A total riot of a Dexter meets Made in Chelsea story. Pacy, funny, tense, observant, horrific, cooly grotesque, bonkers at times and devastating real in others, Brent paints Kitty Collins turning vigilante with true verve. Suspend your disbelief, overlook the logistics and strap in for an absolute rollercoaster of a mad romance.
Meet Kitty Collins.
FRIEND. LOVER. KILLER.
Have you ever walked home at night, keys in hand, ready to throw a punch in self-defence? That’s how it all started. The killing spree, I mean.
I sort of tripped into this role… Literally. The first one was following me. That guy from the nightclub who wouldn’t leave me alone. I pushed him, he stumbled, and fell onto his own broken wine bottle. Oops. It was such a waste of a good house white.
But now I can’t seem to stop and nor do I want to… I’ve got a taste for revenge and quite frankly, I’m killing it.
Really enjoyable read totally recommend
Thank you NetGalley and HQ
I just reviewed How to Kill Men and Get Away With It by Katy Brent. #HowtoKillMenandGetAwayWithIt #NetGalley
Wow. I can honestly say that I wasn’t sure what I was going to get with this book, but I was more than pleasantly surprised, albeit a tiny bit squeamish when I read the first unintentional death scene.
Kitty Collins is a social media influencer, though it appears she is a bit resentful of her origin story - it’s not as glamorous as the ones her friends have (daughter of a record mogul, adopted daughter of a media star etc). However, that not-so-salubrious but wealthy start (daughter of an abattoir owner) is going to help her as she starts a pretty violent and very successful killing spree.
Kitty is going to make it safe for women to walk the streets at night, and give them the chance to wear headphones while alone outside when it’s dark. And the way she’s going to do it…killing all those predatory men who think that if they buy a girl a drink she has to owe them something!
The first death is accidental, though he sort of deserved it. The rest of them are 100% on purpose and it seems she enjoys it too.
I loved the unexpected revelations, the stalker, and her dad’s disappearance when she was a child. All of this makes Kitty the woman she becomes. But would I want her to be my best friend? Not so sure!
This was a really creative take and I loved that in the author's notes Katy revealed she got the inspiration from a single thought ‘what if Patrick Bateman was a woman’, and just rolled with it.
Another great read to start off the Halloween horror season.
Two many twists is usually a bad thing, but its not when Kitty is involved. I won't spoil that oh so good ending. Get a copy and find out for yourself.
Definitely not a serious, thought provoking read, but that's just what you need when your main character is an influencer who dabbles in serial killing. Left all my expectations behind so I was pleasantly surprised by the deadly details.
Definitely recommend to my book clubbies who need a boost of graphic murder silliness.
Thank you to NetGalley and HQ/HQDigital for providing an eARC for a honest review.
This book had me hooked from the title and kept me hooked the entire way through. Not only was the concept engaging and interesting, it was also well-done and fast paced. The shorter chapter length worked really well with this story because it had me thinking "One more chapter," over and over again - I just couldn't put it down.
One of my pet peeves is when people write about social media in a way that makes it clear that they don't even have an Instagram account, and thankfully, I thought this book did a really good job with all the characters as influencers. It was clear the author knew what she was talking about in terms of influencers and social media, and parts of this book really felt like a commentary on social media.
I definitely did not see the twist at the end coming, which was surprising - I thought the whole killing men thing was enough to shock me, but that wasn't the case. I do think that the ending felt a little bit rushed, which the big Stalker twist followed immediately by another twist - I felt a bit like I was being punched in the face twice, and once would have been enough for me to get it.
Overall, this was a super fun and quick read that surprised me a lot with how deep it got at times while still being funny. Although I hope people who decide to pick this up look at content warnings beforehand, because this book deals with some heavy topics!
