Six friends go on a spring break trip in an RV and get lost looking for their overnight camp ground. They are in the middle of nowhere with no cell service and to make matters worse it seems that none of it was by accident. There's a sniper in the woods threatening them. Someone in the RV has a secret and if they don't reveal the secret then he's going to kill them all.
This is a solid YA mystery thriller. At times I found the characters to be a little annoying and unlikeable but it's that how most teenagers are sometimes? I have a tween. The answer to that question is yes. haha. I feel like this one kept me guessing and I had to know what was going on. The pacing felt a little off at times. I think there was an entire chapter dedicated to how to cover all the windows in the RV. I couldn't put it down though and I really like where the story went in the end. If you liked Holly Jackson's other books then you'll love this one.

I was hooked from the premise alone. I love road trip, thriller/suspense novels. It’s probably because some of my favorite horror movies are ones like Wrong Turn or The Hitcher, and while this book is nothing similar to those plot wise, it does start off with a similar vibe of friends setting off for a good time before all hell breaks loose. You have your siblings, one of their long time best friends, a new acquaintance, and the friend who supplied the ride for the trip. Classic set up. When someone begins terrorizing them and you try to figure which one they are after, Holly does a fantastic job of setting each character up for a turn to look like the guilty party while leading you down a path that you done quite see coming. I absolutely loved the ending and choose to believe that “yes” was the box checked but then again, I’m a HEA type of girl.

When they end up with a flat tire in the middle of nowhere, a group of teens on an RV camping trip feel confident in their skills to change the flat and get back on the road. Until all four tires are blown and they realize it wasn't an accident. Someone lured them to this location and is closing in...with a sniper rifle.
I absolutely loved Jackon's A Good Girl's Guide to Murder series and couldn't wait to read this! It was fun and fast paced. I read the whole book on a 3 hour flight. The plot was the main driver and kept me flipping pages.
However, I felt a serious lack of connection to these characters. Not enough character development to make me feel truly invested in anyone in particular. I feel like one of the strongest points of AGGGTM were the characters. I fell in love with Pip and Ravi. This felt a bit flat in the character department.
Still a fun read but not something I'll rave about.

"From the author of the New York Times and multimillion-copy bestselling A Good Girl's Guide to Murder series comes a new addictive thriller about a road trip that turns deadly. Eight hours. Six friends. Five survive.
Red Kenny is on a road trip for spring break with five friends: Her best friend - the older brother - his perfect girlfriend - a secret crush - a classmate - and a killer.
When their RV breaks down in the middle of nowhere with no cell service, they soon realize this is no accident. They have been trapped by someone out there in the dark, someone who clearly wants one of them dead.
With eight hours until dawn, the six friends must escape, or figure out which of them is the target. But is there a liar among them? Buried secrets will be forced to light and tensions inside the RV will reach deadly levels. Not all of them will survive the night...."
THE book I have been hearing the most buzz about this fall!

Perhaps this is a book best enjoyed by readers who have read the other books in the series. I had not, and did not find the characters likable or the plot believable. The book felt as if it dragged and I found the ending unsatisfactory. Those who are fans of the author and series are likely to get more out of it.

If you love AGGGTM then you are going to love her newest one! It was a phenomenal read! It felt nice to pick up this author again. I will recommend to all the mystery loving teens that I know.

I had to DNF this unfortunately… I really enjoyed her series to A Good Girls Guide to Murder but this book did not have the character development i was looking for 😭

This one didn’t hold my attention. I was curious enough that I started looking at reviews to see if I could find spoilers (because the most talkative characters were annoying and the situation is so repetitive that I very quickly got impatient). Honestly, if the group in the RV was just two fewer people, it would have been a much more enjoyable ride.
I found the spoilers I was looking for, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to skip ahead to get some reveals in real time. It was a little sad that I could easily skip 30% of the book and have no confusion at all. It truly showed how much of the book was just repetitive filler to create tension. And that’s when I realized I really didn’t care anymore.
The book lacks the charm that Pip brought to AGGTM and tries to juggle too many potentially incriminating things, leaving the characters flat and uninteresting and forgettable.

What is supposed to be a fun spring break trip turns deadly in this thriller. Red is on the way to a beach spring break in an RV with five of her friends. However, when they get stranded in a remote area on the way down, things turn deadly. As they try to survive, they realize that one of them is involved in this whole plot.
Toward the beginning, when I read that two of the characters' mom was prosecuting a mob boss, I got worried that this book was going to rely on the mafia trope, which I find overplayed. Then there were twists and turns and I was like ooh maybe not. Buttttt then, in the end, it did turn out to be all related to the mob. I missed the magic of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder here as well. I love the mixed media format of those books and the general writing style. That magic was missing here for me though,
I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

While I enjoyed this one, I wasn't totally sucked in to it as much as I was with the Good Girl's Guide series. It definitely kept me on my toes though, just when I thought I had it figured out it all went sideways. The setting of being stuck in an RV definitely added to the tension and gave it a claustrophobic feeling.
Overall, a thrilling mystery that readers should enjoy, especially fans of Jackson. I have a feeling it will get a lot of circs from the teens at my library.

this book was interesting because it took a little while to get invested in, which wasn’t a problem i had with AGGGTM. but once you’re in, you’re IN. i was expecting more of a mystery, but this story is 100% thriller. the pacing is off-the-charts fast and the characters are surprisingly well developed for a novel that takes place over eight hours (although it’s not really that surprising, since it’s holly jackson). the only thing that was a little disappointing was that the “who” involved in the big plot twist was fairly obvious to me from the beginning, but the circumstances around them were a total shock so it kind of made up for it. especially since there’s not really just one big plot twist, but a few in rapid succession (that i did NOT predict), which gives such a suspenseful edge to the story that’s just delicious as a reader. our main character, red, has a very unique voice - it reminded me of pip in as good as dead, when she’s suffering PTSD from the events surrounding the ending of good girl, bad blood. it was a very interesting POV.
people are probably going to come at me for this after they read it, but my overall opinion was that five survive was an excellent book - but doesn’t top AGGGTM. don’t take this as a sign to not read it, though, because it’s a really good standalone that i definitely would recommend to fans of YA mystery, thriller, and true crime alike.

