Another fabulous psychological thriller by Sue Watson. This is a brilliant thriller with a twist that just blew me away.

I was definitely intrigued about The Nursery from the start.

I can’t say I was a huge fan of Emily, Sophia or Nancy … they were all annoying in their own way.

The title and the quote on the front “You tucked her in last night and now she’s gone” I was expecting a stolen baby and that was not what happened. Over all I enjoyed it and the ending had some twists I didn’t see coming.

Emily is a single mum to teenager Sofia. They have the usual battles over social media and unsuitable friendships but these have an added overtone due to their past...
The Nursery is a psychological thriller and domestic drama.
Emily's natural motherly concern for her daughter borders on paranoia. I think every parent will identify with the fears about allowing teens an increased independence. These feelings are intensified for Emily as she constantly worries about her ex discovering their location. The modern issue of online identity is covered by the plot.
There are plenty of hints about their past and why Emily is worried about their safety. I did find the first third of the book a little slow and the clues were quite repetitive. There are tense moments which show Emily's constant vigilance and the state of panic she lives in.
I did start to wonder why the book has been given this title as Sofia is a teenager, however all becomes clear later as the plot develops. The book is written from Emily's first person perspective so that we are fully attuned to her emotions and thought processes. Get ready for some big twists in the second half of the book...!
The Nursery is a slow burning psychological thriller.

I usually really enjoy Sue Watson’s thrillers, but this one just wasn’t for me. I thought it was entirely too long and drawn out. Also, the constant chapter ending foreshadowing sentences made everything seem very cheesy. I will continue to read Watson’s thrillers, this one just wasn’t my jam.

*Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.*
I have read a number of Watson's other books, and enjoyed them, so was expecting good things from 'The Nursery'. Domestic/psychological thrillers are also my favourite kind of books and this one did not disappoint. The story focuses on the lives of Emily and her now teenager daughter Sofia and something that happened in the past. No spoilers, but lots of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing.

I loved this one. It wasn't what I was expecting and I enjoyed the characters, settings, plot, and pace. It was hard to put this one down.

Summary:

Emily and Sophia are living a quiet life living as mother and daughter in a small English town.

Emily is trying to live a low profile life working in a perfume store while her teenage daughter attends high school until Sophia starts getting some mysterious cyber messages. This opens up the spiral of many other shocking events happening in their normally quiet life. What is sneaking up from Emily’s past?

My Thoughts:

I enjoy all of Sue Watson’s books, and this is another captivating mystery. I would categorize this as more of a mysterious domestic drama than a thriller, but I did like the premise of the plot.

You can never go wrong with a Sue Watson book!

I am such a fan of Sue Waston's work. Her books are always mysterious and fast-paced, perfect for devouring in one sitting and The Nursery was no exception. In fact, I think this might be my new favourite from her.

Full of shocking, unexpected plot twists and edge-of-your-seat suspense, The Nursery was a real page turner!

Back to my favourite genre for this read - psychological thrillers are just a cut above the rest!

It follows the story of a single mom and her daughter who have run away from their family home. And my gosh, had an incredible twist at the end. At times it felt quite slow, but still kept me guessing overall which is definitely a good thing.

I always enjoy books from the author and this one didn't disappoint. Interesting characters and a bit of a twist on the missing child type plot.

I have to start by saying that I would definitely say I am a fan of some of Sue Watsons books, however this one infuriated me beyond belief. Emily and her daughter Sofia are the stars of this latest story and at first it was pretty readable and it was very clear that Emily had run from something. The story flowed well and I got into it pretty quickly but there were a few niggles that continued to irritate and just seemingly got worse.

Emily as a Mother was ridiculously over the top, but I could forgive that to a point. However, considering she trusted nobody, she then decides to trust a dude she literally met five minutes before? That annoyed me, as did her friend Nancy. She needed a good slap and to be told to disappear off the face of the planet. The final and worst thing for me was the addition of stating the obvious at the end of what felt like every chapter!

These few niggles really put a dampner on this book for me and lessened the enjoyment hugely. It was still an okay read but nowhere near what I have come to expect from this author and this definitely wouldn’t be on my list of books from her I love.

I'm not sure the title really goes with the story. It was a long time before the nursery was even mentioned. However, the story itself was really good and well written. I especially liked the twist at the end.

Emily and her teenage daughter Sofia live a quiet and normal life, but Emily feels like someone is watching them. The fear intensifies when someone breaks into their home and leaves a note.

This is such a gripping page turner with lots of twists to keep you on your toes. The suspense builds as you know something bad is about to happen but not exactly what.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.