Right from the start I was hooked on this book. Kitty is a rich influencer that wants to make men pay for their poor behavior. She’s basically in the vein of Dexter and I loved how the story unfolds. The story keeps a good pace and moves the story along as we discover more about Kitty’s past. I loved the humor of this book and couldn’t get enough of this story. I definitely recommend this as a must read.
Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for the ARC.
This is another interesting take on the "making the world better" serial killer - Dexter, Promising Young Women, and I May Destroy You all spring to mind when thinking of similar work. Witty and dark, it's not hard to get swept along in the wild world of Kitty. Part influencer, part serial killer of bad men (according to her), she's quite a character. It's really fast paced and engaging, one for any fans of the genre.
Made in Chelsea meets psycho.
The ‘killer’ world of the London social influencer is definitely an eye opener!
The book follows Kitty a rich socialite with a large social media following who takes an aversion to men who abuse or treat women incorrectly and well…. Starts bumping them off!
Really helps that her family money comes from owning slaughterhouses all over the country for easy disposal!
Witty, dark humour this book has it all. Fast paced and though Kitty is every thing some of us may detest, I kinda liked her.
Half funny, half serious and half off the planet crazy book. An excellent romp into the lives of the IT girls and the Instagram lifestyle, with the twist of the revenge murder added in quite literally for fun. Following the romance that Kitty is growing alongside the murdersous damage and feeding bodies into the meat grinders is quite fun and there is something oddly therapeutic about reading about her motivations and then the cold way she goes about killing. A fab twist at the end with a second twist fast on its heals sealed the fate of this book to be my favourite so far this year.
THis book was well written and interesting, but I found the first-person perspective to be a little bit difficult to grasp. I found that it was worth the read, and I look forward to future publications by this author! Right now, unhinged women are making big waves, and I am HERE for it. Perfect read for the Halloween season
Wooow, this book was really a wild ride. I didn't know what to except to be honest, but I fell for the title. And gosh I fell for the book too. It's not very often you feel sorry for a serial killer, right? But Kitty was a normal human being who got pissed of the world and all this men that are attacking and treating women badly without any reason. So she sought out all these men and wanted revenge on the women who had been harmed. Isn't that a hero?
🔪
This book is written in a funny way, so you don't even notice that is actually a thriller. I wanted more of Kitty... I didn't want this book to end. It was a lot of action from the beginning to the end. I really recommend this book if you are not to sensitive to dark funny humor.
I really enjoyed this dark comedy. I found Kitty Collins to be a surprisingly likeable character despite the fact she’s a wealthy influencer who becomes a serial killer.
Kitty has more than a million followers. One of them seems to be a misogynist stalker who knows even more about her life than her very public persona should allow. So, we start the book with that mystery—who is the stalker? And there is another mystery—what happened to Kitty’s father?—he just disappeared when she was 15.
Her friends are also wealthy and mostly shallow, but they are supportive of each other instead of tearing each other down—for the most part anyway.
Kitty doesn’t start out intending to murder rapists that get off on technicalities, but when a verbally abusive guy threatening physical abuse stumbles and slits his own throat on a broken bottle, Kitty finds taking out bad guys gives her purpose in a way that promoting products on social media doesn’t.
Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to review this novel, which RELEASES OCTOBER 12, 2022.
Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer! It is always the one that shows you how jealous they are, isn’t it?
Given the nature of this novel you’d think I would be very uncomfortable, but at the same time I LOVED IT!
The title alone caught my attention. So as you can imagine, a lady kills men, but not just any man, rude sleazy disgusting men that are not worthy of having life. For a Vegan, she loves cutting up meat. Human meat that is.
If you’ve read this you’ll be as completely shocked as I was. The entire time I was thinking kitty was silly for not taking more precautions at letting strangers in. Yes that is the case however, she should have kept a closer eye on those she has always known. Some friends are actually proud and can be happy for you. Others, well, others are jealous copycats that try to copy you in every way possible and if you’re doing better than them naturally, they have to cause you revenge in one way or another. But honey, that won’t fix all your problems, you have to fix yourself first. Copying someone else isn’t going to make you feel happy, in fact it’s pathetic. Go love yourself instead.
