Twelve years ago Emily and her young daughter Sofia escaped their past by leaving Manchester and fleeing to Sidmouth. They were befriended by Mr and Mrs Woods who provided them with a rented flat and gave Emily a job in their perfume shop. Now twelve years later Emily is still protecting their lives so is horrified when she finds Sofia is messaging a stranger on social media and fears for her safety. Who is this new online girlfriend who seems to know so much about their lives? Emily’s past starts to unravel as more of her secrets are revealed. This is a book that will keep you in suspense and guessing until the end. A highly recommended read.

The Nursery by Sue Watson. Pub Date: October 22, 2022. Rating: 3 stars. In this psychological suspense thriller, Emily and her daughter Sophia have fled an abuser and are living a quiet life that appears to be "normal." But, suddenly Emily starts to feel a presence and as if someone is watching them. One night, someone breaks into their home and leaves an ominous note. From that point, the reader is taken on a journey of suspense, family drama, broken relationships and secrets. I liked this book, but did not love it. It felt a little slow at times, but overall had enough mystery to keep the flow of the story. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookoutoure for this free e-arc in exchange for my honest review. #thenursery #netgalley

This is my review of The Nursery.

Emily had just left her job as a nurse to care for her daughter, Sophia, and start a new life to avoid her ex-husband, Chris, from finding them. They had just escaped a dangerous situation and Emily was afraid about being found.

They were both fortunate to rent a flat from an older couple (the woods) who took them in as family and gave Emily a part-time job in their perfume shop, while Sophia was at nursery school.

Then Emily senses someone is watching them at their flat…and then in their flat. There was a break-in and a crescent-shaped plastic piece and a strange note was left at the scene.

Sophia, a teenager now, once a star student, is getting into trouble at school and she’s started asking questions about when she was a baby, but Emily can’t tell her what really happened the night she went missing. Nobody would understand why Emily did what she did, and if anyone ever found out, she could lose her daughter forever.

Then Emily catches Sofia messaging a stranger online, and reads the last message received.

“Your mother isn’t who you think she is.”

Then Emily returns home days later, to find Sophia missing! Has her past finally caught up with her?

This was a well-written novel filled with drama, full of twists and turns to totally grip the reader.

Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for my digital copy.

Omg. I couldn’t stop reading. Literally spent a day in bed to finish! Bits of secret throughout and the plot twists kept me guessing with just a bit of creepiness mixed in! I always love any book I read from #SueWatson! A favorite!

Thanks to netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Emily and her daughter Sofia seem like a normal mother and daughter leading a normal life. Emily suddenly feels that she is being watched. Glimpse’s of Emily’s past are relived and you discover that escaped her husband who wanted to destroy their family.

Will Emily’s past catch up with her and put her and Sofia at risk?

Back in the Summer, I read my first book by Sue Watson called The Resort, it was fantastic! So when I got the chance to read another one of her books it was a straightaway YES!

The Nursery is one of those twisty thrillers that you really don’t know which way the story is going. You meet Emma, mum to three year old Sofia who had to leave her ex-husband. The pair fled to Sidmouth to leave their old life behind. But what are they hiding?

Life is great for a few years. One day Emma discovers that Sofia who is now a teen has been texting someone. The last message her daughter receives is “your mother isn’t who you think she is” before she disappears. The past has caught up with Emma.

What a great book! You will be guessing all the time, and then when you think you know, you actually don’t! Fantastically written!

Wow, wow, wow…..So you know when you read a book and love it that much, that you want everyone to read it?!…..This is that book! It is absolutely bloody brilliant. Such an incredible read, it has totally blown my mind.

The characters are spot on with character development. You can feel every emotion they go through has the author brings them to life in this twisty, pulse racing read. That will keep you hooked from start to finish with twist after twist and some cracking OMG moments. I really didnt want it to end…but at the same time I did, just to find out what was going to happen next.

The build up of suspense and tention woven into a heart-rendering story took me on a whirlwind of emotions. What more can I say but this is easily one of the best books I have read this year and definitely the best book I have read by the author so far. Sue Watson you have totally nailed it!

All the stars from me….I can’t recommend it enough. Grab your copy on the link below….

I enjoyed The Nursery, starting off as quite the slow burn it ramped up in the second half with lots of action. Full of secrets and past coming back to haunt you it kept me turning the pages long into the night. There were quite a few twists I didn't see coming and made for an interesting turn of events.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this early reading copy it is one I would recommend.

Emily and her daughter, Sofia, are living a quiet life by the sea, far away far from her ex husband and the past. But when Sofia starts hanging out with an unsavory girl who is telling her negative things about Emily, Emily warns Sofia to stay away but also fears that things she did in the past are about to come back to haunt her.

This book was a little slow for me. I felt like they kept eluding to these big secrets without even getting a tidbit about what they were, which I find to be a little annoying. I also though there were long spans where nothing much happened. With all that said, I did think the ending was pretty good and that sort of redeemed it for me..

