Beautiful ways to work through the emotions of life through art.

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I read this book whilst going through a very rough year. I felt lost and wanted to find a way back to being creative. This book helped so much, the exercises are simple enough to not be overwhelming yet still challenging you to build your creativity and expression. This book is great for people struggling with depression or anxiety who want to try art therapy.
In Creating Stillness, Rachel Rose offers infinite ways for us to explore and be present with self, anxieties, fears, and experiences in a transformational way. This is not an art “how-to” book, but a wise and constructive guide toward inner clarity and stillness through creative action and knowing.
Thankyou to net galley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book as it gave you many calming activities to help create stillness.
I've read many resources on mindfulness especially when it comes to stress and anxiety, mostly from my therapist, but I appreciated the words in this book. My therapist has tried to incorporate art into our sessions but I found difficulty actually engaging in the activity and it would just promote more stress. The activities and experiences in this book helped me to break that down and "create stillness".
Creating Stillness focuses on the use of expressive arts to create an atmosphere of peace and mindfulness. There is no doubt that mindfulness can be a key component of a calm and grounded life. Research demonstrates this, as well as my personal experiences. However, as a person with ADHD some more traditional mindfulness practices are very challenging. Anything that involves sitting still in my middle aged body and trying to calm my thoughts is unlikely to be successful. I think the strength of this book is that the author uses more "active" techniques to move toward calmness. I recommend this book to anyone exploring various mindfulness practices and those who would like to integrate creative practices into their other mindfulness activities.
I've read other books about mindfulness in the past, and participated in online mindfulness meditations. This adds another dimension to the practice--an enjoyable one at that.
I appreciated the personal stories and the chance to read about other peoples' experiences. This is definitely a good book to enlarge anyone's idea of how mindfulness practices can be appreciated in different ways.
I am really enjoying Creating Stillness, it’s filled with practices that stretched me and took me out of my comfort zone. I am new to the practice of art therapy, i found this book is an excellent introduction to it. I enjoyed all the practices, the author sharing her experiences and the guidance provided. I look forward to working through the remainder of the book.
I recently did a few sessions of art therapy and reading 'Creating Stillness' alongside a practice that is very new to me has been really helpful. This book contains a lot of art therapy practices, some which would definitely take me out of my comfort zone but will be worth trying. The author mixes her own creative and life experiences, along with those of others in telling stories and offering advice. The most helpful section of the book for me personally was towards the end when the author talks about mindfulness. Something about her description and the way she wrote this chapter made me look at this subject in a different light and go back to re-read several times over. A very thought provoking book I'm pleased to have read. Many thanks to the publisher for the ARC.