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book and share my honest review.
Just Wow! This book doesn’t disappoint! Holly Jackson grabs you from page 1 & you can’t let go until the end! Fast paced, intense thriller with so many twists my heart was literally racing. Absolutely loved this book!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book early. What an amazing read!!! It took me a minute to get used to the 3rd person POV as that’s not my typically POV reads, however once I got past that aspect, I FLEW through this book. I was constantly on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book. I loved that this book was set over eight hours, with each hour having a section of chapters. This book kept me on my toes, every time I thought I knew who was keeping what secret and how it was going to end, I was wrong. Holly Jackson has such a way of allowing you to connect to her characters, this book was no exception! Definitely worth the read!

Oooh! I just LOVE Holly Jackson! A Good Girls Guide to Murder trilogy was such a wonderful thrill ride and she is back at it with Five Survive. Early on, we realize there are six friends in an RV together and so you know it wont end well for all of them... I felt a little skeptical at the beginning, the set up seemed strange and not believable, but by the time I got to 50%, I just had to know how it all ended! The twists and turns at the end made this book FLY BY! I read the last chapters with my jaw on the ground!!! She is truly one of my favorite authors!

Thank you to NetGalley for an e-arc of this book in exchange for a review. This book proved that Holly Jackson is not a one trick pony with “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder”. The book had the grittiness I loved from As Good As Dead, with tension that rivaled it as well. The set up was perfect and everything was explained by the end in such a way that I really understood what had happened, which can be rare in mystery/thrillers. I think this was also a great show of character. While I didn’t love Red, the main character, the side characters were rich in their description and I felt like I knew them. Very well done.

This was weird timing because my husband and I just started talking about an RV in the future. And now this one makes me rethink it all.
The setting for this was pretty perfect. I started to feel that closing in feeling while reading. I'm claustrophobic (which scares with an RV), so that got to me more than anything. The book honestly started a bit slow. I wasn't sure what to think of the first 25%. But after that, I got way more into it. I related a bit to Red. The way her mind drifts from topic to topic and how she forgets what she was just saying. That's very me. It's something I hate, but it was nice to see it in a book. I struggle with that daily, some more than others. But it's always there. Red's mind also seemed to focus on certain bad things and things from the past. I'm the same way. I felt for her through the whole book. Her jumbled thoughts made it hard to follow at times, but I think that's the point.
Red's mom was killed five years earlier. She was shot and Red feels guilty about the way things ended with them. She blames herself. She doesn't have money, so her best friend, Maddy, talked everyone into going to spring break in an RV. Maddy's brother and girlfriend go with as chaperones (sort of). They're both older. The younger ones are Red, Maddy, Arthur, and Simon. They're all in high school. Oliver is a bit of a control freak and he made me crazy throughout the book. I hated how Red and Maddy followed what he said. There are six people in total. As the title says, five survive. But you really don't know who until the end.
When the RV breaks down, they think it's just a blown tire. But then all the tires go out. There is somebody out there and they want a secret. There are some big ones that come out during the time they're stuck. There is a lot of tension and things from the past start to come out. But no one is sure whose secret this person wants. Or how he knows what they're doing or talking about.
I gave this book 4 stars. The later part would get 5 stars, but the beginning was more 3. So I went in the middle.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for my earc.

Red and five of her friends are taking an RV to spring break---it’s a good way to save some money, and it’s a fun trip. At least it’s fun until they find themselves a bit lost on a road, with no cell service to navigate forward. When they attempt to turn around and go back, they get a flat tire, which turns into for flats, which turns into actual bullets flying past their heads as they run back to the RV for shelter. It doesn’t take long for them to realize they’ve been targeted, and someone in the group isn’t really there for spring break. Although this was a YA book, it’s a pretty decent thriller. The characters were all relatable and I found myself quickly pulled into the story. I definitely recommend, especially if you’re looking for something that wraps up nicely in the end without too many loose ends.
Special Note: Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I know I am reading a great thriller when I am flinching at the window blowing outside. This book did that for me! Jackson established early on that the narrator may be unreliable, but I still did not predict the secret that was revealed. The gun violence in the book could be traumatic for some readers as the descriptions are graphic. The author was able to provide some hidden tips and tricks for active shooter situations, particularly run, don’t hide.
I have the feeling that this is a standalone novel, but I would not say no to more Red and Arthur in the future!

I genuinely loved Holly Jackson’s previous series, A Good Girls Guide To Murder so I knew I was going to love this just as much. And I did! Holly Jackson has a way with words. I love mysteries with numerous other characters. I enjoy the secrecy and later on the the reveals that are made. This was great, I really loved it!

6 teens are in an RV to get to spring break- sound like fun right? Joking, drinking and hanging out until they are stranded (thanks to gunshots to their tires) in the middle of no where with no cell service and no help in sight. One of them has a secret that is the clue to their safe release, if the guy shooting at them is to be believed, but they all have secrets so whose is the worst! As they begin to turn on each other and their true colors come out the line between guilty and innocent becomes more and more blurry. This was a great read that had me engaged from page 1! I finished it in one day!
