I was very excited to read this book, having enjoyed the author’s previous book so much. I was totally gripped by this one, and it was one of those books that I was quite sorry when it had to come to an end.

I won’t spoil the plot by telling you what the main character, Meghan was accused of doing, but it’s not what I was expecting. I thought that she might have been a bit foolish to go on the run, but as I read more of the background story I could understand what she was up against.

I really liked her as a character and I really wanted things to work out for her, but as the tension and suspense built up it seemed as though she was in danger and it made for a very heart-pounding read.

This book is so cleverly plotted, with twists and turns that I really didn’t see coming. The atmosphere is tense and it builds up so well to the ending. This is a book that I couldn’t put down and I just flew through the pages. A really superb psychological thriller.

The storyline was good although it lacks the high paced throller vibe that I love. However, the ending was definitely a surprise for me.

TRIGGER WARNING: cancer and euthanasia
Meghan's life is turned upside down when her husband is diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. He refuses treatment and is desperate for her to help him die with dignity. She can't bear to help him but he dies and she is accused of murder so she grabs their son and goes on the run...
The Missing Widow is a psychological thriller set in America.
Meghan is devastated by her husband's illness but cannot fulfil his last wish to end his suffering, Yet she still finds herself accused of murder and runs away to go into hiding with their son Ashton. She settles into her new life but never manages to fully relax. A year later her situation is as tense as ever and she wants to prove her innocence while also finding the truth.
I was absolutely gripped by this book. Meghan is put into a terrible situation and her in laws were the most dreadful people. I was so cross with her husband for not standing up to his parents but his cancer battle is heartbreaking. The dilemma she faces on whether to help him die is a huge emotional load and very thought provoking.
Meghan needs to battle to find the truth whilst also staying safely incognito. The plot is delivered at a swift pace and I devoured the pages in a single afternoon. The tension is maintained right to the end and there were some fab twists in the final chapters.
The Missing Widow is an emotional and gripping psychological thriller.

I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. This book started off so good that I could not put it down. The middle was just okay but it did end with a huge surprise. Maybe it's just me but I feel like I keep reading the same thrillers lately--woman flees her husband with her child and moves to small town and changes her name with no problem at all.

Meghan's husband is dying of cancer but refuses treatment. As he wants to die with some dignity, he asks her to do the unthinkable and help him die when the pain becomes unbearable. She gets the syringe but cannot do it. When she comes back into the room, he has passed. Her wealthy in-laws, who never liked her but felt she married for money, accuses Meghan of murdering her son. So what does she do? Meghan runs with her son.

I am becoming a huge fan of L.G. Davis! She is so highly recommended, I couldn't pass this one up!
The plot grips you at the first chapter and doesn't let go until the last page, which seems to be the selling point of this author!
I loved the characters, Davis creates people that you love and want the best for, or ones that make you angry! Such is her talent.
I can't recommend this enough!

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Missing Widow' by L.G Davis.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for L.G Davis, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 18th October 2022.

This is the second book I have read by this author. I have also read 'Liar Liar' which I would also highly recommend.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching beautiful cover and intriguing sounding synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that 'Anyone who loves Gone Girl, The Girl on the Train and Behind Closed Doors will be utterly gripped.' I am a huge fan of 'Gone Girl' so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of L.G Davis and if this book is half as good as 'Liar Liar' it is guaranteed to be a page turner. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of 40 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in the fictional town of Willow Creek, Tennessee, USA 🇺🇸.

This book is written in first person perspective and main protagonist is Meghan Wilton. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them.

This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions that really set the scene and kept me on the edge of my seat. The cover and synopsis suited the storyline perfectly.

OMG!!! MIND ABSOLUTELY BLOWN!!!!

