This was my first Shalini Boland book but it won’t be my last. I love the way the writing flowed and kept me invested in the story. I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. The issue for me was with the characters and what actually happened. The characters were annoyingly stupid, especially Anna, and made me want to smack them around (I’ve always thought if a writer can make you feel this strongly about characters, it’s a true credit to their writing). The situations themselves were farfetched and unlikely to actually happen so great writing was ruined by fantastical situations. I will be reading more of Boland’s books and hope they are more rooted in reality than this one.
It seems I read this some time ago… I recognized the author but not the title. Umm it sure why it’s onnnethallwy now I’d it’s been on hoopla.
I’ve linked to my previous review.
This is a dual timeline story where we meet Anna as she is dating her first love Finn and then later on while she is married to Will, the millionaire. Anna and Finn struggled as young lovers to make ends meet and Finn hatched a plan, but did Anna go along with it?
This one is a twisty domestic thrill, but I didn’t buy into some of the twists or the plan Finn conjured up. I will leave it at that to avoid spoilers. It was an entertaining enough listen, but nothing that will stay with me for long. I did enjoy the opening of the book and then bouncing between timelines. I thought the structure of it worked well.
This book was just okay. I liked this authors other books but this one I don't think this one was for me personally.
3.5 stars
This is a very entertaining story with a fairly enjoyable main character. This was a good mystery with some interesting plot twists that I didn’t fully see coming.
I will definitely read some of her other books.
Thanks NetGalley and publisher for the digital copy in exchange for my honest review!
Having read and enjoyed two of this author's previous books I had high expectations coming into this one. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy this book as much as previous titles from the author but nonetheless I would still class it as a reasonable three star read and a good bit of escapism.
Anna is married to the rich and successful Will and life is treating her well until her past comes back to haunt her placing her and her family in great danger. As things escalate to critical levels she is forced to confront the lies and secrets she has been holding from her husband. There are a few twists and turns along the way which build a bit of suspense and maintain reader interest.
I found the characters a bit too one dimensional but the biggest issue I had was with how far-fetched the plot was. The lack of realism made it difficult to truly engage at any depth and I was left a little disappointed overall.
Not one of this author's best books in my opinion but it wouldn't stop me reading any future publications she may offer.
I am grateful to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC of this book.
Unfortunately this book wasn’t my favorite from this author. Although the narration was good, I felt the characters were very flat and difficult to like. It was very intriguing at the beginning, but then the main character make so many unbelievable choices that made it difficult to engage with the story. I’m looking forward to her next book though as I’ve liked the ones I’ve previously read.
Another gripping read from Shalini Boland. Well read by the narrator. I do enjoy an audiobook where the narration feels natural and doesn’t take you out of the story. This was just such a reading.
The story itself was a fast paced thriller with a twist or two along the way and quite early on. There are a few frustrating moments where my inner voice is screaming at Anna to tell the police or Will or both, but I guess that would cut the story short and make it rather dull. Don’t be lead by the title (which makes the book sound like a Mills & Boon), this is a white knuckle ride of a book
This book was so tense, I had to speed up the recording because I was so nervous! Very suspenseful and gripping. Anna makes some really stupid decisions and some good ones. I'm not going to rehash the plot because I don't want to give anything away. There were a few twists I expected, and a few that surprised me in the best possible way.
*note there is a puppy in the story. If you want to know if any harm comes to him, you can check this <spoiler>The puppy is targeted, but is all right in the end</spoiler>.
Great read!
I feel like I haven’t been loving anything lately but ugh!
The book alternated between two timelines. Presently, Anna has the perfect life until she hears about the death of a woman who may or may not haver an effect on her life.
In the past timeline, Anna is with Finn. While she falls deeply in love, Finn certainly has some red flags popping up left and right. When money becomes super tight, Finn comes up with some crazy ideas to make money. Anna eventually decides to split as Finn becomes more unhinged. But did he decide to continue the plan without her?
The premise is not terrible but I really did not care for the execution. There was one twist that I liked and didn’t see coming but the rest was really out there. But the worst part was the ending. The first part was anti-climactic but then the second part so was so cringey that I physically rolled my eyes at the last exchange.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Having previously read books by Boland, I was excited to dive into this one head first. This book was an entertaining, fun and fast read with a couple of nice twists. However, it was extremely far fetched and unrealistic. I can't say this was my favorite Boland book, but that does not deter me from continuing to read her other novels.