On with this novel, the plot twist of killing off disgusting men was brilliant! Who would want the responsibility of having produced a boy/man for him to become a vile creature of society? The decision is completely inscrutable.
Kitty has decided to help society out, in a “Dexter-Esque” way. The fact at the beginning she referred to her friends and acknowledging them by their IG followers was also brilliant. It shows their worth to her and their meaningfulness impact upon society. The less you have, the less you matter in social aspects.
Kitty has an excellent point: Men are typically the predators. Women, are women in their own way. But men can be horrible creatures if not nurtured the correct and educated way.
For the men she kills, for plans to kill you can see her reasons why and understand where she is coming from. She is not completely evil, she does have good logic behind every one of them (even the accidental one that she felt so very guilty for)
If you are easily triggered please be aware the following are mentioned in this novel: Sexual assault, murder, rape, violence, animal killings, and drug abuse.
Sassy and shocking ending. It most definitely had me reaching for it to see what Kitty would do next.
The female Dexter. This needs be become a film! I would love to see the personalities come to life and watch how every situation happens.
Thank you so very much for this amazing read. I hope to ever see this live in action, or even a sequel.
I wasn’t sure how I was going to like this one, however I really enjoyed it. The story has everything on it from love to murder and mystery. Look forward to the next in series.
Good read. Great characters, enjoyed the setting, lots of side stories weaved into it and it flowed really well. A good read for a rubbish day. Will make you feel better!
I really enjoyed this book. A great debut read, Katy Brent is definitely a author to watch in the future.
It’s an easy, fast paced and highly entertaining read. It draws you in from the beginning. I couldn’t put it down. The main character Kitty Collins, a social influencer is so lovable despite the serial killings. It’s well written with plenty of twists to keep you reading. I loved the ending too.
Definitely recommend.
Thanks to #NetGallery and #HQStories for an arc of #HowToKillMenAndGetAwayWithIt in exchange for an honest review.
An easy light read.
The book is fast paced and with short chapters.
Kitty is a social influencer and a vigilante after men who rape or commit sexual assault, but things don`t seem to go as planned for her.
Kitty is a likeable character even though she does horrendous things.
A good twist to the story.
A lot of the plot is unbelievable but enjoyed it anyway and wanted to find out what happened so couldn`t put it down, so would definitely recommend
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the Arc
At one point the main character says
We have all got the potential to do very bad things it is whether we can control those urges that makes us what we are
from school onwards at work or in your personal life
you come across situations where you would like to hurt or kill people
you do not you control your anger and get on with life after a while the anger dims
if you did not and got caught Prison loss of job maybe lose family as well
The consequences stop most people from taking violent action
This story is Dark Stylish and at an early age the main character has a tip over behaviour point
She is a modern woman an influencer who uses social media
She and her firiends have an interest in men which comes across a bit soppy at times
But she takes action according to her own code
but makes a mistake at one point and kills an innocent man possibly two
This is the Danger of any vigilante action
The only thing that did not seem believable is the disposal of the bodies
She is not active in the family business but gains access turns off the CCTV and powers up the equipement
How did she have Keys or entry codes was there not a security guard what about people hearing noise
she does not seem to clean up enough to destroy DNA evidence with modern detection techniques
This was a weak point in the Book I thought
Overall a good read maybe not a book to give to a Girlfriend
I enjoyed the book, and spent much of my time trying to work out who the stalker was. I enjoyed the gradual disclosures of the unreliable narrator and the feeling of never quite knowing what is going to happen in the end to Kitty.
I enjoyed this book. I thought it was well written and it flowed well. Sometimes I did find it a little far fetched, but you know what, that’s okay and it didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment of it. I will definitely be looking out for other titles from Katy and I recommend this book! Thank you #netgalley
