticello, New York Police Department was obsessed in trying solving this case. Now 2018 - forty years later, Detective Susan Ford is on the case. She is the daughter of Detective Ford who is living in a retirement home and Susan is out to crack this case for her father and find out what happened to Trudy all those years ago.
I was curious. I love good mystery thriller but not a fan of detective stories ~ does that even make sense?
In most case, I find their nasty language annoying – however, I am sure if your job is with nasty criminals one would talk like them!
Story had me curious so I hung in there.
Want to thank NetGalley and CamCal Audiobooks for this eGalley.

Marcy McCreary’s “The Disappearance of Trudy Solomon” is a fun detective story with a strong female lead. Detective Susan Ford, while embroiled in a racially sensitive shooting investigation, is dragged into one of her father’s cold cases. Together they work to figure out what happened to the titular coffee shop waitress who disappeared forty years earlier. Her boyfriend, another cop, is also along for the ride. The case is made all the more difficult because of the family that is the focus of the investigation: the Roths, former Catskills hotel royalty with a complicated dynamic.
There was a lot to enjoy about this book. The shifting perspectives between Susan and Trudy gave color to the narration. The procedural/ clue collecting part of the book unraveled at a good pace, and the conflict within the Roth family and Mary’s relationship to it offered good tension. My one issue with the story (entirely personal) was I found it hard to sympathize with a detective who had recently shot an evidently unarmed black man. The author uses this touchstone to current events to manipulate the reader, and I’m not sure the subplot was entirely necessary. There could have been something less charged to offer the additional tension, I think, which would not have turned off certain readers.
The narrator, Rachel Fulginiti, gave realistic interpretations of both Susan’s voice and the third person perspective of Trudy.
I enjoyed “The Disappearance of Trudy Solomon” by Marcy McCreary and look forward to future installments in the series.
Good mystery read with many likable and unlikable characters. Several twists and turns. Hard to put down.
Thank you NetGalley for the audio eARC.

Narrator Rachel Fukginiti worked well for me with this story.
The story has a daughter and a father working to solve the mystery. They each have their own contacts and with a generation gap in work experience, they work differently. I wasn't impressed.
There are a lot of characters, and I imagine the flow chart taking on the life of a map with convoluted lines. This is made worse by it being a cold case, and at times felt like a community-based conspiracy was happening.
This just didn't work for me. I was annoyed, would put it aside, read something else, and finally just finished it. I would have DNF'd this by 30%, but I committed to NetGalley for a review. While I have DNFd books on NetGalley, boredom has never been the reason.
To make matters worse, there is planned profanity.

I enjoyed the first book in the Detective Susan Ford book. The disappearance of a women in the Catskills when Susan was barely a teen has so many unanswered questions, especially now that the woman has been found - alive. Susan in on leave after being shot in the leg, and also after shooting a suspect that appeared to be unarmed. As a young teen, she wanted to help solve the mystery, partly because her dad was assigned to the case. Her retired father and her team up to try and solve the case. The suspects are many and there are a lot of false leads. TBH, I found it a little difficult to follow but that may be because I was listening the audiobook. Great narrator, btw, but I’ll likely want the hard copy for the sequels. I like the dynamic between Susan and her dad, and find the complicated relationship between Susan and her mother entirely believable. In the end, I was engaged in this mystery and look forward to reading more with these characters.

