Santa, Please Bring me a Boyfriend for Christmas by Sophie Ranald
I loved “Santa, Please Bring Me a Boyfriend for Christmas,” however, I have one recommendation—change the title. This book is so much more than the search for a love interest. It’s about the strongest and most supportive group of female friendship that I have ever read about. So, if it was up to me, this book would definitely get a title change, STAT.
Rowan, the main character, has one main thing on her Christmas list—a boyfriend for Christmas. She is newly divorced with a teenage daughter at home, and less than lucrative job as a real estate agent.
Set in London, this book is filled with descriptive and fun adventures throughout the city. But the main story line, in my opinion, was the support from Rowan’s cast of friends. After noticing she was extremely down at one of their girls’ luncheons at the start of the season, the group decides to do something to cheer up their friend and get her feeling a little more festive. Due to her lack of funds from her less than stellar job, Rowan is finding it difficult to enjoy this holiday season. Her friends arrange a fancy advent calendar filled with treats that her and her daughter look forward to discovering every day.
But, that’s not all. This advent calendar arrives with a surprise, and I don’t just mean the hot delivery guy Rowan looks forward to interacting with daily. This group of friends has removed the surprises from the box and has set them to arrive daily—knowing their friend would not have the patience to open one each day. But, they’ve also thrown in a few surprises of their own—tasks, surprise guests, and memorable gifts that will have Rowan remembering who she once was before she became a mom and a divorcee, and reminding her of the confident, sexy, and successful woman she once was.
As Rowan gets to know her adorable delivery guy, she also gets to know herself. Will Rowan get to unwrap more than just her advent calendar treats come Christmas morning?
This story not only dives into the importance of having a support group around you, but also the challenges in co-parenting, and raising a teen as a single mom, plus the difficulties in succeeding at work in a male-dominated office. Throw in there an ex-husband who was once also her secret “friend with benefits” long after their divorce, and this novel has all the sex-appeal you need to keep you cheering for love.
Will this be the Christmas Rowan’s wishes come true?
This is a holiday book you can enjoy all year round.
This is a good book. The two main characters are Rowan and Alex. Rowan is divorced and has a daughter. Alex is a delivery driver. There is an immediate attraction when they meet, he is delivering a package to her apartment. They each have issued that they work out and fall in love.
Cute! However, it did take some time to get into this for me. Thankfully the chapters are short so it is easy to fly through them. I truly loved the idea fort his book and think that Rowan's friends are the best!
The best Christmas book of the year! I lovedddd this one. It was funny, cute, sweet and everything you'd want in a Christmas rom-com. Highly, highly recommend!
Now THIS was a cute story. I absolutely enjoyed reading it! The characters!! The plot!!! And it doesn’t hurt that I especially enjoyed the cover.
A Funny Holiday romantic that you will enjoy. I always laugh so hard with the authors books and this one wasn’t any different completely enjoyed it!

I went into this on a whim without knowing anything about it, but at the time I just wanted to read Christmas books so I grabbed it off NetGalley.
Surprisingly, I enjoyed it. I think the story worked so well for me and I felt so invested with the characters. There were some funny moments in this romantic story that had me laughing, which I didn’t enjoy.
The whole idea behind the advent calendar was such an interesting take on a holiday book. It added so much Christmas spirit. Rowan and Alex had a fun addictive side to their characters.
I would consider this more of a slow-burn romance, which worked for me as I loved the characters and it gave me more time to relate to them. The only thing I didn’t love was how much Rowan talked about her ex, it got too repetitive and that ending wasn’t the best.
I haven’t read anything by this author, but I liked the writing style. It was a fun and hilarious romance with likable characters. It was a slow burn but I didn’t mind it. Some scenes added so much to their romantic relationship. This was a fun holiday read!
This totally put me in the Christmas spirit! Why haven't I read more holiday romance books?! And I hear there's some books prior to this. I can't wait to read Sophie's backlist!
This was sassy and funny! And who doesn't fall in love with a man that has a soft Scottish accent?! I truly loved Rowan's friends - where do I get a group like that?! I love the idea that they did an advent for her that involves gifts being delivered everyday. This was such a fun rom-com! I do wish it was all in first person instead of switching from first to third person. I prefer first person because I feel like I know exactly how the characters think and feel which makes it so much easier to relate and connect with them. I still ended up not being able to put this down!
