5 stars to this graphic and gripping tale of vigilante justice!
You can’t help but cheer Kitty on in her pursuit to punish men whose crimes against women would never properly be penalized in a criminal justice system that favors males and judges female victims. A well-rounded cast of characters, quick pace, and thrilling twists make this one of my favorites of the year!
3.5 stars
It feels weird to say this but I thought this was a wickedly satisfying read. I wouldn't say it was light or highly plausible in the criming-and-getting-away-with-it aspect, but it wasn't really demanding of much brain power which made it feel light in a way when paired with Kitty's flighty 'It Girl' commentary. I can see why Dexter vibes are referenced here, very punish the guilty that escape consequences via brutal vigilante justice, but definitely missing the stark realism of the gross amount of effort that went into the whole not getting caught thing. I'm confident it will strike a cord with women that is all too familiar. It did for me, twofold because I'm a woman with a daughter. Kitty kinda embodies a fair amount of us women that are sick of feeling like prey for male entitlement. There's just something so devilishly satisfying about how she uses their wickedness against them. She gains her advantage from their misdeeds and it's hard not to champion that. Then, like Dexter, you get to feel a bit strange about applauding a murderer, even if the target is scum. This book is very of it's time with social media, influencers and the #metoo movement all coming into play. The inclusion of it, along with Kitty's wry sense of humor give a welcome balance to some of the previously mentioned heavier material. All in all a snappy little villainous read for fans of dark humor and vigilante-esq behavior.
After a night out with friends, influencer Kitty Collins is followed home by a creep and a freak accident soon becomes a slippery slope as Kitty seeks vigilante style justice against horrible men and she would get away with it all if it wasn’t for that pesky stalker watching her every move.
Gossip Girl meets Promising Young Woman meets Dexter, this book is not for the faint of heart or stomach with its explicit details of body horror, eating disorders, and sexual assault. In spite of all of that, I had a lot of fun reading it and that’s what really matters. Although most of the characters are kind of unlikable, I couldn’t put this book down. By the end, Brent makes it clear that even “good” men reap the benefits of the patriarchy, misogyny, and rape culture and thus have no desire or incentive to fight against them.
An acerbic look on what women feel in an overly patriarchal society which objectify them. When a stunning influencer turns the table by accidentally killing an too insistent drunk guy who follows her as he cannot understand the meaning of "NO", she discovers the satisfaction of reclaiming her power. In the vein of Dexter or my sister the serial killer, a funny fast-paced and reflective story of taking a matter into your own hands. Easy justification or necessary crusade? My moral compass needle was erractic and could not align towards any direction. A twisted but witty read which will keep you up all night.
An Instagram killer ridding the world of bad men! I loved this book; smart, fast-paced, darkly funny and a great main character. Definite 5 star read , Katy Brent is a fantastic storyteller. I'll be keeping an eye out for her future offerings. Thanks NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Kitty Collins is a real life London social media influencer who has it all - millions of followers and millions of dollars. Kitty also has a taste for revenge against predatory and abusive men in the flavor of murder. If you, dear reader, of faint of heart, please heed trigger warnings for SA, and graphic scenes. Giving Dexter vibes, this book follows Kitty as she takes out one problematic male at a time.
As a woman living in today's world, I related to details in the story such as walking to my car with keys in my hand, and dealing with men who won't take no for an answer. I think many women who read this book will too. It is a fast paced read with moments of dark humor spatter amongst the gore.
I think this just might be my favourite book of 2022!
How to Kill Men and Get Away With It follows Kitty Collins an Instagram influencer and heiress (to a meat fortune much to her dismay) who lives in Chelsea and spends her days brunching and partying with her typically posh friends.
One night she’s followed home by a disgruntled man she rejected, and what happens that evening makes Kitty reevaluate her life and what she wants from it.
What if she could rid the world (or Chelsea at least) from all the horrible men who hurt women?
This book is like Promising Young Woman except the protagonist actually kills men. It’s gory in parts and there are graphic depictions of sexual assault and violence so do be wary, however the book doesn’t feel dark. It’s witty, hilarious in parts and just all round brilliant.
I loved Kitty as a main character, not often you’re rooting for someone who is essentially a serial killer, but she was just so great!
On the more serious side it does explore the epidemic of violence against women and girls and how so many women are killed simply for walking home alone. It’ll make you very very angry in parts, but it will also make you laugh as read about the ridiculousness of Kitty’s antics.
Perfect for fans of the ‘Good for her!’ genre of books and films. I just wish it was out in paperback sooner i’m desperate for a physical copy on my shelf!
Books from this sort of genre have been some of my favourites in the last couple of years and I enjoyed this take of an influencer turning vigilante.
I liked the ostentatious food, clothes and furnishings as they were unexpected but the main character, Kitty was impossible to connect with as she wasn’t written as someone that would have the smarts to do all of this, nor did she seem someone that would ever connect with a cause so it all felt a bit disjointed.
Still good and a fun debut for sure.
I really enjoyed the dark humor of this book. I’ve never really watched Dexter the TV show but this definitely gives off that kind of vibes but in female form. This is definitely a great first book for this author. I’ll be watching for more of her books in the future.