I struggled a lot with this one. It started off strong but then it didn't happen much in the story. I lost my interest and didn't really actually care about any of the characters in this book. Unfortunately this book didn't live to my expectations.

The Nursery was a book I enjoyed and took me a while to figure out what was happening in a good way.
Emily and Sofia have been together just the two of them for the last twelve years, Emily escaped her husband and took her daughter with her, they live by the sea and lead a hand to mouth existence being a single parent. Sofia was a grade a student but things have started to slide and Emily is sure something on social media is the start of it. As time moves along more things start to crop up and Emily thinks her past is catching up with her, is everything she’s built a life on the truth or a lie?
This book is full of secrets and one by one they are revealed, it is written well with a great plot and characters that were both likeable and not so. The book had good pace and the storyline flowed well with an ending that tied up all loose ends.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

This is a fast paced domestic psychological thriller with lots of twists and turns and red herrings to keep you guessing from the beginning to the satisfying ending.
It is jam packed with secrets and lies and a cast of well drawn characters who you will either love or hate.
I'm not sure the book title actually fits the story as it is only loosely mentioned but it's an enjoyable read anyway which I totally recommend.

Enjoyed this book! It had some unexpected twist and turns and I really did not anticipate the ending.
Not job in keeping my interest. I couldn't quite understand the title at first but certainly came to understand it as I got into the story. Nice job Sue Watson!

I received an ARC copy of this book via the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

First off, let me start off by saying the tag line does not match the inside of the book at all. When I first read the tagline, I was expecting the book to be about a baby that was kidnapped from her nursery bed as she lay sleeping and the book was to be about how the mother goes about getting her back. Maybe I misread it but I was very disappointed in that aspect of the book.

Our narrator and MC, Emily, was so pretentious. I did not like her from the start. She was constantly on that "I'm mightier than thou" horse and it was frustrating. As a mother, she could be insufferable. Her daughter who is almost 18, no wonder began to rebel against her. Constantly checking her phone and the things that Emily thought that she was entitled too was just ridiculous. She made me so frustrated at times and was honestly main reason I disliked this book so much. I couldn't get pas her narration most of the time especially when she was speaking in regards to Sophia.

What I did enjoy about the book was the twists at the end. I knew something was up with Emily and I had a hunch that Sophia was not her real daughter to begin with. What I didn't anticipate was the twist at the end with Cerys, Sophia's real mother. I cannot imagine what was going through her head. How could Emily have let Cerys go through that on her own knowing exactly who she was. If she had mourned that Cerys likes she claims she did, how could she in good conscience allow Cerys to go through life like that? I just did not understand our MC at all.

Overall, it was a decent book but not one that I would read again. It honestly does not make me want to read any more of Sue Watson's novels. She didn't grab my attention and at times I really had to push myself through the book. I don't think I would pick up another Sue Watson novel on my own free will.

I was so excited to read this book, since I am a big fan of this author. I really like her storytelling talent and the way I'm lost in each story. This story started promising, which is not surprising. As I read more , I started to dislike the mom's character, Emily. She just sounded intensely worried and panicky. The rest of the story was very interesting. I plan to keep reading future books from this super talented author because I just love her writing style. Thanks to NetGalley, publisher and author, for allowing me to read the free copy of this book in exchange for my review.

Thanks NetGalley, Bookouture and the talented Sue Watson.
Not my first and definitely won't be my last read by Sue Watson.
Emily and her daughter Sophia live a quiet protected life where they are escaping something or someone we are not fully sure about. Suddenly their quiet life starts taking unexpected turns, with couple of plot twists and totally unexpected ending, a fast paced unputdownable thriller.

Emily is happily living a quiet ,content life with her teenage daughter Sophia. But when someone starts leaving cryptic messages on the net telling Sophia not to trust her mom will all the secrets that Emily tried to protect her daughter from blow up her almost perfect life?

The Nursery by Sue Watson is a domestic psychological thriller .She has written another well written plot with some unexpected twists and turns and an ending that I wasn’t expecting made it a highly entertaining read .

This book was certainly not what I expected!

Emily has moved to Sidmouth with her 15 year old daughter Sofia to get away from Manchester, but as a reader you are not sure why, all you know is that she has left behind her husband and a career as a nurse and is now working in a perfume shop. She is also incredibly on edge and secretive…

It took me a while to get into this book and I couldn’t fathom for the life of me why it had been given the title ‘The Nursery’ as there were no babies in it, but once I got into I couldn’t put it down.

This novel is a psychological thriller full of so many twists, turns and surprises that it will keep you up all night and guessing throughout! It also has one of the best endings I have read in a very long time!!!

This is the 1st novel that I have read by Sue Watson but it definitely won’t be the last!

Many thank to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me with an ARC