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for my review copy!
I really enjoyed this book. It is a heartfelt, feel good, put you in the Christmas spirit book. While this is a romance book, I really enjoyed that the things between Rowan and Alex didn’t feel rushed. Everything felt very natural, nothing was forced, and any obstacle also felt very nature.
A lighthearted fun Christmas read!
I adored Alex so so much. But I wasn't a huge fan of Rowan I found her whingy & ungrateful at times.
I enjoyed this book. It was cute, funny and believable. The characters were great and not at all what I was expecting. Would recommend.
Erm, where do I sign up for friends like this!?! I loved the concept of the story and thought the author managed to really pull off a super cute and romantic holiday read. Parts of the story need some "tightening" but overall, I loved our FMC and her character development throughout the story. Super fun and sweet love story, with a uniquely fun concept.
Premise sounds great and maybe could’ve been cut down to a novella for a better read as this felt like it dragged. Also I just couldn’t buy into how you could fall in love and build on a relationship when their meetings were on a doorstep for a maximum of two minutes at a time. OK I get they begin to interact more away from this but enough for me to feel the chemistry and romance nor buy into their falling in love
The cutest holiday rom com! Because who doesn't love a cozy holiday love story during the holiday season! My first read by Sophie Renald but not my last!
4.5 out of 5 stars
It’s been a rough year for Rowan. It’s hard being alone for the holidays. Especially when your ex is getting remarried, you’re teen daughter is growing distant, and you’re stuck in a job that’s more thankless than anything else.
Its hard to get into the holiday spirit with so much to stress about, and her friends know it. So, they devise a plan to have an advent “present” be sent to her every day until Christmas. Each day, a new package arrived…and every day the same cute delivery man drops it off.
Oh, this was such a cute book! I absolutely loved it. Sophie Ranald created such a fun plot with well written and relatable characters! I couldn’t put it down! It was also so fun to see what Rowan’s friends were going to send her next.
Okay maybe it was a bit unrealistic that her friends could afford to send her all that stuff, but I don’t care! I loved how sweet and generous her friends were to her, especially when they knew she was struggling!
I just loved this whole book!
*Thanks to Netgalley and the Author for am e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
~ What it’s about ~
Rowan is really lacking in Christmas spirit. Between her non-existent love life, difficulties with her ex and a job that is proving far more difficult that she had hoped, she just doesn’t feel like celebrating. To bring back her festive spirit, Rowan’s friends organise a surprise advent calendar. As much as Rowan is loving the daily gifts, it’s the delivery guy, Alex, that she really looks forward to seeing each day.
~ My Thoughts ~
Cute, funny and romantic! This was a heart-warming story about friendship and finding love. I really liked Rowan as a character. I enjoyed her growth as she went from allowing people to walk all over her, to standing up for herself and making changes. Although the daughter was a massive brat, I thought their relationship was painfully accurate. I liked how this book was just as much about Rowan’s adventure to rediscover herself and build up confidence as it was about finding her love. The balance between the two made this one stand out for me.
I truly enjoyed the story between Rowan & Alex. Their flirty interactions at the beginning were sweet and I loved the idea behind Rowan’s friends sending her random Christmas gifts to cheer her up. I loved the setting in London and reading the descriptions of the big city as residents get ready for Christmas. 🎄
This story was funny, romantic and heart warming!
**Thank you to the publisher for sending me a copy to read for an honest review**
This was such a lovely Christmassy read.
I loved the focus on friendship and the almost accidental romance that just happened as they both got to know each other throughout the story. I loved the characters personalities.
I did find the link between work client and home life a little far fetched, but it added nicely to the story and didn’t really detract from the overall romantic tone.
It’s definitely a lovely easy Christmas read that I would recommend to others.
This was a super fun read right at the holidays I really enjoyed it and couldn't put it down i loved the writing and the story so much.
Overall, I enjoyed the idea of this book more than the book itself, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a decent romance that a different romance fan might love.