I enjoyed as an audiobook over 2 long drives. It kept me engaged in the twisty mystery of it all. I loved the detective daughter and dad duo working together to solve a mystery that haunted the father. I also loved the little side story that was rounding out each new clue they uncovered. I did find the investigation in to the daughter and her job a bit distracting but it was another piece that I enjoyed when it was wrapped up and we had a conclusion.
The narrator did a great job of keeping the story engaging, the plot kept me hooked and the twists kept me racing through the pages. I enjoyed this one!
A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.
I enjoyed this book overall - but found I sometimes got lost in the plot. I needed to focus on it when listening as it is quite interwoven.
Interesting, plot and characters but you need to concentrate
Really enjoyed this audio book it had enough twists in this to keep you hooked and came together well
The disappearance of Trudy Solomon was slow to start but had me gripped after the first chapter. It seems in a small town everyone has something to hide, and nothing is obvious. I had my theories through out the book, but remained hooked from start to end. I enjoyed that the book was written from multiple perspectives, and the narration is at an enjoyable pace. If you like crime thrillers or want to try an intriguing audio book this is for you!
The Disappearance of Trudy Solomon is an example of a remarkable employ of literary devices. Marcy McCreary writes beautifully. Her detailed, descriptions create clear visualizations of the story being recounted. I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook version, with the narration superbly delivered by Rachel Fulginiti. Her voice is clear and pleasant. She uses consistent, varied voices and her reading is well paced.
Thank You to CamCat Books, NetGalley and Marcy McCreary for the opportunity to enjoy this audiobook ARC.
In Marcy McCreary's 'The Disappearance of Trudy Solomon', Detective Susan Ford seeks to solve a 40 year old mystery - with a little help from her retired father. There is a lot going on in this book but it all comes together nicely in the end. I enjoyed listening to the audiobook, narrated by Rachel Fulginiti.
This is one of the most interesting mystery/thrillers that I have read (or listened in this case) this year!
The story of Trudy Solomon grabbed me from the very beginning. The book was super unique and well written, I loved all the characters and their development, the plot twists were so interesting too, I would have never guessed!
The audiobook was also beautifully narrated, I enjoyed it greatly and found it relaxing despite the fact that there was nothing relaxing about the story itself.
This book was a work of art!
A cogent procedural set in the crumbling world of Catskills resorts.
The Disappearance of Trudy Solomon is a cold case procedural where a woman’s disappearance (and re-discovery) causes one cold case to spawn into a whole host of crimes, all of which end up under the purview of a police officer currently sidelined by an officer-involved shooting and her father, a retired detective.
The bones of the story are good and the mystery itself is fine, if a touch convoluted and difficult to follow at times. I was interested in this one primarily for the setting, which was disappointingly not much of a factor in the story.
I liked the characters and the dialogue, and the officer-involved shooting side plot was handled well. The actual plot was less compelling, though competently done and fine if you’re just looking for a standard procedural.
Audiobook readers: This format mostly works well for the story, though it may have made some of the more cluttered aspects of the narrative harder to follow. The narrator’s impression of a thick New York accent is pretty cringe, but otherwise she does a fine job.

Thank you to @camcat_books for the chance to read this #eARC! This is an available in print and audiobook now.
Stanley and Rachel Roth seemed to have it all - a happy marriage, a successful hotel in the Catskill mountains, and a family. They were the respected family and picture of success. But when the remains of a body are found on the Highway that fit the description of long missing Trudy Solomon, long buried ugly secrets begin to pour out. Every member of the Roth family seems to hold a piece of the puzzle but will it all come together to find Trudy or will it tear their family apart?
I made it through this in no time as I couldn’t put it down! Bonus points for Barack Obama references, BLM support, and My Favorite Murder references! I think I related a lot to Susan as I often enjoyed working on projects with my dad and helping him growing up so I could sneak in some quality time. This town had secrets on secrets and it was impossible to predict all the twists! I highly recommend this for those who enjoy mysteries, whodunnit, and detective novels.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 4/5
Trudy Solomon disappeared 40 years ago in the Catskills. Whilst getting to the truth about her whereabouts police officer Susan Ford along with her father Will - a retired cop, unearth a whole other set of circumstances. This leads you to wonder how deep this mystery and its offshoots go.
There are a lot of characters which can be a little hard to follow at times especially during some of the ‘reveals’ I must admit I was a little confused. Although overall a good book.
The narrator kind of sounded like the voice of Daria from the eponymous TV show, which was a little disconcerting. She does have a great voice and did a good job.
I enjoyed this book and I think the idea was original to have the disappearance cleared up early on as a character who was alive. Period it did seem that the book was more concentrated on the two murders and the adoption or the selling of a child and had quite a bit of mystery in it as far as how all the many characters were related to each other.
I really enjoyed the interaction between detective Susan Ford and her father ,who was a retired detective.. Are the relationship between the two of them and her mother was quite interesting. The two murders and the selling of a baby are the main theme of the book . Since Trudy is in a home for people with dementia she is actually of little help in solving a case that she is a part of.
Some of the story takes place in 1977 and I liked reading about that time period. My only issue was that there are a lot of characters and I tend to get lost in who was who and how they were related but it still was a very good book.
Thank you to Netgalley, The author, and the publisher for allowing me to listen to this ARC. Also the narration was spot on.