Love, LOVE, LOVED this absolute page turner!! This book is extremely fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. It was one of those true gems where if you had to put it down you had to race back as soon as you could to find out what was going to happen next. The plot is unique which is always a bonus after reading so many psychological thrillers. The storyline is absolutely ram packed with mystery, deceit, secrets, lies, romance, tension, suspense, death, friendship and OMG the twists just kept on coming again and again!!! Just when I thought everything that could happen had happened BOOM there was another shocker around the corner. Every time I kept telling myself one more chapter the one I was in ended at a point where there was no way I could stop reading so I absolutely devoured it in one sitting!! I WAS absolutely blown away and considering I read approximately 30 books a month that is certainly no easy feat so a HUGE congratulations on that Liz!!. I really could not recommend this book any more. It was based in a fictional town which sounded absolutely stunning and if it was real I would definitely love to visit Ruth's cottage, the Lemon Cafe and Ruth's Bakery!!!! I absolutely loved the absolutely mind blowing and cliffhanger ending which had my jaw dropping to the floor!! If you are looking for something unique, filled with suspense and that will blow your mind then this is definitely the book for you!!

DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT READING THIS UNTIL YOU HAVE CLEARED YOUR SCHEDULES AS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PUT IT DOWN!!!

Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read an excerpt of L.G Davis' absolutely gripping 'Liar, Liar' which is another mind blowing page turner and one I have read myself and would highly recommend!!

I wasn't just 100% invested in the storyline but also in the characters. The every one of the characters were well defined, realistic and strong. Unfortunately I am not going to be able to say much at all about them as I don't want to run the risk of giving anything away. I will however say that my heart completely went out to Meghan who didn't deserve anything that she went through. I felt so sorry on her but I did enjoy watching how her character fought every step of the way and did everything in her power to protect her son. I do love seeing kick @$$ females in books and Meghan was definitely one of the toughest. She just went through absolute hell and yet kept fighting tooth and nail and I enjoyed seeing her get stronger and her character develop throughout. I will also say that I was absolutely gutted about a certain character especially considering what they did for Meghan at the end. There were several characters u could not stand but then you can't love everyone especially in a psychological thriller otherwise it wouldn't be much fun would it!! . Needless to say they all worked perfectly together to make this page turner as amazing as it is!!!

A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to L.G Davis on what promises to be a massive best seller!!! I WAS absolutely shocked by so many explosive reveals!!! This is why your on my favourite author list Liz and here's to your next explosive success 🥂!!!

Overall an absolutely addictive, mind blowing page turner that will keep you up with a racing heart until you've finished!!!

Genres covered in this book include Mystery, Thriller & Suspense Literary Fiction, Thriller, Psychological Fiction, Suspense, Thriller, Women's Psychological Fiction, Domestic Fiction, Psychological Thriller, Domestic Thriller and Mystery amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of 'Gone Girl', 'The Girl on the Train', 'Behind Closed Doors' and anyone looking for an explosive thriller that will just blow your mind!!!

248 pages.

This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle, free on kindle unlimited (at time of review) and £7.99 in paperback on Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

The Missing Widow is another cracker of a read from Davis, the plot is compelling and draws you in from the very first page. It is fast paced, exciting and an absolute page turner.

Fantastically twisty with an intensive plot and an explosive ending. The story is narrated in present tense, making the plot more credible. Main characters Zoe and Clark along with the supporting cast were well developed, flawed and definitely made for an exciting read.

I've read several of Davis' books of late and she's definitely an author that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend if you're a lover of psychological thrillers.

Many thanks to Bookouture for my tour spot.

This is the second book I've read by L. G. Davis. Meet Meghan whose parents died in a car crash; she dropped out of the University of North Carolina and went to live with her gran. Meeting Brett was a turning point for her and they had a baby son - Ashton. Brett's family owns a chain of hotels - the Black Oyster Resort -based in New Haven. Meghan met Brett whilst working as a maid and the couple marry within six months. Ashton is now four and Brett has been diagnosed with stomach cancer. When Brett passes away Meghan finds herself with a need to go on the run with her son.

Certainly compelling and exciting, I was really invested in this explosive tale from the off. The tension ramps up as the tale progresses, headed towards a cat-and-mouse chase and there's a plot twist at the end. A great domestic drama-thriller and well worth a look.