Thank you Netgalley an HQ for a digital copy of this book for my honest opinion
Kitty Collins is an influencer with a strong following and seemingly living a highly desirable and privileged life. But Kitty hides a dark secret: she is a serial killer. The "victims," however, are not innocent. Each one has abused his male privilege, targeting women because they see it as their right. Kitty is tired of seeing these misogynistic abusers get away and decides to turn the tables.
At first, How to Kill Men and Get Away With It appears to be a black comedy. But from the first pages, you soon realize this book is not. It is funny, at times, but it is disturbing and shines a much-needed light on topics such as male privilege and a judicial system that continues to fail its victims. The only thing I didn’t think worked was the Stalker-reveal.
Kitty is a well-crafted character. Sometimes, her life spirals out of control, and Katy Brent handles these moments with skill. Her relationship with Charlie is quite sweet, and Tori's storyline is brilliantly handled.
I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from the author. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC.
Kitty Collins is a murderer. She only murders men who abuse and violate women. This book is quite light hearted in places and very gruesome in others. It’s a great holiday read with an excellent plot and resolution.
8/10
Hooked from page 1! Complex characters, entertaining plot and very well written. A book I will definitely reread as I am sure there are subtle nuances I missed, Deliciously devious and one I have to recommend most highly

I think I'm in the minority for this book but I had a really hard time connecting with the main character- Kitty. She's an influencer through Instagram, very wealthy, and can seem to get away with it. I found Kitty to be shallow and not a good depiction of a modern day "Robin Hood" but with murder. The book felt like it couldn't decide between thriller (think The Last Housewife) or humor (think Finlay Donovan series). I would have been fine with either vein but I struggled when it bounced between the two.
There are a lot of four and five star reviews so I say that if you enjoy dark humor and a woman taking down bad men then give this book a shot. For me personally, it was a swing (loved the blurb) and a miss (struggled with execution).
I really enjoyed this book by Katy and would read one of her books again.
Kitty made me laugh in all the right and wrong places with the witty one liners throughout the book. I didn’t want to put this down and read it within a couple of days.
Not the usual exciting crime/thriller book I was half expecting but I enjoyed the laughters along the way.
Apparently the author was inspired to write the book after watching 'Made in Chelea', which I appreciate, having attempted to watch it in the past. Without spoilers, it follows the exploits of an influencer with a dark side and her friends as she decides to deal with men who are sexual predators in unusual ways. It's well written and mostly believable x with a few minor errors where she exposed herself to being caught (eg. turning off a phone doesn't stop it being traced).
It would make a good TV series if it ever was made, maybe following 'Made in Chelsea' on the schedules;)
Well, it's not a review because I couldn't finish (that's why not posting my review anywhere else). Just telling why it didn't work for me.
Two reasons why I requested this book ―1. I was looking for a different read. 2. Reviews/blurb said it was hilarious.
Well, it's not. At least I didn't find it funny. The storyline seemed vague, and it was going nowhere. Plus, I couldn't connect with the protagonist and the writing style. Sorry.
I really enjoyed this book. An interesting plot based on an instagram socialite turned serial killer who hunts the worst men in society. I truly loved the premise, and the way this book was written. The character of Kitty felt like she could be any number of influencers. All in all a well-written book about a girl feeling powerless in the world, doing the worst things to rid the world and protect women in her own way. The twists and turns along the way were interesting, and unexpected, and the ending was great - I hope we see more of Kitty in the future!
This book was great! I loved the feminism explored and I loved the ruthless main character! However, at some points I did find some of the killings getting repetitive, and questioned many times if what she is doing is justified. Overall, a quick, thrilling read that I’d definitely recommend. 4 stars from me.
How to kill men and get away with it by Katy Brent
⭐/5
What I liked : the modern day female version of Dexter embodied in a fierce woman ?? Yes please..
Short chapters and small hints of humor. .
Thats about where the liking of this books ends
Heres what I hated
1. The names - Kitty Collins and Tor... is this enough to banish a book from my mind though? No ... it gets much worse .
2. The constant men hating vibes . I hate all people equally, I don't understand why some have to pick on men . I really dislike the hate vibe in any book . Whether it be hate towards women, men or anyone else . .
3. Heaps of bad scenes with nothing to offer the book . . Theres a few scenes I kept thinking " why" .. as I read . " why is this even here?"
4. After the first killing- the book got repetitive. I felt her actions were unjustified, but you do you Boo-Boo . ☺️
Im all for people with bad intentions getting what they deserve . Don't get me wrong . But this just seemed like a way to create more hate amongst people.. theres enough of this already. .
Ok. I need a happy book now .. Ive read to much crappy. Hate infused literature lately.
There seems to be a trend recently of books featuring women who, rather understandably, lose patience with the patriarchy and start to murder them...As a cisgendered white man I should probably be looking over my shoulder, but instead I'm loving how many good books it's bringing us - and How to Kill Men and Get Away With It is just one of these. Blackly funny, knowing and gruesome, this is a fun, thrilling read