Thanks to Bookouture Audio, Shalini Boland and NetGalley for the audiobook ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Anna Blackwell, receives a text message from an unknown number that contains an image of a dead woman. She immediately knows what has happened and who has done it, but she struggles with what to do. Her past was not the best and she has not told her husband everything that he should know. The number continues to text her telling her that she needs to hold up her end of their bargain. The story goes back to show us Anna's ex-boyfriend, Finn, wanting them to breakup, marry rich people, kill them, and end up together. There is so much more to this story as she tries to fix the problem without telling her husband, but eventually, everything catches up to her and the truth must come out in order to protect her family,
I am not a thriller person, but this book kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't stop listening.
I'm rarely disappointed by Shalini Boland's books, and this one is great, especially in an audiobook format. The narrator was excellent. The narrator had a pleasant and dynamic voice. The book lends itself to the audiobook format since a handful of characters are prominently featured. Shalini took her time in resolving this novel's primary dilemma, which was nice because sometimes there's an abrupt ending in thrillers. Thanks for the advance review copy.
In true form of this author, a dark, twisty, psychological wonky thriller that will have you asking yourself why you didn’t figure it all out. It is that twisted and well written! Can we ever truly escape our past and move forward? Read and find out. This was a fast paced, well crafted creep fest. I always have a hard time when reviewing thrillers as I am terrified of giving even a hint away so Ill say this. Read with the lights on and the doors locked and deal with your past before it comes looking for you!
Another fantastic read from Shalini Boladnd! Huge thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for allowing me to listen to an advanced audio copy of this book. The narrator of this story was great at separating the characters, and adjusting the pitch for the different POVs.
This story is told in the past and present. In the past, Anna was hopelessly in love with Finn, and although they faced serious financial troubles, they were happy. Until Finn gives Anna a shocking ultimatum, and they break up. Now, it is several years later, Finn is long gone, and Anna is happily married to Will, a milionaire. Her financial troubles and relationship with Finn are long behind her. Then, Anna receives an email with the image of a dead woman, and Anna knows that her world is about to crumble around her. Anna must face her past relationship with Finn, and tell her husband the truth-but at what cost?
'The Millionaire's Wife' makes a fantastic listen in its audiobook form. An exciting read with plot twists, secrets and plenty of action!
As is so on trend these days, the narrative shifts between present and past timelines. The 'wife' alluded to in the title, is Anna, a beautiful Swedish woman who moved to England with her family as a teenager, she fell for a guy who became her childhood sweetheart, a relationship that lasted during her early twenties. In the past timeline details of this time are shared. The present timeline sees Anna married to millionaire, Will, and enjoying his 30th birthday party when a text arrives with a photo of a dead woman, thoroughly throwing her life into disarray. though I would love to share more, I don't want to spoil it for anyone else!
This is a great plot, original, gripping and very well portrayed. The narrator does a fantastic job, nothing to fault here at all! Overall this is a book I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to readers/listeners of the psychological thriller genre.
My thanks to NetGalley, author, and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.
My first Shalin Boland! God, I'm late to the party!
So glad I took a chance and went for it as an audiobook - it was really well narrated.
4 stars for me - the story was a little bit far fetched! But it held my interest, threw a great curve ball of a twist and left me feeling happy at the end.
I want to thank the author, NetGalley and Bookouture Audio
for providing me the opportunity to read this new book for my honest review.
I liked this, the last suspense thriller was the perfect wife. However the only thing that through me off was that the last couple of chapters were wild and seemed pulled out of thin air. It was really enjoyable. Maybe because it was an audiobook the time jumps had me a little confused but regardless it was a good read!
When your past comes knocking!
Anna is happily married to her husband, Will. They have a wonderful life together. Then one day, Anna gets an unwelcomed blast from her past. Secrets and lies are the name of the game here.
This book is told through the past and present. In the past, Anna was in a relationship with Finn. She is happy but then Finn makes a shocking suggestion and then things go downhill from there.
Now happily married, Anna is worried and anxious when Finn reaches out to her.
I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed it. I enjoyed the tension that was built upon throughout the book. There are a few twists and turns along the way. There are a lot of mixed reviews for this book and I get it. I enjoyed the audiobook and wonder if that is the way to go.
Although, I enjoyed it, this was not my favorite book by the author. But that will not stop me from reading whatever she writes next.

Thank you to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
I must confess, I had only skimmed the synopsis when going into this book because the first few sentences grabbed me. I was like yes! I want to know everything. So I dove in immediately only knowing partly what it was about.
Upon listening to the first chapter I was like omg!!!! This needs to be made into a movie. As the story went on I was able to put a couple things together and then out of nowhere I got smacked hard across the face. I truly didn’t see that twist coming and I felt all of the rage!
It really was a lovely listen. I’ve only listened to a few audibles, because I feel like my brain tend to wander if I’m listening and not reading. However I was kept entertained throughout the story. I’m thinking of getting a physical copy just to gift to someone.