This review was written voluntarily and my rating was in no way influenced by the fact that I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel from Bookouture via NetGalley.

This book has it all, emotion, moral choices, police investigations and the age old good vs bad debate.

Fast paced, whip smart and written well.

A must have for any thriller lover.

Wow ! Wow! Wow! I’m literally speechless after finishing this absolutely amazing psychological thriller. This book took me on an utterly twisty and gripping journey and had me gasping in disbelief in parts. I honestly don’t know how Davis writes such tense and shocking thrillers but she sure does. Everything about this book I absolutely loved and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Brett is sick and his wife wants him to recover. He is getting tired and he wants her to end his pain. His parents refuse to accept their son’s fate. When “Zoe” finds out Brett has passed, she is numb. His mother Nora blames her for Brett’s death. Zoe can barely grieve because of Nora’s blame and her resulting bitterness. More than that Zoe is plagued with lingering doubts about how Brett died. She takes her son and flees to a cabin in a small town. Is she wanted for the murder of Brett? Is that why she ran, and even changed her name and her son’s name?

With hazy memories of the night her husband died, and always looking over her shoulder, Zoe is jumpy. Very jumpy. Trusting anyone is a big deal to her and things often seem hopeless. While not surprised that this well written psychological thriller had more than a few twists and turns, I will definitely say the ones in this book by L. G. Davis really caught me by surprise.

The sense of danger Zoe faced followed her everywhere, and all she wanted was to be there for her son. This thrilling read started off with incredible suspense and ended with a nail-biting conclusion.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Meghan is married to Brett for 5 years. Hes now terminally ill with Stomach Cancer and when he can't take anymore he asks her to help ease his pain. She initially refuses but then caves...until the last minute when she can't do it. Meghan leaves the house for a few hours to return and find the empty syringe and Brett, dead.
Meghan now accused of his murder, takes their son Ashton and flees...changing their identities and telling no one.
One day she finds a newspaper clipping on her porch, with her face circled in red and she knows she's been found. But how,and by whom? Secrets are uncovered and people she trusted the most are not what they appear. A fast paced domestic thriller.

Keeps you guessing with every turn of the page.

I loved this book, though I do admit that Meghan, the main character, was hard to admire initially. As she gained strength, I started to like her much better. I loved her relationship with Ruth and Tasha, two characters that displayed warm and caring vibes. The plot started out a bit typical, wife accused of killing husband and goes on the run. But the author started peeling away layers of that life, piece by piece, until this reader wasn’t able to put the book down.

Meghan and her son are on the lamb after she is accused of killing her husband. Who is after her and will she be able to keep her son safe? I really enjoyed all of the plot twists and love in general the idea of you are never hidden no matter where you go. It really makes you wonder the lengths that some will go to to avoid getting into trouble. The ending is very satisfying and definitely couldn't see it coming

Widow wanted for murder. A plot we’ve seen before, which ultimately caught my attention. The book started strong, where we all want to know did Meghan kill her terminally ill husband Brett, or was she framed for his murder?

I almost DNF’ed this book. The writing was very juvenile. The plot was clunky and nothing really happened. Meghan goes on the run with her son, but nothing happens! I mean nothing! A year passes and she is only worried about being caught! What about solving the crime! To say I was frustrated with the main character is an understatement.

The “twists” were too disjointed for me. They didn’t really add to the book. Maybe meant to be red herrings. The random “dream” was out of the blue. Seemed like the author was trying to make a villain work right at the end. And let’s talk about the end, everything thrown in including the kitchen sink, the kitchen chairs and table, and the entirety of the kitchen. Just way too many ideas and a very loose ending.

Overall a quick read, but sadly, a miss for me.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This was a dramatic thriller. Poor Megan gets a whirlwind of blame when her husband passes away from cancer. She takes her son and flees. I was so frustrated on her behalf. I wanted to hit the other characters with their book.

This was a bit longer than it really needed to be and there were a couple loose ends. Overall though pretty good. Lots of family secrets ANF prepare to be frustrated throughout.
